There are many vinetooth events around AB. Prime requires doing the pylons to get it to spawn. Usually the people pushing the pylons will go for VP as well so it is generally unlikely to even get an attempt at soloing it.
I actually got to do another low-man run on it a couple of days ago. There was a small group of players doing Eastwatch events, and I popped up to help with the last one. When the Vinetooth Prime ran off into its cave, everyone just stood around without saying anything. I finally went with my party member and entered the cave, confident that as a thief I could teleport away from the insta-down attack it would lead off with, which I did. The other handful of players followed us in to fight, and once again even with just six people, it was an easy battle, we broke every bar after that first one.
Definitely a better fight with less people, as long as some of those people know how to use CC. Very much like the Wyvern Matriarch in VB, where when enough camps are lost that I can solo it, I can bring it down much faster than when there’s 40+ people who don’t know the fight mechanics.
Venom sharing basilisk is also useful although maybe not as useful anymore now that it got reduced to 1 strike.
Yes, that is HoT sadly. If you’ve already got your Ascended gear, you already have the best in the game, and there is nothing else in HoT worth farming for.
Well there are the new HoT stats but on the other hand anyone looking for a gear treadmill game is looking in the wrong place.
And if you’re looking for a FUN reason to grind, grind, grind away in HoT maps, the you’re looking in the wrong place too
That doesn’t exist anywhere. Fun and grind are polar opposites.
Pretty sure none of the new legendaries ever reached 4k. Except maybe C&C, I never checked the price for that because of how disappointing it looks.
I can’t remember the exact amount I had, but I started with enough money to buy a legendary off the TP, and wound up running out of money. Part of it was that I didn’t look at all the steps before hand and just started buying mats off the TP rather than making them myself. I thought I had way more than enough money and was horrified at the final cost. I’m sure you can make Astralia for relatively cheap if you gather 100% of the mats and time gated stuff yourself, however I wound up in the 3 or 4k range.
I had also sold off hundreds of mystic coins since I had planned on never making another legendary, that didn’t help…
The prices I am referring to is based on the tally from gw2bltc.com. That assumes buying everything buyable.

A subscription for those things is a slider that starts with “gets free stuff” and slides towards “overpaying for stuff” the longer you subscribe. That is a pretty terrible setup.
That is during the half hour break when no creatures spawn.
Which often last way more than half an hour.
At least 45minutes the last time I had to wait around.
At least this is now “fixable” now that Levvi’s Device correctly shows whether or not a creature has been killed on a particular map. It just takes someone to organize a big enough group.
Does it really?
All I see is a tiny red cloud that you have no chance of seeing unless you are fully zoomed in, that pops up for a millisecond and then vanishes.
Perhaps the Devs thought that players would enjoy a ‘clever’ new puzzle game where players have to decode and identify the information contained in the little red cloud?
There is an animal under each cloud. Standing on some sort of cliff edge and facing out is the ideal viewing location.
I killed it solo(ish) a time ago. I was bored and just spent like… 30 mins kiting and curing myself while sloooooooooowly taking away its life. It was… not very wise, and really inneficient.
From time to time, a few other players appeared and helped me for a few minutes, but nobody actually was interested in losing so much time, so I the end I was alone when I landed the last blow.
I don’t think you’re thinking of the same Vinetooth. Vinetooth Prime has a ten minute timer, as mentioned, but it also has an attack where it targets a single player, chases and downs them no matter how they defend, and needs to have its breakbar broken to avoid killing the downed player outright. If you’re fighting it alone, congratulations, you’re the target for that attack and will get downed.
It is possible for the downed player to escape the fatal attack using a downed teleport skill, which Mesmers do have access to, but that doesn’t help you pick yourself back up. Theoretically, you could also double-Signet of Humility with Continuum Split in the brief time you have before it downs you to break its bar. It’s far more likely, though, that you’re just thinking of another Vinetooth.
I HAVE to be wrong, then. I don’t remember it ever doing an attack that nasty. It was a Vinethoot, that I’m sure, and it WAS an infinite damage sponge, but clearly not this much evil.

The only one I’ve made is HOPE, one of the new ones. It didn’t need full world exploration, just all the HoT maps. On the other hand it required maxing out all the non-raid HoT masteries, doubles of some mats Gifts, and no chance at all to get the precursor by any means other than a mats and time intensive scavenger hunt. Plus 250 crystalline ingots … /shudders … at least now there are more sources of amalgamated gemstones including from completing HoT metas so you can farm those up without using up several years worth of orb gathering.
The old ones also now offer scavenger hunt methods of making a precursor rather than relying on RNG, albeit you can only do that once per legendary. You definitely feel you’ve “earned” your legendary after going through that.
I have a friend who’s made several legendaries and her comments indicate that she’s finding making Astralaria a bit more daunting than she did Bifrost. So I suppose the old ones remain a shade easier than the new.
The differences are mostly a matter of luck … I happened to show up at exactly the right time for a bunch of events for Astralaria so it wasn’t much of an issue but otherwise it could have been a whole lot of sitting around waiting for events to start.
More time consuming than the old ones and more expensive as well. I’d estimate I spent like 4000(ish??) crafting Astralia, plus dozens of hours of farming.

Well, the term CC is nothing new to anyone that has ever played about any MMO, ever, I guess, and knowing what’s a CC skill, dear God, I do hope some people actually still read their skillbar/know what their skills do before they just start bashing their keyboard to spam them.
We might think of that as “basic” knowledge but sadly that is far from the truth.
This goes back to the poor breakbar messaging for new players.
Remember when they added dodge trainers for new players?
Anet changed defiance to the breakbar mechanic with HoT, but didn’t update the learning/tutorial experience. Couple that with how easy to 1-80 game is, and with the fact thay’re enabling people to instant 80, and it’s no small wonder that people are walking in to GW2’s open world endgame with no clue how to actually play the game.
At the very least there should be a mandatory breakbar tutorial section in the first hoT mission, since prior to HoT breakbars exist, but since they’re just defiance replacements none of them are actually crucial to defeating the bosses and champs that have them.
I second this so badly. It seems the only way ‘new’ players, read, people that didn’t play the base game but joined on the HoT release, learn about the break bar mechanism is when people in smaller instances, where it is noticable if an individual isn’t pulling it’s weight CC-wise, gets cursed at for days because he’s not helping.
Usually only after that people realize, oh that blue bar thingy, I have to use CC to drain that before it’s actually handy to burst DPS at it. I personally returned to the game after a 1,5 year break, picked up HoT on the sale, but got used to the mechanic fairly rapidly due to, hey I see something new, let’s Google that. It is, however, poorly explained in-game actually and leads to a lot of instances wiping, open world events failing, when people do not actually know when/why they have to use their CC abilities.
That is assuming they even know what is a CC and then which of their skills counts as one …
Only 10 mins? it really felt like much, much more.
Are you sure it was the correct vinetooth?
There are plenty of things in the game which should be nerfed (imo), but I am not convinced Vinetooth is one of them. Or at least not until we reach a new expansion and HoT in general needs nerfing “if” the population in HoT isn’t as high as it has been.
The issue with Vinetooth simply is a lack of awareness and training in what is cc and how breakbars work. We have suggested this as dozens of different threads since HoT came out and I am a little surprised we haven’t seen something added yet.
If everyone equipped cc before the fight begins and uses the adrenal mushrooms (where mastery exists) to reset cc between breakbars, then it’s a smooth fight.
Actually there is a second issue with VT.
After it finishes doing it’s jumping thing it will take a short walk. If you try to CC while it is doing the walking in many cases the CC will miss.
- Moa/Devo
- Arcto/Shark
- break (yes, that’s no mistake)
- Wyvern (for 1 hour)
- break againI have yet to see moa or devourer up. It is always either break or a combination of the other 3. -_-
they dont spawn on every IP so u need to get in squad or get in a more populated IP. Its not going to spawn unless there are ppl killing trash mobs on that map. So the spawn spot will be diff too.
I mean the creatures displayed by the device.
Fewer people is actually better. Less chance of having people failing to CC and even if they do fail to do that it is probably less impactful if you brought a decent number of your own. People usually seem to fail to take advantage of the adrenal mushrooms as well.
They also don’t use the Exalted Assistance shrine tucked in the back corner. The more people that use it, the faster it appears and the stronger it is. Use your masteries, people!
I have never seen the Exalted do anything except stand around and be useless…

I am wondering if it is actually broken or if it is because each map has multiple spawn locations.
I’d like a realism overhaul. Add a few conditions to objects like burning but take away conditions from things that don’t make sense. Why is that fire elemental taking burning damage? How do I poison the undead when they are already walking bags of rotting flesh? Isn’t that Ice Elemental already chilled? How can a non-Asura be slowed when they are already…slow?
Most fire elementals are immune to burning already …

Standing around waiting for something to spawn is not what I would call “things to do”.
Why stand around when you can gather from nodes in the map while you wait? Or talk to your guild? I guess TT waits have made me somewhat immune to being bored while waiting for an event. I can usually find ways to keep myself occupied. Part of me wonders if why the spawn times are headed in this direction is because they want us to pace ourselves.
I just checked a couple of maps then stopped bothering. The MAIN reason for getting things out of the way ASAP is ANet’s tendency to break stuff then leave it broken for months or years.
Why should gold sellers use f2p accounts with all their restrictions on map chat, whisper chat, email trade, the trading post, and on what maps they can reach, when they can use bank or credit card fraud to buy accounts with no restrictions and stick ANet with the bill when the charges are reversed (and any fines from Anet’s financial insurance if ANet has too many reversed charges).
They undoubtedly do use some f2p accounts, but stolen paid for accounts are probably their first choice when they can get them.
Haven’t seen any gold seller spam on map chat in ages. Pretty much all through whispers.
They cannot whisper random people either though. It is full accounts that are doing the spamming.
Free accounts can send whispers. 1 new person every 30s and needs to be on the same map as the person they are sending the whisper.

I wouldn’t say fool, but nostalgic certainly. I think any older gamer can look back with fondness on all the stuff they pushed their way through. But, if we were given that same thing now we’d hate it.
Punishment in general has been removed as much as possible. In general encounters are kept at a <20min goal. And it’s not just ANet but every game I can think of that I’ve played past like 2010. Having short stints that can be failed without reprocussion just allows a more casual (note, actual definition of casual, not the gaming term to mean inexperienced player) playstyle.
Personally I love the change. Being locked into a 5 hour raid is something I just can’t/don’t want to do anymore. But, I can still look back with good memories of it.
Fondness? Hardly … “oh look stupid suicidal NPC got itself killed and everyone gets kicked out”
The total is irrelevant unless you also happen to give all your characters similar names.
is it really that difficult to remember which of your 3 or 4 characters have your crafting maxed out?
It was funny reading chat after 1 of the creatures died tonight. The same thing everytime, they pinged the mask and typed FINALLY!
It’s the first day! I got 4 of the creatures in 5 hours and if I’d gotten the 5th, I wouldn’t have retorted with “Finally”, because 5 hours isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things.
And I bet they’ll now complain they’re bored with nothing to do
Standing around waiting for something to spawn is not what I would call “things to do”.
just went through Verdant Brink, Dragon Stand, and then did Bloodstone Fern 3 times and got one Lilly. That’s with gathering boosters so sometimes I even got up to four uses out of one plant. Why the hell are these so kitten rare? Are any of the other four stat items even close to this hard to get?
Freshwater Pearls …
Is there a reason why these are so hard to get or are the drop rates just kittened and haven’t been changed.
I don’t think the drop rate of any of these things have changed. It’s just that some other things changed instead.
The HoT crafting materials can be separated into two groups.
Maguuma Burl 14s43c
Ebony Orb 19s78c
Agate Orb 14s97c
Moonstone Orb 13s63c
Black Diamond 22s15c
Flax Blossom 14s88c
Maguuma Lily 7g53s21c
Freshwater Pearl 7g94s95c
The first group comes can be obtained from airship cargo, exalted chests after a successful Tarir defense, crystallized caches and noxious pods while the second group is from gathering. Flax Blossoms would be at the same price as lily and pearls if not for the flax farm and an army of characters farming it daily.
The April patch made getting the keys much easier so the supply of those increased. The AB multiloot probably contributed greatly as well but even before the April patch Black Diamonds were only at most half the price of pearls and lilies. Viper is also probably more popular than either Trailblazer or Minstrel. If you consider that the prices are even crazier.
The other crazy thing is that the Auric Basin Hero’s Choice chest gives a Maguuma Burl but the VB and TD ones gives Barbed Thorns and Leaf Fossils. Those should have been Lilies and Pearls.
On the other hand the lilies and pearls have generated a decent size chunk of gold so I guess I am okay with the current situation …

Freshwater Pearls …
I have one single Maguuma Lily in my collection and I’ve been playing HoT since launch. Granted, I’m not nearly as hardcore as some players, not by a long shot, but something that’s just a crafting material (and one that you need potentially dozens of if you want to use it) has no business being that rare unless it makes something really awesome and impressive. Not an item that just makes a random stat combination of dozens.
I’ve pretty much go out of my way to gather any jungle plant I see. I didn’t start doing that from HoT launch but I’ve been doing it for at least a few months. I also play a lot and most of my play time is spent in HoT maps. You know how many lilies I’ve gotten? 12! -_-
meh … 99.99% of GW2 is about standing around waiting if you want to do a specific thing. It is only jump into the action if you don’t care about what it is that you are doing as long as it is something.
I disagree. I rather ANet put a crossbow skin for rifle.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to be a skin for a handgun? I mean, with the usual availability to dual-wield crossbows and stuff.
you mean the usual crossbows that can’t even kill a fly?
Was like that before the latest patch.
Did you try eating it?
Are you sure this isn’t simply a case of Soule music?
If I were designing new content I would make it available (in terms of access) to players. But, that’s just me.
It doesn’t even need to go that far. They should have just made the Eir memorial work like the Scarlet recap. It would be its own section in the story journal. The Rata Novus stuff would be the first step.
How are players going to help other players with a Lag issue?
The same way ANet will fix the internet’s infrastructure.
There is something about that color scheme that really irritates me other than that not much to say about these …
Keep in mind, as others point out, malicious companies who find they are blocked often just create new names, so containing them can be a bit of a case of “whack-a-mole.” Still, we do take this seriously, and we act on RMT spammers every day. With your help, we can do more!
I’ve got a huge blocklist of RMT spam-bots and I can safely say that you’ve banned them all.
However, while you say that they pick a new name, every single whisper I’ve had since 2012 has been for the SAME WEBSITE. It’s the one that rhymes with GvG Rank. You could have blocked that string of characters ages ago. It’ll cost a heck of a lot more for them to get a new domain name and update all their bots than for you to simply add their domain into your filters. Simply discard any whispers they send and put up a flag (or temporary ban after multiple discarded whispers) on their account. Don’t inform them they’ve used blocked words.
Then they’ll start to bypass the filter. Instead of Google.com, they’ll put G00gle.com. then just Google. Then G00gle. Then G00g1e. Then G o o g l e.
Filters will never be perfect.
The only way gold sellers will stop is if they run out of customers.
This has happened with the gold selling spammers in Path of Exile. The amusing thing is that it has gotten to the point where the spammers’ messages are so obscure that you would have to spend a bit of time to decipher what it says.
Well I guess if we can’t have pants …
If they do add shorts the complaint right after that will be the lack of sufficiently hairy legs.
The reason you had 48+ points is because you probably had all the achievements from LS2 done as well. For those who do not have LS2, they are at a huge disadvantage, 9 mastery points can be obtained from LS2 alone.
At least 4 of the mastery points are RNG bosses based in the Silverwastes. And another five are locked to Triple Trouble, one for each head and two for the meta achievement, these three bosses doesn’t get a lot of attention these days.
So for a new player it may be difficult to obtain these mastery points. Not everyone has played for all four years.
Actually the TT ones are some of the easier ones to obtain since several groups do organize runs of those each day. The more annoying ones would be the RNG reliant ones in Silverwastes. A bunch of the fractal ones are also extremely easy.
1) get LS2
2) complete LS2
3) you are now done with 16% of the mastery points required to max out all core masteries
Complete the personal story on 1 character and now you are almost 1/3rd done.
Right, you can be hurt by splash damage or direct damage that began before you were stealthed. This is how stealth has worked for as long as I can remember.
It’s more noticeable in BF because we glide so much and (seemingly) every Mantle and their brother and sister have long-range attacks. With a short-range attack, there’s a very short duration between the attack and being hit; with a super-long-range attack, such as we ‘enjoy’ in BF, the delay is really long — so it seems as if we are getting hit while reliably stealthed.
In other words, there’s no bug — instead, we the odd nuances of the old mechanic are simply a lot more noticeable.
(This doesn’t address whether ANet should or should not make a change — it’s not clear how easy it would be to maintain some counter to stealth without making it worthless against high density of foes with long-range attacks.)
That doesn’t address the other issues …
Last night when I was fighting a White Mantle Knight I noticed it threw a rock at someone else while in the middle of fighting me. So they will do this even when someone else has aggro. -_-
yes, no, maybe? The answer doesn’t have anything to do with the game though.
Whether or not a MMO is worth playing depends on whether or not you friends to play with.
It’s an annoying bug either way for players. The difference is: it might be preventable (same as the former bug of getting ahead of Rox/Braham was). (And of course, Anet should fix it sooner rather than later.)
Just ran into that bug today.
There are a bunch of items that simply can’t be linked for whatever reason. Can’t link from TP or with chatcodes.
Probably affects all leap skills. I’ve seen it happen very often with Heartseeker.
There is a tunnel that gives you access to the hunt. It might only be accessible after defeating Bloomhunger.
