Yeah, but that doesn’t discourage players from leaving if they see a losing match (that can actually be turned around). Something additional to that one loss needs to be done.
they need to set it up like dota where if you leave a match or dc you have 5 min to get back in or risk a penalty of low priority match que and lose out on the ability to gain rank glory and items

the way dota2 does it they give you a penalty of low match making so you get low priority on que and you also lose out on the ability of getting rank and items after matches maybe anet could introduce this method
You can`t 1V1 a really good Bunker player in a reasonable amount of time even with HgH. Fortunately players are bad and stand in grenade spam, dodge roll spam pointless stuff and then get hit by blowtorch.
I`ve seen Ostricheggs get outlasted and get knocked off node (and decapped) by 1 Ele (Zerrex/xerrex?whatever).

I played vs 5 Guards the other day (suffice to say we won that but not because i killed all dem guards so fast..) and the retaliation damage of just 1 nade throw is massive.

You should put ALL SPvP matters as top priority, because if you want GW2 to have a feature, you must do it. Otherwise it will die very soon. Everyone is saying that, because it is sooooo obvious.
I do not doubt you’re working, but you are working slow with wrong priorities. Wake up.Working on every PvP feature we want concurrently is obviously not feasible. Everything must have a different priority. Dueling is a feature that could happen anywhere in the game, and could be picked up by a team other than the sPvP team. As far as our team’s priorities go, dueling is certainly not above custom arenas, spectators, shout casting, split queues, etc. I know everyone may want a specific feature first like dueling, and it sucks we can’t please everybody at once, but that’s the priority we’re working with.
sry i understand that you guys try and get done what you can when you can with the amount of resources you have, but I’m not buying it, this is a symptom not the cause of slow development.
THE REAL ISSUE is you guys are not getting the support you need to make spvp more developed and fun due to your company lack of interest in pvp and its full focus on pve
the reason for this is because Anet finds pve more profitable so pvp will always get the back burner. that’s just business, if your pvp team ever wants the support it needs and deserves (and you guys really deserve it, its not fair honestly). then you must first find a way to make pvp more profitable and financially viable so that your company has more incentive to develop pvp and get content out. do this then worry about content and game modes.
and honestly in my opinion custom servers could make some money but i think there are much better ways of making money when marketing towards pvp.
like templates…. omg please sell templates already id buy those for each of my characters.
1) You can obviously have it without a healer.
2) Even games people consider to be DM have tons of secondary objectives (Quake 3, counter strike, Starcraft, etc.)
3) Objective based games tend to be both more total noob friendly AND more esport observer friendly as players/watchers can go/look at where the action will likely be.Jon

If you don’t like HGH engy play a immune to conditions under 25% with elixir S to turn conditions into boons.
Also when people ranged attack and AOE you, it only works when your defending a node, if your attacking a node it wont have any effect because they cant create distance or you just wait for the AOE to end.
This post seems like a whiny thread about people who play bunker or defend nodes and getting wooped doing so.

when your up against a team that has a Mesmer shattering on top of 3 dragon tooths and an engi getting 24 stacks of might and nearly one shotting people by stacking on them with grenades then something is seriously wrong here

You want to remove the only map that is not a complete no brainer designed for zerger teams from competitive pvp.
In other words the only map that requires a little bit of strategy and tactics should not be allowed to influence the ranking of players?
I do agree how ever that elementals using ride the lightning should drop the orb, just as other classes do when they try to make short cuts.

its not balanced due to orb because of how some ability’s work with orb that is basically a free orb capture this causes cheesy comps of people stacking certain builds and classes just to win

but Anet does not want to do that they say it takes the player out of there class

It is legitly overpowered at the skill cap. However, the skill floor and skill cap in an HgH build are extremely high, arguably the highest in the game.
It is the only build to have the hardest and most reliably used skill shot. There is no comparison to the punishment one experiences when you miss a grenade. It is the central aspect of the build and piggybacks on its ability to deal both physical and condition damage via might stacks. It’s also the only class in the game that is solely reactionary. Very, very rarely do engineers actually determine the outcome of a fight based upon their abilities and forcing their opponents to react to it. The engineer is the one reacting themselves by nature of the class and build.
The simple fact of the matter is that it IS a very strong build and DOES need to be nerfed, but people need to understand that it is not a d/d elementalist. There are not five players in the entire world who can land grenades reliably and effectively play HgH at a decent skill level in tourneys.
As far as how to nerf it? That’s another story. Personally I think that nerfs to on swap sigils and might duration runes are the best way to go. Nade kit is the only thing in the entire game that fully takes advantage of might both via physical damage and condi damage. The insane damage of grenades needs to stay just because of its nature as the hardest skill shot in the game, but the insane-er damage of grenades with massive amounts of might stacks needs to go.
Maybe reduce the effect of on-swap sigils on engineers and eles? We can make the best of them because of how we operate with our “swaps”. We only need one sigil to make it work.
Also, burning is the hardest hitting condi in the game and engis are the only class that has a viable condi build that can reliably take advantage of its power. Most other classes with access to burning do not have a wide variety of other conditions to cover it.
personally i think HGH engi is fine strong but not overpowered no reason to over think it or explain it people know. what makes them a problem in tpvp is the game mode we call conquest, it hard holding points with 2 HGH engis spamming grenades on point
recently lost to a team running 2 bunker guards and 2 HGH engis and a mesmer running repair kit on portal
cheesy and annoying but i wouldn’t say op we held our own
now where the real problem with engis does not come from the HGH build it comes from there overwhelming amount of useless utilities. why bring battering ram? when i get more cc using kits! turrents? pshhhhhh please.. too many skills not finding a place anywhere for the engi.

this is a cc build like the others above that is more focused on mobility and condi removal but you still cant solo with this build its an op group fight build so go out of your way to assist and find group fights.

i think it has more to do with the people who coordinate project management and the people who coordinate them (the higher ups and the investors) they may be more interested in doing certain aspects of the game more but are set on specific tasks
I’ve seen every state of the game J. sharp and his crew have my support to keep doing what there doing, i just wish they had more support. if i had a degree in game design I’d make there goals come quicker myself

You’re right when you talk about the fact that anet didn’t really give pvp a chance in gw2, but I’ll try to explain why.
Flashback to gw1, anet had two world championships and most of the internet thought that gw1 was pvp only. Mild hyperbole, but the point still stands that anet was proudly commenting on the fact that they were fighting that image of being a pvp only game during every interview. There were even rumors that anet had turned down a sponsorship from logitech to hold lan tournaments I think.
The rumors, true or not, don’t really matter. The point is that at some point they decided to stop being a pvp game, stop having world championships and exciting seasons, and establish an image as a pve game. We don’t have fiscal reports for each stage of the game’s life, but it’s not really relevant either.

Many people on the spvp forums like to state how they think all of Anet’s resources are being poured into pve because its player base is larger and more profitable, which is the main reason spvp has been so stagnate since release.
In my own opinion i do not believe this is true, i think it has more to do with Anet’s decision to support one more than the other at release and not give pvp the chance to become profitable or attempt to market more towards pvp players.
Anet: how do you know pvp will be profitable?
we don’t and cant until we can make some small marketing tests with the cash shop that focuses on pvp oriented items. Data! you guys should gather some info off the community and find what would sell the best for pvp.

-when you don’t give something a chance in the first place and let it collect dust yeah people are going to get bored and leave so there is no one to sell anything too i would highly recommend putting more content out there and make an event like the events you come out with for pve that give incentives to attract new and veteran players back to spvp. for example new skins that players can use pve and pvp, like the april 1st event, or sell gear for glory based off of rating.
my advice- there are plenty of F2P pvp games out there that make tons of money. Anet had a niche of one of the best mmo combat systems on the market.
and now its being focused on pre-scripted boss fights
personally why kill internet dragons when I can kill people who kill dragons.
pvp is just more engaging especially when fighting other human beings.
get more pvp content out there and start selling pvp specific items like templates and perma banners and other cool stuff and I’m fairly sure pvp would start raking it in.
in short the answer is not the pve player-base is bigger, its a question of why they did not give pvp more of a chance?
I ask anyone who post in this thread to give there opionion on what they think then come up with one idea that Anet could use for pvp in there cash shop.
1- game modes
2-orb in spirits has issues
3-class balance
4.better rewards that are based off your rating
5-and has Anet every thought of making spvp more profitable by marketing more towards pvp’ers like more skins/cosmetics or bringing Zaishen keys back or best of all selling templates! or community made content.

I think the best coarse of action for this is to make it so there are back routes or other ways to get to the side points or make the distance of the side points from orb longer
love the new map Anet it just needs a few tweaks keep up the good work

I think most if not all thier resources are on player retention now. PVE is not only larger but also more profitable. The gem store is thier golden goose and pvpers don’t bring in any money.
I think the e-sport thing is completely dead.
i believe that Anet is fully to blame for this though because they don’t target or market for pvp players that much to begin with
they could come up with tons of things to sell in the cash shop for mist players
like templets from guild wars one that are tied to your pvp locker

they should add a f2 ability, just a simple “mild” distance charge targeted or none

we can understand that they deliberty have some OP character from the start , in order the medium-low skilled players have a chance vs veterans players . And with no matchmaking from the start , the low skilled players will get rolfstomp by Pros all the time , but in the same time will motivate to get better and try more classes , and the meta would progress faster .But they didnt calculate the ppl can get emotional attachment with their character :P
I wished only for PvP all cds-resources are reduced to 20% , with reduced damage-healing , without effecting the PvE . More mortal combat combos and more fun for the victim too

there is merit in what you say but I have to disagree with that video on thieves and my reason why is if thieves are suppose to be the noobtubes off of cod then where does that leave the class as a whole in the long run.
because many players feel that in order to be competitive all you can play is noobtube (backstab or dagger/pistol) style builds.
also this sword is double edged you have to keep into account in how this might alienate other or new players from pvping because they do not like being the victim of getting jibbed in a matter of seconds

CC and plenty of defense- this build can land a 6+ sec stun chain and is given all the crit/damage it will ever need through stuns and imobilizes wich also make great gap closers.
switch out your healing surge for mending for more condi removal and your signet of rage for a war banner for more group utility, depending on enemy team composition ofcourse

Understand that this class lacks anyone giving out legit PvP guides, that’s why people think Warriors are bad. Saying “You should use FGJ in PvP” and then complain about how HB is hard to land because “I get CC’d when I try to land Frenzy HB so Warrior is under-powered and should be over-buffed” is just as silly as what I do to be honest.

nope necro is fine they are pretty balanced in my opinion they are strong in some situations and weak in others and this is while keeping player skill in mind.
balance to me is having your cake and not being able to eat it unlike
ele’s having there cake and eating all they want since there capable of too much in just about any situation
they really do need to do something to prevent future imbalances from gear creep i think they will get around it eventually but atm the devs said they are focusing on fixing class bugs above all else in the next few patches while slipping in some new content here and there like the new map were getting in spvp
but i think they said biggest focus down the road for world3 was introducing a ranking system and better rewards for incentives to play
using only an amulet kind of goes against what Anet wanted to achieve in world3 which is to introduce a pvp playing field with “some” gear dependency
making it feel more mixed with pve so you get a sense of building your character up.

I switch out the 8th skill for whatever enemy composition I’m fighting against so I use quickness or trip wire etc… sometimes.
hate it, love it, judge it I don’t mind I like to play these builds and the reason why is because Anet needs to make other thief builds more viable because I hate being pigeon holed into glass cannon builds to feel effective there never feels like any variety with the thief class.
I think as small as the pvp system is in the mists a solo que would be fine

Deathmatch mode in GW2 would be bad idea at its current state. The burst damage is simply way too high and there are no dedicated healers to counter the spike damage. Imagine if 3 enemy players attack on target and all of them have fast burst. They are using voice chat. The character is dead in less than 0.5 seconds. That is faster than human reaction time. Not even time to dodge roll!
I would argue this already happens in the current meta
Lower downed health a smidg say 10% or 15%. balance downed state ability’s nerf strong ones or just buff the weak ones, take a look at the rally system for what it is then ask is it too strong or just fine? should it be there at all? or just toned down. then pvp should be a bit better
