Great thread, and good that Anet has visibility on it. Good theories too. The only thing I can think in this case, is that all minions are using a similar AI. Since the ranged minions are working fine, the melee minions may be trying to use the same, or similar AI. That AI probably tells the minion to stay in place and attack (instead of move into position and then attack). So they will stand there, trying to attack an enemy with an attack with short range, and then reset and follow you again.

A quick and dirty fix would be to make all minions ranged minions. Not my favorite solution, but would fix the problem. Another one that other players mentioned, could be to add commands (F2 attack, F3 retreat), that would force the minion to attack, regardless of anything else. Would still be a bit bothersome, but would also fix the issue… It would also make the necro a lot like a hunter… The best one would be to fix the AI. If they are using a single AI routine for all minions, I would make 2 routines (Melee and range). If there are already 2 routines, then just fix the melee one. I like the permanent minion idea, so I would not like to see minions with short duration, or giving buffs like spirits.

Can’t think of anything else, but please fix this. It looks pretty bad, and this issue has been there since the very beginning.

This is still going on. I use my necro as my main (have a lvl 80 guardian, but he’s meh… And my eng is nice, but not as nice as my necro…), and I use mostly summons. I’ve been playing with the exploder guys, and they are great!!!… If I could get them to run to the enemy! They suffer from the same problem as the other melee pets, and just stay hidden behind my skirts where I cannot blow them up!! It actually sounds pretty smart for them, but not what I need!

Please someone look at this issue. I’m not sure how simple or complex it is to fix this, but at least some feedback “We are looking into this, no ETA” would be nice…

Getting more use out of the Commander role

Well, Rika is right, the commander can do all that stuff through chat “put a cata here” commander jumps up and down, but if there are tools to make that better/easier for them, then I’m all for it.

Actually, I would prefer the commander player to not be in the map at all. Commanders do not go to the front line to fight, they go to command. That way, only people that actually want to “command” will get a commander icon, and activate it. People that want to bash skulls, will not bother with this. Of course, the commander can disable this when he wants to go bash skulls as well.

So a commander should be able to place waypoints, where to build stuff, see the players in his squad (should be easier to join squads as well), direct things in an RTS type interface. You know, actually command… And yeah, they should get Karma, xp, commander levels depending on how good they do, and people should be able to vote for them as good/bad commanders.

I’m all for this. It’s basically a tool that does the same thing as spamming “LFG Xdungeon, PST”, which is basically advertising for a dungeon, but in a neat UI tool that can be accessed anywhere. We definitely need this.

I’m not for a full automated tool with auto-grouping, auto-porting, etc. I just do not think that it is needed, nor does it add anything to the game. It can actually subtract from it (the "I-don’t-care-what-happens mentality, I can just get another group regardless of my reputation).

Well, nov 15 went by, and we still have the same issue Really, how hard can it be to give it the same AI as hunter pets? I have not seen hunter melee pets having that issue… Come on Anet, at least a “Yeah, we know about it, but have not had the resources to fix it, and will fix it in 2-3 months”. I’ll take that…

Map completion shows you have actually partaken in different parts of the game. If you want to complete the map, you have to do the jumping/swiming/wvw/story, etc, etc. This is perfectly fine as it is.

No, it’s not trolling. The change may seem simple for you, but these kind of concessions bring a mass of other demands for other players (“you changed the game for him, now change it for me”). Things are not as simple as you think…

That’s a slippery slope they cannot succumb to. If they make that “change” for you, then other people will “demand” other “changes” and we’ll end up with POIs just on the road where everyone can get to.

There is nothing stopping you from completing the map, other than spending an hour or so to blast through the storyline missions (which are easy at max level anyway). It just takes a little money for porting (which should be easy with 99% of the map complete), and a little time.

I’m not color blind, but I support this anyway… And would probably use it. An option for more notorious red/green damage areas would be good (areas checkered with Xs or Os perhaps?).

Anyway, this options should be added, and I’m willing to bet they would be used by more people than just color-blind people.

Pretty much this. I do not particularly like the game that way, but if it is toggle-able, I see no problem at all. No game mechanics change, just the way the game is presented to the player, so no problems here.

I know what you are saying, but it is much more complex than you think. For example, class A is hitting harder than class B, C, D, E, and F. So instead of nerfing A, you want to buff B, C, D, E, and F. That sounds good, but it is also 4 times more work than just nerfing A.

Also, if you buff the damage for all classes, then you’ll have to buff HPs of all the mobs, or the games becomes too easy. Then you have to modify NPCs, weapon ratings, armor, etc to comply with this…

I think it is lot easier to just nerf A…

No thanks. As a legit player, getting something like a catch phrase would rattle my kittens. They just need to pursue them quicker when there are reports. Sometimes you see them for days running around (with all broken gear) just running in circles attacking whatever they can. They are not even hard to spot…

Agreed. We need some kind of listing where we can see what people are interested in running X dungeon. We do not need an auto-porting, auto-grouping hideous system like WoW has, but we need something. Spamming chat is definitely not the best way to look for parties.

The game needs a death penalty, all games do actually, otherwise, it’s just a zerg-zerg-zerg till you get whatever it was you wanted to do.

If you are dying too much, then you need to optimize your gear, change skills/traits, until you find the sweetspot you can play well at. Not just die-die-die with underleveled items, no traits, and still expect to win the game.

I do agree with NinjaEd though. WvW is a different matter, and those repair costs should be lowered, or removed outright. Nothing more demoralizing, than joining a map you are undermanned, and knowing you will have to pay a lot just to try to take a few positions from the all-mighty zerg…

Yup… Also the hidden cooldowns should be there. The necro trait that summons a little undead rat when you kill something has an internal cooldown, but the trait says nothing…

Totally agree. Remove repair costs. To balance that, remove gear drops from PVP. Make bags have a chance of getting a random blueprint instead, and drop more badges of justice. Also, remove the gold cost from blueprints, and make them buyable with badges of justice only.

PVE gold should have no effect in PVP. Sure, you may make money in WvW by staying in the zerg. But as the OP mentioned, it removes exploration, experimentation. If I go into a map we do not have anything in, try a point get killed 1-2 times by the zerg, then I’ll just leave. It puts a greater burden on the undermanned server, as they will die more often and incur larger repair penalties. An actual gold penalty for being undermanned…

A command to join an overflow server

They are going to add guesting, which will allow this. However, the ability to willingly join an overflow server is a good idea. It could be used to work-around bugged skill points, or even look for people if your area is not really populated at the time.

The only problem I could see with this, is a possible resource exploit. Get that rich iron mine, pop into overflow, and get the one there as well. If they could block those possible exploits, it would actually be a good feature.

I have not felt the need for mounts in the game. Travel is good enough for me as it is. The only thing I want is free travel to capital cities (including lions arch). We can already do it through the mists, so they should just enable it.

I do not think adding more skill slots is a good idea. 10 seems fine to me. As others have said, a way to save some skill/weapon configurations that we an switch to (out of combat, of course) would not be a bad idea though.

Ok, I went and packed my Necro for a while (leveled a guardian to 80). Now I came back to my necro, and this issue still persists. The melee necro minions are not attacking all the time.

Just make them attack whatever I attack, and attack whatever attacks me. Nothing more, nothing less. Or just give them the same AI as ranger pets. Those work as they should.

Point caps would not help much… The lead server would just let other servers capture a few places on purpose just so they can get a higher score.

I would prefer motivation for the teams with lower score. More badges of honor drops so they can get more siege, Cheaper siege costs, and cheaper repair costs.

Right now, the repair costs really keeps people off a losing map. Attacking a camp on a map completely controlled by another server is just calling the zerg down on you, and a hefty repair bill. So people will just get frustrated and log out.

I would completely remove repair bills from WvW, and make siege purchasable with badges of honor only, but that is another discussion.

We currently have the “send collectibles to bank” and the “compact” command next to each other. More than once (actually a few times), I have misclicked, and compacted all my bags making a huge mess of everything when what I wanted to do was just send all collectibles to bank. It’s like dropping your grocery bag on the way to the car!! Terrible, and makes some sad kittens

The show/hide bags is a less “harmful” command, so having it besides the send collectibles could avoid some accidents.

I’m not a farmer or anything, and I did not have a lot of problems getting the 1g and 2g books. I also craft and play normally (even WvW where I actually lose money). So I do not think it needs a change, and it’s a one time only kind of investment.

Personal opinion only. I’m sure Anet has numbers showing the amount of gold people have at all levels.

I think this falls more into the “personal opinion” side of things. I don’t think I would like if my character was too perky, and commenting on everything. It would probably drive me nuts.

I would not mind if they add (in the future) options for character… well… character? Maybe a stoic option, a cheerful option, etc. That would affect their animations. It should not affect storyline, just idle animation and some of the stuff they say.

That’s probably a lot to ask for though, it takes a lot of development time, and the ROI is really hard to measure…

Also the ability to queue for all borderlands/eternal BG at once, so you just get in the first one available (I really do not care which map I play, I just want to play).

Did you even read my original post, or did you just skim the title and knee jerk respond? Did you happen to miss the fact that the server I’m on doesn’t CARE about WvW?

I love how people always just claim “just do this it’s so easy!” No, it’s not. We don’t control map points that often, and when we do it’s because we did an all in zerg to down a gate and are about 1 minute away from being steamrolled over when the enemy respawns and takes it back.

Ah, so it is possible to get points. Even the ones you are missing. All you need is a minute to get that POI, or even vista in WvW. They are no complicated jump puzzles to get them, just climb to them.

There is nothing wrong with needing 100% completion from WvW maps. As others mentioned, the problem you may have is with WvW itself. If that is the case, you can even transfer server to a winning server, get the stuff and transfer back. It would kind of beat the purpose, but it’s a workaround.

And no, I have not completed those maps either. But it’s something that I can slowly work for. I’m not on a winning server either, so I will take some time, but that is not even an issue in this game.

It’s not a direct penalty, but it would be a penalty. Lvl 80 items are worth more than lvl 20-30 items. So if I run it at my level, I would be “losing out” on those… Whether it is vendor money, or item power. A loss is a loss.

I never said it doesn’t need to be better your all assuming I said that, All I said was it pretty lazy to not make the effort to do those things if your really interested and that’s basically my whole point. My other point was that dungeons are not really worth the time full stop they have been altered again and now we have lame tokens or are going to get tokens which means now I get no reward at all and need to keep doing the dungeon again and again and again to get anything worth using. Before even though the loot role rate was pretty shocking for the amount of times you would most likely need to rez or respawn and fit the bill for gear dmg no matter how skilled you were you could at least get about 10s a run and maybe 1 item of use or usable items to salvage.

But no Anet once again shoot us in the eyes and tells us we cannot actually farm a dungeon, Well that just defeats the whole point of being at end game imo.

Then you are mixing up the discussions. This is about some kind of dungeon finder assistant, not about dungeon rewards, So I will only answer the first part.

I have no problem with putting effort towards something, if I can get something back. The problem is that the current (non-existant) system does not guarantee that. I have to go to an area, spam chat, but there is absolutely no guarantee that there is even someone interested in what I’m looking for. So all that effort to get there, spam chat for one hour, and just stand there for one our is completely WASTED. There is no fun in that, there is no social aspect in that, there is nothing gained with that.

Effort is fine if I can get something for it. If I get nothing for it, it is wasted effort. So if I can see a list, I can list myself as interested, but see no one else, no biggie. I’ll just go do something else and check the list in a little while. When I see 4 others, I can contact them to get a group going. That’s all I want, some listings so people stop wasting time.

We have a trading post so we do not have to try to sell something over chat. We need something similar to the trading post, but for dungeons. Simple as that.

I don’t see it wasting your time, Your heading to location your calling out for a group as u travel by the time you get there you have a group. I would hardly call it a waste of time anyway since you can teleport right there, by change maps I assume you mean from anything but the PvE world which in that case your in the kitten lazy category. You should not even be looking for a group for a dungeon if your not in PvE world.

Further more your already wasting your time just by going to a dungeon because your chances of getting something Truly amazing are just not going to happen the game is not designed that way I can get the same chance as you out killing some random monster while wearing a full set of MF gear in fact I can probably get the gear I want faster just going to the TP and buying it and save myself all the heartache of even doing that.

I just don’t the see the point for it at all sorry, All you have to do is walk to the dungeon you want and start calling in chat most of the time you will find plenty of people sitting out side the dungeon doing the exact same thing and after a group.

So your solution if I want to run a dungeon, is to go to an area, and hope to find some people that want to run that same dungeon, without anyway to know if there are even people interested in the same dungeon by constantly spamming chat for an undetermined amount of time (could be hours), only to find in the end that there was no one interested in running that dungeon, so all I did in the end was waste 1 hour, and bother all the people in the map with a constant “LFG AC exp” every couple of minutes?

Sorry, that’s no solution at all. There needs to be a way to easily find other people interested in the same thing as us, without having to spam chat, or sacrifice a lot of time where we could be doing other things. Something like the “classifieds” sections in the newspaper, it has been in use for decades, and works pretty well…

AC eh, well you have already wasted countless hours of your time if you even think about running that one as it is the worst and most unrewarding of the them all.

It DOES waste my time, if I get there and find out there was NO ONE interested to begin with!

If I could go into a listing, and find out there were 10 people interested, then it would not be a waste of time. But if no one is interested, it was a huge waste of time.

The other problem is that I cannot just go into the area for 1 second, and then leave. Since I have no way to demonstrate that I am interested in the dungeon other than spamming chat, that forces me to stay in the area and spam chat to get anything done.

That’s no solution, it’s a workaround, and a lousy one at that… We need some kind of listing, or classified ads for dungeons. And something that works anywhere on the world.

Legendaries are completely optional. They are no more powerful than other items. So if you want it, you have to put a little effort to get it.

Legendaries should reward people that play all aspects of the game. WvW is one of them. If you are missing that one tower, then get in there, and lead people to take that tower. If you do not want to play all aspects of the game, then maybe you do not deserve a legendary.

Legendaries should actually be harder to get. They should require some sPVP stuff, as well as dungeon stuff. Really, only people that get into all aspects of the game should have them. They are completely cosmetic anyway.

No, that LFG says nothing. I have no idea what they are looking for, and as far as I know, it is not world-wide.

So it does need a little more to it. Something like that, but where we can list what we are interested in running. And it also shows partial groups. As I said on my post, it does not need any autoporting, or autogrouping capability. Just something we can browse from anywhere on the map, and has as much info as people shoting “LFG AC exp”.

The idea of the lobby sounds pretty good. But it would still force you to stay there in one place doing nothing, which is just wasting time if no-one else wants to run that dungeon…

So you could stay there for 2 hours, and get nothing. I would prefer just somewhere we can list ourselves, or our group, and that can be accessed from anywhere. No need for autogrouping, or autoporting, just a list where we can see interested people so we can contact them, while still playing WvW, or leveling out in the field.

I’m all for full auto loot. We get that warning anyway when our bag is full, and shows the loot on the right side.

But yeah, this would be mostly for WvW. PVE, I have no problems at all, but WvW, I’ll lose bags, or have to go back to pick them up and an ally may die, or something may happen in that time. It’s just distracting, and the loot action does not add “fun” to the game anyway.

It will heal them. Any area heal spell will heal them. Howerver, I would not mind if they healed themselves out of combat. Hunter pets do that. Heck, even if it is a trait somehwere. Put it together with the extra HPs to pets. So if you invest in minion traits, they will get that bonus.

The reward is enough. Otherwise, it is too easy to abuse that feature.

2. Other player can rez me for xp/karma/gold.
3. repeat as needed.

So no changes to the mechanic please. It is too easy to abuse.

Except that Anet apparently has a way to determine if you die from accident vs. combat (hence the no equipment damage), so they’d be able to only add rewards for rezzing for combat death…

Oh, and I really liked Rich.9503’s suggestion to give a little Karma bonus for rezzing. Cuz, when I rez someone IRL, I usually get a little Karma…

Then I go commando, and get killed from some yellow mob so my friend can rez me… Death from combat, no equipment damage, and rez rewards.

I understand the post, and while I would love to see a little more rewards for rezzing, I know it’s something that is too easily abused…

Hum… Not so sure how imbalancing that would be… Another short use skill or signet… I do not think this is a good idea.

I prefer the 2nd option, to have more elite skills. Maybe some generic ones everyone can purchase. A summon, a transform, etc.

I play a guardian, and the tomes are really good for WvW, but they kind of suck for soloing. Luckily, I’m also human, so I can summon 2 hounds, which is great for soloing. So adding more elite options would be good.

Nope, this would imbalance the map. It is actually designed this way, so it is easier to cap/hold stuff that is closer to your base. So the borderland of each server gives advantage to the home server due to the central location. This is by design.

Allowing players to get back to the combat so quick even if far away would remove this planned advantage. So no thanks. This will teach people to be more careful the further they are from the base.

Actually, legendaries should be harder to get. They should require you to max crafting, get lots of dungeon tokens, WvW objectives. sPVP ranks. Only people that play (and excel) in all areas of the game should deserve a legendary.

So when we see a legendary, we see a player that really explored all aspects of the game, not just one or 2.
