Here is the problem:
First I was like: Yeah, I will accumulate all that Karma and buy the most epic gear you can get.
Ascended gear arrived: Oh I will better save all that Karma till I can buy the best gear for it. I do not want to waste it on exotics that will be subpar sooner or not too much later.
Do I know if I will ever be able to buy ascended gear with Karma? No.
But the “maybe” is enough to keep me saving it up…

I personally use Priory’s Historical Greatsword. With reflections turned to “All” the sword’s blade reflects the beam and with the fact that you can see through the sword makes it super sweet.
I use that too, it is very mesmerish in my opinion.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
How would one work this into a build without destroying damage? It certainly looks potent.
Well, you would have to put 20 trait points into Inspiration.
So you would have to either sacrifice GS, dodge clones or IP.
The playstyle he described would probably get rid of the GS, as you would need the focus at hand all the time anyway. This means: 200 less power, 20% less condition duration and 20% less Mind Wrack damage.
You would not be able to keep the damage up to what this build offers in general.
Feedback solves ranged mob problems fairly well, as it gives you enough time to get close (dodge into them and finish them off) without sacrificing your damage for a fairly niche option.
Just my thoughts on that topic. (A bit late I know…)
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
People must really dislike mesmers because of PvP.
For every buff they ask for PvE, they get the answer that it is fine for PvP, if not overpowered, so most mechanics cannot be touched.
Their answer is to simply not use this mechanic in PvE.
In the end mesmers are one of the weakest PvE classes, with exactly one build left for competetive PvE (DEs), and have to play the keyboard like a piano to get fair results.
I do not care about PvP, it’s way too limited to be the core of this game anyway (one mode on a few maps). And Wv3 is mostly a zerg rush, where mesmers can hit nothing but the door on a siege anyway.
Than we have this gigantic world full of PvE, with hours and hours of content to play. Could we balance the classes for the biggest aspect of this game please…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Blink never gets off my skill bar. All other utilities change on the situation.
Simply adapt. Nothing better than getting 25 might off a boss with Arcane thievery and sharing it with your group members using signet of inspiration.
Sometimes you want more condition removal, sometimes more flexibility. We have most of the tools available, so make good use of them.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
And what is wrong with this if this is true? Remember they said to play the game “our way” and to have fun how we “want” to. Just because you like to enjoy killing these risen and doing events why does it mean that he has to? Simply because you may not enjoy mining or gathering resources does not mean you should hate on those who do.
There are other places to farm ore, like Karka Island or Shiverpeaks. If farming ore is what he enjoys, he has like all maps except of the Orr ones, and he can still do it there, with a bit of entertainment.
This is not about enjoying the game, this is about making profit or farming for a legendary, if he takes 4! chars through there.
God forbid it comes with a bit of challenge.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
For the evening I run whole orr by three or four characters, digging ore. And I just, simply, can not enjoy the process. I would love to kill them, but it’s just pointless, because after meter is again dozen of these creatures. =( I love the fight in this game, but I hate to fight with risens
Here we go. You just want to farm nodes. You don’t care about the risen anyway. About events or whatever. You would probably like the zone best if there were no mobs at all.
Orr is fine. It is a warzone full of zombies. No place to simply farm your ore.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Also remember that Rampager has PRECISION as its main stat, so those wearing it with have naturally high crit chance. With my old warrior rampager gear and rampager accessories, I think I had 65% base without any buffs.
Sometimes I wish there was a bit more gear variety ingame. Not necessarily for my Lazy Kai build, but for most others i tried.
Would probably be too hard to balance for ANet though…
Let’s see what the future holds. And what changes we will have to adapt to in the next update…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Trahearne is so bad of a character, I made a Sylvari Necromancer myself, called her Burnable and stand in the fire every time it is an available option.
I was watching the cutscenes of GW1 to get some information of what is going on. The personal story misses so much fundamental information that I felt like running around like a headless chicken, advised by a guy who gets everyone killed.

The Leveling & Open World Compendium
yada yada tokens
yada yada raids
We have this tokens ingame, they are called Karma.
We just lack something to spend them on, ANet is probably working on that.
Free yourself from the idea of closed encounters of the raid kind. A public dungeon might be sort of acceptable for most players, but the kind of raids you are calling for are not what ANet stands for.
I understand you want them, desperately, but I fear, you are playing the wrong game…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You sir, have a biased view on MMOs.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It’s strange, because my necro friend who’s in mostly green Rampager gear with random accessories has 50% crit chance already. Do necros naturally have higher precision/crit chance or could it have just been the fact that he probably put 30pts in his precision line?
I just expected to have a decent amount of crit chance with nearly all exotic zerker gear.
Well 10 points more in the precision trait line equals 100 precision more. This is about 5% crit (as 21 precision is about 1% crit at 80).
Some may remember that the first lazy build was actually 20/30/0/0/20, but was changed as a result of the bad iZerker bugs.
For now I think 20/20/0/0/30 is still the best solution even after the iZerker has been sort of fixed. Just because this build offers so many additional option to just being lazy. ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Nothing wrong with a more phantasm centric playstyle, even though my build is more about producing butterflies (blowing illusions up).
I’d say don’t worry about the phantasms, they are standing around useless most of the time anyway. That’s why I prefer to blow them up after their initial attack. Don’t underestimate the potential damage of a full 4 clone shatter…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
When something is played as a solo game.Everything is optional and you have almost 0 need to interact with other people that is not a MMORPG.(MassiveMultiplayerOnllineRolePlayingGame)
While i was leveling i had none interest to play with other people.
When i became 80 the only party with other people that i did was fordungeons and nowhere else.
GW2 brings people together in WvW but what is the point to make a party there when i can just zerg it?
I can make a group with other people in the open world but why to do it when i can do alone everything:killing mosters,do events, farm materrials,do jumping puzzles.
Even the 1st eight dungeon don’t need big cooperation. The only 2 places which are group friendly and are not for pugs/zergs/casuals maybe are Arah,FotM 50+.
Why do i have to even stay in a guild when we don’t do things together? For it’s upgreads only?
Just imagine this, you play an open world event with other players that attack the same enemy and aim for the same goal. I don’t know, sounds terribly like playing as a group.
Ah I forgot, you have to invite someone to create an imaginary bond to be allowed to play as group together…

I have my funky dungeon support build which is 20/0/30/15/5, I run it mostly in Berserker gear and it is no shatter build.
Shatter builds need Deceptive Evasion. Other builds do not, even though it might be a nice addition.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
In all of my life, I have not disagreed with a post more than I do with the OP of this thread. The OP’s entire post can be summed into 4 words: “This is not WoW”. And somehow he goes on to make this sound like it is a bad thing.
No, it’s not WoW. It is solo friendly. BiS endgame gear used to be easy to get, but now you’ve gotten your wish and there’s a gear treadmill so enjoy that… And finally more Guild based stuff is on the way.
But I really don’t get it. You have how many other gear grinders out there? Why in the world do you people keep coming to the successor of the wildly successful Guild Wars 1 and keep trying to demand it do everything WoW did and nothing GW1 did? It boggles my mind.
3. We are missing engame challenges, raids AND the grind for better loot.
Yes yes, I/we know. GW2 is a mmo where endgame gear stats are capped for all, and easy to get to. Its all about finding better looking gear, and stand out in the crowd..
- That is just fine, if Arenanet want GW2 to loose players all the time from boredom.Guild Wars 1 did just fine without that. More than just fine.
The simple answer?
Because they don’t want GW2. Even if they do not realise it, they want another WoW, just in a different setting as they want to re-experience their “first love”. So they try to change this new relationship in what was once their love.
Like in real relationships this will not end well, because either you accept the new partner the way he/she is, or you will live a lie.
Get over it, get over it.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I think you are mixing up some things right here.
We do not talk exploits here, but as it is sort of fixed I will give an idea of what’s going on.
All this talk is about a trait called “Shattered Strength” which gave 3 stacks of might per shattered illusion. So 3 Illusions gave 9 might, but by exploiting you could get double the amount. This has been fixed (bandaided).
Additionally, “Shattered Strength” now gives only 1 might per shattered illusion. But this is still way better than what we had before the december patch, as it lasts now 10sec (up from 5sec) and you can still get 3 might, as before it was only one might per shatter itself.
Btw, thank you for using my build, hope you enjoy it. I actually really like Arcane Thievery as condition removal, even though the cooldown is fairly long. Null-Field is a nice option too, just try to find your own balance with the utility skills.
Hope I could help.

It is just leveling the Mesmer that can be really disheartening.
I still remember me being a young Norn Mesmer doing the lvl15 zone boss three times without even getting bronze, till today this achievement is missing.
Same problems with other bosses including the shatterer while leveling.
Fortunately, the Mesmer was my first char, so I had no comparsion on speed of other classes (I always stick with one class till it is max level).
Back then, GS was not yet an option (it was bad before the GS patch…), but I think using a GS now for leveling might be a good option.
At 80, at least shatter specced Mesmers do fine even in DEs. I like GS a lot, so this goes hand in hand.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
DEs are all about fast burst. I do not even remember when I got anything else than gold on an event I actively participated in.
Easiest way is to get a GS, berserker gear and an build focused on shattering.
As this build works perfectly for me (normally I can tag all mobs in an event as I do enough dmg even if it is just with IP and zero clones…), I’ll share it once more:

The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Dear kitten, people got really WoW brainwashed.
To be honest, I played WoW too, raided AQ40 all bosses and Naxx40 some of them. Even played the first two expansions a bit, but got bored by the mindless gear grind.
Thankfully it was not my first MMO, because the glorified grind is such a cheap excuse for missing content. You heard right. Raids might look like content, but they are just an excuse to place most of the community in a small arena to repeat the same stuff over and over again (like FotM).
I grew up with MMOs with minimal generated content, no instances (in the sense of restricted amount of players) and slow leveling. We made our content ourselves killing bosses in lairs sometimes with a zerg, sometimes in a small group.
Leveling was part of the game, not some necessary evil to get to the real game. PvP happened, without calling names, as most people knew each other and it was alot of fun. Gear was all the same, nothing special, just common and uncommon, but as nothing was soulbound, that was not a problem.
Nowadays, MMOs offer everything on a silverplate, but people seem to have lost any imagination. They just want be spoon feeded with “content”, whatever it might be.
I do not say that GW2 is perfect, nor that it is the right game for me, or that I like it. But it offers way more then some people realise. If you want a raid for braindead gear grinding every few weeks, go to one of the other bazillion MMOs out there.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Story mission replay pretty please?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
All this Mesmer Bashing, feels like I am back in Japan in the late 80s. Why do people think this class has everything is beyond me. It might be strong in sPvP, which I don’t play, but in PvE it is lacking.
I would like to use something else but centaur runes and focus, but for PvE, I am more or less forced to run with this setup to be on par. Honestly, I don’t care about sPvP, and if someone tells me that shooting the door in a siege is overpowered, ah well.
Split PvP/PvE skills if you must, but give us option please.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
OK, here some numbers.
I’m sitting at 1788 precision which translates to 46% crit rate.
With an exotic berserker earring I could gain another 15 precision.
With one additional ascended ring (red ring of death, or similar) I could gain another 18 precision.
Wearing the quest reward back (masterwork) I could gain another 3 (exotic) to 7 (ascended) precision.
So in theory I could get another 40 precision, which would probably give me 2% more crit chance. But honestly, the back is right now not worth the grind.
If you get full berserker, you should be about 46% – 47% crit chance.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
This doesn’t sound right.
I wear a pretty funky mix of accessories right now, including Ancient Karka Shell, Mellaggan’s Whorl and Ouroboros Loop and I am still at 45% crit. Both rings have a good amout of precision though and the Shell has some too. All other trinkets are Berserker with ruby jewel, so this might be the reason.
21 precision are 1% crit at lvl 80, maybe check how much is the difference on your stuff to pure berserker gear.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Race doesn’t matter much, as there are not stats involved. Maybe some racial elite is more “magic” than others, I don’t know.
Elementalist is the most related class to magic. Others are Necromancer and Mesmer. All three count to the mage archetype.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
6 illusions mind wrack.
What.
I have no idea…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The big problem I’ve had with this build is lack of any condition handling, and I most often die from stacks of poison or other conditions.
This is just a general gameplay guide. If you have trouble with conditions, feel free to adapt. Our utility offers several tools to do so, so swap out Feedback or whatever and use it accordingly.
I change the setup of the utility skills constantly depending on what I am facing. The ones in the guide are for easy going PvE.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Just saw a male charr mesmer in mesmerish colored CoF gear, looked terrible.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I applaud you, but doesn’t change the fact that you’re a tiny, tiny fraction of the Mesmer population!
Isn’t this always the case for the best things?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The first character I created was a male norn mesmer and he is still my main.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Well sorry I am not convinced.
If you set the mark as high as saying “content worth a paid expansion”, people will at least expect some new areas.
All people begging for bugfixes and burst in joy now ANet vaguely confirmed them as part of this “expansion” may rethink of what they expect from a game. I expect bugs to get fixed anyway.
Furthermore the January and February update were meant to be the size of an expansion, but it looks like all we get for January is a minor update. I am fine with the delay to February/March, but just say it is so.
We still do not know what we get though, let’s wait and see if it is worth staying… ^^

Video games and logic…
DEVs will always do what they want and have an excuse for it anyway, it’s their game.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
This is a difficult situation. But I honestly don’t understand why “several hundret” members of your guild would put all power in the hand of one leader.
Rebuild your guild, call it “Repentant”, make several co-leaders and your guild members and your guilds reputation might be ok again.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Calm down you Einsteins… This is too much for my brain.

C’mon, they banned some exploiters. Only the worst exploiters in this case. If you think this has a major influx on the playerbase you are off by some miles.
It was obvious, whoever used this way to earn ectos knew it.
Why would you justify this missbehaviour? Why would the punishment for it be less then a ban. Why would you be surprised if you exploited some service and the company excluded you from using it?
Grow up. This is by all means not ANets fault.

I like Orr. I like the concept of Orr. I would like to see more people around though…
There should be “Orr Offensive” meta events, giving extra whatever.

No, ANet said after the Karma exploit something like if it feels like an exploit, DON’T DO IT.
Exploiters have been warned, they knew the risk. End of story.

can’t go 20 deep into anything. the 2nd books are level 40
Ah, forgot about that. Not too much a fan of alts…
My advise now: Get to 40 fast… For now, put 5 into illusions and the rest into Dueling and Domination, as more damage can only help.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I think it is an awesome build for Wv3, but honestly, it requires some mad skills to play it like it is shown in Osicat’s videos. You have to know your enemies and you need a really good feeling for distances and timing.
If you prefer to keep distance to your opponent, GS is probably the best solution for Wv3, that’s why it is fairly popular. My build is mainly PvE, but it will give you good results in Wv3, as long as you keep distance.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I tried it again, definitely reducing. Probably better for sustained in PVE. Thanks!
Thanks for testing it and confirming! Haven’t been able to hop on the game yet tonight, was worried that I had been imagining things. xD
Sorry for the confusion, I was in fact talking to tqhx in regards to the iZerker. ^^

The Leveling & Open World Compendium
leveling my mesmer and definitely prefer GS over staff, how do this build fare in Wv3?
It is OK, but you are fairly fragile. I prefer to use Mass Invisibility as elite in Wv3 and stay in second line with this build. If you are into dueling, look at Osicat Shatter Cat build over here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/guide-WvWvW-Shatter-cat/first#post673554
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
So… that’s a great build and all. But as a level 30.. where should i be at right now trait point wise?
Go 20 Dueling for dodge clones would be my advise. Next 5 to Illusions and than 20 to Domination. After that fill up Illusions.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
I think every needs to calm down. The community’s response here is out of line. Anet has said, although their comments are now buried because of the horrid downvotes on Reddit, that they only banned the people who exploited this massively. I admit that this was a loophole that should have been caught. It was not and it was pushed and someone found it and published it and then exploited it and made tons of money. You know what, that is an exploit right there.
No one is saying that it’s not an exploit. It’s the punishment for it that’s harsh. Goodness, lock out their accounts for 5 years, take away their clothes, their money. But don’t take away their time. That’s such a horrible decision to make.
It is not, it will make others rethink the next time if they really want to risk using an exploit. Btw, if someone got a permaban on this, he was expointing the hard way…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The two rules which have been true for all MMOs before:
1. Never play on a patch day.
2. Exploit early, exploit often.
Thank god, ANet got it right and fixed both issues.
