4-6Gb is hardly ‘too much’ in this day and age, I doubt all of it is needed at once, and that’s what the SWAPFILE is for!

BTW, Anno 2205 doesn’t have scores of players and other objects to track, render and generally faff with.

Good post. I wholeheartedly agree. Though I did beat Prized Possessions without help, it was an unnecessarily frustrating process. I tried Hearts and Minds a couple of times and decided to wait for bug fixes, because it’s just not worth it to me.

Given the age of this content do you really think Anet will ever bother trying to fix it?

So you don’t see Account sharing as a much more serious violation, one that warrants only a few days time out in the naughty corner along with players that have maybe abused the LFG policy or spammed chat .. cmon lets not silly..

Personally I don’t see account sharing is ever ‘bad’, ever.

A single account can only be played once at a time so it matters not at all who’s playing it at any point in time IMO.

Frankly I’ve always viewed the ban on sharing by treadtional sub-based MMOs as nothing more than corporate greed!

For instance, in WOW you pay for 24 hour access and if you use 24 hour access Blizzard has nothing to gripe about, so they have nothing to gripe about if two people share it ONE AT A TIME: same goes for Trion, Square Enix, Turbine, Sony, etc. etc. etc.

With B2P and F2P games the devs’ bleats about sharing have even less credibility than that to me.

But this is indeed the case. The gold you buy in the gem exchange was indeed sold voluntarily by other players. Gold is not created from thin air in this system. The gem exchange is called gem exchange because of that: one player gives gems and receives gold, and another player receives these gems and gave this gold.

I know that’s the line Anet spin with their resident ‘economist’, I frankly don’t believe it, never have. It’s fine for Anet to sell gold, they should have the courage to admit that’s what this is about.

I’ve been playing MMOs since 2004 so I’m very well aware of the damage RMT do .. I played FFXI over the infamous Christmas 2005 period for those who know that reference .. and I’m not at all advocating using them, RMT is in no way the ‘victimeless crime’ many think it is.

Hey all,

We have been fairly relaxed since launch on players purchasing wealth from “Real Money Traders”, but that stops now. We will be taking a very active stance against RMT buyers from here on out.

Why would you take a relaxed stance against crime? RMT is not acceptable in any game.

Likely they clamped down when Anet started selling gold via the thinly-disguised TP exchange mechanism and they didn’t want any competition.

Do they seriously expect the gold people buy for gems comes from other players?

Now with the full core game being free there needs to be a way to limit what the P4F players can do and to entice them to buy the game.

The game Rift shows you a different model is possible, it isn’t a ‘given’ that F2P players need to be limited in order to coerce them to buy the game.

True, all other hybrid games (like DDO, LoTRO, ESO, SWTOR, etc.) limit in some way, and LoTRO F2P players are severely crippled, but Trion went a different route and as a F2P player you have access to the entire game (bar new ‘classes’, which even subscribers have to pay for).

I must have missed the paywall. I didn’t realize I was forced to use real money in order to gain ANYTHING in game that I wanted. The legendary I made, as well as multiple sets of ascended, fully geared out 6 characters, completed various collections, etc.

Oh that’s right because it never happened!!!

It was designed that way to encourage you to buy the game (which is HoT and the Core game. The free version is a glorified demo). Also part of the design is to promote the games longevity and re-playability. The masteries, legendary “journey”, backpacks, etc. Make sure that A) You can’t just do it all in a couple of weeks, then complain that the game doesn’t have anything to offer, B ) It encourages you to do a variety of different things instead of just farm gold by doing the same things over and over and just buy what you want from the TP, and C) it encourages people to buy the game and not just forever play the “demo”.

Plus I would recommend revisiting “paywall”…it might help you out.

Are you in a guild? Simple question. Yes or no answer will suffice.

Yes I am in a guild.

Then you are already past the pay wall.

What does being in a guild or not have anything to do with a pay wall?

They removed guild features from the core game, repackaged them, and put them in HoTs exclusively.

Are you sure about that?

I haven’t seen anywhere that says any guild features have been removed from free accounts, and only available exclusively in HoT.

It’s nothing to do with ‘free accounts’, the paywall applies to players who bought the base game.

They removed the old perk system allowed guilds to earn them via Influence and made the Scribe craft do the same thing, which they put behind the gate of Guild Halls which is behind the paywall called HoT.

THAT’s what they removed from the core game, made people buy HoT to get back but also in the process screwed-over small guilds who used to be able to earn the perks but now can’t unlock the Guild Hall needed to do the same thing.

I did find one new Waypoint in the far SW of Ashford, it doesn’t appear on my world map so I didn’t even know it was there, I stumbled upon it while playing a new Charr last night, before reading the replies here so I now have seen one of these additions.

That’s for one of the new-ish guild puzzles. You will find similar puzzle waypoints in the NW of Snowden Drifts and on the west side of the iron farm in Brisban Wildlands.

If you don’t yet have the explorer achievements for Ascalon, Shiverpeaks, or Maguuma, then you need to scrape around near the doors of the puzzles to unlock the names of the areas behind them. (Or do the puzzles with one of your guilds.)

Thanks but I do have all Explorer achievements, all lists are fully ‘ticked’ which is what lead to ask here as I was clueless how to try to track down the missing POIs/Waypoints/Vistas; and yes, I recall now seeing a guild puzzle marker or something outside a door right next to the Waypoint, I did wonder about that.

I was in the same situation a few weeks ago and I finally just turned off all the event/story notifications and ported from zone to zone until I got the “There’s an unexplored area in this direction” notice.

THAT seems like an obvious idea I’d failed to see.

It will also let me see if there are any missing items in the zone summary.

Thanks.

It’s pretty aggravating that even the main Story is gated by Masteries .. you finish the intro “Torn From The Sky” and immediately hit your first roadblock and can’t continue until you’ve ground your first Mastery .. and then it seems the same thing happens again and again.

I was looking forward to playing through the HoT story in one go, unlike of course the original which was level gated, but it seems Anet found other ways to force you to do other stuff simply to enjoy the story even without being able to level-gate it.

I was going to do the ‘world’ stuff after completing the Story, but I was so fed up being locked out I’ve gone back and started some new characters to work on Tyria Masteries until I feel in the mod to start the HoT grind.

There are two types of players
Players who are casual and are fine playing the FREE core game. And then there are more hardcore players who have bought heart of thorns.

The free players shouldn’t care about getting the BEST gear and the COOLEST skins. They play for fun because they are casuals. The hardcore players do care about that stuff. And they have it available to them more effectively in HoT.

The problem is, there are still people who refuse to buy the expansion yet are hardcore players because they feel like they’re getting gyped/don’t have the money/feel like since they already bought the game, shouldn’t have to pay for the expansion. They are in a limbo between casual and hardcore. They expect all the niceties like ascended gear and legendary weapons but dont want to upgrade to the expansion.

While 50 bucks I’d a bit overpriced for what we got, people spend 50 bucks are stupider crap everyday.

Ascended gear has been in the game for years. It is part of the core game. An expansion should stand on it’s own merit. You don’t nerf and remove stuff from the core game to make the expansion more appetizing.

WOW nerfs existing gear with every new expansion.

No it doesn’t, it simply makes it no longer BiS when character levels go up, which doesn’t apply here due to level scaling and the fact HoT didn’t increase the level cap.

So your WOW comment really has no real relevance here I’d suggest.

Nearly two years ago I got an 80 to do every zone completion bar the WvW ones and I more or less stopped playing around then.

Recently I returned and today I learned that the WvW ones were removed so I should now be 100/100, but I’m only 99/100.

Looking at the world map I see:

Hearts: 300/303
Waypoints: 484/486
POIs: 646/652

I’ve checked my achievements and all areas Explorers are complete, so how can I have had zone completion on all non-WvW zones 2 years ago yet now be so many items short now?

How on earth do I locate the ones I don’t have when the maps are complete? How could these magically be un-done when 2 years ago they were done and marked completed?

BTW, I DO have Chantry of Secrets, I know it was one that was often missed, it’s part of the Kryta achievement which I have.

What MMOs that preceded it did Blizzard copy from? I see little in comparison to the large-scale MMOs of the late 90s, UO, EQ, in WOW.

WOW was the huge success it was BECAUSE it presented something new on MMOs, a break from the 1990s group-or-die mechanics as the only way to level a character or do most/all the content in the game.

GW2 took it to the extreme and erased player interaction. The only thing you can do to another player is resurrect him and buff him. But not attack him. Keeping the pve and pvp appart wastes a lot of potential, since the pvp maps have no lore and are pretty boring.

There’s a reason WOW’s PVE servers in total have a lot more players on them than PVP servers, that’d be the same reason games like GW2 and LoTRO don’t have open world PVP.

While I will have a new 64-bit rig around late December probably, not everyone in that boat can do that.

If your computer is capable of running GW2, it should also be able to go 64 bit, considering the minimum requirements of the game when it comes to the cpu are all able to run 64 bit:

IntelĀ® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better

Please also note: “Due to potential changes, system requirements may change over time and you may be required to upgrade your current system (or obtain a new system) to continue to play the game.”

You’re overlooking the O/S also has to be 64-bit, many will still be using 32-bit Win7 systems I expect, or even XP maybe, and still be running on 64-bit hardware.

Why we should have mounts: Even if they don’t give a speed boost, mounts are a nice way to make your character look nice.

Actually, no game I play with mounts make you look “nice” IMO due to the horrible graphical glitches caused by clipping issues such as weapons slicing through horses’ flanks, capes dropping onto the horse’s hind quarters, etc. etc. etc.

Mounts, like cloaks, are things that video game graphics systems are still incapable of rendering sensibly.

I agree with someone above who said they’d much rather deve. resources be devoted to real, playable content rather than a mechanic the game’s core design made redundant.
