I have lost hope for a rework on the Guard’s shield skills as well. But….if they are willing to rework the guardian’s shield skills I would suggest the following.
#4: Remove the protection boon, instead give it something like the reversal of fortune from GW1 http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Reversal_of_Fortune. Block 1 attack, attacked ally regains some health (unsure about the amount of healing, must not be OP obviously).
#5: The dome-like skill animation is okay imo. Maybe make the channeling a bit longer and make it a dome that reflects projectiles (Feedback-like?). Cool-down might stay the same.
However this is just a suggestion.
Wish I could have seen that show.. ahww well.
As for Lupi solo concerned, Acotje has mainly explained it all. I have only 3 additions if I may.
1. When I solo Lupi as a thief, I use Pistol 5 to add some blindness to the spawned locust.
2. When he goes invulnerable and changes to phase 2, I would use daggerstorm to gain stability and prevent this forced grub spawn to be unable to stun me.
3. In your generel option, be sure set off “prevents you from running trough your enemies” option, I find it very diffucult to push lupi against the wall when this is still highlighted.
Hope it helps.
PVE-wise, I think SoM is at a good place as it is. PVP-wise I would have no opinion on it. I never play as a Thief in PVP. I have seen 1 condi Thief using SoM and he/she looked like he/she was doing a fine job.
As far as Iám PVE concerned, I use SoM when solo-ing/duo-ing some certain bosses in dungeons. SoM seems to give a me better healing per second than Hide in the Shadows or Witdraw.
Should SoM be improved (healing pet attack wise) I would really feel overpowered during thise boss fights.
But.. this is just personal experience.
To level up quickly (non- PVP) I would advise the following:
- Edge of the Mist;
Just follow the zerg and complete event after event, note: can be quite boring
Weapons:
Thief—Shortbow (to tag as much as possible I guess);
Necromancer— Staff and ground-target Marks;
Tomes of Knowledge:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tome_of_knowledge
Mostly obtained with during you’re PVP reward tracks
Hope to have helped a little.
None of the venons except the elite “Basilisk Venom” are useful in the current meta.
Save it for the day you have spare points. (you will, believe me)
I can only but agree with Soulsin. I have 2 Thieves, 1 with a berserker build and 1 with a condition “venoms” build. Neither of these two use Skelk Venom. You’re better of with the other 3 heal skills.
Good day,
For those PVE condition Thieves out there I want to share this build i’ve been using the last 6 months. I would mainly use this build for solo content purpose or during dungeons while you are the only person spec’d for condition damage.
Note:
- You may want to switch the 2nd set to: Dagger/Pistol depending on the situation.
- You actually need 3 weapons in total, saves you some cash too.
My opening rotation:
1. Activate all 3 venoms;
2. Get in (steal F1) range from target;
3. Use Death Blossem, imediatly followed by Steal (F1);
You will teleport to your foe while channeld your death blossem resulting in a free opening strike;
4. Perform 2 more Death Blossems (or 3 when you have initiative left);
5. Dodge, target will get extra bleeding due caltrops (Uncatchable);
6. Use Signet of Agility to regain energy (and cure 1 condition);
7. Dodge some more to stack more bleed-stacks;
[Target still standing?]
8. Swap to you’re second weapon-set (if you use pistol/dagger as 2nd weapon-set);
9. Use shadow Strike to create distance and keep more pressure with torment-condition;
10. Auto-attack with pistol 1 to keep bleed-stacks on the target;
[Wait..the Target still stands? Must be some Vet or Champ you’re fighting]
11. Auto-attack with pistol 1 till you have regained all initiative;
12. Rinse and repeat;
I hope I may have helped the small group of PVE condi-Thieves out there:)

You’re either really good or really bad at thief.
I can solo some dungeons as a Thief, but do not ask me to play Thief in PVP..or WvW
Just like Selver said, you’re either really good or really bad.
The best Thieves, are those that use Shadow Refuge and immediatly dash right trough it, having 2 seconds stealth and wonder why they were not able to skipp the trash mobs.
(edited by KevinB.9643)
Thief-Guardian in Caudecus’ Manor is really great!
Agreed, I have to complete my CM Track and I always duo this run with a (casual) player, maining Guard. I therefore play as Thief (not my main).
Thanks JustTrogdor
Hi there all,
I just received this mail from someone pretending to be from the Arena net Staff-members. Clearly the mail states that it was send by another player.
I posted a picture as well (removed the player’s name though), I just wanted to make sure that this is a scam.
For as far as PVE pug-dungeon runs concerned, I prefer playing guard over warrior.
I may lack the ability to stack might or buffing with banners as such, but I provide: blocks, aborbs, reflects, condi cleanses, regens and other things that may keep the party rolling.
Hope its helps..
Skype and Teamspeak for me:
Skype: only real live friends and some acquaintances;
Teamspeak: non- real live people and mostly guild;
Dirtynwah has pretty much explained the most actually.
Hi there OP,
I can only advice the guardian so far, since I have played Guard since I started. However I dont know anything about guard-WvW roaming.
- Easy to learn, hard to master:
I found the guard easy to play with because of all the boons. The mastering comes with adapting to certain situations.
Do you need..
- An extra block—Retreat
- reflects — Wall of reflection
- condition cleansing — Smite condition, purging flames)
ect ect ect.
- PvP
Tbh, Iám not good in pvp, but I found the guard extremely usefull, even if it’s just for point-holding and trolling or buffing allies and calling targets. But again, I fail at PvP.
- WvW roaming
I can’t help you much on this point since I avoid WvW even more than I avoid PVP. I do think Guard is nice to use during solo WvW roaming.
- Solo PVE
I think that the guard is a good class for solo PVE, (do you mean dungeon solo-ing as well?) because of all the boons and blocks and such the Guard can pretty much survive on it’s own.
- Traits & Skills
I dont think the guard’s skills and traits are to difficult to understand.
- Fun to play?
Well this is a grey area, what do you by “fun to play”?
I like the class because adapting to certain situations (if we’re talking about dungeon PUG runs) can really make or break the party.
Certain situations in dungeons where the Guard (I think) may shine:
- heavy conditions—->multiple condi cleanses;
- crowd controls—-> multiple party stabilities;
- Projectiles—->reflects, absorbs;
- Heavy melee damage —-> blinds, blocks;
- Downed Ally—-> multi block rezz;
This is just personal experience, hope it’s helpfull.
Hi there OP,
I would pick engineer for perma-swiftness, but the skill floor is high to master.
If it’s true what Nagr said, that Ele has the highest skill floor. Then Engi must be close to second-highest skill floor.
Are you looking for a non-heavy character btw?
Hi there,
You may want to use this website for easy and money-saving weapon crafting.
I have found this website very usefull.
(This is what you needed right?)
Hi there,
What guild are you looking for? As far as language concerned, Iám in a (small) dutch guild but Iám almost always ready to help out players.
If you can’t join the guild because of the language barrier, thats okay. Contact me in-game if you need help with PVE content.
Iám very bad at WvW and PVP, so I can’t help you with that..sorry.
Good day,
I wanted to share my “Vampiric Well O’ Mancer” build with fellow necromancer players. Please keep in mind that this is a PVE build which I find really usefull in dungeons.
This build is being used in melee-combat for the most of the fight. Every well you place, every crit you make will result in life-stealing.
This is the build so far:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQRBIbhGyIJNt0WTDHuJQGipbvrjO4IhqdA-TBSBwAFV+FRJ419Hup+DK9DIM/p5kAA4JAIIAzB-e
- I have left 1 utility slot open as a what I like to call it “a wild card”. If my party is stacking and needs more blinding, I will go with well of darkness, If Iám suspectible to control effects I would go with well of power.
- Feel free to swap Well of Blood for Consume Conditions for condition heavy foes.
- For this build I only use 1 Dagger for both weapon sets. (Saves you some money
)
- Use Death Shroud every 10 seconds to gain 5 seconds of fury. When you will not use any of the death shroud skills (mostly Life Blast and Life Transfer) immediatly switch back and use that 5 seconds Fury for your normal weapons and utilities.
- Well of Corruption is a must in every boss fight. First of all, the skill converts each boon to a condition. Even if the boss does not have any boons active, “Defiance” is for as I know (correct me if Iám wrong on this) considerd a Boon resulting in 1 extra condition on the boss for every pulse. The minor trait “Target the Weak” increases your dps by 2% for every unique condition.
- Remember to use “Locust Swarm” (warhorn 5). True, the skill does little damage of its own, but: The skill has 10 impacts, each seperate tick has a change to result in a crit, each crit has a change to result in life-steal..thus more dps. Iám not sure if those 10 impacts are divided between a maximum of 5 foes, or if the skill may have 10 ticks for every foe.
(10 impacts with a maximum of 5 foes would result in 50 impacts at most, tough this seems a little OP)
- Feel free to swap “Vampiric Precision” for “Transfusion” for a more party-wide heal burst if your running with pugs that are less able to survive on their own.
I have yet to think of a build rotation, I will update my post when have the rotation ready.
Good day everyone,
During the past week I have been building on my Sinister Engineer build for dungeons. Although people prefer full berserker for organized groups, I insisted on making this build anyway.
Sinister relies on both power and condition damage, when I play dungeons I am mostly do only one person stacking conditions which is in favor of my build.
This build is to be used for: PVE solo content, dungeons parties which has no condimancer or maybe even solo dungeoneer.
I would not use this build in: WvW since it lacks toughness and vitality or world bosses, since too many people apply conditions, which may render your dps output.
Please note: I do not play engineer as my main, nor do I know everything about the engi. I recently started playing dungeons with the class because I felt I needed to give this great class a second chance. So far, I start to like the class even more and more because of the diversity and adapting to every situation gives you that real " engineering feeling".
This is the build so far:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQJAqOlUUpEr1ah1rRSLoRdHQ/iOU3P3gA8UA-TByHABWoHQWzf1qEcgHAQuK/uV9Hz2fAgTAApAWUZF-e
I have left 1 skill slot open which I use as my “wild card”. I would use the following skills in different situations:
Bomb Kit— For an extra might stack (BoB) or extra fire field, blindness;
Tool Kit— Extra confusion stack and shield;
Elixer S— For stealth stacking (Trow elixer S) and invulnerability;
Exlixer R— Extra endurance or a lazy rezz (Trow Elixer R) for downed teammates;
Exlixer B— When I feel comfortable and my teammates know how to survive I use this for some extra boons, or for an extra stability (Trow elixer B );
Elixer U— Mainly when I don’t have a guard or mesmer in my team, I have 1 reflect/absorb with (Trow elixer U);
This build uses 6 runes of the Aristocracy which is a nice rune in combination with some might stacking;
My might stacking rotation:
(note: there are other might stacking rotations, or better ones)
1: if you use Bomb Kit, place Big O’l Bomb first. Otherwise skip this part;
2: Use napalm, flamethrower;
3: Flame Blast / Detonate Flame Blast;
4: Healing Turret / Detonate Healing Turret:
5: Magnetic Shield / Magnetic Inversion;
Unfortunately I do not have a dps rotation yet, will work on that in the near future
Apologies for the long post, I hope may have helped people out with this build.
(edited by KevinB.9643)
I would like to thank all of you for your advice and help. Will get my last rune of aristrocracy to complete my build. I will give it some try-out and post the build in the build-thread for those who are interested.
Thanks again for all the help and advice.
Cheers
Yesterday i got to lvl 80 with my guardian and I am looking for a pve only build how i can easily survive dungeons and orr.
I don’t have much money for a berserker set. Since i recently bought a koss set.
Even if meta is the best tactic or not depending the situation, did we give the OP the answer he/she needed already?
I mainly use FT for the napalm fire field and blast finisher. And I prefer bomb kit over grenade kit because I dont like to keep button-mashing to place the grenades, but I will give it a try.
one if the reasons I avoid playing Ele is that ppl did not appreciate me camping staff. And they told me that I was a waste of dps because I should be might stacking with S / X or D/F (I dont know for sure)
I think PUG’s find me camping staff more forgiving when there is a 1st Ele that uses a might stacking/ LH build.
But again, I dont main Ele
It really takes that long? Then I need to use the rotation at the start of combat if I have a party that does not stop to stack might before hand. I see your point Dimes, but I may have typed it wrong, I mean that I may be able to stack that might before hand it’s not like I need to.
The reason why I made the list is to have a comformation from Elegy that I understand the might stacking rotation.
Tbh, you would be surprised how many pugs dont stack might who are actualy better at might stacking then my engi…
Just have 2 guards out of 13 lv 80’s (please dont comment on that )
If you want the full set it will take you a couple of runs. So prepare yourself
So i’ve done some build editing tonight and have made some changes to the build. Note: I dont have the build just yet, because I lack the tokens for buying 3 more Rune of the Aristocracy.
- removed sigil of earth for sigil of Battle;
- removed Exiler U/Toss Elixer U since it’s to situational and replaced it with Tool-kit for more condi.
- Replaced incendiary power with Enchance Performance (Another might stack):
So if use the might stacking combo which I got from Elegy it should look something like this, note that I use P/S instead of Rifle:
- Big O’l Bomb; (1)
- Napalm;
- Flame blast / Detonate Flame blast; (2)
- Healing Turret / Detonate Healing Turret (triggers enchance performance as well); (3)(4)
- Magnetic Shield / Magnetic Inversion; (5)
*Optional: Supply Crate; (6)
So without the use of Supply Crate this build would have 4 blast finishers on 1 fire field + 3 extra might for triggering Enchance Performance resulting in 15 might stacks. Runes of Aristrocracy should make the might last a while longer.
Other ideas, toughts, advice are still welcome
Although I prefer to camp staff as an Ele, I assumed that Staff Ele only has the highest DPS in-game if there is a might-stacking Ele in the first place. But…I could be wrong. Please do tell me.
I don’t play Ele as a main though.
Hi there,
Iám a little surprised that no one has responded to this post yet, however Iám willing to help out.
Iám not sure warrior is the "best"at solo-ing every mob in the game however Warrior is a decent class to begin with. Being able to solo things depends on you as a player as well, not only your class. I for one can solo dungeons better as a guard, instead of Warrior.
Also, Iám not sure the Warrior is able to solo every mob in the game. I do think Warrior is able to provide a somewhat “easy-mode” feeling when solo-ing big bosses like the Gigantic Lupicus.
If you want some more help/advice in-game, feel free to add me to your friendslist and give me a pm.
Cheers!
6k is pretty low, though.
What he said
Yes, PVE in general and dungeons. I usualy avoid pvp and WvW.
FFS! Meta!
How can we have more meta builds for a same job?
Meta means the-MOST-effective-tactic-available…
So cannot be more than one.
So half of you are talking kitty.
(sorry for trolling but this “meta” kittenes me off)
The man has a point
I’ve never heard my guard actualy shout “Hold the line”. Whenever I use the skill he rather says “refreshing!” or “Armour up!”…
I want my "YOU SHALL NOT..PASS!
Iám duo-ing CM for the tokens right now with a guildie of mine (who needs the armour). Tbh, I think as long as condi-dmg will not get a good over-haul (pve) Direct damage will most likely surpass Condi-damage.
When the build is finished I will let you know how it works out in dungeons ect. Though I mostly play PVE and I do not play engi as my main character..
Thanx for all the info Elegy
I have seen the video of the DPS engineer, but I wanted to experiment with the new sinister stats. I already use the Sin/zerk setup at this moment. But since Iam a little stubborn, I intend to make a sinister build just for the the fun of it.
Some changes to my build will be Giver weps/ and runes of aristocracy.
I think that would be some better choices right?
Good day,
As the topic suggest I would like some taughts, advice, help on this build.
Note: I use the meta build often, but I wanted to use a zerker-non meta build
of my own that’s more of my playstyle.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Precision
I believe wiki has explained all you need to know to answer your question?
Good day OP,
if you are playing casualy (just for fun and not much time to spend hours on gaming) just play how you want, which can be full berserker as well
However, if you play like every day with organized groups I would recommend full berserker and use other defensive abilities like:
Blinds, blocks, reflects, protection, invulnerability ect…
BUT!
It’s your Guard, it’s all up to you mate.
I agree with Fashion Mage, although I find “Brace Yourself” a nice shout because of the actual aegis.
1 cocoa with cool whip for SongOfDestruction coming up.
also sad that it happend to you, this dungeon stealing is becoming a real sport.
Hi,
I just made a post about an engineer sinister build, however I asked some advice so I can improve it. I just started using it today for: pve, dungeons and solo content.
Iám still waiting for people to respond to my post and give me advice. I would gladly share my build with you, however Iam not a prefessional engineer player but still mastering the class. Let me know if you want a link to the build.
For know I just keep working on the build.
(Elixer S)
Where did our engi go and what weird mini pet is that??
Good day,
If you stopped by to read this post and help me out, then thank you in advance!
I recently decided that I wanted to use a different build for pve/dungeons and solo content with my Engi. I find the engi a diffucult class to master and have avoided using the class because I had to much trouble with it.
Now I created a build with the new “sinister” stats, besides that I also have a Assassin’s (gear) and Berserker (Trinkets) sets.
This is the build setup so far: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdMQJAqelUUpPr1ax8KseNCbBNq4A6Uch3+5DMgAA-TxSCwAs0Bw4BAwc9BVaBAYDACzPIV+1QJYO1fIYCyyJAAA-e
Note: the website does not include the actual sinnister stats yet, I used carrion as a substitue to see my actual power/condi stats. I calculated a 50-51% crit chance within this build, I will obviously have the base hp since I spended 0 points in vitality.
I would gladly have some advice regarding:
- food/buffs;
- Utilities;
- Traits;
- Weapons;
- Runes;
- Rotations: dps, might stacking, heal burst, stealth stacking ect;
Any advice would be much apreciated.
It seems like that people enjoy kicking dungeon sellers since last update
You could invite some friends/guildies as “fillers” and sell the spots 1 at a time. It may be time consuming (good thing the cocoa is ready) but it will prevent you to be emptyhanded if people have the intention of kicking you as a seller.
And sigh…I feel sorry that it happend to you.
Hi there,
I just read your post and I know how hard Arah can be if you don’t know what to do. A few weeks ago I helped a guildie who needed some Arah skins. Anyway, add me so we can plan a day to do some Arah paths. Far Shiverpeaks is my home server btw. Would you prefer using the chat log or teamspeak of some kind?
Though I hate to say it, I dont think there is much you can do to have these people change their bahavior, except reporting but even then it will leave us with the question if those reports will actually have any effect..
+1 for guild/friends only run
So how about 5 Berserker Ele’s: 4 with a LH conjurer build and 1 staff camping lava font spammer? Or would this be a huge dps loss?
Having a guard cleansing “All” conditions on the map is a lot of conditions.
Maybe a similar skill to your “Raise the death” skill would be Rebirth: revives 1 defeated (not downed) ally within range. I think that would be a nice extra elite skill for the guardian.
