I hope you are given a clue by the mods which name was in violation, and how to change it (I’m not aware of any option to change name for now, so they’ll probably provide one).
Without looking at your name, I have no idea on what names to suggest. Since we can use spaces, there are lots of options for naming characters. I’m not good at witty names though.
Dodgy Duke (thief)
Blake Butterfingers (thief)
Durandal The Shield (guardian)
Serian Dual Blades (thief? warrior?)
Those are probably not good, but they can be easy to remember because they mix an uncommon name, with a common denominator (butterfingers, dual blades, etc). I do not see any of them as offensive, and they could be made funny as well.
Anyway, good luck, and use spaces to your advantage!
There are no in-game options to do that. Guild leaders are the highest power after all… You may want to place a ticket to customer service in this case, not sure how they will handle it though…
I love the level scaling mechanic. and it does make the game better in my opinion. That idea was really well implemented.
Yeah, the contribution thing is a problem… I also get just a few bags, but still. I prefer the support role. I go with a shoutdian, with increased boon duration, and reduced shout cooldown. I can buff so many people, and for long periods of time.
My DPS is subpar though, I roll with the staff and mace/shield. The staff has the best support abilities. Do not underestimate the 2 attack though, it can hit really hard. Also the 3 attack is very long range and does damage as well in an area (little damage, but something).
Yeah, I was looking through recipes on the internet, saw that one, and was stumped by the elevated cost. It should cost at least the same, or even less since you are making a bulk of items… Quite strange.
The rewards the game offers as good for this type of game. This game focuses on skill-based PVP, not gear based. So there cannot be any more powerful gear offered. And that in itself is a good thing.
If you win, or lose, it’s not because you had better/worse gear. It’s because you have better/works tactics, coordination, or skill. That in itself is an incentive. PVP where everyone is on the same level playing field.
I also think it would be too hard to control the variables. Who gets to decide what gets upgraded and when? If it’s automatic it could be at the worst possible time. IE: upgrading a castle that is low on supplies and being attacked.
I understood from what the OP said, is that you would get a list of available upgrades, and you put your money towards an specific one. So you can fully pay for one upgrade if you want, or partially pay for one if low on cash. That’s my take on it. If the system decided what to upgrade, I would not like that either…
Yeah, we need trade features. The “excuses” that it helps cut down gold sellers is pretty weak. Anet can monitor anything in the system. Be it mail, or personal trades. They are numbers in a database. So yeah, we need trade features, CoD, etc.
I think it is a good idea though… Just have an open pool kind of thing. If you want to pay all the 50s for an upgrade, you can do it. Just like the current system. But if you are short on cash, you could dump 10s, and another person another 10s, etc, etc, and get the stuff built. I like the idea, and it does play more into the “cooperative” and “community” aspect.
I would not mind some kind of tool that assist groups. I would not like a tool like WoW has, there is no need for autogrouping/teleporting and all that unneccesary stuff.
Just a place where we can see what groups are forming up, and we can list ourselves as looking for a group. Then we can talk to interested people. and get together to do a dungeon.
Spamming chat is really the wrong tool to look for a group. If no one is interested in running that dungeon, then you are basically spamming. Just sending a message over and over that no one is interested in. It wastes your time. and generate spam.
So we do need some kind of grouping tool. Not the WoW grouping tool, but something to help us find people who are also interested in X or Y dungeon.
Well, it really depends on what she wants to do with her character. She probably wants an ele as a ranged caster class. However, all classes can be effective at range in this game. Even a warrior has very decent ranged abilities.
Elementalist can be a bit complex, because they have a lot of weapon options, and are pretty squishy themselves. They can be really effective when you get the hang of changing elements often so you can use lots of attacks with long cooldowns.
Anyway, I would recommend she try a few classes, and try all the weapon skills with each. It will take a while to train them all, but that will give a basic idea of how the class plays. After that, she’ll have a better idea of each class.
All starter areas are besides the capital city. Inside each capital there will be a purple swirling icon which is an Asura gate that will take you to Lions Arch. In Lions Arch, you will find asura gates that will take you to all the racial capital cities. From there, you just step out into the stater area.
You may need to do a little walking the first time, but you’ll have the hang of it in no time
I understand that. I just wish they were a basic guild representation tool. I have yet to see them around, and I would like to see them as frequently as years past
I haven’t gotten as far, but I know there are guild armor vendors and guild weapon vendors that sell items with your guild logo and stuff. I have not checked it out myself, but that is what I understand…
Sorry, that’s all I could think of :S
I do not know of any way to move those skills around, not sure if it will ever be added either…
You cannot remove those upgrades directly. What you can do, is salvage the armor, and (depending on the salvage kit) there is a chance of getting the upgrade item back.
I think the best salvage kits have an 80% chance of returning an upgrade item.
The first 5 weapon skills? not that I know of… We can only move the 3 utility skills around.
However, as a work around, you can change keybinds. So make it so when you press 1, the 3rd skill activates for example. That’s the only thing I can think of the top of my head…
I don’t mind the idea of multiple guilds it’s just that there should be some sort of restriction between swapping between them.
That would add an unnecessary burden to the system. I log in, none of my RL friends are on. So I change to my WvW guild. I play 30 mins, and then my RL guild logs in and wants to do a dungeon… Sorry, all the influence will go to my WvW guild because I have a block on the number of times I can change guilds…
If we are going to request a feature, there better be a really good reason for it… I do not see a timer on guild swapping as something that would benefit the game.
All downed states are supposed to suck… I mean, you were downed… Really, what are you expecting?
It’s actually a pretty good idea. For larger guilds, it allows them to create a second sister guild, and either move some people there or use it to invite new people too. Also, it gives people the option of joining guilds with specific focuses like WvWvW, events, roleplaying etc, and swap between them depending on what they’re doing at the time.
That is one major advantage, being able to split up people better. However the down sides really hurt the smaller guilds, like a lot of people have between their personal RL friends. If i switch my representation to a bigger guild, im cutting out influence that my group of friends really need to thrive. We have about 12 people in my guild that are all local friends, and we are only able to get about 1000 influence each day because of people’s schedules in being able to play. Thats not bad, but if just 1 person swapped out repping another guild for just 1 round of WvW, thats a lot of influence that we lose.
Sure, that is the downside. But the upside is that your friend can still play in your guild (with his RL friends), and also partake in large WvW that he likes with a large guild. He gets the best of both worlds. Playing with friends, and PVP. Put yourself in his shoes. Would you prefer he has to choose between playing with RL friends. or leaving them to join a larger guild? That’s a bad position to be in…
I also think it’s a good idea. This is optional, and you can stay on a single guild if you want. But you can also join a PVE centric guild, and another WvW centric guild, and just change from one to the other as needed.
I love the game, just 2 things i would REALLY like to see implemented ( SIMPLE )

Dueling would be fine. Just don’t allow it all over the place. No dueling where the crafting stations or banks are for example.
Inspect, I can live without it. I think it actually adds to the game to have a little mystery, and not have everything handed out in a platter.
You can also salvage leather armor for leather pieces. That’s a good source of materials (same with cloth and chain armor for cloth/metal straps).
I have not ran into a lot of issues with crafting materials. As long as you level mostly by discovery, then you should not need such a large amount of materials.
I like that, it promotes exploration
If you want a good map, you can try guildhead:
Please note, that is a 3rd party website, it is not official from arenanet. It is a good site though…
/wiki???
That… is very useful! Thanks!
Hi, the trainers are in the capital cities and starter areas. They are marked in the minimap with a blue book icon. So just go to the starter area, and look for the icon. They should be pretty close to where you started at.
WvW… I can spend all day there. Even if we are losing. I just hope they up the caps, or allow us to queue for multiple maps or something. It would be a problem if it’s too hard to get into it
You are lvl 7, so you have access to 2 weapon sets now. You should take advantage of that. You can change to a 2nd weapon set when your greatsword skills are on cooldown, and unload more skills. You also need to dodge a lot.
This game is more active/reactive than other games. If you just stand still in one position, you will get hit… A lot… And hard!! Keep moving, dodging, changing weapons, watching cooldowns, using your heal, and you’ll do fine. Just try not to stand still in one spot, or you will have trouble
The level scaling is to make all content viable even if you are max level.
Even with that, you are on the right track. Extra levels will give you more skill points or traits that will give you more options. So overleveling an area will still make it easier, even if you are leveled down.
I like the system how it is and would not like it changed… One-shotting everything in an area would make it boring
There is no need to remove pets, you can have as many as you want. You can change your active pets by clicking on the pet picture above your weapon skill bar (or pressing K I think), and you can change your active pet from all the ones you have charmed.
So don’t hate the poor pig, you can keep him, and all other juvenile pets as well
to craft bags, will i be able to farm mats at my pitiful level ?
8 slot bags take the very basic materials, and the pattern can be crafted at skill lvl 0. So yeah. You can also buy 4 slot bags from many merchants, but they are pretty pitiful :S
Hum… That sounds weird… Try closing the game and reloading, and if all else fails, you should be able to transfer back to your server (transfers are still free as far as I know). If there are still issues, you may want to open a ticket, or post in the account issues forum. I’m sure you can get better help there. Good luck!
All armor crafting professions can craft bags. 8 slots bags are pretty easy to get. Apart from that, you’ll probably have to buy them off the trading post. I have not seen any other source for bags…
Necros are working as intended, I believe. They aren’t like the ranger, whose pet is supposed to be in the fight. Necro pets are meant to die, which is why your abilities give you creative ways to kill them to increase your damage.
I think the design of the necro is ok, but they do have bugs which make them seem pretty unfinished. Pet AI just makes them stand there while you are attacked, or they may run off 1/2 the map away to attack a mob you did not even walk close to, etc. They do have a few bugs, but I like the idea behind them.
I recommend to try them all out, and activate all their weapon skills. You can do that at lvl 2-3 without any problem. Once you have seen all their weapon skills, you will get a better idea of how the class plays. Weapon skills are pretty important, and are the skills we will use the most throughout the game.
So check out the weapon skills for the 3 classes, and then pick the one you like best. Should not take too long (a couple of hours or so).
Especially in WvW… I mean, the spawn point is so far :S
I will revive people. I will not risk myself too much if they are under heavy fire. No point in downing myself trying to revive others.
Also try to revive them as soon as you can. Reviving a downed player is pretty quick. Reviving a defeated player… That takes a long time :S
You can change account name. Just click on the “My Account” link at the top right of this page, and it will allow you to change the email address (which is your login info).
I do not know of a way to change character name. If that is available in the future, it will probably cost gems or real $ to do.
You can also craft bags, consumables, and weapon upgrades, which (as far as I know) do not come from dungeons. As others have mentioned, the xp is also very nice.
Guardian is pretty nice
What I tell people, is to try all characters and learn all the weapon skills from them. If you like the weapon skills, then the other skills can complement that. If you do not like the weapon skills, better pass the class. Weapon skills are what we will be using the most of anyway (with the possible exception of engineer with their kits).
Not 100% sure what you mean. If it is the amount of skills you have available at one time, it is fixed.
You have 5 weapon skills, 1 heal skill, 3 utility skills, and 1 elite skill for a total of 10. You can use more skill points later on, and you can change skills anytime you want (outside combat) without any cost or penalty. You will get more skills points so you can learn all the skills if you want.
Hum… I have not tried the skill, but what are you expecting from the skill? This is not summon skill like the call wurm, this is a straight offensive skill. So you have to cast it at an enemy, and it will place a bleed on it:
Call upon an owl to attack and bleed your foe.
Damage: unknown
Bleeding: 20 s (850 damage)
Range: 1,200
You are right, it is not a bug. It is the way the game is supposed to work. You can hit enemies without even targeting them. If you hit a spell, even without a target, the spell will go off, and it will damage an enemy if he’s on the way.
Likewise, you can block attacks aimed at someone by simply standing in the way of the attack. So this is perfectly intentional, and does add another level to the skill usage. I actually like it this way, you just have to be a bit careful with what you press, and don’t just go bashing keys like an arcade game.
I think we should have that for chat. I do not think we should have it for character names, but for chat, no problem.
Not exactly a bug, but the staff’s auto-attack sound needs a little more tuning; I feel very self-conscious while using it around other players, as I’m acutely aware of how annoying it is.
Yeah, I agree with this. The sound is not too bad, it’s just too loud. If the volume on it was lowered, it probably would be ok. So I would consider the very loud volume of that sound effect as a bug.
I’ve seen that happen if the target is out of range. It will fire once, then stops. That seems to be pretty normal. I have not seen that happening if the target is within range.
I think it also stops if the target is obstructed… Not 100% sure on that one.
Have not seem that issue either. I play fine for hours, even in heavy WvW battles. My dad did have that issue with his computer, and it was overheating. We just opened it up, used some compressed air to clean it (it was pretty dirty), and it was all back to normal.
The skill has a waterdrop icon with a red X on it. So it means it is not designed to work underwater. So I cannot say this is a bug, it seems to be intentional.
That leaves us with only the plague cloud as an elite skill underwater… Which unsummons your minions… Which makes it makes it more useless than useful… I hope they either allow the flesh golem underwater, or allow minions to persist when transformed into a plague cloud.
Same issue here. The “I stand still while my master gets beat on” is pretty problematic… Maybe they just don’t like me
Giving them the same AI as ranger pets should solve those issues. I have not had a problem with my ranger pet, even without giving it any command. Out of combat heal would also be pretty rockin’.
Don’t worry too much. It’s pretty clear you just stumbled into it. Just report it, and make sure not to exploit it (doing it repeatedly), and you should be ok.
Same issue here. Looks fine on normal, but looks pretty bad on small UI. Pretty sure it is not driver/video card related, but just in case:
Nvidia 560 ti
304.79 drivers.
1440×900 resolution (I know, my monitor sucks… That’s the max I get…)
