From the character select screen, you can change your home server. It affects all characters on the account—no need to delete any characters. To keep people from abusing it in WvW, it’s limited to once every 7 days.

If the restriction is just for that, why penalise those who don’t WvW? Make it so that when character is transferred it can’t WvW until 7 days have elapsed from the date of the last but one transfer?

I see xenophobia is alive and well in the Guild Wars community, as well as total ignorance of the RMT ‘industry’ and where a lot of its proceeds end up (hint: by no means all RMT is based in China), not to mention an obvious lack of comprehension about proxies and how they operate.

Thanks for that but how long should I have to wait to hear something, because so far I’m no further on that I was.

Support Account insists I don't exist!

I’m utterly confused and fed up because right now I can’t pursue a support issue.

I sent an e-mail to ‘support@ncsoft’ as some FAQ told me to, and got this back:

A support account was created for you at the time you e-mailed NCSOFT Support (support@ncsoft.com). This account is required to correspond with support. NOTE: This is not your NCSOFT or game account login! It is only for support purposes.

Your support account username is: xxx
Your registered email address is: xxx

Where ‘xxx’ was indeed the e-mail address I sent from.

In the e-mail was this link:

https://help.ncsoft.com/app/account/setup_password/cred/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

where ‘xxx’ was the authentication string or somesuch. I clicked it, as far as I can recall it asked for my password, I gave it and all was fine.

Yet now for the life of me I can’t get back to it.

Clicking the ‘Log In’ link at the top of the help.ncsoft.com page and entering the e-mail address shown in that initial response then clicking ‘forgot password’ get me:

Forgot Password
We did not find that email address in our records. Please try again.

WTF?

How can it not find that address when barely 48 hours earlier it had replied to me telling me an account under that name had been created?

Yes, I clicked it before 24 hours was up.

Yes, the ticket created by my first e-mail does exist, I can see it because a link in a follow-up e-mail to a second message I sent to ‘support@ncsoft’ takes me to a page showing there are two tickets, yet STILL if I try to use the ‘Log In’ button does the system insist I don’t exist?

I’m tearing my hair out here trying to understand this silly ‘support account’ thing. Why do I need this second account? Why does it insist I don’t exist when, using a link provided by that very system can I see I DO?

How do I get back to this list of tickets when I don’t have the e-mails with the links in?

And common sense dictates that they would have made all paths more or less equal in terms of the reward.

Agreed, so why put in language that directly speaks of getting some ‘magical’ assistance later on?

Clearly this wasn’t going to be a permanent boon, however I definitely expected some skill, maybe with a very long cooldown.

‘Beautiful langauge’ (as another poster put it) is all well and fine, but this is a very concrete expectation the game gives when looking at this chargen choice.

Excessive Messaging???

So I’m trying to send a load of stuff from one alt to another and get plagued with this message.

What is going on? TWO messages are excessive?

Isn’t this taking anti-RMT way too far?

Why aren't Dyes account wide?

Shock and bewilder when I discover all those dyes I used aren’t available on my alt?!

Well, in all honesty, the tooltips for the dye make it totally clear they “unlock the dye this character”, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise really.

Ah, good, that makes life easy.

Thanks.

Can I also take it that this is how I can set up the game on a second PC? I know I can’t play the same account on two PCs at the same time, but I sometimes need to play on a backup PC.

I want to move the game’s installation tree from a hard disk to an SSD. Is it a simple matter of dragging/dropping it or do some registry entries need fixing up?

Basically, I don’t want to re-install and have to re-patch if I don’t need to.

Cheers.

Okay, thanks for explaining it .. I’m now kind of confused, if they don’t do damage why do they bother attacking? If they stood around looking pretty doing nothing then I wouldn’t have been expecting them to do damage.

I use the scepter because I like the range attack and the other couple of main-hand skills, maybe I’d be better of sticking to Staff for ranged and Sword+whatever for close-up stuff.

Cheers all.

I’m a new player so maybe there’s a mechanic I don’t understand but, at level 10, wielding a scepter, the clones created by Ether Clone are doing zero damage to all mobs with their melee hits and their Ether Bolt casts.

When fighting, only my own damage and that of the Phantasm summoned by Phantasmal Warden happens.

The clones from Phase Retreat and Phatasmal Warlock also do no damage.

No idea how long this has gone on for, maybe from the start. Why is this happening?

New to GW2, questions about Etiquette

in Players Helping Players

I come from a background of playing WOW, LoTRO, Rift, FFXI, FFXIV and GW1 (I still play all except GW1), so I’ve seen a variety of mechanics where ‘etiquette’ plays as big a role if not more so that the game itself; generally in three areas which are my initial concern, where players interact with others in the open world:

1) loot
2) experience points
3) resource nodes

In most of the games I’ve played when it comes to killing mobs, a few different mechanics apply to mob drops: only one player can ‘claim’ a mob and others can’t damage it at all, anyone can damage but only the player doing initial damage gets rewards, or it’s a free-for-all where the person doing the most damage gets the drop (which leads to screams of ‘kill stealing’).

In GW2 clearly anyone can do damage, and it APPEARS to be the case drops are per-player so that ‘helping’ someone else doesn’t risk ‘stealing’ their drops, however I’d not read anything yet that confirms this.

Is this the case?

Secondly, in games where more than one person can damage a mob, XP is ‘adjusted’ (ie. reduced), which leads to endless complaints in places like the LoTRO forums about players running past someone killing a mobs, doing 1 HP’s worth of damage and halving the XP the player that ‘tapped’ the mob receives.

Again, in GW2 it seems this isn’t the case, but again I can’t find confirmation.

Basically, is it ever wrong to attack mobs others are fighting, especially when those are quest mobs, either from the perspective of loot or XP: in other words, in GW2 is there any chance one can be accused of ‘ninja looting’?

Finally, with resource nodes (ore, etc.) these seem to spawn per-player, similar to the way FFXIV works, so that if a player is mining a node it’s also possible for another player to mine it, with both players getting a full number of ores/gems; unlike in WOW where this situation used to cause grief.

Again, am I right in thinking this is how the game works and it’s fine to farm a resource someone else is also farming?

I just want to ensure I don’t get shouted at for doing something that appears to be ‘allowed’ without having it confirmed.

Cheers
