It’s not hard….
Also, who would have thought an MMORPG would have co-operative elements in its open world ? It’s almost like they want you to play with other people in their themepark MMO.
Since GW2 wasn’t like that before HOT (world bosses excepted) why are you here if you like 1990s group-or-die MMOs?
I’ve never seen anything from Anet in my TEMP folders.
Those getting “an error”, are you trying to buy 8000? I got that too and was told by CS it’s a ‘security block’ by Anet’s payment processor.
I was able to buy 4000 repeatedly without any problems.
d) is done in seconds if the software was developed in the right language and class inheritance gets you all the logic needed in one single line of code.
Why should players like me who only play one character be at a disadvantage?
The mastery system should have been separate from achievements, not another layer on top.
I don’t understand why you’re at a disadvantage with only one character, since achievements are account wide you only get credit once (and so only get the MP once for those achievements that reward them) so having one or a dozen characters doesn’t seem to me to make any difference.
The ‘updates’ the 64-bit client does are actually a small number of files that go into the bin64 directory which needs to be created when the 64-bit client first runs .. the 64-bit download only contains the GW2-64.EXE which gets the bin64 stuff first time it’s run.
I don’t know what ‘phobia’ you’re referring to, the 64-bit client seems to have resolved my crashes which happened a lot the moment a world boss event ended (which happened to many others judging by posts on these forums since HOT’s release) and I’ve seen nothing which makes me think there’s anything ‘iffy’ about it at all.
Lol, nice try, but free-to-play accounts can’t even whisper people who aren’t mutual friends, and they can’t mail gold or items, so GW2 going F2P should have literally no effect on goldsellers.
The whispers are from stolen accounts, not freebies.
And how are stolen accounts related to f2p?
They’re not, that was my point!
I was addressing the OP’s assertion the spam he’s complaining about comes from F2P accounts, which the quote I made alluded to when it pointed out F2P can’t send whispers.
I just finished getting my 250 ore. It wasn’t nearly as bad as people are saying. I did do the story twice. Look online for pod routes. You should be able to get almost 30 pods open with an average of 11-15 ore per run.
You guys wanted long term content that couldn’t be bought off the TP. That’s exactly what we got.
I didn’t want long term content that I have to play over and over again.
I wanted new and exciting. Fun and interesting. That’s not even remotely realistic. Replayable content is the hallmark of MMO’s.
DS is going to be THE open world endgame content for probably the next 6-9 months.
There’s replayable and replayable of course.
Replayable content that’s fun isn’t the same as what’s being discussed here, I would suggest.
If you do already own the full core game, you get a free character slot (or you did during prepurchase – that offer may have ended now)
Expire was only for prepurchase.
The info page in the TP Upgrade page for not-HOT accounts STILL SAYS you get a free character slot, so either you are incorrect or that page is false advertising.
Quoting myself, the TP page is correct, I just upgraded a second account which only had the 5 slots from the time the game was released and it now has 6, so this perk wasn’t restricted to pre-orders only, though I do seem to think it was originally advertised as such.
Isn’t the Chinese GW2 service run locally and not connected with the Anet service?
I remember reading about that Chinese system some time last year, a quick Google came up with this example thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/i-m-a-chinese-player/first#post4503457
My personal gripe about contested Waypoints is when you portal in from another zone and are diverted elsewhere, the port should fail and you should be left where you are instead, it’s aggravating to find yourself at times a long roundabout route from where you expected to be because the Waypoint you selected only became contested after you started your trip.
Lol, nice try, but free-to-play accounts can’t even whisper people who aren’t mutual friends, and they can’t mail gold or items, so GW2 going F2P should have literally no effect on goldsellers.
The whispers are from stolen accounts, not freebies.
Black Lion Keys are pretty simple.
Don’t buy them unless you are willing to lose every single time.
You could buy hundreds of them and not get anything good. That’s how Anet makes money, they prey upon the weakness of gambling addiction.
Er, loladdiction?
Yes, some people are, others have more than enough money to try their luck, hundreds of millions of people around the world enter local lotteries, only a tiny fraction of those are ‘addicted’.
Same will be true here, I have no doubt.
What does “the game’s meta” actually mean?
No, seriously, the word ‘meta’ is so over-used these days I have no idea what this suggestion is about.
Hmm…Gating on Personal Stories. I’m sure I’ve seen that somewhere before….
Not in the base GW2 game,m unless you mean the LEVEL gating, but that was LEVELING to increase your character’s power, which of course doesn’t happen in HoT.
Elite spec?
Only if you want to play it, and frankly I level a Ranger as a ranged DPS, not a second-rate trinity healer.
Try to pace yourself when it comes to story. Don’t try to do the entire story in one day. Problem solved.
So, it went like this .. I started the Story, completed Torn From The Sky, I am not locked out from the rest of it by a Mastery gate.
Prey tell me how I progress at a sensible ‘pace’?
No, I don’t want to grind zone events for HPs, I want to play the Story, that for me is one of the largest aspects of GW .. I don’t PVP or run dungeons .. that and zone exploration, both of which are gated.
What is this ‘pace’ you refer to?

The problem with GW2 was that literally the whole core game was too casual. The second they do something to fix that people start crying.
yes because they signed up for a casual game. If you have a game that’s casual for 3 years, then you change it… people are going to be upset. It’s not what they wanted.
+1, You beat me to it.
This has always been a problem with MMOs, IMO. Every group loves to have a healer, but if you’re actually focused on healing, you get no credit for being a contributing part of the the group.
MMOs who don’t have a trinity you mean, which are few.
LoTRO is trinity-based .. just ask Minstrels (healers) and Lore-Masters (largely CC) whether they get due rewards, they’ll tell you ‘no’.
I prefer playing the game to level bouncing mushrooms over jumping on a mushroom 40 times.
Grinding spiders or whatever else most of those with capped Masteries killed endlessly isn’t “playing the game” any more than what he suggested.
I’m seeing alot of discussion about how mastery relates to burn out, that’s not the case.
Mastery = Millions of experience
Millions of experience = time buffer so people don’t realize the mastery system is non-beneficial and shallow character progression.
At its core, mastery is just something to keep consumers occupied. You aren’t doing anything original or unique. It’d be a different story if the player actually learned the itzel language (etc.) by doing related activities.Ah, I just made a comment to this effect on another post – you’re exactly right; if mastery was related to trying to do the things you are mastering, it would make sense and wouldn’t be a 9999999999999999XP grind (which is a lot of veteran spiders, by the way). Like trying out jumping mushrooms ~40 times before it actually takes you in the right direction and doesn’t get you nearly killed, or something like that.
The issue with that is it’s easily bypassed. I could literally just stand next to one mushroom in one corner of a map and jump on it over and over again until I unlock that mastery. Same thing with Itzel lore, just talk to the same npcs over and over again. So how do you slow people down so they don’t unlock all the masteries instantly and devalue the point of masteries meaning to be the long-term horizontal progression?
How can you possibly refer to the Masteries as “the long-term horizontal progression” when many have capped already.
Yes, they played 24/7 but even so that makes it ‘long term = 3 weeks’.

So, how am I supposed to do the hero points?

Locking HP’s (and POI’s) behind mega events so that you cannot reach them at any time that you are on doesn’t sound like sensible long term game design.
Nothing new, several have been in the game forever, Harathi’s zone event for one gates one Hero Challenge (and maybe a POI, can’t be sure about that).
You do realise this is system-wide and nothing per se to do with HoT, yes?
This lockup is a classic symptom of the 32-bit client going out of memory, I had it several times before I switched to the 64-bit client, as many others have also seem to have done.
Maybe these fights should be changed so you have to complete at least one of the pre-events in order to qualify for loot?
I went to my first Karka yesterdey .. been several times but not enough people were clearing the camps so she never spawned in over an hour after her due time .. and the vast majority were AFKing or mindless spamming AoEs in the spawn area while seriously fewer were clearing the camps and it was still some time after her window opened that we went 4/4.
I feel for the guy above who was clearing camps and couldn’t get back before the AFKers had got her down.
i is there any form that can help me to identify if it is really a gm or is just a player with really bad sense of humor
Read the “this wasn’t sent by Anet” message right at the bottom of the mail dialog!

The report it using the ‘!’ button.

Just to complete this thread, I got my 100/100 last night, the information you guys gave me was invaluable, I’m pretty sure I’d not have managed to finish it without them.
/bow
I think it is a phishing e-mail
What is it about the “this was sent by another player” message at the bottom of that dialog left you in any doubt?
oh and what the heck guys, jumping puzzles are used in story line. wake up. Amazes me how people will defend and in a round about way tell others they are wrong. Wake up!
Not sure why you felt the need to necro a months-old thread to basically say nothing new.
In my experience things only become a chore when trying to stick to a deadline you set yourself. My tip: don’t set deadlines. Just play the game and you’ll progress automatically. Choose the activities that are fun for you over those that give more xp.
It’s confusing that people call it a chore, if the content you’re doing to level masteries isn’t enjoyable, that isn’t gonna change after you max your masteries, so just don’t do it. Go back to what you were doing to enjoy the game before the expansion.
And what’s your suggestion for those of us who WANT to play the content we enjoy, the STORY but are locked out due to mastery-gates?
THAT’s when getting masteries is a HUGE CHORE.
How are you locked behind level 2 masteries? They already removed the itzel 4 req.
Anyone’s suggestion would be to play the game, it’d take less than 2 hours (from the moment you first step into the jungle) to get that mastery.
After completing Torn From The Sky you need to unlock the first mastery in order to continue to the next quest in it, the Story quest completion for TFTS tells you that.
So, I’m locked out of the Story till I grind enough XP to unlock Gliding!
…blabla…
Stand next to a Rich Iron Ore node and watch them appear.
…blabla…Ingame I got so often yelled at or reported because of —-——- people that write stuff like this!
Just today it happend again… Like hundrets of other players I have (currently 15) char standing only on the rich iron node in brisban. Every time I relog on the next char at least one kid there starts crying about “botting”…
Only because some don’t understand what smart other player are doing it doesn’t mean others are bots or anything like that!
The odds on the character appearing out of thin air is something like are are far smaller than it being a bot IMO, if you do that then expect to be reported, because your observable behaviour is precisely that exhibited by pos-hacking bots.
An issue arose on Wednesday that caused some players’ Heart of Thorns map exploration to disappear. If your account was one of those that had the map exploration issue, it was temporarily disabled in order to correct the issue. The correction has been made to all impacted accounts, and those involved will find a nice little something in your in-game mail as a gift to thank you for your understanding. We’re sorry for any distress that the time-out caused — the team worked as quickly as they could to rectify the matter.
If your account has been blocked, suspended, or terminated for a reason other than the correction of the map exploration bug, please feel free to contact Customer Support and they will assist you.
It be nice of the dev team/ communications to actually communicate this BEFORE this gets done. It would take away a lot of stress from many people.
It was, if you bothered waching Dev Tracker it was very clearly explained what was being planned and it was announced when the process was about to start!
The dev. doing it was amazingly open and clear about how the problem was being addressed.
Other than that I don’t see how people don’t get how MMOs and expansions work. In every other MMO I’ve played an expansion makes pretty much all of the “vanilla” content irrelevant. Which isn’t even the case in GW2…
It’s entirely the case in GW2 if you looked at it objectively, especially as your assertion about ‘every’ other MMO invalidating existing content when a new expansion comes out.
The ONLY thing HoT does which is different from some, but by no means all MMOs, is that the level cap isn’t raised, but still much of the original game is invalidated because like MOST other MMOs the expansion makes existing end-game gear from existing end-game activities OBSOLETE: ergo, it "makes pretty much all of the “vanilla” content irrelevant"
In my experience things only become a chore when trying to stick to a deadline you set yourself. My tip: don’t set deadlines. Just play the game and you’ll progress automatically. Choose the activities that are fun for you over those that give more xp.

THAT’s when getting masteries is a HUGE CHORE.
People need to quit their excuses and get to doing some actual work for once in their gaming lives.
‘Work’ in a game, I see.
I use watchwork pick and won’t use any other infinite gathering tool; it’s the only one that’s proved its worth to me so far.
Classic P2W I guess.
Er, block first then report at leisure?
I agree, in some games there’s a Report Spam option which does add a session ‘ignore’, but it’s hardly the end of the world if you have to do two things when one of them is not at all time-critical.

You make very little sense, but I’ll try to explain in a way you may understand. Just because other people are farming masteries, it doesn’t mean that’s what you are forced to do. I have a couple guildies who rushed Masteries and already capped them out at 161. So what? I’ll take my time and it may take me a year to get there and I’m not bothered by that at all.
Which is fine until you come up against the Story or other content that’s GATED by masteries you haven’t got round to yet, at which time you’re forced to do the grind you put off until then.
I didn’t expect such a negative response. :x
As more than one person said, this is a game, real-world politically-correct agendas don’t need to infect it for their own sake.
Note that Anet’s official stance is that 4 people don’t constitute a guild, that was stated in some blog about Guild Halls, so they don’t intend for small guilds to be able to get back what they had in the original game .. we’re expected to ‘slum it’ in the Guild Initiative Hall.
Perhaps you should hold off on it until you get a higher level and/or better gear. Or get a friend to go in with you! I’d be happy to help (NA servers here).
But isn’t the Story content all level-scaled so over-leveling isn’t an option?
It sounds like it probably hasn’t been processed but if you log into your game account at https://account.arena.net/overview in the middle section under Gmae Accounts you’ll see the image for GW2 and it’ll either be the original red GW2 one or the new green GW2:HoT.

The word ‘juvenile’ on a ranger’s pet is pretty inappropriate as well as causing this frustration.
While it may be reasonable to have it such that adult animals can’t be ‘tamed’, once a young creature has become a ranger’s pet it’ll mature pretty quickly so would no longer be a ‘juvenile’ at all.
Not everyone is a native English speaker guys. Cut the OP some slack. It’s understandable enough.
As to the OP’s post, they want us to upgrade the boosts through the new system. They get better as your guild increases in levels.
That was obvious, but is it though.
And nothing against OP or non native English speakers, but what I typed stands.
Just stop with the ignorant comments, it was NOT difficult to understand, maybe it’s your reading comprehension that’s the problem, not the OP’s not having English as their first language!
Don’t apologise.
I could understand it fine, Prince and I’m English.
Exactly.
So sorry ,I had little knowledge of English and grammar.
As Tiga said, nothing to apologise for, your English is likely far, FAR better than anyone here could write in your own native language.

We disabled these upgrades because we don’t want everyone to have to be constantly changing the upgrades in their gear based on what they’re fighting in the raid in order to be optimal. These upgrades are bad to equip unless you’re fighting the specific enemy type, and we don’t want to create the situation where it’s optimal to swap out for Sigils of Ghost Slaying to fight through the spirit woods, then switch sigils when you get to Gorseval, then equip Sigils of Justice for Sabetha, and then swap out for whatever sigils you usually use when you leave the raid.
The hardcore elitist raiders are going to whine about this, this sort of min/maxing is exactly what they like doing because it gives them something to look down on others who for whatever reason aren’t able to tote dozens of fight-specific bling and buff items.
I applaud you for doing it.
You’re not the only one who thinks that. Sadly, nothing is as op as the complainers on these forums, seeing that many dumb nerfs have happened thanks to them.
Apart from the entirely justifiable drop in HPs needed to cap elite .. 400 was crass .. what other ‘nerfs’ are you on about?
I don’t agree with the blatant sylvari favoritism. I shouldn’t be forced to level yet another character to 80 and buy another character slot just for a character I’ll only care about just for sylvari only achievements. Those achievements need to be deleted because not everyone has a sylvari and I shouldn’t need to make a sylvari just for an ascended trinket.
I agree, delete ALL achievements I don’t want to do!
If you don’t want to create a Sylvari, don’t, you’ll live without that achievement (whatever it is, I’ve no idea myself).
Can I have the hat in gold, it’s far more ‘me’.
You can’t prove I’m wrong, no matter how much derision you throw at me.
