Everyone knows that the NPE was a very bad move on Anets part and they understand a lot of people are unhappy with it.
it was more of an effort to make the Chinese client of GW2 and the Western one more alike, though you will never hear them say that because it sounds bad for PR reasons.
NPE was presented as an improvement to the game, and in a way it was… it made it easier to streamline and manage both Chinese and Western clients on the development side, but before you start to picture that greedy business executive type in your head, this is not underhandedness or manipulation that is just good business practice under the guise of PR wordplay.
But I still disagree with NPE and what it is. It shows that the ones in charge are willing to degrade our experience of the game all for the sake of productivity and the bottom line. that they are willing to go ahead with these changes without seeking enough player feedback and I find it inconsiderate.
Anet says there looking for input on how to change NPE but I say get Rid of it.
P.S Anet if there has ever been a concern about that bottom line all you ever had to do this whole time was drop more skins, cosmetics and ascetics in the gem shop. (trust me I spent to much on dota 2)
I’m not so sure NPE was a “bad move”, so much as “badly calibrated”. There was a considerable problem with implementation, and some parts I just think could have been done better if they had thought about it or had another pass to polish.
As for dumping more cosmetics into the Gem Store? Please, no, no more. I personally would like more stuff added to the game to be discovered rather than RNG boxed.
this is true bad implementation could be part of it but I’m more interested in seeing what they are willing to do now, without dwelling too much on why it was done.
as for more cash shop stuff, I think that is purely subjective but more skins never hurt I like Decking out and critiquing my characters look. content for the game is a different subject but they both bring income.

People are just mad chris im a little upset by this feature pack as well but most know its not the end of the world. Cummunity irritation seems high But take it for what it is but dont take it to heart. personally i find one thing to be proud of is how passionate your players are about this game, i dont think people would get this mad if they didnt care. And keep in mind things from the feature patch can always be changable .
As Anet continues to back out of everything they pledged to make this game in the beginning, patch after patch such as this leveling change
Does it not start to seem like we are no longer the players or fans but just labeled as a mere consumer to them.
I feel that anet is putting there faith in numbers and statistics too much, like this unwanted leveling change.
What does everyone else think
That anet does not listen to feedback and knows whats best for us?
Or they have been doing a good job with changes in this game.
Sry but with anets current track record i would not be proud of this change. You guys need a better way of communicating player feedback internally and externally.
all i can recomend is reverting this leveling change. look past this team/company pride and listen more to your players the ones that complain the most and take the time to come here and post are probably your more dedicated players and fans.
Yes we need a cdi on guilds but mainly the new leveling changes

For a player who plays a bit of the pve and wvw i primarily focused on the spvp side of the game.
And with how things turned out for spvp i can say with disheart gw2 is no longer the game for me. im not mad or bitter at how spvp has turned out, i would say im mostly saddend, i feel that anet is squandering an amazing combat system And a game that could one day be seen in a real competive scene.
Yet it just seems as if Arena is just not willing or able to put the effort in obtaining a balanced competitive pvp game. I in no manner hate the game i rather enjoyed the pve and wvw but its not why i stick around, spvp was the make or break for me and just dont enjoy the the current balance and state of pvp, its not fun
Sadly i wont be coming back and my stuffz has been given to a good ingame friend
Later guild wars thanks for all the good times
As much as I enjoy Helseth, they would be nuts to have him on official channel
yeah Helseth the same guy who use to make all those rant of the week videos right?
he talked a lot about guild wars 2 pvp and what it needed to improve. guy was just speaking his mind and concerned about the game he felt passionately about.
and correct me if I’m wrong. everyone started to agree with his points and Anet did not like that. if you bad mouth Anets PR or Game than oh buddy look out, only this time people looked up to Helseth and started to get behind him. I’ll admit I did to he made very sound points in his you-tube channel. I wonder if he could not make it or if they told him he was not invited?
I would like to hear Helseth’s opinions again now that the patch is out because a lot balance is still atrocious.
Little anecdote:
A friend of mine got fired because he improved a system at his job that made things more efficientfor all people working under him, but then dared to mention implementing it it to a regional manager.
2 months late he was let go because “a worker shouldn’t have critisism about his work”
Progression and suggestions often come over as critisism to the people trying to hide their own incompetence. That’s company policy in advertisement for you..

now this thread just got interesting. you think maybe we have been going about it all wrong guys?
that glass door review was a good and thought provoking read
maybe this is the stuff we need to talk about and bring to light, not just the issues with spvp. pretty much attacking the very source of why spvp gets no development or attention.
sadly though this thread will be deleted due PR reasons and how deep it really cuts to the core issue. I would like to hear A-nets thoughts on this but will most likely never happen due to non-disclosures.
my advice though would be for the people who still really care about spvp, to never stop talking about this and the issues that glass door review brings up.
the penn is mightier you just need to be heard and the loudest.
i support this thread
i disagree with your post OP
i don’t believe the issue is the complex traits, there not really that complex, but rather the total ineptness of the balancing team
and this is mainly due to how the spvp community has had no 1v1 time with the team responsible for the skills and balance of the game, we have been communicating with the pvp team for the most part, the ones responsible for content and programming for the mists. and yes they do a bit of balance but only feed back that we give them that they occasionally shoot off to the balance team.
in my opinion I think a lot of balance issues can be solved by getting rid of all the passive damage traits, AI and screen clutter, also shaving down some ability’s that have been too strong in the current meta could go a long way to avoid power creep every patch and to simply tone down low risk high reward builds which currently dominate the meta
Let’s keep discussion about Ready Up to one thread. Merged similar topics.
I’ll start responding to posts in a few minutes.
josh I remember the first time seeing you in the state of the game streams and what you do for our small community is outstanding, you bring the voices of the people who play spvp to the people in charge of its design and direction.
but you have to understand as human beings we can be fairly calculative creatures. With all the automated responses and PR aside, SPVP has been in a bad place for over a year now and even you cannot deny that, so its no surprise if people are desperate for any information that will make the mists better. as it stands people are fairly concerned with balance and rightly so because the game is still plagued with apex classes (warrior) and poor mechanics (condi spam).
what I think players want most at the moment is some 1v1 time with the balance team.
also what character from star trek are you grouch?
That Spvp stream you guys had
Don’t bother
unless your going to cover more information about Spvp.
if that was a buddy buddy come hang out lets talk about things we already know ….that’s fine and I’m ok with that. But if I had known there would hardly be any Q&A tackled and no REAL issues covered or balance even mentioned, I would of never even bothered with watching the stream to begin with.
next time guys try to divide your subjects out into different streams rather than covering all bases. I would highly recommend having a stream with nothing but forum Q&A in mind, when the stream starts you guys explain who you are what you do and then just jump straight into the questions you and the community feel are the most important, reading one off after another. No filibusterer no reminiscing, just straight information.
the star trek meme was a good one though

-Screen clutter
-tiny asuran and human female models
-particle effects and AI clutter (petting zoo)
when will these things be fixed?
on mesmer i need to disagree with you, becouse shatter and stun/daze lockdown mesmer is stil available….you just need to put in more effort to play it very good
that is another thing that irks me real bad is the skill cap and the skill floor of certain classes in this game.
I think in no way, shape or form is it Ok for a Mesmer or any class to have to play that much harder to do what other classes can achieve with minimal effort and still be more viable and stronger for Tpvp.
THERE NEEDS TO BE A GREAT CULLING OF PASSIVE PLAY, CAST & FORGET ABILITY’S/TRAITS AND AI CLUTTER!
there are things too numerous, keeping me from enjoying spvp at the moment
while most of them are small things easy to look pass or being fixed in the future the things that still keep me from enjoying spvp are:
the intense screen clutter and particle effects that make it hard to see what is happening.
to many times I’ve missed an attack or failed to dodge because I simply could not see what was on my screen. it hurts players and it hurts spectator
and while the screen clutter doesn’t help things the tiny Asuran model size makes things worse, this is something that should have been fixed a long time ago, if it wasn’t evident that the players with small Asurans have an advantage over those who do not,
you’d think the PAX and MLG tourneys in the past would give Anet some indication.
If Anet is scared of the community griping and complaining over a normalization of the Asuran size, they need to deal with it, this is something that simply needs to be done.
my issues with warrior’s are subjective as is anything when discussing balance, they are simply far too tanky versus the amount of damage output they have, though the long bow is not as bad anymore I still see team matches stack and abuse it. I’m well aware the new patch has only been out so long but warriors are still low risk and high reward and possibly be over-represented due to this.
conditions- people on the sub-forum claim the condition meta is over, but I’m not worried about any meta, the simple fact that conditions are still far to numerous and too easily reapplied by some classes/builds needs addressing, it pigeonholes certain classes to play condition and forces other classes/builds to play around it, just to be able to survive and be viable (example Mesmer).
please agree or disagree but keep on subject and…… /discuss
(edited by Kline.9561)
But in no way do I see getting to 80 as “winning” the game.
good point and I agree
I only mention it because people will usually find anything to complain about, especially if players see that someone else has any kind of advantage over them, such as a credit/debit card, personally I don’t mind, I only wonder if this foreseeable complaint is justified as paying for an advantage or if it is possible to buy your way to 80 is that concept ok? does it sit well with the community?
tombs of knowledge that you will eventually be able to buy and give you one level per tomb might work and will be a nice addition to spvp.
but I think that EXP should be more integrated into Spvp and you should earn EXP as you play matches it should be gained when you complete pvp objectives capture points and kill players.
if you can buy tombs of knowledge with just glory and gold and eventually glory will be replaced with gold, it begs questions like: will it be possible for people to just buy there way to 80? or can they just buy there way to 80 with real money using gem conversions? is this concept Ok with Anet? will it upset other players who might think that this method feels like pay to win to them?
food for thought.
Well I’m glad that my topic has generated so much brainstorming and debate
but the major concern that I’m seeing from most players is:
will gold or any amount of money from losses make people want to afk and bot?
I think it will, simply because as it has been show in almost all mmo’s if you give players an inch they will take a mile.
personally I don’t think you should gain any amount of gold from a loss in any mode only wins (that could be a big incentive for people to want to play competitively, in it to win it i say) and if you do have to earn something from a loss make it something like a consolation such as mystic forge materials to make pvp gear slivers dust etc.
this is a team based game
I just hope that when the new reward system comes out that it has more incentives for you to play Team Que over Solo Que.
this could help form community’s small and big which I think would be healthier for spvp overall.
my major concern is Team Que wont motivate players enough if your able to get the same rewards from Solo Que, since Team Que does take more effort, requiring more people with lives and schedules to play against other organized teams with everyone most likely using VoiP program.
My suggestion is make specific or better rewards that can only be achieved through Team Que
The only thing i would fear is people running only bunkers to troll
35. Class specific skins. skins that cater to each class with there own unique theme for each class(like Gear changing style for the Elementalist every time he changes attunement) this way your selling more
skins rather than skins that are an armor type.
Also its been mentioned to death but a way pvp players can obtain these skins threw pvp and not just pve whether it be a glory to Gems conversion, etc..
2. Formatting Hot Join. to prepare new players for competitive formats such as tournaments. meaning that it’s time to set hot join maps at 5 vs 5 games, so as to not confuse and frustrate new players coming into tournaments from hot joins. 16 player matches are wildly different from 10 player matches, and if the community wants 16 player matches that is what custome arena is for.
no. just no.
8 vs 8 anet public servers must stay.
there are already 5 vs 5 and 8 vs 8 servers.
there is no need to remove 8 vs 8 servers.I’d love two different buttons though. Play Now 8v8, and Play Now 5v5.
And a huge open map with nothing but grass and a fence around the outside that allows for 30 people, to shut up all the gvg deathmatch people, lol!
34. I would enjoy a large map that is like a miniature WvW/GvG mode for SPvP that has you coordinating in small teams with it being 15v15 or 10v10, have the map be about quarter the size of one WvW map. it doesn’t have to be capture point it would be cool if you could play different game modes on the same map.
plus I think it would be interesting to see large scale fights with SPvP’s homogenized stats/gear.
I disagree with open field completely, I think there should be structures and line of sight, because an important part of pvp is positioning. maybe even put in siege weapons you could build with resources you can only get from killing players and completing objectives, or traps you could pick up and set.
it would be WvW/GvG only in an organized and structured environment. leaving out the unpredictability of WvW/Zergs and more aimed towards strategical play.
Edit: I i’m just now realizing what i proposed was rated battlegrounds from WoW

guys this thread is not for the discussion of Guild Wars 1 comparison to Guild Wars 2. It is for the sake of players giving feedback and ideas for quality of life, monetization and barrier of entry In spvp please keep this thread on topic and contribute ideas in an easy to read format
(edited by Kline.9561)
I understood what you meant when I first read the ticket selling thing, but yeah, that’s not something people are going to pay for.
Another thread reminded me of this one: allow custom arenas to host activities so guilds can organize stuff like keg brawl matches. I imagine that one won’t be like a smash hit home run in the monetization department, but people would use it.
i got the idea from dota 2 about the tickets
just thought tickets and compendiums would be a cool idea
for the long run of course if Spvp ever gets that big.
The selling tickets idea I don’t like, same for charges to watch streams.
i may have not been clear enough or detailed enough on this Subject i apologizes so allow me to reiterate
all streams are free to watch! big tournaments like mlg all those streams/replays are free to watch when there happening.
what i meant was to sell tickets that let players watch the BIG tournaments In-game in spectator mode and increase the spectator mode to accommodate a lot more people
Thanks guys and gals, some great suggestions and ideas in here, keep them coming!
Above all else, I think the most common thread we see feedback wise, and the view we share as well towards things we need to resolve for PvP is the game is so heavily separated from PvE/WvW that the core systems don’t incentive you to feel motivated to be interested in them.
i agree i think incentives are important, most people enjoy SPvP just for the solid game-play, but there are not enough things in the game that are really holding my attention, it’s like I put all this effort into getting good at spvp and I have nothing to show for it outside of the mists except /rank (which is being abused with skyhammer farming atm) i wanna show people the accomplishment and achievments in other areas in the game so that when people look at my character they go, Dang! he must be a really good pvp’er.
This goes for both MTX and rewards, and I think given how strongly gold is tied to being able to buy gems in Gw2, the two go even more hand in hand.
We really want to get to the heart of resolving the issue of making PvP feel rewarding, and tying those rewards back into the core of the game itself rather than as a totally separate game where it feels like you’re simply losing rewards/progress you could have made playing elsewhere. In doing this, a lot of the current MTX items available suddenly become more interesting and exciting as well.
I can think of two things that tackle that issue of not feeling rewarded and progressing.
32. as far as progression. this has been mentioned in a few threads but allowing players to level up there characters threw Spvp and those levels transferring over to PvE and WvW would be awesome. this will give freedom for players to choose how they want to level up and how they want to experience the game.
33. I mentioned this already but, a system that allows players to only purchase unique items with glory once they have achieved a certain rating, MMR, in game Achievement the rank system is not cutting it, it feels Far to grindy! and Rewards you have to work for are the best kind. these items need to transfer over to pve and wvw as skins or cosmetics to show the players progress in pvp, his badge, trophy and proof of accomplishment if you will.
We don’t want to lose the core of PvP balance wise where you can just jump in and play and be on equal footing stat/build wise, but just about every other aspect of where PvP and the rest of the game diverges are the areas we’re discussing as we look to fix reward systems, and general systems in PvP.
Feel free to continue to brainstorm and suggest in this vein as well, since this is in the long run where we are headed.
Rodger dodger.

Personally, templates are a big thing for me. I would happily toss gold at the gem store to get templates.
You represent what is wrong with this game’s direction.
Well tag me onto that list. Because i would also pay for templates too.
I mean we may be wrong for not feeling entitled to everything we like but then against some of us are crazy
I played gw1 so i understand where people would feel upset about me proposing to sell templates , they were truly an amazing quality of life feature.
but as it stands now wouldent mind paying for templates, If it ment we could get them in the game sooner.
But i think i can come up with a compramise.
Lets say you dont have to pay for templates, you get twoTemplates. For setting up your gear, traits and build. And if you want more than two build presets then they cost gems for exstra tabs.
So what would you like to see?
A "ready" button that appears before the match is created, and if someone doesn’t hit it within some time-window the match is aborted and both teams are returned to the queue? Perhaps the non-responding players kick out of the team, or kicked out of the entire queue?
One way would be to check your heartbeat every so often with a "are you still here" button, but that would be kind of annoying. It also doesn’t address the players who leave because they don’t like the team they are paired with.
We could just ramp up the dishonor system.
I know the team has their own thoughts on this, but I’d really like to see if someone here can come up with something awesome.
.
Improving the penalty on leavers, 4v5 matches suck. they really do and they waste everyone elses time.
the devs need to set it up to where quiters are sanctioned and penilized for a first time leave.
they need to be sent into a timed penalty state that sets them into a low priority que and keeps them from gaining rewards and MMR after matches. this penalty will stack in duration form repeated offenses
A Report System. as easy as right clicking on a players name and reporting them for different offensive subjects. this a I common system found in most MOBA games. repeated reports for bad behavior will cause a punishment to the reported player.
-offensive language gets you a time ban from using the chat system while in matches
-throwing the game on purpose will throw you in low priority, or just a time ban from being able to que.
4v5. if a match starts with not a full roster on both teams, the missing players are given a 5 minuet window of time to reconnect.
if the players do not reconnect with in that time frame the match ends with no affect to there MMR and they are automatically re-qued with hi-priority.
I have other ideas for spvp if you would like to read them and make comments

i would like express my opinion regarding this again since the last one seems to have gone unnoticed.
hot join maps already have 5 vs 5 and 8 vs 8 maps.
there is no need to remove 8 vs 8 public servers.
perhaps a big red “PLAY NOW (5 vs 5)” button would be better.
i repeat, you have no right to ask for the removal of the 8 vs 8 public servers that most casual spvp players enjoy.
Make 2 buttons? one for 8v8 casual and one
For 5v5 legit practise mode.i thought u want more people to play 5 vs 5?
one big button for 5 vs 5
the ones who wanna play 8 vs 8 can use the game browser.
but 2 buttons would not hurt.
i.e.Play Now (5 vs 5 Arena)
Play Now (8 vs 8 Casual)
I understood before I posted that making 8 vs 8 custom arena optional would probably upset some players. I just felt personally that 5v5 takes precedence and that’s the game type considered a competitive format So mainly new players should get a feel for it before they jump into 16 player matches. That if they choose to stick with casual 16 player matches later that would be okay.
though this would probably fix itself with a new rewards system giving players More incentives to play solo and team que
(edited by Kline.9561)
Also, as many of us have said, we want to give players enough variety such that they can change what they play from time to time, while also being sure that we don’t fracture the player-base by spreading players out to too many different game types.
I know this isn’t a super exhaustive answer, but just wanted to give you guys a quick update.
I have a question, who says that you have to split ques for different game types why can’t all the different game types be in the same team and solo qUe .kind of like battlegrounds from World of Warcraft. just come out with a veto system ifplayers don’t want to play that game type or map
I played World of Warcraft for 8 years let me know if you need any tips or advice coming into Guild Wars 2.
and elementalist is close to druid, but from a competitive standpoint they’re fairly lacking in the self sustainable department Due to conditions. alternatively though elementalist has one of the highest skill caps And can be very satisfying pulling of combos

31.weekend tournaments. Over the weekend host a multi team tournament that rewards gems And increased rewards/special loot to the top qualifying teams.
And that will be monetized how?
Otherwise we will rename this thread to “stuff we’d like to see in game”That’s what it’s been since first post, actually.
There were about 5 suggestions on “how to monetize” (get money from the player, for paid features) and about 25 suggestions on “how to improve the game so that it makes money someday”.
So yeah… Some “good” suggestions but really loads of bad ones and very few realistic explanations on how money can be made from these suggestions (“Simplez: let’s get sponsors/the NASA involved and there will be plenty of money to PvP!” – well just call them and ask then, you will see their response).
If i made a short post with an idea that may not seem like it could be made into legal tender my apologies But keep in mind, More people playing could be profit in itself. So if i list ideas to get more people playing or help newbies thats what they Are.if you want me to give more details i will

Anet could grab some sponsers if they decide to stream the turnaments, have some commercials in the stream. Now that i think about every week would be a bit much maybe once a month.not to mention it would give teams something to look forward to while Keeping people playing.

30. a smart phone application that allows me to talk to my friends when Im not in game so that i can stay up to date with pvp events and games would be really cool qol feature.
or even purchase cash shop items when I cant be in game for awhile
Agree with all except for the GvG. That needs to be in WvW. The armor/gear options are too basic in PvP. The beauty of GvG is all the slight variations on armor/gear/food choices. PvP is too dumbed down to do the game mode justice.
one of the issues with that it takes players away from the main wvw game
I mean it could be its own zone but that is still putting more stress and lag on the wvw servers
why does it need to be wvw? i think as long as there is a guild vs guild infrastructure it wouldn’t matter because players would be happy to just play it.
I felt it more suited to have its own map (or two) on custom arenas because then players and community could customize how they want gvg to play.
if the issue is you enjoy the aspect of pve gear in gvg. i would have to say thats fairly subjective, i personally would like to see it more organized with streamlined stats like in spvp

Why some of you keep suggesting gw2 pvp side to become free to play? I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like visiting some nasty site if you know what I mean – click my signature if you don’t.
because it could very well be the player base increase Anet needs for spvp. and a financial opportunity, that could later improve the state of spvp.
and I’m not sure what you mean by nasty site, if your implying the sense of community is going down hill in these forums do to more people using them, i would argue that its already pretty toxic.
So there would be absolutely 0 income from PvP players since they don’t even have to buy the game. hashtagworthit
have you been reading the post or did you just read the op?
Anet could monetize on tons of pvp oriented items to sell in the cash shop. while also advertising and selling the full client of the game to the free to play spvp players
being that the mists only free to play.

Dude, templates are virtually like public utilities, they’re there for the better good of all participants (in our case, current and future pvp playerbase), they form the base infrastructure to build upon and are meant to facilitate pvp in general, instead of serving as an extra source of cash. Holy kittens. Some proposals you made are ok, but the level of asinine in that one is out of the charts.
your free to express your own opinion, your free to disagree with mine I’m fine with a bit of criticism, but don’t bother with your overly emotional insults. personally I wouldn’t mind having free templates at all, it would be nice, I just thought if they were sold for gems it would make spvp more self sustainable.
Put a price tag on a feature such as templates and you virtuall succeeded in putting another nail in the coffin that is GW2 pvp.
Well, it’s kinda over and done with anyway, so I guess another one won’t matter ALL that much.
Might as well put a dollar entrance fee to the mists while at it.
now all of a sudden its Gw2 doom, gloom and defeat?
if you think the game is already six feet under why are you bothering with these forums? what happen to that opinion you just had strong feelings for?
I get it your frustrated a lot of people are right there with you, but try not to vent and maintain at least a bit of tact in this thread.
29. MOBA style game mode. The holloween pvp event was amazing anet should of taken that concept for gw2 and continue to build
Upon it for spvp
Kline, a lot of good ideas but they can’t be realized without solving the core question: being fun AND fast-access.
- Being fun means that after winning a match you MUST feel satisfied. If you are not, then the whole SPVP is useless since you are playing for satisfaction of overwhelming your opponent. This is the whole point of Player versus Player.
- With fast-access I mean what League of Legends did and what GW2 is lacking: a big red “PLAY” button that you press, choose the game mode and BAM! matchmaking and go.
No need to search for rooms in an unlimited list of 5v5, 8v8, private rooms, custom arenas and whatever there is. LoL has custom rooms too (they are free by the way) but if you want to simply play you just have to click a big red button.Until this game won’t solve this two problems, SPVP will just be a feature like Keg Brawl, Crab Toss, Aspect Arena or whatever.
I am well aware of the core issues with the game but the ideas I present are meant for the long run Investment. Your reply are issues that need tackled as well thank you for listing your ideas
If you come up with any other ideas that help spvp please list them
A good game company puts its vision before profits. It needs profits to survive, but after that its focus is on realizing its vision for a great game.
They did it with GW1. Different team now, so it might not hold, but one thing ANet is, is stubborn. I don’t see them doing anything but what their vision is, the real question is are the capable of reaching that vision, and is that vision good enough?
I agree
I see Anet as a very stubborn bunch (very evident from the issues discussed in the WvW section) that could only stand to gain from being more transparent and implementing some of the community’s ideas . I see this as a different Anet too, but everything is temporary and changes, I had great times with gw1 and nostalgia gets the better of me asking myself why they cant this and that since gw1 had it. but ultimately I think they need to focus on the Now issues, like the spammy meta and how it needs to die in a fire.
