Just what limitations does using only 1 core have, in your opinion?

From where I sit it’s immaterial whether 1 core sits at 47% or 2 sit at 23% each, unlike LoTRO I perceive no performance problems duye to the client not being multi-core aware.

On another matter, I always turn off AO in every game and on every gfx card I use, I hate the black smudges which surround many animated objects and I see no improvement anywhere.

Think about it, someone can go and save an insane amount of gold (if they are that insane) and buy said skin from say 2013, and then claim they were there from day one and got it the first year

So what if they do?

No, seriously what’s the problem here?

Do you REALLY think there are any bragging rights associated with happening to be playing a VIDEO GAME at a particular point in time?

Really?

It’s not about bragging rights. More a token of participation / completion. There is a game-value linked to an item that only comes from one source.

It means you where there and completed that content. Once you make an item tradable you completely remove that value from the item.

I perceive two possible ‘values’:

1) the personal value you place the sense of achievement YOU feel for having obtained that item and participating in the event when it happened – ergo, you were lucky to be playing the game at a particular moment in time and you enjoy having a momento of that, I ‘get’ that view, what I don’t ‘get’ is why YOUR personal sense of value is in any way affected by someone else being able to buy it, that IN NO WAY diminishes YOUR achievement …

… but it WILL DO if you subscribe to …

2) the bragging rights which possessing it and flaunting it you think it give, I entirely reject that view.

I see no other ‘value’ in something like this, and I’m sure it’s the latter for those arguing the OP’s view.

[edit]

BTW, I’m using ‘bragging rights’ because the ‘e’ word is censored but I consider that word far more applicable in this context.

I am sure you’ll agree that false positives happen EVERY time you do ban waves no matter how much you try to check.

Cheating on 2 of your 9 accounts got all 9 of them banned.

9 accs……. I fail to see any real reason any normal player would need more than 1 account. I also don’t see the reason of multi-boxing, anybody doing that cant have a honest reason for doing so….. unless they are like some kind of super-nerd…. even still…..
Kuddos GW2 team.

I remember at launch all the dang bots running around stealing all the nodes from underground. That was annoying. Probably unrelated but i’m sure they were multiboxers.

As was said here:

This is correct. However, if you are running multiple accounts and choose to cheat on one of them, we are going to close all of them. This ban wave had nothing to do with multi-boxing, but likely also impacted players that owned multiple accounts.

this is NOTHING to do with ’boxing so stop spreading FUD.

Silverwaste Event Nerf?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kraggy.4169

The event rewards are dropping, the issue is the new calculation of if you actually aided in the event. If you leave the event, and do not contribute again before its completion you get nothing. Where you used to be able to tag an event as it left (like the pack bulls), you cannot do it anymore. you have to stick with the event.

It is a real shame to be honest.

This information has been available since Play4Free was first implemented. Check the Knowledge Base (‘Support’ link above/below) or the Wiki for more information.

Good luck.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can blame the victim and tell them it’s their fault for not ‘researching’ something .. just how much ‘research’ do you expect a brand new player to do before they actually BECOME a player?

I know why Anet implemented the restrictions they did for ‘free’ players and it’s a shame that the OP’s friend is in this position but sorry, expecting people to do serious ‘research’ before they begin to play something is ludicrous.

Guild hall costs are insane for small guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

There was an interview with Colin that the GW2 facebook page shared where Colin pretty much summed it up that small guilds (less than 10 members) should use the Guild Initiative in Lion’s Arch and that Guild Halls are not meant for them.

So, all the small guilds (husband & wife, family, close IRL friend guilds) are shut out of Guild Halls by Colin’s Proclamation.

He said <4 aren’t a guild in another interview elsewhere.

I think there might be a small point you’re missing:

Tyu did not share his account. People shared their accounts WITH HIM. This makes a huge difference.

Imagine a friend asks you to just log into the game for his/her dailies for a few days while they are away. You accept and help them out. New thing you know your main account is banned.

This is way too harsh! You catch a cheat? You can the account. You don’t ban all accounts that were recently played from that IP! I’ve worked at a game publisher before and this is a ridiculous policy to have. Imagine this IP was in a internet cafe or a PC bang. You’d be banning random people’s accounts. Or in this case someone who’s infractions are little to none.

I urge you to reconsider your stance here and simply ban the accounts you detected the cheats.

Why are you so intent on defending cheaters?

If someone has 10 accounts and has been caught cheating on one there’s a good chance his cheating on the other nine hasn’t been detected yet .. BAN THEM ALL is a perfectly reasonable policy.

Lets face it… a LOT of people are currently really annoyed because pretty often you get disconnected due to lag/routing problems/whatever and upon re-entering the game you end up on a different (much worse) instance of the map than the one you played before.

I get annoyed when the stupid mega-server kicks me off one map simply because Anet want to save power by closing down what they consider to be an under-used phase VM.

It’s the way it works, changing it the way you’re asking for would be a huge amount of work and clearly open to massive exploitation.

if i ONE more time see someone compare HOT content to WoW expansion Content i gonna rip him apart.

just to keep this short:
WoW expansion content = more crap conent 90% of them loose its porpuse the momment your geared thats like hmmmm a week after release and ALL the zones and 5 mans you never gonna step into hell for zones you even forget they exists once you level up to max.

Hot on the other hand have less but WAAAY more meaningfull content. All the zones constantly reward you with something for doing different events that are on nonstop and changing no mater how well geared or what level you are. and it will stay meaningfull for YEARS not just a freaken Week.

i Won’t go into it deeper but these people kitten me off.

While you clearly dislike WOW you can’t possibly argue with any credibility that WOD wasn’t far better value for money in terms of total content and I’ll keep saying it to keep you kittened off.

You also cite GW2’s XP grind as a positive thing “All the zones constantly reward you with something”, all they reward are HPs as part of the Elite grind, yet you no doubt would deride WOW’s Jungle grind as something different: it’s not, you just want to paint it so to bolster your agenda that GW2 is great and WOW sucks.

Story Driven Class Change

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kraggy.4169

Kraggy.4169

I don’t see any basic difference between the two cases, class change by purchase or class change by quest, either class changing is good or not, how it’s done doesn’t seem to me to be the core issue: and for me class changes in MMOs are usually a ‘no no’, it allows someone to level using an OP class and then switch to something that’s harder to level at level cap.

In GW2 it’s probably less of an issue where all classes seem to be easy to level, but there are still many aspects of leveling that are controlled by class and so the ‘OP’ issue isn’t entirely negated.

[edit]

Oh, and to address the XP tome issue in case you want to raise it, the huge penalty for doing that is lack of HPs to unlock builds, if a class change also wipes HPs then I may reconsider it as something I could go along with.

Easiest and fastest way to get a Precursor is to do the following:
Step 1. Go out and find a job making over $20/hour
Step 2. Realize that time is money and just pay Arenanet $100 for 8k gems, it is only 5 hours of your time at work.
Step 3. Convert 8000 gems into roughly 1000g and buy your Precursor off the TP

And there you go, fastest and simplest way to get it, right?

8000 gems = 1000g, what planet are you on?

For the last couple of weeks the price has been around 1800 gems buys you 250g.

To be fair the developers encourage this. They could time gate it so only about 2-3 hours of progression a day is achievable, but they know then the hardcore crowd would get very fussy and rage-leave.

Square Enix did exactly that in FFXIV V1 it was called the fatigue system and you’re right, it was hated but not just by the hardcore being referred to in this thread, because ‘casual’ is a flexible word and by no means does it refer to only those able to play a couple of hours a day, at most.

Masteries is a pretty original way to level up without leveling up

Actually they’re not original, FFXI has had non-leveling character progression for many years and other MMOs also provide for increasing character ‘power’ without an increase in level number, LoTRO’s Legendary Items being one other.

That said, gating content by such mechanics is a bad idea IMO and is why people consider it a grind .. it gate’s desirable content behind the need to acquire masses of points of some sort or other which can only be obtained by repeating content over and over and over again, the very definition of a ‘gind’ for many people.

MY sense of achievement doesn’t depend on how others may get something, why does yours?

But then I don’t consider items in MMOs some sort of status symbol to be flaunted at others. I really couldn’t give a rat’s kitten if I spent months ‘earning’ something others get from using their CC if I gain a PERSONAL sense of achievement doing it.

Many players in MMOs would be far happier if they stopped thinking of the ‘kitten’ value of phat lewt.

Experience over many years of many online systems tells me this isn’t a temporary error, my attempts to use these accounts has failed. I contacted PayPal and the CC issuers, none had received a payment request so none had rejected it.

So what do I do now?

Discovered by trial and error I can only select lower numbers of gems, selecting 800, 2400 or 4800 worked, not 8000.

BUT still there’s a problem. I now get to try to transfer to PayPal but there’s no “Proceed to PayPal” button to click to go to PayPal, only a ‘Done’ button.

So now what?

HoT seems more a DLC than true Expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kraggy.4169

Kraggy.4169

There is very, very little content in the new expansion – and it forces you to stretch it out even more to make it appear as if there was more content.

Compare the amount of content in HoT to the full game – remember you paid full price for both.

Now leave aside the map size – some might argue the new maps are more content rich – concentrate on the other things.

HoT brings fewer new skins, fewer events, fewer instances, fewer story instances, fewer new enemies, fewer mechanics – fewer everything than the core game did on release.
I wouldn’t even be upset if they at least did 60-80% of what we had on Core release – but this is absurd.

And no – core Tyria masteries are not content – they are features – you can’t take old content and present it as new.

I’ve never seen a MMO expac have as much content as the original core game did. You realize they literally spend years developing the core game right?

HoT has more than enough content to warrant the title of “expac.” Also note that expac size vary by game.

That comment seems to conveniently overlook what seems to be one of his main points:

Compare the amount of content in HoT to the full game – remember you paid full price for both.
