This was a copper node, nothing special. In this case it wasn’t a ranger, but they usually are. I’m trying to train myself to hit PRT SCR and this time I got one.

How do I raise a ticket for botting? In the Support part of the game menu I see “Report a bug” but nothing about reporting players.

[edit]

Okay, I see how to report it, I missed Panda’s ‘friend’ comment but I didn’t see how to attach a screenshot.

These are bots, right?

in Players Helping Players

Kraggy.4169

I’ve seen a good number of cases of this: I’m farming a resource node when a player appears out of thin air, farms the node then disappears, seconds later they’re off-line.

I don’t see how in-game I report this.

So umm, why do you play an Asura?

in Asura

Posted by: Kraggy.4169

Kraggy.4169

I see pattern to my MMO game playing:

1) In FFXI I usually play Tarutaru
2) In LOTRO Hobbits are my choice when they can play the class I want to level
3) In GW2 it’s the Asura which appeal to me
4) In WOW goblins and gnomes generally do it for me

In all these cases it’s the ‘small people’ who are given the humour, the amusing animations, and often the more pointed dialog (as per the ‘oral orrifice’ line quoted earlier).

Sadly, Rift has no amusing small race .. dwarves don’t count.

Thanks for those comments, they’ve given me a far clearer idea of Karma and its’ uses than I had before.

I’m pretty much in DEKeyz’s camp, I only buy gear if I find my character is struggling with quest rewards and drops, but I do insist on talking to those wretched Karma vendors and in the mid 20s now I’m seeing some nice gear that my crafters can’t make ATM.

Your comments make me think that I can afford to splash out a little from time to time and won’t have too many regrets later.

Confusion about meaning of "nerf"

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kraggy.4169

Kraggy.4169

my friend uses wiki’s definition of nerf: “reduces the desirability or effectiveness of a particular game element” and saying that nerfing dungeons reduces the effectiveness.. ie. making it harder.

The problem here is in the ‘OR’ in that definition, ‘desirability’ is not at all synonymous with ‘effectiveness’ and hence ‘nerfing’ one doesn’t necessarily imply the same effect in the other.

Making something less desirable is unrelated to making something less effective; and in the case of the dungeon being less ‘effective’ can easily be seen as making it less of a challenge and hence less effectively keeping players from getting the phat lewt.

Your friend is failing to see language is often more subtle than a literal reading of the words would indicate.

‘Nerf’ in general means ‘make weaker’, it’s the context that’s critical to what exactly is happening and how the object of the nerf is in comparison to its pre-nerf state.

in Players Helping Players

I want to buy two Minor Runes of Scavenging, the toon I’m trying to buy on has 50+ silver.

Searching the TP gives me a list starting at 1s9c with 1 Avail. I enter I want to buy 1, tells me the total is 1s9c but the BUY button isn’t enabled.

I’m staring at this dialog and I haven’t a kitten clue what the heck’s wrong.

Why is this happening? What am I missing here? I’ve only bought a few items off the TP but up till now I’ve not had a problem.

Why does my Warrior die after Rallying?

in Warrior

Posted by: Kraggy.4169

Kraggy.4169

Noob question perhaps, but it has me baffled ATM … why is it that my Warrior, alone among the classes it seems, always dies even after Rallying and defeating the mob he was fighting.

I can’t figure which Rally skill is causing him to rally mid-fight (as opposed to when he manages to kill the mob who downed him as the other classes seem to do) and then causes him to die even when he defeats the mob.

I don’t recall ever surviving a successful fight on this class.

To Spend Karma or Not To Spend

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kraggy.4169

Kraggy.4169

To mis-quote Shakespeare, that is the question.

Is it advised to hoard Karma points till late/end-game or spend them as you level on gear or crafting?

I ask because in other games equivalent ‘currency’ is often wasted early/mid-game. Take LOTRO for example, for those who know it, Skirmish Points can be used to buy useful leveling gear, but later on they’re far, far more valuable to barter for Legendary Item upgrades.

Is GW2 like this or not? If I spend, say, 10K Karma points leveling up to, say, 50, will I later bitterly regret that because KPs get harder to earn; or will it be the case if I hoard them I’ll end up at 80 with many thousands unspent?

Hey, I’m curious about something. For those of you who feel the activities of active traders is negatively impacting your game… what exactly is it that you’re doing that is being impacted by this activity? I only ask because I honestly can’t figure out what the TP is for for those of us who’d rather avoid that sort of thing, given there are supplies of very good items that have nothing to do with it (karma, tokens, etc).

As some who despises ‘playing the TP’ it’s simple: I resent this activity because it means I have to spend time farming gold simply to be able to buy something that I need, when in the absence of ‘market players’ the price would be lower and I could probably afford it without having to waste time accumulating large amounts of gold.

These players are leeching off the efforts of others, those who went to the effort of getting the items these ‘market players’ then exploit; and often do so using TP bots of course.

See, their fun makes me endure huge amounts of tedium or else go without stuff I need whereas in their absence that tedium would be hugely lessened.

Having raids does not mean tiered gear.

Why do people keep tying great ideas to wow concepts.

They could have raids simply for the challenge and reward amazing skins, money, mats, etc etc.

Why are you all so kitten stuck on treadmill crap and just outright reject anything that MIGHT indicate treadmills in your mind.

Not sure why more people don’t support raids if they had no treadmill… the challenge is welcomed because all the pve content in this game is stupidly easy for the most part…… sorry devs its the truth.

Fact is, most raiders who claim they do it for the ‘challenge’ are actually no better than the rest: they do it for the phat lewt and are the first to demand’ incentives’ (aka. more exclusive phat lewt) to do ‘hard’ content.

Higher rewards for soloing champion mobs

Kraggy.4169

This thread depresses me.

Coming from WOW, Rift, LOTRO (among others) GW2 is a breath of fresh air, no competition for mobs, no ‘camping’ due to horrendously long respawn times, no arguments over who did 90% damage and should therefore get a higher proportion of mobs drops, etc. Who cares if someone strikes ‘your mob’, there is no kill stealing to worry about?

Now, many in this thread are asking for GW2 to become a game just like those, full of selfish people who view everyone else as competition.

And Astralporing is one who seems to want to open the Pandora’s box of “who contributed” to a kill: please don’t, this game is far, far better for none of this “I did more than him” nonsense, LOTRO is awash with that sort of rubbish post-‘Open Tapping’.

Why? Why, people? Why do you want GW2 to descend to the depths of WOW when it comes to ‘community spirit’?

Day or Night in game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kraggy.4169

Kraggy.4169

Imho the day-night cycle should be on a 24 hour cycle like in WoW. Night time is barely noticeable and really doesn’t add much to the game in GW2. In WoW, night time was really when the game became fun.

Absolutetly NOT like that where game time = real time! I hate the fact that in winter, during the week, I never saw Azeroth in daytime.

Having real, distinguishable Day/Night cycles, with night being, you know, DARK, is fine, but it should never mirror real-world time IMO, the game should have a significantly shorter day/night cycle.

TL;DR : please MMO industry, stop forgetting your nerds.

Hard to know what you want as you’re post kind of rambled, but you seem to be saying you want a key-mashing combat system like WOW, where complex ‘rotations’ are used to differentiate the ‘goods’ and the ‘bads’.

As for “trying tons of templates”, fact is most players never did, they went to whichever fansites the min/maxers posted on and cut/pasted whatever skill/talent/whatever builds that particular MMO needed to get TEH BIG NUMBERZ, and derision was cast on those who wanted to do something different because EFFICIENCY is all that matters to the sheep.

A very, very few players KNEW the battle mechanics and were the min/maxers specifying the ‘flavour of the month’ build and the majority of the rest of the playerbase were the sheep that duly did as they were told.

Same goes for ‘learning the mechanics’, a few bleeding-edge players figure out the fights, the sheep watch the videos these elite few put on YouTube and copy those tactics verbatim.

As someone who played GW1 briefly not long after it opened, one thing I loved about that was that I could join up with a couple of Aussie friends I had who introduced me to the game (I’m in England) when they were on, then switch to a local server to play with others.

One of the best aspects of GW1 in terms of community involvement was the ability to join any of your friends anywhere in the world through use of the international districts. Different game, different infrastructure I know, but that doesn’t make it any easier to accept a big step backwards in regards to connecting with our international friends.

True, different games, BUT the game which is inferior came second!

I’m amazed GW2 has regressed in terms of a ‘global community’ to the level of WOW, Rift, and all the other games who segregate regions one from another. The only thing that’s better with GW2 is that at least one can transfer between regions, but dynamic ‘on the fly’ moving like GW1 is light years ahead of that in terms of community building.

The fact you use the word ‘tainted’ shows you have a weird idea of what obtaining one of these by doing it the hard way should be about: it should be about the satisfaction of doing it, if someone is upset because the kitten value has crashed then I feel sad for them.

And if I ever got one it wouldn’t matter in the slightest what you thought of me, I play for ME, not you!

Why do people want the level cap to increase, btw? It’s just the same game with bigger numbers

Because for most people character progression stops at the level cap; forget phat lewt and gear, I’m talking about character abilities and skill, the continued evolution of playstyle for the class you’re playing, gear generally just makes you more ‘powerful’ without changing the way you play.

And I suggest most games players want more than arriving at the destination (ie. the level cap) then sit there forever running the same content.

True, some games manage this without actually increasing the level number (eg. FFXI with their ‘merit’ system, Rift with PAs. etc) but generally mobs also have to increase in strength to keep balance with increased character power; for that, and other reasons, it seems to me that non-level based character progression tends to be unsatisfactory.

I hadn’t expected to see this old cliched question on the GW2 forums, a game which as I see it at my relatively early stage is a game designed to be soloed to level cap and ‘group’ content is, except for loot grinding instances, ah doc world events without the need for formal grouping.

Oh, and the answer to your question: no off-line game is remotely as large with so many things to do as an MMO I’ve ever played, even when I ‘solo’ it.

Finally, let me give a cliche answer to your cliche question: The ‘G’ in MMORPG doesn’t stand for Groups; also ‘Massively Multiplayer’ means others to interact with, it doesn’t per se mean ‘play with’.

In other words, other MMOs treat their players as addicts, who are expected to do nothing but grind levels and then grind gear, only to see an expansion being released and then be expected to grind more levels and then grind more gear, while waiting for the next expansion.

That is bad game design. It’s very easy to understand why MMO companies chose to go with that specific design – it keeps grinders paying a monthly fee, grind is the easiest possible kind of content to design, and so on.

It’s still bad game design, and as seen recently, it simply doesn’t cut it. All games based on that model died or are dying. There isn’t an infinite amount of people willing to be dealt with as if they were addicts willing to accept any mediocre game, and so this classic model of MMOs has led to failure after failure.

LOL .. I find it hard to think of games like WOW, LOTRO, FFXI (to name 3 I’ve played for years and am still playing, along with Rift and now GW2) are ‘dying’.

They’re all a level grind followed by a gear grind, the end-games are ‘raid or die’, from the viewpoint of this GW 2 newbie, Ascended gear and FoTM seems to be taking GW2 to exactly the same place.

To be honest WoW really has almost no similarities to this game.

Either you never played WOW or else you’re being deliberately misleading: character leveling is a very similar process in both, both are quest-based leveling systems where mob killing is a small part of it (unlike more conventional grind-fests such as FFXI).

True, WOW has a raid-based end-game while GW2 has .. nothing .. but the PVP aspects of both are similar, except of course WOW has no equivalent to WvW.

Sure, GW2 has some features WOW doesn’t, and vice versa, but saying they have “almost no similarities” is laughable.

One HUGE difference between PCs and NPCs: in theory, behind a PC is a human brain capable of actively positioning the PC so that being knocked off/back can be avoided or mitigated, I’ve yet to see an NPC AI in any game actively position the NPC in a similar way.
