Shield useless...

Kanto.1659

Shield is useless. A 6k heal when we have 16k if playing full zerker. That’s almost half a bar and we can do it every 25 seconds. On top of blocking all damage. We must have different standards.

Does the Chrono block also heal for 4k HP?

Is Berzerker only gear choice?

Kanto.1659

The only thing that has a 50/50 to kill my zerker Rev is a veteran hylek, the type who is just immune to range (and a hearty puppy to you too, whatever dev who designed this mob).

The mob stealths, jumps back, hits hard, and I’m running around with my little melee weapon trying to get to him.

All the rest is just meh, what Rev dies to pocket raptors anyway? They even attack all at the same time. Champs? Sure, if we wait for their big hitters, but as I posted above full Rabid did not save my engineer when one did when I was running past.

I’m hardly saying ‘only use zerker!!’, but lets keep the talk informed. Dodging at the right moment is superior to stats.

Kanto.1659

The thing i that playing with toughness and vitality or not does not really matter. The mobs hit harder, yes, but it all still relies on dodges and utilities. I was traveling with my Rabid engineer and passed by a saurian champ who did a tail sweep and was insta downed. All that toughness? It did nothing.

We can gear for 10% of the game where a one shot will turn into a almost one shot, and then play 90% of the time at a slower speed, or we can make 90% of the time go faster and dodge/utilities the 10% needed.

Daredevils staff vs ours?

Kanto.1659

I’d like to break bars reliably, but I’m not giving up the hammer for that, which means losing the sword/shield which does brutal offense and defense.

The staff seems to do nothing. I break the bar, fine, then I’m locked in a piddly damage weapon. I suppose it is a trade off when doing events and no one bothers to break the boss’ bar, so I do piddly damage but everyone around is hitting the boss while stunned.

I feel like the butterfly wings are a bit ‘small’ to be able to glide with them. On my (huge) male norn you have to look twice to see them from the front.

However it would be amazing to watch him (being a huge norn dressed as a dragon) glide with those tiny wings xD

And I like the idea of the broom and carpet aswel!

If you’ll notice all characters have their weapons grow in size when removed from their back. It can be quite hilarious at first tbh, especially on asura.

Well, first of all, I don’t play with map chat turned on and most of my guildies when asked are the same. Map chat is a blend of spam and inane chatter.

And… you have access to five guilds to be in, there is no one in those guilds free to come and help you kill a champ? Most of them are duoable.

I agree with most of it. Mechanically and for enjoyment purposes I found the story to be good. Story wise… meh.

BUT! Dragging things out isn’t good either. if we look at the storyline of FF14 there is a LOT of fetching and FedEx quests with some of the biggest culprits being a Titan on the loose and the NPCs wetting their undergarnements because of it…. and we spend the next twenty or so quests fetching food for a feast, and convincing a crazy hermit to give us wine for said feast.

I honestly don’t care that much for stories but that part had me raging to my guild.

So the fact there is a sense of rushing and urgency isn’t bad. They could have taken the time to explore the new hylek, and perhaps soothe feathers between non sylvari and non turned sylvari, but in the background there would always be DE to rescue and Mordrem to stop while we’re playing ambassadors and diplomatics and archeologists over Rata Novus.

IF everything deserved a much larger expanding? Yes. We can hope the next installements of the story will go over these (how did RN fall? We know the chak were involved, but what happened to them? Did they die? Leave? Where did they leave if they did?).

The final fight was okay, but… like everyone has said. Caithe simple accepted back with two lines not to repeat it and Traherne in three seconds explaining the deus ex machina to kill the final boss and developing telepathy to pull non sylvari into the dream was just weak sauce.

I’m also not sure how I feel about having killed Mordrem so quickly. This kind of thing should be built and ended at the final stages of the expansion, six months or a year later after the expansion is released. The big bad being killed two days after coming out is bad pacing.

Of course I have no idea what the raids will be about, so we’re probably headed to our third dragon? Dunno.

This is why I think GW1 is a better game.

Not all this unrealistic bling, and goku chars. Actual immersive content is what we need. I’m sorry if this collides with your opinions, but I’m trying to save the game for some people who don’t like this futuristic, or unrealistic crap.

People these days will buy ANYTHING. Anet didn’t find another way to make money, it was clearly already there. And they made the wrong decision to use it. Because now everyone and their mom has wings. Just like any cheap mmo out there. Soon, if anet accepts the feedback from this thread, players will be flying around with any random device that can be scrapped on ones back. This may include 10 cm long holo wings, or spinal blades, or even this yolotron talking robot. Can you see where this bullkitten is taking us? Exactely, kid town.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion ^^ Perhaps you should make your own MMO with none of these things! \o/

The holographic wings are just light particles.

The standard wing gliders make sense, as they are physically there and aerodynamically suitable for gliding, the holographic wings? not so much

You must have missed the SAB, from which we get to use solid holograms for weapons (there are plenty still in the TP if you wish to look at the text blurb), and the Scarlet fiasco, where we get to fight solid hologram foes.

Solid holograms are a thing and in-game already

There’s a DPS guide on this forum. Look for it. It explains things.

The thing with Gling + Shiro is that it is pure DPS. Works great as long as we’re just pumping damage and not needing utilities.

Turn on all facets, including healing and Facet of Nature, but not the elite. Use your energy fast (it’s usually sword/axe for the best damage, but I prefer to camp the hammer so I use #2 on CD). Once energy runs out turn to Shiro, use Impossible Odds and camp your #1 until energy runs out. Repeat.

With sigil of Strength and runes of Strength, no food, I’m usually doing party wide 20-22 Might, perma fury, perma swiftness, perma regen.

This is a DPS rotation though. When things get sour staying in Shiro is usually the best choice for the evade that refills half the endurance bar. Coupled with the block from the shield, the evade from the sword and two heals I could keep a champ busy while a friend respawned and ran back.

Ah. I see. Sometimes it turns itself off when I swap (and greys out) and sometimes it does not. I need to ensure it goes on energy deprived CD before swapping or I’ll have to use it and endure the longer CD.

Is there a site that shows the meta events on each of the maps (day and night cycle on VB, Tarir city meta, etc) and/or events on the map? I know old Tyria has that, but I looked around, tried some google, and haven’t spotted one that does the same for the HoT areas.

Sorry, I don’t see a problem with any of the issues mentioned in previous posts. I read as many as possible before eyeballs started bleeding.

If ANet makes any more changes, there soon will be another thread juxtaposed to this one of posts lamenting about how there’s ‘nothing to do’ after 2-3 weeks of the HoT release, if that.

I leveled my Revenant in literally the time it took to click on 60 tomes and the instant level 20 scroll. ~5 minutes, tops. So now I need to go farm some Hero Points to flesh out the rest of the elite spec; maybe ~10-15 hours of game time if I focus on it.

The brand new class, maxed out, casually, in less than 10-15 hours.

Way too trivial imo and I somewhat wish I never had any of the tomes to begin with. I can’t even imagine what this OP would be like if some poor soul, with a real life job no less, had to level a brand new class from 1 to 80, in a brand new expansion, with no easy mode leveling ‘tomes’…THE HORROR.

The issues I picked up on in this thread:

- Skills becoming available as you level up has been around for quite some time now. And although I admit when it was first released I didn’t much care for it, I like it now. Having all skills available after you hit a mob a few times seemed kind of silly.

-The Masteries are account bound, learn them once and all characters have access to them seems a bit, again, trivial to even a casual like me. But to each their own I guess.

-The story is fine for me, even before the recent change. Changing the terminology means nothing, ‘Gating’ will always be prevalent in digital gaming. PERIOD. GW2 had no grind or was completely an ‘open world’ previous to HoT? Really?

All games are about time invested; the vast majority of people in this post want their stuff NOW, or else they’ll demand a refund. Very interesting to me, but in a sad way.

My post is in support of ANet to counter some of these ‘interesting’ game-refunding claims, and to ask them to please not cave in too much. This coming from a loyal customer who has played since beta and spent hundreds of dollars on GW2. Others need not respond as I care very little as what you have to say and honestly wish ANet would eliminate these type of open forums in favor of a more concerted effort of personal customer support using email only. Leave these type of opinionated forums to the Fan-Based websites; PLEASE. The actual game related forums are fine, but even those get tiresome when not on topic.

/Awaits_nothingtodoalreadywhenisnextexpansion_threads

You should actually do this before coming to post about how simple it will be. I know I’ve been playing since HoT came out and I have unlocked my minor. That’s it.

Before more people keep on defending Anet, Gaile included, lets keep in mind it is the same crew that though unlocking level 36 adept skills behind killing a level 50 champ was a-ok. Or at 36 go complete a level 45 map exploration.

Considering how brutally out of touch devs can, and have shown to, be, maybe accepting the en masse complaint would be better than say ’it’s fine, the expansion has only just come out’.

It’s not like we don’t have the personal story + the masteries + exploring the whole maps + building guild halls to keep us busy.

I’m back on my engineer. After five or six hours and only getting enough HP to unlock the first minor I had to giggle. Especially on Revenant, whose Herald is the glue that keeps the class together to the point where no build does not have it.

On top of it first I need glidding, so I unlock it, then I need mushrooms, so I unlock it. I’m still working on updrafts when I discover an HP that apparently needs me to have unlocked the hyleks.

At this point I’m just, you know what? Back to the engineer. No rush, no need t ograb all the HP and ignore content since it does not need the elite spec. Later, once I have the masteries and have discovered how to reach the hard places I suppose I’ll get the Revenant.

Was this what I had planned? A big fat not. Sunk plenty of gold, spent a good chunk of the morning just getting the Revenant and transfering items back and forth and opening my one ascended weapon box then more gold to turn it into a berserker weapon.

P.S. Another two HPs that require the T4 Izuel mastery to not insta die to the poison clouds. Seriously? On the first map? So we ‘only’ need to do 40 HPs to ge the elite spec? By the time we have all the 40 HP we have plumbed HoT and have a few hundred hours under the belt already.

I’ll be okay with this if I can unlock the trait line before having to put points in the fluff like skins and runes. It’s okay to cost 400 points to unlock all the skins and runes and crap, but if the first 60 points go into unlocking the traits, vertical progression, before the rest goes into horizontal progression.

I will add my voice to how this is a bad design. Bad design. I understand the desire to eek out the elite spec, but you turn HoT from a place to progress and wonder at the sighs to rushing through without any attention to the scenario, the quests, the NPCs, in order to unlock the elite spec, and then go back to the start and progress normally, do the events, see the sights. But now spoiled for the initial rush.

Especially for Revenants and Glint being so good there is rarely any build which does not have it (lets not go into how it has Swiftness simply to explore the land).

Why would you even level without Herald? Perma swiftness, perma fury, perma 5-7 stacks of might. When you are fighting you can switch to your legend of choice.

We’re talking leveling here, it’s a quick bam bam and move on to the next mob, not involved rotations like killing a boss requires.

Herald is an elite specialisations, hon :P Can’t get it before level 80 and in Heart of Thorns region.

As far as I know the revenant will start with Jalis. Grab a mace and staff. Mace 3 and Staff 4 are blasts, it will keep swiftness up on ya long enough for the weapon skills to come off cooldown.
Mallyx has a ground targeted leap, as pointed out earlier.

I think revenant will be a blast to level and also a very strong solo player with mace/axe staff sets.

edit Also shiro’s impossible odds grants super speed. Don’t really need anything else apart from that and your auto attack to wreck things :P

Ah crap, didnt know what. That’s what I get for hoping into the beta for just a quick check of things. Well, if that’s the case there goes my plan of leveling a Revenant. I’ll just pop it at 80 and do the new maps anyway.

I don’t know where you got this information, but as an RPer in all RP guilds, most, if not all, of our members have vast knowledge of the builds and stats and know how to play them.

I’m an RPer and run an apothecary build for engi. People call me useless at the start of the dungeons but when I’m sitting there not only doing as much damage as they are, but also keeping their kitten s alive, respect gained.

Man, I am a RPer myself and when you started I was all ‘Yeah, you tell him!’ and then you had to spoil it by mentioning Apothecary.

… no, you’re not doing as much damage as they are, no, you are not saving them from being one shot, and no, you’re not going to survive one shots either.

Unless by ‘they’ you mean others running something of the sort, like cleric shout healing warriors, then absolutely, yes.

Of course I am not saying to go out and change your playstyle. Not at all, carry on, but while I doubt I made you change your mind the truth is that no, you’re not doing half the damage you think you are.

Ah, the beauty of a game without DPS meters. A simple Recount report would clear all these misconceptions, but two years into the game we still have ‘gut feelings’ about damage dealing.

  • Sigil of Battle grants you 6 (9 with strength) stacks permamight. You can swap whenever you want with the kits, just count to 10 in your head. Extremly good sigil.

Shrapnel has a 5 second CD. Press the swap weapon keybind every two Shrapnels and your grenade kit keybind right after, there will be no GCD.

If you’re a bomb user do the swap dance every firebomb since it has a 10 seconds CD.

Personally I use both since I tend to play alone and don’t battle structures, and when I do it does not matter (AKA I am in a zerg). Since I tend to pug and 25 stacks of might are a myth I self buff myself knowing Might is increasing my conditions and direct damage, something the % sigils would not do. I tend to maintain around 14 stacks of Might without fire fields, but I do use runes of Strength.

My thing with rangers is that I don’t really know where to sit with them. I main an engineer and everything just seems to click better. I have melee and long range AoE, diverse skills to pick from, etc.

The ranger was fun to level to 80 but once at 80 and putzing around with the traits (stupid new systems forces us to wait to 80 before we can horse around with builds) I noticed I kept getting downed around Orr. Sure, normal mobs went down fast and veterans too, but once surrounded it was bam wham. Not to mention PbAoE flying around killed me by being in the thick of it.

I switched to rabid gear with the bleed and fire trap and a shortbow. No more downed, things die pretty fast but I kinda miss the sword now (and I’m under no illusions that rabid gear is made for group play).

I will say this: I worry about the future of GW2. Not because of the megaservers, because that is just a matter of tweaking and fixing, but because of this new trait system. It speaks of a disconnect between the developers and the gamers as if they did not play the game themselves and had no clue about what a player is doing.

There is no possible way that

- One trait asks me to go, at level 36, to Iron Marches, a level 60 are, and kill a champion.

- Another trait on a different line asks me, at level 36, to go and finish a level 59 storyline mission.

- The third adept trait I want from a third line asks me, at level 36, to do a 100% map explore of Mount Maelstrom, a level 44-55 area.

would be deemed acceptable by a developer who played the game.

These options seem to push into buying traits, another gold sink (which makes sense since we use gold to buy gems to buy things from the gem shop, so just like Diablo 3 sources of gold are nerfed in order for there to be less gold in the system and the players to use RL cash).

I made two characters with this new system. When I reached 31 and saw what I posted above I pretty much lost interest. After 30 levels I have to trudge through another 20 or so just to get adept traits? No. I have a gazzilion tomes so I just stopped bothering to level normally and bumped myself to 80 (word of advice for other players who actually want to acquire the traits: bump yourself to 65 or so. By the time you have explored the maps and done the required storyline missions you’ll be 80), geared myself, and then, traitless, went out to acquire them.

It was a slog. A big, slow, boring slog. Full map explores to get one adept trait? Unnecessary. Level 59 story line missions? Between all the slow conversations, the unskippable cutscenes, the scripted fights and the constant back and forth (gotta say it is a nice WoW throwback to be sent to a place, kill someone, WP back to the city, enter the instance, speak with another NPC, load out, WP somewhere else, do something, WP back, enter another instance, etc etc). I spent an afternoon on it and was sorry, I should have bought the skills.

This is to say that this system is not pushing for people to make new alts. It is not friendly, it is not inviting. I made a ranger but had a grandfathered one. The new ranger is parked and I’ll be using the old one that was just a profession mule.

The ‘best’ trait acquisition? Kill a champ over Iron Marches. Simple, out of the way. Find it, get a group, kill it. This is how it should be. Another one was find Vexa’s lab, a JP. Again, as it should be. Simple, out of the way, a player needs to move out and do some effort .

Another thing about Vexa’s lab. I pity the new players. I click on the telescope and I am shown an area. I go there. I explore it. I go up, I go down. I look everywhere. No Vexa’s Lab. Eventually I /wiki it and ’lo, the entrance is a long distance away from where the pointer sent us. This is bad.

Sigils randomly not working in games

in PvP

Kanto.1659

Yes, I had to spend eight gold and it was not welcome since my funds were already low.

This is PvE.

I was using pistol + dagger on both swaps. One was Battle + Doom and the other Doom + Battle.

The Doom sigil would not work.

I decide the Doom sigil is borked and replaced it by sigils of Corruption. Sigil does not give stacks on kill.

No one mentions a problem with sigils so I am left scratching my head. Eventually I thus fork the 8 gold, buy another sigil of Battle and another of Corruption.

I make both swaps match with Battle + Corruption. Still not working, start ranting. Decide, per chance, to remove my weapons and equip them again (something tried already before the new sigil allocation).

Corruption stacks, Battle works as well.

TL;DR – If you’re using similar sigils make them match on the main and off-hand of both swaps.

I am leveling a new thief to try this system. My experiences so far:

I’m level 31 atm, at level 36 I’ll buy my first adept trait. Thinking ahead I decided to work towards my new traits so that when I hit level 36 I can buy one of the three traitlines I picked.

- The build uses two adept traits, so I can go fetch that second adept trait instead. It asks me to do a 100% map complete of Fields of Ruin, a level 30-40 area. As anyone who has played GW2 they know these maps with a disparity in levels is a good way to quickly face levels +8, so I suppose I will not have it ready for level 36 either.

Besides the fact the Adept levels traits need to start to be unlock at level 11. Through low level map completion, low levels bosses (Oak, Bandit), and low level Jumping puzzles, and personal story. That by the time you are level 36 you already have a fair about of trait unlocked, to experiment with. Then by level 42 most if not all Adept level traits should be unlocked. Then again By level 48 you should have a descent amount of Master level traits unlock to start messing with.

Yes. 100%, yes. 30 levels of auto attacking is just not the way to do things. Again, why is there no supervisor checking on things before giving the green light. I can imagine a non-player programer treating GW2 as a job and who is not into actually playing the game, just designing, but is there no quality control? Someone to say 30 levels of autoattacking will be dull for players?

Players want variety and to explore. For those who do not there are signet builds and that is fine too, but the rest can mess with things.

AND! ABOVE ALL! Starting at level 11 would immediately give the players something to aim. They could start unlocking skills right away by killing a boss here, completing a map there, finishing a storyline.

Why 30 levels of dullness? Why push things back? Why slow thing down? What was the purpose? Who thought of it? Why was there no dev who actually plays the game (instead of the aforementioned dev who is not a gamer but makes games, a distinct difference) who spoke out against this? If there was, why was he not heard?

Game Updates: Traits

I mean this in the most respectful manner, but is there truly no one supervising these things? I can understand someone making a bad judgement call and pulling a snafu. Too little sleep or not paying attention. It is understandable.

But is there no one supervising things before giving the green light to go ahead with things?

This must have been mentioned a few times in other threads but I must bring it to the limelight again: why does a level 36 skill ask for level 36 players to do a level 59 storyline mission? Why does a level 36 skill ask players to do a 100% map completion of a level 80 map?

Was there no one checking on traits, someone, say, who plays the game, that read this and went back to the team who was working on the traits and told them ‘You know, what you have here, it does not make sense. How can you expect a level 36 character to go do a level 59 storyline mission or clear a level 80 map?’

If the answer is ‘who cares, they can buy the skill at the trainer’ then things are weird. The new skill system is to have players go and explore the world. If the premise of it is ‘who cares, they can go buy the skill at the trainer’ does it not make the whole new system flawed at (stupid censorship filter) its very core?

Dare I say, lethally flawed?

Personally I never saw anything wrong with having some zones be somewhat empty. It makes the game feel larger, rather than, say, a crowded shopping mall where everyone is always trying to push their way in to the best stores.

Before megaservers, even some of the low-pop servers were still able to complete large-scale events because they organized properly. If we are going to constantly cater to the lowest common denominator here then you are gong to be left with nothing but people who want everything handed to them on a silver platter.

And the option to guest to a populated word to do the big events was present for those who wanted a Teq kill. I know I did, and plenty more did, guest to Desolation for a Teq or even champ farming (since Pikens can’t seem to coordinate without three different trains).

Yes please. It already remembers the runes and the sigils without them being physical and equipped, so add one box for weapons, will you?

Reward tracks, not enough

The rewards are more than enough, if you’re playing PvP you’re supposed to do it for fun, getting rewards (about one reward per game, that’s a lot!) is just a bonus and some incentive for people to try PvP out in the first place

So if A-net removed every reward you would get from doing dungeons/wvw you would still do it right?

the only rewards you get in wvw are the loot from other players and a few dragonites/empyreals from lords and, well now, the season stuff, yet there’s hundreds of players doing it.

“Rewards” can also mean titles, skills etc. You didn’t answer his question though. If all rewards were taken away, no titles, no loot, no karma, no XP, no badges, no dailies achievement etc was taken away, do you think anyone would bother to come to WvW?

and do you think anyone would do sPvp if there was no reward at all, again including titles, rank chests, track chests etc..

The last 1.5 years of Gw2 PvP would like a word with you.

Thieves backstabbing from stealth and two shotting was the reason I became a filthy condi bunker. Even if I’d survive their opening strike and healed they’d just go into stealth and do it again and this time my heal would be in CD.

I’d fight back, but, where are they?

The final straw were the warriors with HP regen, lots of armor, and stunning (and killing in a few swings while stunned).

Between having fun with a squishy build that required acrobatics and bunkering down to laugh at those same thieves and warriors. The laughing is fun too.

Pvp Only Masquerade, can we still get?

I was thinking the same earlier today, but none of the tracks showed a thing. All they are about is dungeon rewards (and region, whatever that means) so we can’t work the paths for specific skins hard or impossible to find in PvE (and now no longer in PvP either).

Yeah, I noticed this. Pretty dumb. I can finally get rid of my dual pistols in PvE since I have two sigils on my rifle, but now I must keep them for PvP.
