Nothing that I could say here has not already be said, but I will add my voice to the rest so it is known that at least one more person is not happy with this mish mash.

At the very least, of the very least, remove cities from the megaserver. It will still impede the communities to form and make organized RP/PvE events hard to do, but at least we have a haven to take refuge until a solution is found (even if the sad solution is to migrate to another game, something I was not even considering up to this last patch).

Don’t even remember from which LS part I got it but since I consider it one of the most hideous things in the game I destroyed it. I’d rather fill that bank slot with yet another stack of ascended material waiting to be refined…

Thanks for your needless, pointless, unnecessary and stupid post.

Back on topic. Do we have anything to guide ourselves with? Did anyone spot a dev example from the wardrobe that might tell us if the gas mask will get the weightless skin treatment?

So, now we have the wardrobe but will have armor weights, how does the gas mask behave? At its origin it is a weightless skin, but once applied it belongs to that particular armor type (once applied to heavy armor it cannot be applied to light armor).

Any dev answer? Because some of us love this skin and want to wear it on all eleven of our characters.

Pvp is getting frustrating

Kanto.1659

I was hoping someone could tell me what I’m doing wrong, but I feel that whenever I pvp at all, I seem to not deal any damage at all while also being stupid squishy regardless of how I build my character. I’ll run into thieves that deal 75% of my max hp with one back stab and then when I try to do that with a thief, I won’t do nearly as much. What factors should I consider? I’m tired of people just straight up owning me while I can’t do it to other players. Not even the newbies. I’m not referring to just my thief, though. Any of my characters. I’ve tried switching up the spvp runes and everything, but still drop in two to five hits.

What ever you do, you need Toughness. That is why Conditions are so used. No Power amulet has Toughness but the Condition ones do.

What this means is that no one wants to be trying to PvP and face a thief who will insta-gib us before we can fight back. And if we survive the opening strike they just stealth and do it again (except this time our panic button was used and our heal is on CD. GG).

Thanks to that, I speak for myself, I joined the throngs of Condition users. The moment I did that I went into a PvP spree just for the SHEER AND UNADULTERED PLEASURE of finding thieves and mocking their opening strikes to then curb stomp them (or watch them run ashamed and with their tail between their legs as I cap the point).

I speak of thieves, but I could mention warriors (never so much as managed to put a decent one under 80% as they did/do brutal damage while tanky + regen + immunities + stuns. I could dance around one for thirty seconds hitting non stop and perhaps shave 20% HP. The moment i ran out of tricks and endurance to dodge they’d stun me once and go to town. Bam bam, dead. GG).

Or mesmers (stun, leap, blurred sword skill + 3 explodey clones. Did you use your stun break? Well, too bad, the immobilize is not broken by a stun break. Did you use an immobilize breaker? Well too bad, you can’t use an immobilize breaker while stunned. GG).

The answer to all of this? Toughness. Not Vitality, mind, that just makes you a sack of HP that your heal can’t refill.

hotjoins unplayable

I used to hotjoin a lot, but lately I don’t feel the slightest interest in playing. It is not once in a while, it is constant 5 VS 4 and auto balances that end with the losing team still with one less (AKA team swapping).

The cheese is brutal. For the interest of ‘winning’ people do the kittentiest things of which ragequitting and team swapping are only two.

It comes to a point that the only thing I’d ask is to have a 5 VS 5 and let the gods sort them out.

I am not sure if this is a good idea. In fact, I am sure it is not a good idea. No one likes to play clone wars (okay, some people do), and most of us much prefer to mix and match in order to have a distinct and somewhat unique look based on different pieces put together and coloring them as we see fit.

From what I am given to understand this will go and we will have full outfits only with no coloring? I hope that I am mistaken. I currently have the cook outfit just for the boots and the chest piece which looks very formal once dyed black. I have no interest in the cook hat or the apron.

It really is disturbing that the devs refuse to acknowledge and adjust things for how people and zergs actually perform. When conditions are well more than half the game, why would they decide that reflecting them is a sane, fair option, especially when there are autoattacks that do it?

It’s bad enough that a heavy-CC build is generally crippled by champions, but hearing this just makes me question whether some devs need to be let go for some vacation time. Apparently, the two-week schedule is causing panic attacks that make things like the above seem like good ideas.

Because it’s all about adapting, im a condi engineer, but for these fights, i switch to PVT and get through it without too much trouble. This would be problematic for ppl who have not been able to craft multiple sets of gear though, i admit.

Berserker grenades here. I don’t change gear and do it np. At most I replace one of my utilities for the condition cleanse elixir.

3) dont join the high rank players team and then wonder why enemy players leave and autobalance kicks in…. just join the low rank guys and you wont be transfered xD

Just try to step into other’s shoes for once, imagine all 3 Knights got this anti-direct damage instead, and you run a full Berserker build, how would you feel?

Tried condi build. Later realized power is better. Retraited. Now happy.

Good for you!
People should still be able to run condition builds without being punished for it.

They can’t, not yet. Not until Anet fixes it. And I don’t mean this event. This event just makes condition appliers hurt themselves. In any other other content (even 5 man, less alone 150 people) condition builds are punishing their team maters by applying a wonderful 500 damage crits while their conditions slide off since even a 5 man group would top the condition cap, less alone 150.

I am usually a condition (DoT) lover even in games where DoTs are usually subpar since they need 12-20 seconds to do their damage while direct damage characters deal the same sort of damage in one swing, but GW2 is that one game where even that subpar existence of DoTs is brought to a whole new level.

Is this your idea of fun?

Counter productive achievements.

This one is big and the real reason I posted.

The first time I did the fight it was okay, and I just, yeah, kinda raid-ish, chaos and stuff.

Second time I tried to follow the achievements and suddenly the fun is gone. More importantly I am now working against my team by taking a valuable slot and not fighting.

  • Don’t get hit by the laser or lingering scorch marks: No longer do I dodge past the scorch mark not caring if I get hit because I can heal up. That would fail the achievement which in turn means I am twiddling my thumbs and hoping that all three colors will spawn where I am boxed in.
  • Don’t hit the holograms without the attunement: Not only am I going more slow mo because I don’t want the buff to run out while hitting (a problem with grenades snail lobbing) but once we get the mini holograms following us around I’m no longer shooting since I will hit the wrong ones.

In either case I am not helping my team anymore and just taking up space. Now multiply this for how many more others who are trying to do the same and suddenly I am left to wonder if this is not a ploy to make the content last longer by pitting players against players.

Because these achievements only work if we win this adds up to a number of failed fights where everything repeats itself with players trying to earn the achievements, but the fight failing since they are not helping.

The usual bugs.

Something I noticed and others have too: the blue circle spawns much more rarely than the others.

Watchknight loot bug: Killed twelve Knights solo and got six bags. Followed the advice in a thread here and joined a five person part and got six bags per watchknight.

Killed the spider three times: no achievement. And yes, I know of the cocoon and how she must not eat it. She did not. She spawns, she barely moves, she cocoons someone, we break those persons out, fight ends, no achievement.

The usual usual.

Saving LA was great. Kinda like WvW with some fighting, some zerging, and some rescuing. It was different. This patch? We’re back to fighting huge sacks of HP.

Huge sacks of HP with one shot attacks, I might add. And so overburdened with flashy effects I could not even tell if it was facing me or facing the other way, not that it made a difference since, despite lacking a tail, they can still hit behind them via fancy PbAoE. There might be a tell. I would be hard pressed to say if there was or not. Is it Anet’s official stance to reduce all graphical settings to a minimum to play their content? Please advise.

The watch knights themselves are okay-ish at around two to three minute long fights but the last boss at 20 minutes non stop is just eye watering.

This is way, way, way too long for something that relies on a hundred or so persons to know what to do when we have the Queensdale baby boom generation wandering in without a clue.

And I mean, seriously, not knowing that to do. I keep seeing dead people when we have a bus wide orange stripe saying not to be there.

Either the fights are shorter or they do not require coordination or they are in a smaller scale. But not all at once.

The difference is that the GS doesn’t count as a projectile. My grenades, and I’m berserker geared, thrown me fire, 10/15 stacks of bleed, poison, confusion…. And I’m like, wut?

If you’re Berserker-setup, you probably use a Rifle?
Ok, so press Grenade Kit button. Done. Can now fight the Knight properly.

It is not your own conditions that get reflected. It seems that any incoming condition is reflected back as a projectile.

Hrm, cannot agree with that, sorry. After consistently suffering Burning while using a Greatsword (as a Mesmer) yesterday, in the night I did some experimenting, and here’s what I found:

  • All conditions your skills apply get reflected to you.
  • All conditions your traits apply get reflected to you.
  • All combo-field conditions triggered by you get reflected to you.
  • All pet-based conditions get reflected to you.

That’s it.
Didn’t once managed to eat any condition which didn’t fit those four categories, and I needed those four to explain all the conditions I had. So for now, that’s what I’m going with.

If LoS via projectiles were an issue, me as an asura standing at 1200 should not have consistently gotten each and every single condition reflected. For example, not once have I managed to throw a Mirror Blade and not taken 3 Vulnerability stacks.

Wrong.

Grenade 1 is neither a projectile finisher nor a blast finished. What it does have is chance to bleed and giving vulnerability from traits (both baked in, cannot be removed, and to do so I would need to spec something else as Grenadier without the extra grenade is not worth it).

Yet (I paid attention this time just for this thread), I got the main culprits (bleed, burn, confusion poison) withe some peculiar ones (immobilize, cripple, weakness, chill).

Of course, in such numbers that my HP was plummeting. Can be done though. Use heal, then use my condition remover elixir during my heal’s CD. Alternating both leaves me able to continue fighting with a judicious application of 66% leech food and Regeneration.

At this point the only thing I would need to try (but one day into the patch and I’m already bored of it) is to remove all traits that add conditions and just spam rifle to see if projectiles add conditions or if it is the act of applying conditions which applies random conditions.

As a mesmer, I am running GS/Staff; when their condi reflection is up I GS the thing, throwing out berserker and spatial surging him. When his condi reflection goes down, I switch to staff.

But not for the conditions. As we know, in zergs, the conditions hit max stacks pretty fast. I use Staff for the Warlock, who does more damage the more conditions are on it.

With all the AoE, they don’t generally last very long, but sometimes they get lucky and stay up quite some time. Not sure why precisely, but I’m not complaining when it happens.

Kanto.1659

It is a pity because auto-attack is the one thing that really kills grenades. LoL is pretty much about skill shots. Shots that must be aimed and won’t hit automatically. But even LoL does not have champions where even their auto-attacks are… well… not auto.

Leaving 2, 3, 4 and 5 as skill shots is fine. But 1 should be less grenade and more.. rocket (grenades are dumb enough to be thrown by hand and reach 1500 range. Somehow our engineers throw further than most rifles and bows. Cyborg arms or something).

Auto-attack should follow the 99.99% of the other weapons and kits (someone point me to a weapon/kit where the auto-attack must be activated manually?) and hit. Not be aimed like a guardian’s tennis ball that is dodge when things move, but just hit. Again, like 99.99% of the game (even guardian’s and their tennis’ balls still shoot automatically and need not be aimed and clicked to shoot).

If there are five in one team and four in the other then there should be something similar to autobalance where there is an option to volunteer to be kicked out for a modest reward. If no volunteers then a random person is kicked for no reward.

That would the most simple, elegant and easy way to fix this problem. It would do nothing for those who drop out in the middle of the game but for that we have Dishonor.

If you mean hotjoin then Anet has nothing to do with it. Zero, nada. It is players who come in and out of games and if ten people are in map and the game ends those ten will be in the next one.

What ever anet might do about hotjoin would be quickly and immediately ruined by players though. Some people are so low as to be in a 4 VS4 game, start losing and swap to the winning team. Or lost once and leave the game making a balanced 5 VS 5 suddenly become a 5 VS 4 with GG to the lower number team.

Without enforced rules (like tourneys and Dishonor) humans just ruin everything they touch.

I’ve played against a few decapers and they are annoying as all hell. They don’t even do noticeable damage. It is just all pushbacks and knockbacks combined with immobilizes.

Builds that don’t hurt just hurt the team because they will still die against focused fire but won’t even have taken some HP off the enemies to help the team.

Regarding the duel of ranger and engineer. You’re missing the point. A bunker’s job is to steal a point. Bad players will try to go toe to toe. Good players will try to kill from range. Excellent players will mix it to decap so the bunker does not keep on reaping points for their team.

A lot of bunker buster builds are crap for team fights (PVT heroes), and on the times I find someone who is better than me and can kick my kitten I retreat, go the long way around and re-cap the point once they leave (or if they don’t leave I help my team since they now are doing teamfights at 4 VS 5. You know, the sort of thing team PvP is about, strategy.

If you want to experience the content as intended. Then you should solo/duo. Purposely handicapping yourself in a group just doesnt make sense.

I did. Duoed HotW P1 with a warrior friend while I changed from grenadier to bombs. Lotsa blinds, both of us fully berserker geared. Had a blast. Only wiped twice too, though I had to save her a bunch of times with stealth rezzes and sometimes finish off the trash on my own. We didn’t even skip a thing other than the wolves before the troll and even that I would have been game to do but she didn’t want to and it is true that their one-shot knockdowns would not be fun to deal with.

But I digress. I do not post much here but I read the forums. The names of you hardcore guys are known to me and I like reading your tales, the sometime wipes and all. It really is not your fault that the game is designed like this. As I mentioned a few pages back it took several games to finally end in GW2 and discover stacking. Incidentally what really saddens me is the limitations this meta has brought. Go melee or go home. As someone who has always eschewed big flashy crits for a more sustained and safe pace from range this is pretty limiting.

After all s it is like you are all saying ‘why do it in any other way than the easy way?’ and it is true. Fun is the answer but apparently it is not a welcome (or believable) answer, except for us headless chicken roleplayers. Why do things purposefully handicapping us? Why do things in any other way than the most efficient one?

Why run the marathon instead of getting into the car and doing the 40 km to the finish line? If there are loopholes in the rules (bad game design) indeed why not?

Anyway, moot point. We all play as we want and we are not convincing each other. In the end it is not much the bad design regarding enemies as the choice of making GW2 a super grindy game despite the promises of otherwise. Why must we run three paths to earn the tokens for a single armor piece? Why must we have legendaries with a three month farm/grind to achieve it? Once we have these in people will have to farm and 6 minutes CoF P1 become the norm.

The reactions to this thread are quite frankly ridiculous. This is a post for those seeking to join and play fun, traditional runs of the dungeon – and nothing else.

It’s not an attack on your precious lifestyle. You’re reading too far into it. I’m not trying to destroy your precious little stacking game – the developers are the only ones who can decide on when, how, or even if this is going to happen. I’m not even trying to insult you. I’m not calling you bad players. The playstyle is unskillful, mindless, and boring – that’s not a personal insult and it’s not subjective. That doesn’t reflect on you. It certainly doesn’t make you unskilled – all it means is that you’ve done everything in your power to chase carrots as efficiently and quickly as possible, and there’s nothing innately wrong with that. It’s just that you aren’t utilizing the mechanics of the game to their full extent, because you don’t have to. The game doesn’t require it, after all, so why make things harder on yourself other than for the enjoyment of doing so; that enjoyment is the entire reason for the thread.

I am an intensely bored player looking to enjoy himself and play the game the way it was played before stacking became the norm. No, it doesn’t bother me that you have your all zerk speed runs or other explicitly special runs. What disgusts me is that stacking is the assumed meta – that, in order to play otherwise, one has to make threads like these and find likeminded people and explicitly post LFG messages JUST to get a group that wants to play. So yes, I’m a little bit angry that my favorite game has devolved to that point. And I’m more than a little bit angry that, in seeing my attempt to salvage the game for myself and a few others, the first reaction of the community is to derail my thread and get into hostile arguments for no good reason.

Basically, I ask you to express your opinion in a reasonable fashion, enjoy the game your way, and allow me to enjoy it in mine. If you’re not interested in participating or in reasonable discussion, the thread is not for you and has never been for you. God knows you have a billion others. I have to work a LOT harder for it than you do – all you have to do is spend 30 seconds in the LFG system, whereas I have to come in here and deal with this.

I’m not going to bother arguing any longer. And I haven’t bothered in several days. It’s pointless. There’s no need to. It’s not my intention nor my point to participate in pointless hostility.

But, because I was disillusioned and bitter at the time of making the thread, I will clean up the original post. God knows it wasn’t helping things, and it probably came off worse than it needed to, but the direction this thread has gone really sheds light on how far the Guild Wars community has fallen. And that’s the saddest thing. In a purely cooperative game with remarkably friendly design, the community is this prone to hostility. Think on that.

Quoted in full. I can but offer one like.

Like it was mentioned several times, both sides play as they want. I was reared on ‘traditional’ dungeon runs and this newfangled stacking thing (fortunately reserved for GW2 only, heavens be blessed) does nothing for me. Fortunately I play with other similar thinking individuals.

What ever we may say it took me coming to GW2 to meet the ‘stack in a corner to kill the boss’ tactic.

NWN (so ooooold!), City of Heroes/Villains (man, I miss that game), Champions Online, Tera, I even dare to put Diablo 2, WoW (of course) and never did I get to see stacking. It was always ‘learn the boss strategies, then work with them’.

But it was also a trinity type of games. The ‘stacking’ did not happen, but the boss was focused on one person, the tank, and if they were moderately conversant with their class mechanics the boss would only focus on them, allowing for positioning and leaving the others only to focus on their damage (and healing) and avoiding the AoEs.

While I do not miss the tank + healer dynamics for obvious reasons (such as the aforementioned half hour waits trying to find a healer or a tank who could keep aggro) I did like the pitting of myself against the AI and keeping on top of my game.

Kholer is a perfect example only spoiled by GW2’s idea that we should stop ourselves from one-shot kills via the ability to discern animations, an idea spoiled by an incredible amount of spell-effects centered on a normal human sized boss. Make Kholer twice the height of a human (as befits a boss anyway) and we might be able to see things better.

Do I miss the party wipes, sometimes even the disbanding because we couldn’t get past Kholer when we wandered into the place at level 30+? No, but I do not miss the raid wipes either. On the other hand I do miss that ‘YEAH! We did it!!’ from finally beating the encounter.

This is what the new dungeon meta is killing. A new player who joins is immediately indoctrinated into the stack&spank strategy and never even gets to learn the mechanics behind a particular boss.

Then comes the Marionette where we cannot stack and the new (or even old) players stutter and freeze at something that cannot be killed in fifteen seconds and must be navigated at a more sustained pace.

Don’t worry, I’m sure he/she has some snappy oh-so-clever “l2p” retort for that too. (Or maybe “that never happens to me!”)

It happens less these days. Perhaps people got bored of it. But I just got one more like that.

There I was, epic fight against a tanky ranger. We’re blasting each other and trying to see who can gain an edge. Suddenly, pull, plummet. Kitten…. Ok, I snark on map chat. Thief answers smugly. Go back to the same point. Thief was still there but waiting on top of the ramparts. Jumps down. Stealths. Since I saw him this time I had my finger on Elixir S. He pulls, I press the button. We start to fight… He is kitten.. Pardon, I mean, his skill is subpar. Doesn’t do much, evades lots, etcetc. Suddenly, stealth. I check my Elixir S since I knew what was coming. Nope, still 30ish seconds to kittenay, I leave.

Staying there would simply be another plummet to my death so I gave him the point despite being at 90% HP.

The thing with skyhammer is not the easily noticed stuff. Not a warrior with knockback or fears, not an enginer with knockbacks, not a mesmer with their Focus pull. No, the thing is stuff we can’t do kitten about.

A thief that pulls from stealth and we can literally do NOTHING about it because lolstealth.

I do not like skipping. But some stuff I skip. For example. snowbound fractal, after destroying the elemental. The next part I skip. Mobs don’t give loot, the patrols are far apart. Skip.

Some stuff though, annoys me. Let us repeatedly jump on this pixel here until we manage to land on it, then run on a wall, use swiftness, make a leap.

Yikes. Players grabbed the liberty we got away from WoW corridor like instance and instantly exploited the kitten out of that. Y’know, almost like begging designers to kill the big instances and herd players back into corridor like instances since it is the only way to get players to play the game instead of exploit it.

P.S. in fact, simply removing the leashing of mobs (why do we even have it in dungeons? I see no reason for it) would prevent most of the skipping. In exchange kill silvers. They have too much HP and not enough loot. Downgrade dungeon mobs to Veterans.

A bell rings as the door to the shop flies open. A voluptuous woman wearing leather armor that seems designed more for showing skin than protecting it steps into the shop. She has an intricate looking long bow slung over her shoulder and is followed into the shop by a brown colored bear. Despite her very feminine and very young looking face she screams in an unnaturally deep and rough voice.

WOMAN: “WHERE IS TRAIN!!?”

SHOPKEEP: “To the left you will find a whine that is very popular with Forum Warriors of all sorts. “Thanks Fur Nuthin Anet!” comes to us from the depths of Rata Sum. It is a little difficult to describe so I will read from the label. Apparently, it is steeped in exceptional ignorance of systems design with overtones of unwarranted entitlement. To be honest, those Asura talk way over my head so I am not totally sure what they mean by any of that.”

The main problem is, in the case of Kohler, that when the party is all stacked in that small space I can’t see kitten. Back in the days when this “stacking” thing was not in use, I had no issue dodging him. But now, with all the big norn warriors and stuff + my explosions, I can’t see kitten.
Thx for the input so far, I will try to adapt.

Pretty much this. I have lost interest in dungeons these past months and only do them with similar minded friends because I have no patience for stacking. Things that were easy such as dodging the attacks become kill fests with my camera inside other players and the bosses tells lost in a blinding fury of spell animations and moving party members.

Honest feedback for future boss encounters.

Teq is not too hard and I am sure the worm won’t be too hard either once it has been “solved”

It requires too much organization, as it evident by the amount of servers where people have stopped doing that event. The wurm bosses will not be any different, since they arguably require even more organization than Tequatl.

All three wurms must be defeated within one minute of each other

Endless amounts of mob and no loot.

The last two events have TERRIBLE loot. I did the Wurm one, got exactly one champ bag off the midboss. Yay. I got in fifteen minutes of chaos what I could have gotten in thirty seconds of champ train.

Then I did the Marionette thing, and while my lane was able to cut one string, and almost cut a second before the event ended (my stage cleared ours with plenty of time), the event ended anyways and all I got was a cheap green and some key bits.

No thank you.

This is just horrible loot, horrible. If you’re going to only reward success, then reward INDIVIDUAL success. If you clear your stage, you get loot. If you defend your lane well during your other four rounds, then you get loot. If you deposit a bunch of color gas into the siphons, you get loot, reward players for doing stuff, don’t punish them for the failure of others.

This. Very much this. Individual success pushes towards group success.

Welp, already bored of this patch.

I’m not even sure I’ll bother finishing it. I’ll chalk it with SAB and Tequilla. The marionette is okay. I might still rock it, but it kittenes me off to be killing hundreds of mobs for no loot, then go in, kill my champ np because, c’mon, dodge, dod damage, dodge, res someone downed, damage, dodge. Nothing dungeons has not taught us. And then we must sit in our little dome and /sleep while waiting for the other groups to do theirs (or fail) while we cannot help…. Why? No idea.

Then we go back to kill hundreds of mobs without loot and watch the other lanes fail one after the one.

But, okay, I can see it is doable, more than Tequilla, even though I haven’t seen yet what comes after breaking all the chains.

But the wurms. Oh kitten. No, seriously, kitten it up up the kitten where the kitten does not kitty. Three bosses at once and each with their own MO, mobs with so much HP that I gave up after one minute, by the clock, of trying to kill a veteran with a berserker grenadier and not taking more than half HP. I suppose we must run past the enemies to deposit the bombs?

All of this once every two hours?

Pass. Good luck, GG, etc.
