- Making Interrupts more viable
- New traits are fun and interesting
- More Support options
- More AoE options (and even more with Chrono)
- I might finally be able to cast off my centaur runes forever!

Overall I feel we’ve been spoiled, especially in comparison to some other classes.

They made it clear they were mixing up the skill types between the specialisations. So why not wait until the Necro specialisation is revealed to see what skill type we get instead of creating another doomsday thread.

Would the Mesmer be less unique if Thief got access to Glamours or Mantras?

With some previous traits being merged as one, this should help alleviate the need to use Master Traits in Grandmaster slots anyways. I’ll reserve further judgement until we actually see the planned changes.

and to protect themselves from the threat coming from the crystal desert, they built a wall… pointing north. oh-kaaay.

They built a gate sealing off the main pass to the desert. South Ebonhawke doesn’t need a wall, it’s protected by mountains.

“The Vanguard is being sent south, to the mouth of the Crystal Desert, where a dire threat is rising. They’re charged with building fortifications to protect against an enemy the king warns is coming.”

“This gate serves as a barrier against the Crystal Desert. Letting you through would be condemning you to death. Dark events have befallen the desert.”

correct me if i’m wrong, but gwen and kieran were sent to ebonhawke to protect it, they didn’t just grab a bunch of people and decided to found a city.

Ebonhawke was originally said to be a pre-existing city and Gwen and co were sent there to maintain the flow of supplies north, but they retconned it in the game to be an abandoned mining village (which is kind of boring).

well one doesn’t cancel the other out. the king needed supplies, he knew there was a mine area there, sent the ebon vanguard to reinstate the place.

at the end of the day, it still sounds like the place belongs to ascalonian nobility, not the two random soldiers that happened to be issued there.

No the King’s reasoning was retconned too, he sent them south due to some sort of mysterious threat emerging in the Crystal Desert. The Vanguard merely came across the abandoned town accidentally.

The previous backstory suggested that Ebonhawke was a surviving city that was supplying the north, which was more interesting to me.

Necromancer Origin

Either would suit really. Neither nation was more magically inclined than the other (unlike Orr). As for the theme of death, Ascalon had it’s catacombs, and Krytans had a strange funeral rite where they’d mummify their dead, tie them to the mast of a boat and send them out into the swamps. It doesn’t seem to be practiced in modern times but I thought it was pretty interesting.

Yes, Norn necromancers (and mesmers) tend to be followers of Raven, who is associated with death and trickery. The Raven Havroun is a necromancer.

Poison might be good, but I don’t feel it fits thematically with the mesmer. I’d rather see a balance made with the other conditions, than adding poison.

Chaos Storm already poisons. But really, all they have to do is remove vulnerability.

I’m just gonna try and have fun this week. But to clear up any misconceptions, GH’s community is not fussed about dominating a tier. We’ve been on a losing streak for several weeks now but most of us stuck together through the tough times. Yes, winning the last couple of weeks was nice, but it’s not the reason for us complaining now. I wish RoS all the best, but I would advise caution in the future. If these guilds do fully integrate with the server then you’ll be better off for it, if not then they risk harming your community. GH were in the exact same position as you not long ago.

Kryta - Too white washed?

in Lore

Posted by: Knox.8462

Knox.8462

I would argue that Kryta is decidedly whitewashed, myself. If Kryta was originally formed as a colony of Elona, the nucleus of the culture is going to be fairly dark skinned. Yes, the representation of most re-used models in GW1 look dark skinned, usually adorned with body paints.

Kryta predates it’s colonisation by Elona. It was first settled by Orrians, and Mazdak was the first king of Kryta. Remember at the time of King Doric the three kingdoms of Tyria were essentially one united kingdom under one ruler, and humanity had settled from Orr all the way up the coast towards Lion’s Arch (and Ascalon of course). So in reality, skin tones should have been more mixed in the first game (and the second).

The change in architecture marks the progression of time. Like the renaissance period, buildings in major towns have became larger and more opulent, while the rural areas retain the Old Krytan style. Modern Ascalonian architecture has also changed and now shares similarities with Krytan architecture.

Here’s more tidbits for you.

Distortion:
“By focusing the ether around my body, I can create a barrier. It is almost as though the air itself hardens, stopping arrows and deflecting blades.”
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Research_Journal

Glamours:
“Glamours are enchantments that manipulate the fabric of reality around mesmers. For example, Veil is a wall that bestows invisibility upon any ally that passes through it.”
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/mesmer/

Eric Flannum:
“For the record the GW1 Mesmer has never been just about illusions and messing with peoples minds. They have always had the ability to manipulate raw magical energy as embodied by the skill chaos storm. Arcane thievery is not the mesmer tricking someones mind but rather them manipulating magical energies. The same goes for some of their interrupts such as cry of frustration. This has always been the intent behind the mesmer.”

GS has aoe damage with cripple and a knock back. With the pistol equipped you have a 2 second daze that bounces which is better for small fights. The iWarden is easy to avoid, take 2 steps away from it. The only thing focus gives is swiftness, that’s it. You can better utilities with anything else.

Sorry, but I can’t take you seriously if you genuinely think focus is only useful for swiftness.

My opinion about mesmer weapons

Req for purchasable, alt skin for Mes skills

This won’t happen because:
- It’s extremely time and resource consuming to implement.
- Anet want all skills to be easily recognisable.
- It would look like rainbow vomit if everyone chose what their skills looked like.

Now instead of immediately thinking, pink butterflies=girly, I suggest you think about what they actually represent:

- Pink is historically more associated with boys than girls.
- Pink is typically used to represent psychic powers.
- Butterflies are associated with Chaos theory.
- Butterflies can fool predators with their wing patterns, real-life illusionists!

Scepter Opinion

Scepter is just such a snoozeville for me. Boring and incredibly slow projectile auto-attack that creates a useless clone (in comparison to other weapons). Boring block skill with awkward chain. Skill 3 is at least visually interesting, but the long channel is limiting.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Knox.8462

Knox.8462

I agree that Necros or Engi’s make sense. In the Necro’s case there’s already the underworld portal animations in-game that can be recycled.

As for a 25% speed boost, make it the Signet of Midnight passive. Its current passive is useless and a speed boost combined with the active AoE blind might make it desirable in melee situations.
