It kinda is. A perma 50% damage reduction if traited and surrounded by five mobs. The few times I’m forced to remove it because a boss does not play well with minions I notice how charging in to drop corrosive cloud and spin-to-win (Traitor!) makes my shroud melt.

Question About Dyes from Screenshot

There are 450+ dyes in the game, so it will be difficult to just look and identify dyes from a screenshot. I suggest you open your Hero window, go to Character, then Dyes, the click on the lil gear and choose ‘Show locked dyes also’.

Now you can have fun with that screenshot and comparing.

Right, downscaling is actually cool for us who don’t like the idea of grey mobs. It may grow on you or it may not but later on you’ll realize that you tear through lower level mobs, downscaling or not. But it must exist because a lot of things in the game actually ask you to go back to those lower level areas. Imagine trying to do anything in the game when things can be one shot by a level 80? WoW has this problem with achievements and max levels stealing quest mobs from low levels. In GW2 this does not exist. High level will kill much faster than the low level, but not one shot, which allows others to also get a hit in and get credit.

Your current problem is that you’re playing a mesmer. Mesmers are great and you’ll be loved by everyone due to what you bring. I’m not current on other games to make a good comparison, but a mesmer buffs and enhances the party by a lot.

Downside? They aren’t that great for PvE. Not baaaad, PvE isn’t actually difficult. PvE is easy. A class not being good at PvE just means it kills more slowly.

Once you’re 80 the Chronomancer specialization will fix some of the flaws the plain mesmer has, but it still won’t make miracles. If you are playing a mesmer never expect to do more damage than other classes do.

This is all to say that the Revenant is actually a pretty strong direct damage class. Where you are setting up skills, prepping illusions, shattering, etc, the Revenant is auto attacking things to death.

Even with the level difference it is what’s happening. You’re throwing a skill, making an illusion, throwing a second skill, shattering. In the meanwhile the Revenant autoattacked three times and killed the thing.

I think you must know exactly what it means to play a support, really welcome, but lower damage class, and playing a direct damage class.

The Revenant does bring group support too, but what the mesmer can bring only a mesmer can do in the whole of GW2.

Reaper build for open world

For open world this is what I personally use. Getting viper gear is expensive but one Silverwastes a day is enough to pay for one piece of gear. You can run the story twice and get two viper weapons.

Open world usually has plenty of mobs so Rise can be kept perma or close to. I find it has good burst and is very durable. Drop Corrosive Cloud and Shroud 4 on it for extra damage.

Untethered Achievement

Kanto.1659

Best bet to solo this achievement is using a stealth class.

- stealth past every thing until you reach Zoja/Logan
- kill the clones
- stealth past everything until the final fight. make sure to not get hit by the vines
- kill boss

Otherwise if you have friends, just let them kill everything or finish the instance and you’ll get the achievment.

Yes, this achievement was fixed.

Nothing in the final fight was fixed though.

Besides most of the bugs, the only really anoying or tricky achievement is the Flights of Fancy. Here it is very important to not get hit by:

- rocks and orbs during the flight phases
- the vines in the final phase. Getting hit by them WILL remove the ability to get the achievement. Happened to me, so just make sure to dodge them while finishing Mordy.

Don’t forget if you land from too high (doesn’t have to be much, just enough to take fall damage, even if it’s just 1k) you also lose the achievment.

A couple of years ago, when we could still fight a dungeon boss, die, respawn and run back to the fight, I was very proud on how my mesmer usually was the last to die, and how I could keep the boss busy while the party members ran back so we didn’t lose progress.

So much that I traded my berserker gear for knight to further increase this. After a week I noticed that if I ate a big hit from a boss I would die anyway, Knight gear or not. And I switched back to berserker.

Two years later I’m still berserker gear and my ‘tanky’ character is an engineer with Rabid gear due to the changes to conditions. I don’t notice a difference in survivability with the Rabid gear. if I fight the fire wyverns over the second flax farm and they get their big hits in I die same as my berserker geared characters.

‘I play the way I want because it’s a game meant for fun’ only works when we’re not doing group content that has checks where underperforming can create a fail.

It’s cool to ‘play the way we want’ in a dungeon, for example, since t only means that instead of 15 minutes it takes half an hour, no biggie.

But that line of thought has permeated GW2 and now that we get timers and DPS checks people still treat it as a dungeon where they can whittle a boss down.

In fact, it boils down to DPS meters, the arch-nemesis of the ‘I play the way I want’ crowd. Then we can/could see if berserkers really spend their time dead and if knighters really do spend time enough alive to compensate their subpar damage.

Having played with both gearsets it is my (not math backed) opinion that even dying more often, WPing back and getting back into the fight, the berserker will do more damage.

Trinkets are pretty much free with laurels. Rings are free from fractals. You’ll need to craft a weapon if you want to be bleeding edge, but it’s not the stat difference from full ascended armor that will make or break a raid.

Full ascended (armor, weapons, trinkets) is 12.5% extra damage and the weapon by itself is a wooping near 6%. If you already have trinkets then full ascended armor is whooping 2% damage increase.

C’mon. You’ll get more out of not missing one auto attack than you will from full ascended armor.

Kanto.1659

I wonder how it must have been to make gold before HoT. I left for a year and returned a week before HoT hit and spent that week RPing and avoiding PvE.

I had around 160g.

HoT hits and I:

- Fully equipped my Revenant (not sure of the prices, but six Rune of Strength, exotic armor + weapons and Sigils of Strength and Bloodlust + trinkets).
- Bought the character starter pack (3.5k gems).
- Bought the Heavy Aether armor (800 gems).
- Bought the Monk outfit (700 gems).
- Bought the Zodiac Light Armor (800 gems).
- Bough the Bandit pack (2k gems).

HoT released October the 23rd and today’s the 30th of November, so in around one month I made… about… dunno… 1k gold? I vaguely remember 3.5k gems being 450g gems, the armors and outfits were around 160g each and the 2k gems were, I think, 340g. So perhaps closer to 1.2k gold in a month and a week.

I’m not taking sides on this ‘gold is hard to make, how do we earn gold now HoT hit!?’ but I’m left wondering at how much did people earn before.

I know what I’m making now is enough for my needs but it’s true I’m not making ascended armor (useless other than for fractals) or legendaries (lol@cost for a skin).

Only feasible way to ascended = credit card?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The difference ascended armor makes (not weapon + trinkets) is less than missing a few autoattacks. Of course pug raids will want full ascended. Pugs are also known to want full ascended + 10k AP to run dungeons.

The speed of hammer skills

Kanto.1659

In a real situation instead of a spreadsheet the hammer outshines our other weapons. Mobs that run in our direction and get hammered by several hits before getting lose, little to no downtime since we’re not spending time dodging and recovering HP from the inevitable autoattacks.

And despite its DPS being low (read, damage per second, not simply damage) it has a great burst that easily two shots open world critters, even HoT ones.

Of course that if it is a single critter, or an easy boss, by all means, switch to the sword once close enough.

So no, hammer’s fine.

Used to be an engineer. I love their bag of tricks. Very flexible, can swap a few things around be prepared for most anything. But I like playing ranged and grenades are a PITA. The changes to snap AoE to target are good on the surface, until we realize there are half a dozen other AoEs we throw, from elixirs to turrets.

So I went to Revenant once I saw that their ranged options were actually pretty decent and buffing the party is always welcome. Some one is already putting Might to 25? S’cool, I’ll perma Protection instead.

Is there actually good loot out of this? Because I run the VB meta and end up with a near full inventory, and yes, they are just crappy blues and greens, mostly, but all those mats end up making a decent penny for us not chasing legendaries.

Same for AB after a successful Tarir. We open all those 25-26 chests and the inventory is full with a few rares to the mix. Again blues and greens but GW2 has specialized in quantity over quality.

But what of TD or DS? These difficult metas, what do people usually get as loot?

I’ll leave the OP and his spreadsheet for a factual answer, but I find the hammer to shine in actual combat. The time we spend running after or to something is a few whacks by the hammer, and finding that sweet spot where #2 hits twice nets 15-20k hits every 2 seconds.

We can’t really rely on that though. Bosses that move, bosses who don’t have a large hitbox and the sweet spot is harder to find.

On the auto-attack it is obvious we lag behind the sword, which does roughly the same, or a bit more damage, while hitting much, much faster, but hammer does have #2, sweet spot or not, but then we don’t use #2 on Shiro either.

How do we make gold now??

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Kanto.1659

It’s true. Running both flax farm is dull and costs me around 40 minutes, but I would not make 12-20g in 40 minutes (others might, I’m sure I wouldn’t).

I need(ed) the gold because there were things I was after. That means unholstering the credit card or farm. I consider farming part of the game though. Everything we do we do for the reward, be it a skin, or the gold to buy a skin. What reason do we have to run a meta more than once, a dungeon path more than the first five or six times, if not to chase a reward for our needs?

This may be where we differ. If say ‘only playing’ because playing involves everything. Chasing after skins/rewards is part of GW2/games, and it has always involved grind, or farm, be it farming dungeons for the tokens or farming gold to buy the skin. To me doing one VB and one Tarir a day is ‘just playing’. Neither is onerous, neither is not something I would not be doing anyway, the difference being that I log on and where I would usually be ‘well, what now? Chase achievements? Chase masteries? Map completion? Do a meta? PvP?’ instead I am ‘okay, only X more gold to buy Y, so lets check which meta is on’.

Running around killing beasties and looting their corpses is what 90% of GW2 is about

But my post was meant for the original poster who complained there are no more means of farming gold any more other than spending RL cash.

There are, but it means putting our back to it. Time VS RL cash. Spend time and grind the gold. Spend RL cash and have extra time to do other things than chase gold.

P.S (I also have a guild and love them, but I’m not dumping vast sums of gold into something I see dubious use. It’s still my time and my virtual currency and if you decided to spend yours then kudos, but it’s still 10-15g a day you’re giving away. You know, like the devs intended when they made such absurd prices).

All these threads abut having problem making gold. Since HoT came out I:

- Bought the 3.5k gem pack (the Tron foraging tools, inventory slots and copper salvager).
- Bought the 800 gems Heavy Aether armor (I just wanted the gloves. Pity I didn’t know about the 20% off sale that came afterwards).
- Bought the 560 gems monk outfit (usually at 700 gems).

So that’s around… 670 gold or something? I’ll agree if you’re after a precursor it’s peanuts, but that was me just playing HoT, doing the events and exploring the map.

I see many of these comments but do then always wonder what they consider “just playing”. By just playing at best I make 100 gold in 2 weeks, at worse 10 gold. On average something in-between.

Maybe it depends on your preferred game-elements.

‘Just playing’ is:

- Everyday run both flax farms. I have eight levels 80 so it used to net 20+g a day and nowadays around 12g or so. It was a lot of hassle ferrying them across three maps and some of them I have not played in literally years.
– Try for a Tarir and a VB meta each day. More Tarirs aren’t bad. Neither are more VBs. Making an effort to pick the crates floating in the air as well even at the cost of a boss or two.
- Mine everything, forage everything. Even stuff at 20c I was throwing at the TP.

An average a day goes between 40 to 50g but I’m burning out. I still want the Crystal Arbiter pack mostly for the immortal skin which means another 372g or so.

Silverwastes might work better but I’m not fond of that map.

The reason why people don’t complain too loudly is that there is 0.1% underwater in HoT which is where people are in. As soon as we head out into old Tyria and have nodes we want to mine underwater, hero points, dynamic events, then it messes up.

There has been an outcry, but it went unanswered. The beautiful thing with devs and forums is that we can protest for six months and… they.. can.. just…choose…not…to…answer. After six months we give up and the devs can high five each other.

At least acknowledging the problem would be nice.

In all games with houing which I’ve played we always could hit the auction house and buy a few cheap chairs, tables, beds, lights, wardrobes, vases, books, etc. Almost always for the price of peanuts.

Then we could buy the ornate or glowing or big or racial thematic furniture for a lot of currency, or craft it.

Anet seems undecided whether to treat guild halls as housing or not. On one hand not, with these prices and the gating, and the obscene amount of mats needed to upgrade the GH. On the other we are given chairs and tables.

Funny thing. My guild claimed the Lost Precipice and we immediately roamed around exclaiming in awe at the sheer size of it (it’s no guild hall, I said, it’s a guild city!), and we started quartering right away with people choosing spots they would claim as their ‘home’, or workshops.

Well, other than me saying ‘2k items limit? That’s not a lot. Not when we have 10-20 guildies wanting to turn it into a home on top of the GM wanting to make a pretty GH’ now we realize there is no such danger.

Champ snipers are a nightmare. Elites are something to be rightfully feared, but to be honest even veteran snipers can easily kill groups. This happens all the time in Tarir where people ignore them (I find myself killing them alone, and it takes for ever since veteran mobs there seem to have double the HP despite only being level 80).

People ignore them, and the elite frogs, because they can be ignored since they are moving around, but once it comes to the octovine vulnerable phase both the snipers and the elite frogs can and do wipe groups without a problem.

But with some practice you’ll come to realize they are not that problem. Just strafing makes them miss the firey line on the ground. They will shoot three arrows in a row and those needed to be dodged. They will run in our direction and do a knockback kick but it’s not particularly dangerous. The danger lies in ignoring them when they stealth to go hit something else or forget that they exist.

I’m not sure why people want raids. All metas other than VB are raids in all but name. Coordinated effort between groups needed and all, which is why it so often ends in tears (and deserted).
