I made sure to include our hobosacks in the pic.
I’ll try to draw something later but I don’t know how good It’ll come out with the bar already been set high. Thanks a lot >:/
Don’t beat yourself up, you can reach my level with practice.
Am I the only one that thinks it makes sense for an engineer to be wearing leathers?
The engineer class most closely resembles a mechanical engineer (with some chemical engineering thrown in)- works with tools and constructs things. Since jeans and overalls don’t exist in Tyria, leathers are the most practical clothing the engineer can get. Not to mention several monocle- like leather headgear skins to match the class
There should just be more leather armor with metal bits and bobs.
According to Anet’s metric and money, yes, to them.
War is teh best ranged class.
Ascended gear needs to be used in the recipe for creating precursors or legendaries for it to truly “bridge the gap”.
I’m quite sure the artist behind this is a woman. Why? Cos there is no way a male artist could have designed male faces like these. Apparently she likes feminine looking men. There are actually only 2 decent looking faces. The rest are total garbage. At least we have the clint eastwood face. This reflects the gw2 world tbh, where everyone is happy and smiling like an idiot all the time.

Except for the chick in the back, giving that sarcastic smile like “I hate all of you”.
just like they suck for Tequatl,
Rangers thrive on the turret/turret defense. You shouldn’t be smacking the dragon’s face. Not everybody is going to be a member of the DPS zerg.
Oh? So we’re regulated to turret kitten like necros or ‘finger duty’ because we’re not a real dps class huh?
That is bad design.
How? Not everybody can be good at everything. Get over it.
Um, that was Anet’s goal here.
Every class should be able to DPS in this game… lol.
The male human ones were awful.
Wish they gave more than 3 effeminate hair styles.
I mean, the long hair style looked like it’s been hair sprayed.. lol
Why would anyone ever buy this?
If I didnt have to go 30 into firearms for nades, I’d be OP.
Could make it 3 nades base, decrease dmg by like 15%.
Make the trait a T2 trait and merge the range boost with the 10% dmg on explosives trait.
Then add a new awesome T3 trait.
Yeah, giving retal a 1 second cooldown and buffing the dmg a bit would be better.
They should just make it so the pet is invuln/phased for 2 seconds every time the ranger dodges.
Then put a trait/minor trait in beastmastery to make the pet attacks feed endurance to the ranger far up.
I don’t think I’ve seen this idle XP mechanic anywhere, I must scour the interwebs now.
Anytime you kill mobs that give xp + BONUS XP that bonus is from them being idle/neglected.
For example, I was on my alt in Harathi killing centaurs that have been neglected at lvl 55.
Every single mob in the area was giving me 59 xp + 185 bonus xp, per kill.
After clearing them all it just went back to a normal 59-80 regular xp per kill when they were respawning.
It encourages killing mobs in places that get ignored, like underwater.
Having the same thing apply to events would be pretty amazing, if they could get an extra bonus of UP to 250% or something, if ignored for like an hour. More money/karma/xp up the wazoo.
Could either have an indicator on events to show how much idle bonus they’re getting, or have the mobs spawned in the event give the bonus XP equal to the event’s bonus so you could see which events are saturated and ready to be squeezed. =p
Can see me from a mile away.
We just need braces so someone can recreate Darla from Finding Nemo.
Bump for teh discussions.
Any additional ideas?
I may be a bit immature, but I thought this quote was hilarious.
Npc from Harpy Event in Ashford Plains.
“I’ve have enough harpies to last me the rest of my life.”
I can see by the screwed up risk/reward ratios in the game that they bank on their content to be played just because it’s “fun” waaaay too much.
That’s just bad game design. Especially when said content isn’t really that amazing.
No matter how fun or boring something is, they should always balance the risk/reward well, I don’t care what any hipster (I DON’T NEED REWARD IM BETTER THAN YOU SHEEP) say, you need to have the rewards balanced, for the sake of fun.
The new male hair is, odd.
It has anime style clipping with the eyes, incoming anime chars lol.
The 2nd one looks like I’ve been using too much hairy spray, watch out ladies.
Best advice I can give you.
Take, your, time. Seriously.
Also find a good friendly packed guild, makes the game last a lot longer.
Companies exist to make money. It’s not greedy for them to maximize their profits. They have to account to their stockholders if they do something that deliberately loses money. The gem store section of this company must feel that this approach gets them the most money so that’s what they are going to do. If you want a company to change you argue that another method is more profitable.
If this was the case why are all the other account bound items on the shop not soulbound?
I doubt Anet wants to bend us over and milk us THAT much…
The people who decide how much to charge for something and how it’s set up as account or soulbound are the marketing people, not the Devs. They go to college and that’s what they study. If they decide that some items will make more money as soul bound then that’s how they will sell it. And yes, they want to milk you that much. Their job, what they get paid for, is to bring in the maximum amount of money for the company. They get recognition and bonuses based on that. That’s how all companies operate. To think that a company, including ANet, is not going to maximize profits is not looking at it right.
They may be selling entertainment but they are selling. And they exist to make money.
Then they would make more money selling other things soulbound…. like the salvage kit.
But no, it’s account bound…. so.
It’s a severe flaw of most MMORPG’s today.
At least this game doesn’t have quest text. I’d rather read short stories online rather than quest text about why I have to kill 10 rabbits.
And the difference is…… ?
Here it’s like :
NPC : “Hey! Someone help! Bad things are attacking over there! Stop them!”
Oh ok, who are they and why are they doing that though?
NPC : “They’re bad people doing bad things and stuff! Stop them!”
Umm, ok.
Kills bad things
NPC : “Mmm I wish he would give me a quilt!”
What?
Atleast quest text (if you choose to read it) tells you nearly everything you need to know.
Most quest texts in most games are abyssal and they’re recycled as well. I need wolf pelts because I’m cold is pretty much all you need to know. What I need to know is why, if I’m out saving the world, do I have to set aside my heroic mission so this guy can stay warm. Can’t he go sheer a sheep or something?
Quest text is the excuse devs give you to go do something. Since you need hundreds of quests for a single game, there are precious few that make any difference at all. I almost always read every drop of text in every game I play, but playing Rift, by the time I was halfway to max level I stopped. The quests were the same from zone to zone, with almost nothing to distinguish them. Pick these flowers so I can cure this, kill this animal, so I can have this.
Not exactly mind warping stuff.
Honestly, it’s like you guys pull these examples out of Vanilla WoW or something.
Should just make #3 skill be a suicide bomb that does a CRAP load of dmg.
Then make #1 a decent attack.
Hell I think every class downed state should be that way.
Would be nice to have instanced versions of world bosses for guild missions that scale.

But I do get rares and exotics, particularly as your MF goes up. It’s not relevant to me that you personally like running dungeons as fast as humanly possible…but not everyone does and the use of trash mobs as a term, was coined to denote mobs that drop only trash, ie grays.
Calling every mob trash mob because you’re impatient doesn’t make them trash mobs.
Ok fine theyre not trash mobs because you got rares and exotics (citation please). However making them unskippable is forcing us to play the way devs want us to. The number 1 reason to skip trash mobs is to finish the path quickly. the number 2 reason is because pug groups suck and im not wasting my time dealing with people who cant pull mobs. So far they have seemed fine with skipping, even robert hrouda said it was fine and they understood it (although they canned him for his reasonable personality) however now they seem to be forcing their ways upon me. I want to skip to finish dungeons as fast as possible because even though i have gotten one or two rares off of trash mobs i dont care enough to try and kill every single one of them in dungeons for a chance at something worth what? 20s? Im sorry i like to finish content quickly go ahead and burn me at a stake.
also trash mob is not a trash mob because of its capacity to drop loot its also called trash for the time vs reward. If you go into arah and kill every trash mob you will waste so much time whereas you could have finished arah and done a couple other dungeons in that time. For example in a good group filled with people who want to finish quickly you can get arah done in 20-30 min tops and then you can go and finish every path of ac in the remaining 30 min and get nearly 10g. If you spend an hour doing arah by trying to kill every trash mob and probably wiping a couple of times and taking it slow because you like that you will only make 3g + maybe an exotic worth 1-2g.
i dont do dungeons for the gold or the loot but for the fun this is just experiences i have had and some explanation i gave evaluating the worth of trash mobs (and yes i have joined a run that said no skipping to see what it was like and left an hour into it because we had just reached lupi and it wasnt worth it).You really need a citation for something that well known. Any mob can drop pretty much anything. People have gotten precusors from the most ridiculous non-vet creatures. Being most of these “trash” mobs are veterans, are you seriously suggesting you need a citation to tell you you can get a yellow, exotic or precusor from a vet? Give me a break.
My guild blows through most of those mobs anyway. It’s the difference between the reward focused gamers (who probably don’t like this game that much) and people who actually enjoy content. I don’t personally mind killing trash mobs, I do get some nice drops from them, and it’s part of the game.
Why buy a game to skip most of it?
People who actually enjoy the content?
If you’ve killed the same worthless uninteresting mobs 500000000 times then of course you’re more inclined to just skip them if you can.
Not that I’m huge on skipping.
I was wondering more about what looks a lot like Charr heads on the wall- guess the tavern predates the treaty
Have you ever actually seen a Charr…. ?
I think the BL buff is boring, there should be a more interesting benefit for holding them.
This is like one of those kids that complain that people outnumbered them in a MOBA.
How is it not an exploit? The word exploit doesn’t have to equal “OMG BANHAMMER FOR YOU”, it’s just an exploit. Something that is clearly not supposed to happen, but you’ve found a weird loophole in the game mechanics.
You can’t really think this should be a feature of turrets… detonating them in mid air just to have them land and be able to detonate again? How on Earth do you think this is okay aside from the fact you’ve been abusing it for months? I mean heck when I read it I thought that was a cool little trick, but come on be honest. It makes no sense and you’re clearly just finding a way around what the mechanics are supposed to be.
This is just like what Static Shield used to be. You could use it, then use other skills while still blocking. Awesome, sure, but clearly not intended and eventually fixed.
When you say that you honestly don’t see anything wrong with this and you think it should stay… it ruins a lot of the credibility you had built up IMO. You’re actually arguing for them not to fix a bug because it’s convenient for you.
He thinks it’s ok because it’s what makes them viable…
If Anet wants to fix it, then fine, fix the turrets already… lol
I’ve become spoiled.
I tried to play WoW last month. I couldn’t stomach it. 5.2 content has been out since early March. Only thing that has changed was crappy ‘heroic’ scenarios that are kitten easy, and some daily quests in the Barrens.
GW2 has released 13 updates since then, compared to WoW’s 1 since March (had to look it up). Sure I may not be interested in everything that GW2 releases, but it’s still peaks my interest enough to log on an check everything out.
Oh, also I was a huge PvP-er in WoW. I tried queueing for a BG recently. After 9 minutes in queue, i just Alt+f4-ed. The game is no longer worth 15 dollars/month to me.
First off, I’m confused how you couldn’t stomach a few barrens quests or a bg queue (which btw will never take 9 mins if you are lvl 90.) but you can easily handle all the garbage LS content? Spam F 200 times? Do you not remember anything ANet has released? At least 10 x worse than WoW quests, and btw Blizz just let out a ton of new raid content and a new zone that will last a billion times longer than some temporary garbage in GW2.
WoW has already copied or already had every single GW2 feature(lol) so they aren’t unique anymore. Blizz is smart, they aren’t afraid to take a good idea and implement it. ANet on the other hand…. enjoy your zergzergzerg ‘living story’ more like living grind.
This game is terrible right now and it’s sad because it has the most potential out of any MMO out there.
you mean you can still do normal quests? not too long ago i went and tried Tera, all those lame kitten quest drove me away in less than an hour.
“LS garbage” looks like you dont like LS, for me it is fun and convenient
WoW can indeed copy as many features as they want, but at its core is still an old classic MMO, is that bad? not really, I know people that still love the classic style and can’t stand GW2’s style.
“this game is terrible” more like “I dont like this game and I shouldn’t be here”
This is either your honest opinion or you’re not looking at these objectively.
I would personally rather do old fashion quests over having to do any more hearts and boring DE’s to level my alt right now.
They’re really not that different, don’t pretend it’s that much better than old fashion quests… WoW quests especially have a ton of fun gimmicks and variety where as every Event is just : kill this same wave of generic mobs with the same 5 abilities over and over lol.
I’m sick of one, and haven’t had the other in a long time, so of course I’d rather pick WoW quests over this ATM, but that’s just because variety is good.
False. There’s a reasonable variety in DEs. There’s some where you collect objects, some where you kill things, some where you don’t kill things but rather, destroy an object. And if you go to WvW there’s quite a bit of variety there.
Lol…. there is no variety, there is like 5 different types of events TOPS in the entire game.
…5 is a variety..?
If a salad had five vegetables in it, would you not address it as a variety of vegetables?
Perhaps a small variety of vegetables.
But then you’re eating the same 5 vegetable salad, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, every day, every week, for a year, it gets old fast.
That then, is not variety.
I’ve become spoiled.

Give it shoulder rocket launcher too.
So what exactly do they offer that Mesmer Clones and Illusions dont offer? They do less damage, they dont move, they have MUCH longer cool downs. The only bonus they have is that they are killed quite easily by AoE but you can get around that quite easily
Mesmer clones don’t repeatedly immobilize targets every few seconds, they don’t burn targets every few seconds, they can’t create smoke fields and they can’t be used as combo finishers.
Also the highest burst damage I’ve seen for the Engi has come from the use of turrets.
Not to defend him or anything.. but.
Mesmer Phantasms do WAY more dmg and scale with all of your stats besides Vit.
All phantasms can be traited to provide constant aoe regen.
Duelist can be traited to have a 100% x8 projectile finisher every salvo (8 stack confusions on chaos fields).
Zerker can maintain high uptime cripple, and whirl finisher.
Warden is a whirl finisher and projectile eater/reflecter.
Also to the other poster above, Rocket Turrets normal attack has a massive radius, that turret is nice.
There needs to be a cap on it, or a timer of some sort, maybe. Otherwise it’ll become exploitable.
Well obviously, the idle xp bonus for monsters I believe has a cap, and isn’t exploitable.
Monsters have an idle XP bonus currently?
Yeah, that’s where the idea is from.
Not sure if chain skills on auto are a good solution. Either the damage on the last hit is “worth it”, in which case we have people sitting around just spamming auto most of the time, or the damage isn’t worth it, in which case we’re still in the situation where auto is just something you do to fill time. (thus it’s no great loss if you need to dodge and lose that last hit – how often can you dodge anyways? You’ll still get a chain off soon afterwards)
It is a good solution, it adds risk.
And if you have no cooldowns to use, you’re gonna auto even if the dmg is low… there’s nothing else to do.
On Engy again, could you consider making Elixir Gun’s #1 or #2 a 100% Projectile Finisher so we could make use of Super Elixir’s Light Field cleansing?
Or maybe consider making Blast Finisher in Light Fields do an aoe 1 condition cleanse instead of AoE retaliation? There is too much AoE Retaliation as it is.
and if “all pets get immunity to AOE” they will be broken in half in any pvp wvw scenario.
If I recall correctly, every single MLG team in the sPvP tourney was running a spirit ranger. “Mediocre at best.”
Come up with a better solution.
Nope they won’t because they are already weak. The last pet to be weakened were the Rangers.
This is exactly beside the point however, because this kind of thing has been done countless times in other games as the fixall for the heavy pet class system and it works! They know it’s a problem and you guys blew up the forums when they talked about nerfing AOEs well something has to be done and giving pets a 90% immunity to AOE damage across the board has been tested before.
But I predict mind you that instead of actually looking at the development history of these systems they’ll continue to delay this mechanism and continue to have cookie cutter non-pet heavy builds for at least another year before someone actually looks at it and says “hey you know what? why don’t we do this? it’s been done before” and poof it will be finally done but it will most likely be too late because people will have moved on to something else most likely having been tired of waiting on something so simple.
WoW has one of the most reputable/successful hunter/pet systems in MMO history, and to my knowledge, has never nerfed AOE for it.
What? I thought WoW was the first MMO I saw to give resistance to AoE dmg for pets…
There needs to be a cap on it, or a timer of some sort, maybe. Otherwise it’ll become exploitable.
Well obviously, the idle xp bonus for monsters I believe has a cap, and isn’t exploitable.
They should just boost the karma for DE’s, and let neglected DE’s store a higher amount.
My point was that there are so many variables, it’s probably not the gear that made you lose, even on the bleeding edge of competition.
You are right: statistically speaking, the odds are ascended was and will not be the only reason I lose fights. But it is now a contributing factor that wasn’t there before, and that will only grow with time.
The issue [people including myself] have, is not with ascended gear itself, but with the huge grind and time gated skills required to get the gear. It’s causing a rift in the community between the “haves”, “have-not”, those with a large amount of time, and those that don’t.
There’s an arena for those who don’t want to have the PvE mechanics affect their power, and that’s structured PvP.
I have very little sympathy for your justification against Ascended, which I enjoy having as a goal on the horizon.
The gear doesn’t gate game play, so the grind is for BIS. You don’t require BIS for any content the game offers, therefore there is no have and have-not dynamic at play here.
I’m ok with the small stat advantage, though personally I think they should’ve left the Weapon Dmg alone, that’s too big of a change.
Cool, I’m glad you guys agree. I hope Anet can pull this out, DE’s need some serious help.
This “GvG” clusterbleep here reminds me a lot of Dragon Nest 8v8 stuff. The game had great combat and on a small scale the fights are visible like 1v1, 2v2 etc. But every player has so many flashy abilities that when it’s an 8v8 it’s just a giant friggin mess.
Look here lol : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SQFPIL6sro
Just so you guys know:
There was a time in balance when #1 skills across the board were said to be “too ineffective” by many players to be used. So we made an effort to bump them up and make them more impact-full on the game, so that they didn’t feel like a waste of the #1 slot. There was also a time when most skills had higher recharges, and longer activation times/aftercasts.
Thanks for all the great ideas! We’re definitely listening.
I think it may be better to go half-way with regards to nerfing auto-attacks:
For those auto-attacks that currently do not have a chain skill, add a chain.
Currently many weapons, especially those that are used at range are extremely flat in design with regard to auto-attacks. With melee weapons, chain skills encourage risk reward by discouraging dodging while the chain is executed. Ranged weapons do not feature chain skills and so their safety at range is compounded by even safer auto-attacks.One way to change this is to make chain skills for ranged auto-attacks, to discourage dodging while the chain is executed.
- Then make the first and second skill in the chain useful, but only useful for poke.
- In this way, ranged weapons are on the same footing as melee, and some lackluster ranged weapons can even be given a boost to their capabilities given that there is now more risk involved.
- The third chain skill can be slow in execution but higher damage so that most capability is backloaded into the third strike to discourage dodging
Skills without chain as auto-attacks:
- Explosive Shot (nerfed into ground shortly after launch, this auto is only good to proc Incendiary Powder and is very shallow)
- Vital Shot
- Elementalist Dagger mainhand attacks (Elementalist Lightning Whip is strong without being OP, and this is the level to which other Attunement auto-attacks should strive, especially if given chain skills)
- Orb of Wrath
- Elementalist Scepter mainhand attacks (Most auto-attacks for this weapon are pretty weak which makes Scepter a burst weapon. I think only Arc Lightning and Stone Shards are relatively well designed.)
- Spatial Surge (This reverses the Risk-Reward by making a safe range more damaging . Not sure why.)
- Crossfire (Honestly one of the most boring skills in the game on the most boring weapon)
- Trick Shot
- Elementalist Staff auto-attacks (I hear there are some buffs coming to staff so I won’t comment too much; but Staff is once again, a very “flat” weapon.
- Wave of Wrath (Good for crit-procs on Sigils…otherwise boring)
- Winds of Chaos
- Necrotic Grasp (Kinda meh to be honest)
By changing these “flat” skills and adding chains, higher risk can be implemented and thus a split can be avoided between PVP and PVE.
- At the same time, being able to individually tune 3 chain skills allows for more granular balance
- Auto-attacks can then truly be “poke damage”, but can still hurt if the whole chain is allowed to execute.
This exactly, chain skills add risk to Auto attacks.
SAB isn’t temporary…it’s just not there all the time. The Flame and Frost dungeon that was temporary. SAB comes back periodically.
Now that’s truly comical … kind of like saying it isn’t night, it just isn’t day all the time. The word “temporary” comes from the Latin word “temporarius”, meaning “of seasonal character.” “Temporary” means EXACTLY that “it’s just not there all the time.”
You work very hard to do what you do on these forums, I’ll grant you that.
Nope, I disagree. Because there is TRULY temporary content and using the same language to describe SAB leaves people with a feeling that it will never be back. Some of the content, like the Molten Alliance dungeon was truly temporary. Christmas is annual, not temporary. You’ve never heard someone in your entire life saying well it’s Christmas, temporarily. That’s a silly thing to say. It’s Christmas now and next year it will be Christmas again.
The whole point of language is to communicate. Calling something temporary that’s coming back, when there are truly temporary things out there, is just confusing and unnecessary.
Just as easy to ask why SAB doesn’t stay in the game.
Christmas is temporary….. this is some kind of joke right? Cute.
I asked if you hear people calling it temporary. It’s a different question. I’ve never heard, in all my years of life, someone call Christmas temporary. We tend to use temporary things for things that end. He’s only going to be here temporarily doesn’t usually mean he’ll be back next week. Nuance, sometimes, is everything.
You have a very twisted definition of “temporary”.
Pets hands down need an immunity to AOE we’re talking summons, ranger spirits/pet, turrets or they will remain mediocre at best
