GoM here. Yesterday I jumped briefly into WvW. I was amazed by the turn-out! Anyone who says it’s not a numbers thing is kidding themselves. BP said the same thing a few weeks back when they started jumping ahead. AR said it last week when they jumped up. Both servers were made fun of because of thier niavety…

Just wanted to clear up your incorrect statement about Anvil Rock. We fully acknowledged that we had a numbers advantage. I’m sure if you take the time to read through the match-up thread you will see that plenty of us made it clear we won that mach due to numbers.

One of the biggest problems that BP faces is that is really hasn’t been vetted and suffer from the “smartest kid on the short bus” syndrome.

Lets look at how they got to be where they are today.

Tier 8.

They were able to beat Devona’s Rest and Kaineng. Beating up on the lowest Tier isn’t something to brag about.

Tier 7.

When it was challenging.

Rank 19 = Darkhaven, NSP, Yak’s, Emery Bay, Sorrows Furnace.
Rank 20 = Anvil Rock.

They consistently lost.

When things settled down , GoM joined Tier 7.

With a more even match-up they came into their own. Granted that GoM turned out to be a dying server but they at least made a fight out of it for 4 weeks.

So they beat GoM and Anvil Rock in Tier 7.

Tier 6

They beat a dead HoD server and it turns out a weak Sorrows Furnace server.

Next week it looks like they will have their first true test with both Dragonbrand and Darkhaven. Good luck and I’ll be the first to congratulate you if you prove to have equal success in the next tier.

I would like to point out a few things about Anvil Rock ( and I’m sure this applies to just about every server)

There are essentially two Wv3 groups.

The organized Wv3 alliance, comprised of guilds commanders and forum posters here who all coordinate and work (try to at least) together .

Then there are the puggers , fair weather Wv3 crowd and weekend players.

From day one the organized Wv3 AR players have made an effort to leave ET alone. I even posted a screenshot on Sat. morning of how ET had held their borderlands overnight.

The massive take over of the map we all saw this weekend was mostly the work of the the second group, puggers and weekend players.

AR isn’t so much going easy on them, more so than we just aren’t doing anything organized to stop them from taking back their BLs. Hopefully this makes for a much more interesting week for everyone involved.

Here is the thing, we have a Queue in GoM BL and we can’t take our garrison back. If you keep ignoring blue, we will have to chose if 1) we are ok with third place or 2) we will kill blue just so they cant get any points.

I don’t like either of these options…

It turns out fighting a fully upgraded garrison with Anvil Rock having no less than 3 commanders leading the defense is kind of tough. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear they had a queue too.

If it makes you feel better, we did take it.

you GOM and AR people should understand this, a lot of people in BP are a little depressed at how easily we have won. and all i have to say to these people is that we have had good practice, i can see a good opponent when i see one.

HoD has been dropping like a rock for 2 months.

SF has been pretty much the 4th Tier 7 server, as they have been stuck in that Tier for over a month. Of all the servers that have been to Tier 7, NSP, DH, YB, EB , SF. SF has been the only one to move up the least up the ranks.

I suspect they aren’t the same server that visited us weeks ago and are likely the least organized of the servers we have faced in the past. Personally I would have expected that they put up a better fight, but I guess it just goes to show how much our little rivalry has tested and matured our Wv3 forces .

The funny thing is, we used to be horrible. In the early days we had Ehmry Bay often and they destroyed us. Then we got settled in with AR and they dominated us initially too. For a while, the norm was to log into WvW and see where we were losing—because we were always losing.

This pissed everyone off, we had some good commanders together and they started to coordinate and recruit. Then we broke AR’s back and took over our bracket.

Hopefully we can be the same inspiration for SF (does HoD even play?)

I got aggravated because it seems that AR in general were completely ignoring the improvements BP made as a server, and thought it was just numbers. I knew the same thing would happen with you guys once I saw how much you were all improving. You were moving better, and not placing siege at strange places (the rams to take down a wall come to mind) arrow carts back a little more etc.

Numbers place a huge role, but so does the rest of it. I can’t wait to fight against you guys again. I hope we can all have a clean fight. If so I think everyone will have fun no matter what the rankings are.

It isn’t that we ignore how well you’ve improved. We all have, it wasn’t until GoM showed up in this bracket that both BP and AR had a chance to start to properly learn how to Wv3. To your credit , BP got your act together much faster than Anvil Rock. For that you deserve credit.

However your side, BP, fails to admit that the biggest factor in their ability to win was the increase in Wv3 participation. When you go from being able to field forces in 2 maps, to 3 maps, to then 4 maps, that takes both organization but also numbers. But for some reason,even mentioning numbers was like some awful insult.

Case in point. Anvil Rock is winning this match, because we can field more players on the field.

See, the world doesn’t end when you admit the obvious.

Could anyone actually give me any explanation on how the draws work? I’m sure going up against the same opoonents three times in a row IS NOT supposed to happen.

If your server was dominant in this tier it would move up. If it was getting stomped it would move down. You are facing the same servers because it is the most even match up available.

1- Show some class, no sense in beating on them .

2-Show some math skills, the less points we gain the better the chance we stay in this bracket and avoid getting sent up to Tier 6 and facing SF, which will just be a lame week of Wv3.

Actually, in all reality, if people would defend what they grab and not get over extended you only need your entire home borderland and half of EB to field the overall points tally to “win” WVW, plus holding SM. It may not seem like it, but if you go tally up the points from each of those holdings, it’ll show you in black and white, that’s what you need to do….or to control the equivalent.

In real game play, not your napkin math.

Once you are behind in points, your math breaks down. The team in the lead can turtle down to EB + homeland, while the teams behind need to overextend.

It’s isn’t always about the numbers tho,

over the course of a 7 day match.. yes its all about numbers.

There are 4 maps, if you can field more numbers to hold more objectives to gain more points you win.

Every once in a while the zerg gets out played. but over the course of a 7 day match it will win.

I will stress this again, the game mechanics don’t change for us in this tier.

There is a huge difference between repelling an attack and winning a fight. But I’m sure you knew that.

What you have to do is give an honest evaluation.

Given all the positive things that you have stated is going on with BP. If you did not have a numbers advantage over the two other servers, would you still be winning?

If everything else stayed the same and you had a less players than AR and GoM, would you win?

An honest answer is no, you would no.

You can’t act like the rules change in this tier, Numbers win in every other bracket,Except this one? Check every tier above and below us, the winning server can field more players than the other two.

The game mechanics don’t change for BP. Over the course of a 24 hour 7 day match, you can field more players. That wins the match.

If you guys really want to know what makes a difference with BP, I can tell you what I think it is.

1. Some of the commanders started recruiting people that were standing around doing dungeons. Then they encouraged people that were active in WvW to recruit their guild mates/friends that played to do the same.Suddenly BP has a huge surge in WvW players.

Time after time the huge numbers advantage gets glossed over. You should have stopped at the point where you admitted that BP had a surge in Wv3 participation. Everything else after that is moot.

Anyone who has been playing Wv3 since day 1 will tell you that numbers win plain and simple.

Time and time again we keep stating that BP had a significant increase in Wv3 participation and because of this they starting to consistently win more than they lost.

I’m all for chest thumping about how your server is winning and dominating, but to say its anything else but a numbers game is insulting to everyone.

c’mon man. Everyone knows that this is going to be a weird week in Wv3. Starts off with a hug PvE event and ends with a 2 day holiday. Nobody in Anvil Rock is chest thumping about the score. relax.

Just a note for those that are a little less informed on things.

This match up will continue for at least 1 more week, likely 2.

The most likely scenario.

This match continues for another two weeks.

Devona’s rest is gaining about 30-40 points a week on the 21st spot. It would require that Devona wins and AR keep coming in 3rd. With 189 points to make up, you are looking at another month at the current rate.

Borlis Pass has the same problem, they are 140 points behind the 18th spot while only making up about 40-50 points a week. That puts them out 3 weeks before they can even be close enough to move out of this tier.

The most likely outcome is that Eredon Terrace falls into our tier in 2-3 weeks. They have been losing real bad , 140 points each week. Now if things work out really well, they can drop down here next week, possibly in two depending on how they do in their new tier.

We also looking at HoD possibly dropping down here , however they seem to be a bit better off they ET is and may take a bit longer to drop to this tier.

Bottom line, we’re stuck with each other for at least this week and possibly another.

And until both those servers settle on a Tier , who wins these next 2 weeks wont’ matter much, except to determine who gets bumped up to the next tier.

@ Wispy. It’s been explained several times already. BP has a bunch fair weather fans, if they are in first place they show up, if BP isnt’ they dont show up.

@Helemar, BP and AR are simply playing smart. They are trying to keep GOM from running away with the score early like they did last week.

If you can get a big lead over the weekend, it can carry you over the week. This goes for all 3 realms and we know it.. This is going to be a slug fest all the way till Friday.

If our (Anvil Rock) 15 man team + golem in tow was able to break your will. Think what you’ll face in higher tiers? 40 man and 5 golems?

Sure you’ll be moving to a bigger server that will have more folks to defend, but so will the enemy.

Take a note from ANV , they moved to IoJ because they too were tired of doing all the prime time work only to have it washed away over night.

Look at them now, in teir 2 getting spanked.

Allow me to interrupt in the hug fest.

This has been another fun week of Wv3. The only difference from last week is there is no PvE event. This allowed our true Wv3 populations to emerge.

GoM as suspected has more folks , and as we all know population = success in Wv3. I mean really, is anyone surprised at the current score?

Lets be honest with each other. Both BP and AR do not have the population to flex their muscle in all 4 maps. We can be competitive in our respective borderlands and EB.

In order for us to push GoM on their home turf we leave one of those two exposed. GoM can put out a good fight in two zones and has enough extra bodies to pressure a 3rd zone and this is all reflected in the score. In my opinion this is what makes it fun, none of the 3 servers can lock out all 4 maps.

AR and BP will continue to nip at each others heals, its just the way it is down here in Tier 6 and its part of our charm.

My advice, enjoy it while it last, there is a good chance that both HoD and ET will make it down here in 3 weeks and likely push 2 of us out of this Tier.

There clearly seems to be a BP-AR rivalry going on. I think it’s hurting the matchup. The truth is GoM (my server) isn’t at tier 6 level right now. If we make it there next week we’ll get crushed and come back to tier 7 with our tail between our legs. You guys REALLY don’t want SF down here because they ARE a tier 6 server, and that will not be a fun week.

Truth be told, GoM is just visiting Tier 6. BP and AR have been at it since day 1

Stick around for a month and we’ll grow to hate you too.
