Guys, i have a question.
Do dead people (not in down state) scale up events ? Is there some kind of ‘inactive’ timer that make them don’t count in the event ? Especially @ Vinewrath. My guess is YES, but i just had an argument with someone saying they don’t count after 20 seconds in the scaling.
I know, nothing to do with dungeon stuff but… People are kind of annoying with this, and if someone have a clear test to show it… Well, you get it.
And btw, each class have to change BUILD (not gear, i’m talking about traits and skills) several times in a dungeon if they really want to be effective against the different situations and encounters.
I can see swapping skills, but constantly swapping traits as well just sounds tedious. I like at least a little permanence to my builds. This is actually a downfall to not having well-defined roles to me. Your mileage may vary.
Like it or not, that’s actually how you can achieve the best time for dungeons runs. I don’t do it every run thought, depends if i want to train or not. But, actually, you can complete every content in this game with one single build if you want. Or switch. You have the choice, so telling there is no diversity is wrong since everything about this game and the meta is a matter of choices
Oh and finally, about the mesmer thing :
Actually, the REAL speed runners use mesmers.
And btw, each class have to change BUILD (not gear, i’m talking about traits and skills) several times in a dungeon if they really want to be effective against the different situations and encounters.
(edited by Kordash.2197)
One : Berserker is not a build, it’s a gear stat.
Two : The meta is actually “How do i support my party in the best possible way without losing DPS ?”
Three : Challenging dungeons with unique rewards, i’m all for it.
Point one and two were the reason why i told you to inform yourself. If you are intersted by supporting, try to play guardian, great combination of blocks, reflects, and blind, that are the core of the support in this game. If you are looking to be healer, you can, but you won’t be effective for your party. And that’s not the game where you have dedicated healer, the core design is to avoid that. Period.
I’ll give my 2 cents, as the co-leader of a small guild that exist since gw1, more or less 9 years. It started very small, 5-6 players. Actually, we are about 15-20 logged every day, 134 people in the guild (but half not logged in for more than a month), so yeah, it’s basically a small guild. Our core philosophy is “Your real life above all”, meaning we do not kick someone that is not very active, and if this happens (4-5 months without activity) we invite them back when they come back.
Yet, we had everything unlocked by influence points very quickly, every guild content was quick to obtain, and we had no problem to complete that content. Yet, we are not hardcore players (except myself for short periods), and we didn’t pay a load of gold to get our missions.
From my experience (and that’s experience, and my opinion, feel free to disagree), saying that the game is actually killing the small guilds is wrong. Same for saying that’s unfair that corporation guilds can unlock things faster. “Together we’re stronger” that’s how the world works. And you can actually follow up pretty good if you do it right, i’ts possible, we did it ourselves (and we are far from the bests players).
Same goes for the multi-guild system. They say in the article that it’s part of the problem. Yeah, sure, some play with other guilds sometimes, we have that in our guild since we do not force the representation of our members. We’re more PvE/PvP oriented, and some actually want to do WvW and play PvE with us. We don’t see them very often, but they are here, from time to time, and it works great !
No, what is really killing the small guilds IMO : the guild leaders.
Far to often, i’ve seen guild leaders that doesn’t understand that running a guild is not something that goes on it’s own even for small guilds. You have to
- keep people in, organising events,
- keep having a good income of players (recruiting, in game or not) because you will ALWAYS have people leaving for something else, even the most dedicated
- Ensure that everyone can fullfill their objectives within the guild
- Ensure that everyone keep having fun whith the rest of the guild, that the social problems are quickly solved…
It requires time and dedication. And that’s something that is far too often forgotten, always leading to the death of the guild.
EDIT: Basically, what rapthorne.7345 said !

“Give us some old WoW grinding”
No. It’s not WoW. It’s GW2. I strongly encourage you to get yourself informed about the meta in PvE, and why we play it like this.
Also, BINGO
If you are new, you may want to find a guild in here.
https://forum-fr.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/PvE-Interseveur-McM-Vizunah-HdK-1
It’s ours, we welcome every kind of players without any obligations, and we are happy to teach the game to newcomers.
Also, you may want to have a look at ranger, or elementalist. If you wanna know mord about builds in dungeons/fractals, go for the DnT forum, and check http://gw2dungeons.net/
See you in game !
A reset of all downscaled paths seems good to me.
Why is my feedback always like this?
And btw, noticed like 7-8 fails in the Aetherpath guide on gw2dungeons.net. Will probably make a list later.
People must hate you so much :P
BTW, check Mai Trin comment’s section ! I gave you some feedback on the stealth part
(edited by Kordash.2197)
Then you may want to reconsider advising people to improve their character flaws while saying yours are okay
Anyway, there’s another 75% off sale coming up \o/ I think I might as well get a second account so I can play the TP and run dungeons at the same time. I missed out last time…
Also, time to make some investments. Gonna be a lot of new players coming in!

By the way guys, i would like to ask you a question.
I’ve got kicked last week at the third fractal. It was cliffside, and i was kicked right after we failed (for the first time) the two top seals.
A bit of input before my question:
- It was a fractal 50 full zerker + gear check + experienced (Was on Warrior Phalanx, full zerk, 80 AR, just got one kittenty sigil (fire) on my GS at that moment but after talking with them they said it doesn’t really matter, and being experienced)
- Apparently, two of them were buddys (probably created the group)
- One Engineer was soft trolling several times (it was a pick up that i didn’t know)
1) We rolled Swamp, 2 wipes on Bloomhunger, i was the last standing melee each time.
2) We then rolled Snowblind, the two buddys got downed several times on the last boss, and i did make a mistake once when he was around 30%, getting one of them up when i shouldn’t have, resulting in him standing up and me dying (downed state just before ice falls anyone ?)
3) We then roll Cliffside, everything goes fine till the top seals, where things start to be a bit messy. But we manage to break a seal, the second need one last hit. Then the Engi proceed to leave the hammer at the seal instead of bringing it back (apparently intentional trolling). So i’m moving to take it, go back to the stack, charge up, and go try to unload the charge on the seal. But being a bit low life after taking the hammer back from where the Engi put it, i end up dead right before the hit land, this leading to a wipe. I then see the Engi being kicked while i’m making my way back to the seals then poof ! Back to Lion’s Arch.
I can understand i wasn’t performing the best of my best and made some mistakes, but still doing okay.
Now, my question is : In your opinion, did i deserve this kittening kick ?
http://gw2dungeons.net/ is your answer
Berserker is the optimal gear to go in thoses aswell (if you’re looking for fast runs).
Also, to learn in a fun and good way, try too join [Noob] mentor guild aswell.
We might do an ac p1p2p3 speedrun soon, you’ll then be able to see how it works.
Just dont post it on reddit or it might get fixed before I get the chance to play it xD
Unlikely. They are focusing on HoT! And dungeons dont ever get fixed remember!
Do not underestimate Anet’s stealth fixing power. It happened before, and will happen again
Yeah… fixing.
I’ll give you that : breaking. Or is it “intended unintended fix” ?

Second I must find all gradients for do a piece of armor or buy it (that’s for me impossible because i do usually pvp).
There is your problem. If you want to get to fractals 50, dedicate a part of your game time to reach it. If you’re not willing to make the effort, that’s YOUR problem. Not the game’s problem.
And i would point out that this particular content is aimed at dedicated people.
^ This !
/15 kitteningchars
Okay, since you are completly uninformed : Agony Resistance is tied to fractals from this day to the end of the days.
In other words, this is a mechanic that was created only for this content. If you want to do this particular content, deal with it. There is no risk to see this mechanic in another kind of content (Either PvE/PvP/WvW/Dungeons…)
HAHAHAHA.
You can’t be serious. 9/10 if trolling.
Not trolling ? Okay let me put it simply : if you don’t want to make the effort to get what’s required to do something, you don’t deserve to do it. Plain and simple.

Yet again, you are asking for a system with roles, that the game design want to avoid. It’s in the core.
It’s impossible to get roles here. Asking for it is pointless.
Except the core of this expansion is creating new roles for each profession. An MMO without even a small element of roles is worthless as a game.
Remember what MMORPG stands for? Massively Multiplayer Online ROLE PLAYING game.
You don’t know that. No proofs. Speculations only here. I don’t know what it will really be, i look forward to it.
Role Playing have nothing to do with the gameplay of the game.

You don’t seem to understand : Zerker is mandatory ONLY IF you want optimal time. Don’t care about that ? Fine, you can play whatever you want.

You don’t want variety, you want your idea to be required. Not quite the same thing.
And i’ll repeat myself again : Meta = Optimal, and Optimal mean ONLY ONE. Everything else is VIABLE. And that’s fine. And you can’t change that. It’s not something humans can change (maybe in a thousand years ?)
Variety is already here and it’s up to you to use it. You want to be the fastest possible, without doing what’s required to do so. A bit of a paradox to say the least ?

So regardless of what you all say about role-taking being bad or ‘oh noes we can’t have da trinity’ – too late because that’s what Anet are leaning towards with this expansion.
I disagree. From what I’ve gathered it looks like they are just filling in holes that were left from when they originally designed the classes. It looks like this Staff Druid is going to fill the missing AOE/CC that was missing from Rangers. Hammer Engie looks like it’s going to fill the missing melee weapon from it. I’d say Anet is just making all classes more rounded by adding the Specializations… And, if you ask me, Specializations look like they’re aimed at WvW or PVP rather than PVE, but no way to be sure until all the details are out.
But… Guess what… If the goal of the pve event/instance is to kill something… well… DPS is still going to be King. Suck it up. Grow a pair. GET TO KILLING STUFF AS FAST AS POSSIBLE!!
“Learn to like my gameplay style and only that style, otherwise kitten off”
Nice.
The same apply to you.

May I just direct everyone towards the fact that Anet are creating SPECIALISATIONS with HoT??
That in itself says they recognise the fact that there needs to be disparity between professions and role-taking in the game for it to be fun to play. So regardless of what you all say about role-taking being bad or ‘oh noes we can’t have da trinity’ – too late because that’s what Anet are leaning towards with this expansion.
Absolutely zero trinity will never happen in any MMO. The linear gameplay that GW2 has right now with its PvE set-up advocating a single meta is BORING. Plain and bloody simple. There’s no meta diversity, no variation and no tactical thought. Just mindless zergs of #MaxZerkOmg players running around seeing who can do the most damage.
YOU find this boring. Please don’t assume we are all like you.
“Absolutely zero trinity will never happen in any MMO” EvE and GW2, just the 2 coming out of my mind.
“no tactical thought” If so, why don’t you show us a record run of any dungeon path of your own ? Should be easy if it’s so mindless…
And about specialisations… Well, they call it this way to have new options for a class, but what does it changes ? Too early to say it’s going to add ROLES. But my guess is it won’t. You can only guess, so whatever you’ll say about this point is just wind, until we REALLY know what is it.

Arenanet should get rid of certain worthless stats. And just focus on power, precision, ferocity, cond, vita and toughness.
They will have to come with clever boss design and balance this encounter super carefuly to be doable with every composition (5x full zerker,5x full support or mix of both )
In conclusion, so far they have shown to be lazy to deal with something like that. So no… more punching bags with no need for support builds.
Why don’t you give an example on how you would do it.
If the game is about killing stuff, would the stats the favor killing stuff faster be viable if you have the skill?
Unless you change all the fights to involve not killing stuff support stats are worthless. This is true even with games that have the Trinity, the bulk of the damage is done by DPs classes with support being spam bots.
In response – a couple of different scenario examples.
A single boss fight that hits hard in AoEs, puts out more CC, puts out more condition damage (compared with single boss fights we have currently in the game). DPS players will go down quicker than popped balloons without adequate stability, regen, vigor, protection, heals etc. In this scenario, no support-optimised players = dead DPS players = no dead boss.
A boss fight in which there are many, smaller enemies attacking your team. This creates a greater risk of enemies attacking/CCing you individually and therefore a greater need for support. Because players who have spec’d for full zerk would have insufficient means to look after themselves (apart from warriors, who can do friggin everything with a pure zerk build anyway -.-), they’d rely more heavily on players dishing out the support.
Ok and since this is play how you want now explain how full zerk only player teams will be able to finish this content to please
That’s exactly what I’ve said I’m hoping will change in HoT.
I’ll say it AGAIN : you want the game to REQUIRE your idea of support as a role.
The whole game is designed to avoid that. Asking for that is completly pointless, and it’s not going to happen (unless you want to destroy what made the success of the game and it’s interest).
And btw, the whole meta is about bringing enough support to stay alive.
“(apart from warriors, who can do friggin everything with a pure zerk build anyway -.-)”
Wrong. Every class can do so.

The supporting style and interaction with each other is actually the CORE of the Zerker Meta.
People fail to see that, only because of the stat combo. If they did the theory crafting behind it, they would see that the main question is “how do we prevent getting downed all together by interacting with each other at the minimal cost in term of DPS loss ?”
The support is already fine in the game, within this current game design.

You are asking for the game to REQUIRE a role. Wich is it designed to avoid that all together. It’s as simple as it is.
I would like more challenging content. I would love it. But i don’t want it REQUIRE a party composition, with roles, like in a lot of other games. If i wanted that i would play those (great) games again. ArenaNet already showed us it’s possible.

Basically asking for a trinity. Nope.
encounters and builds can be conceived that work with within the framework of a distinctive role structure – support, healing, control, or even tanking. Meta could be allowed to develop around these roles rather than just around the current single pure, direct DPS role.
This exactly right there is your problem. I’m sorry to break it to you OP but if you think zerker meta pve doesn’t involve massive amounts of control skills you’ve been carried hard. The problem is not that everyone just deals damage, the problem is that you can do all the support the party needs in damage gear. Playing any but the easiest dungeons without blinds, reflects, stealth, blocks ect in full zerker would be quite difficult, it’s not though because people actually push their buttons.
Seriously OP, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRgZYr-yIxs (and then the video of whatever class it is you play) and tell me “the zerk meta” is nothing but 5 people button mash-dpsing their way through dungeons.
Yeah, I get that. My point is that it isn’t a very good design. When you can achieve optimal DPS without sacrificing much of the utility needed to be successful, and when you build around support/control/utility and sacrifice huge amounts of DPS for it, it’s a design problem.
My point is that you don’t like the core design choices for this game and want to change it.
Not going to happen.
I don’t think it was a design choice. I think it was a design oversight. They wanted to avoid a hard trinity, which is great – I’m all for it. But they also want build diversity and content that benefits from a variety of strategic approaches.
I refuse to believe that one build to rule them all was their design choice.
I can’t believe how confounded everyone is on this topic. It’s like none of you are really thinking clearly.
One build to rule them all ? Each class have at least 2 meta builds ! (exept Necro, this poor fellah HoT greatswords will change that)
(edited by Kordash.2197)
And by the way, we already have soft roles. It’s the different class. What you guys are are describing IS dedicated roles.
encounters and builds can be conceived that work with within the framework of a distinctive role structure – support, healing, control, or even tanking. Meta could be allowed to develop around these roles rather than just around the current single pure, direct DPS role.

Not going to happen.
And all you are proposing to “fix” this so called “problem” is to create dedicated roles. Wich the game is designed to avoid.
Can’t you see this is a dead end ?
ONCE AGAIN, the zerker meta is not a problem because of stats. Let’s get that out of the way. The zerker meta is a problem because we’re very restricted to a certain amount of skills/traits that would be intelligent to run. And we’re stuck running those same abilities/traits for all eternity. And that sucks. If you disagree, explain why, I’d love to hear why you think a condi build would be super cool in dungeons, I want to be convinced otherwise.
Let’s get it simple :
There is no system, in real life, or ingame, that doesn’t have an optimal. By this i mean, whatever you do, there will always be ONE and ONLY ONE BEST way to do things. There will be plenty of VIABLE ways though. But always ONLY ONE OPTIMAL.
That’s life. And no one can change it. Gods maybe. But we are not gods. Neither the devs.
Greater the risk => Greater the reward. You want speed, but don’t want to max your damages. You want diversity, yet you limit yourself to certain skills.
Kind of a paradox no ?
“Why would I switch abilities when our parties run through the dungeon fine without doing so? That doesn’t make any sense.”
Fair enough. Then why complain about diversity ? You are already doing fine with your build ! Want to do better ? Change it !
Now the other thing I see people saying for some reason is that “well, if they were to shift the meta, there would be a new best build and everyone would have to run that.” What you fail to understand is that we’re not asking for a shift in the meta, we’re asking for an expansion of the meta. Imagine if I said “Eh, I’m getting bored of my zerker mesmer, I think I’ll switch over to condi damage.” And then I dropped my sword and focus for a scepter and torch. If that were viable, that would be amazing! And then I get bored of condi so I switch over to control. And then from control I decide I want to play a support mesmer. That would be the final result of solving the zerker meta problem.
Basically asking for a trinity like model ? Or in other words, you want the game to REQUIRE a certain gameplay/build to complete content. I’ll say it again, the game is designed to AVOID that all together. ArenaNet stated it (especially Colin) many times. And nothing stops you to play this controll/support mesmer. NOTHING but yourself.
Only part that must change is condition damage. Yup, this one is a mess in PvE.
(edited by Kordash.2197)
@cafard, Okay, now tell me, you’re crossing a road and a car is coming very fast to crush you. Is it better to take the freaking hit in the face and heal after in the hospital, or safely block it/avoid it ?
In the actual state of the game you CAN take the freaking hit and heal afterwards. See the links in my previous post. No need to change anything if you want to play like that.
(edited by Kordash.2197)
Achievements are meant to be hard. Though a lot are not in this game.
You don’t need legendary gear to get those story achievements, you know your hyperbole isn’t valid.
I agree some are harder. But you don’t NEED them. And if you really want them, do what’s needed in order to get them (every single HARD achievement of the story is easier if you go in group, simply put a LFG for that, you’ll be surprised how fast you will get people to do it ). There is no point ranting about it, there is plenty of easy content in this game, a tiny bit of OPTIONAL challenge is refreshing and good. Asking to lower the difficulty is actually selfish, and you should avoid it. Actually, you sound like someone who want’s everything granted, without any effort. Are you ?
Agreed with spoj. That wouldn’t make sense with the actual philosophy of the game IMO.
OKAY
Let’s get it straight and limit to facts as there is a loooot of “Zerker meta is a problem” thread poping.
1) The game was designed to get rid of the “holy trinity”. This mean no dedicated tri-role HEALER/DPS/TANK. It’s at the very core of the game’s philosphy.
2) This imply that every class is able to perform every role to some extent.
Proof of that :
“We built this game so that the professions act as play styles, not as roles. Each profession can support, control, and do damage. We believe that this creates more dynamic combat and more distinct professions because there are more play styles than roles.” Jon Peters
Dedicated roles are NOT going to happen.
3) Whatever the system is there will always be ONE optimal solution. OPTIMAL mean the best. There can’t be two. You can try to fight that, but that’s pointless.
That being said, other options can be VIABLE depending on your standards (Don’t want max speed for clearing content ? It’s fine you know, a lot of people doesn’t care, myself included). Think Clearics/Soldier/whatever are not viable ? Watch the next proof in this post.
4) Berserker is a gear stat combo, IT IS NOT a build. A build is Traits + Weapons (of any stat combo, only the type of weapon matters) + Utility skills. You can roll a meta build and still wear Nomad’s or whatever you prefer.
5) Berserker gear is NOT mandatory to complete ANY content in this game. Knowledge and skill is. It means that you can roll whatever stat combo you want to do any content (maybe one exception would the Three Headed Wurm, but that’s it)
6) Actually, defensive stats combo AND build are very efficient to complete content easily.
Proof of that :
Lupicus meta build + clerics : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qc-h49HeqU
Solo Spider Queen cleric : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-zKXILTkQo
And many more on youtube, actually, you can even find a Warrior soloing Lupi in full cleric missing a lot of dodges that would mean insta death in phase 3 in Berserker and instead face tank it.
The healing power/thoughness/vitality is already fine, you can run that if you want. It’s very effective to maintain you alive without active defenses.
7) Looking for a group in the LFG tool is quite easy. NON META groups actually fills faster than Meta groups with gear check. For proof of that, go ahead and for any paths, try “Path x” and “Path x Meta builds/gear check” in the lfg tool.
8) Asking for a particular setup is fine. Not wanting to play in a certain way is fine. If it’s clearly stated before the run start, only people like minded should join. Non Zerkers joining Zerkers groups AND Zerkers forcing non Zerkers group to play Zerkers are BOTH wrong (and derserves to be kicked out of the group).
9) There is 2 ways of dealing damages in this game : Direct and Condition. It’s true that condition in PvE are not as good as direct damages in organised groups (due to ramp up time and cap), and ArenaNet know it and is working to fix this, they stated it multiple times already.
CONCLUSION AND TL;DR:
Don’t like Berserker “Meta” ? Don’t play it. You are not FORCED to play it. You CAN do it how you want it. This mean the so called META is NOT a problem. Dedicated roles ARE NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. If that’s what you are looking for, you are in the wrong place.
(edited by Kordash.2197)
Okay, thanks, sounds reasonnable to me. Keep up the nice work
May i ask why Yusija is using a Phalanx build in a two elementalists group ? I thought it was not that usefull in that kind of setup. Do i miss something ?
Anyway, good job on this !
Just be patient, it’ll come back ;D
My guess (just a personnal one) would be around spring 2015.
1) Challenging (meaning it should be difficult content, requiring Knowledge > Skill > Everything)
2) Team play, keeping close to the core mechanics of the game such as dodge, clever use of combos, aegis, blocks, reflects, and not going into the “one to tank them all” thing.
3) Rewarding, with some unique rewards comming as skins or special items, but not providing any stat advantage compared to someone that won’t do raids.
<3 Sad that i missed the answers.
Tell me someone have screencaped the “aduse” thread. Please. I missed it while working
