I have two PCs next to each other, one can login to the game one can’t, the one that can can’t get to the TP, so hard to tell what is and isn’t causing the problem.

Same 503 error as reported by OP on FOE.

This is a weird one.

I have two accounts running on two PCs next to each other, both behind the same router: one logs in just fine the other tells me it can’t connect to the login server.

All internet activity on that PC is fine, all other MMOs are fine, don’t see how one PC can work and the other says it can’t reach the login server.

Oh yes, clicking the ‘support’ link on the “can’t connect to login server” error DOES get to the support site!

But if the reason she’s getting an e-mail is fixed she’ll not get e-mails, will she?

You can’t AFAIK disable it, there’s no reason to, it’s a minor annoyance to prevent a far bigger one. Tell her to do what Killyox said, then she’ll stop getting e-mails!

Quotes simply copy/paste text from one post into another, there are no internal links so the board software has no way on knowing if/where the deleted post was quoted.

If you want anonymity then posting on a web forum isn’t an ideal way to go about it, and posts can be edited to correct a mistake unless the thread is locked, in which case the point is largely moot anyway.

‘Casual’ has no single meaning, it’s used as a derogatory term by some elitists when they’re being condescending to others they consider inferior .. in which case it will mean something like ‘lazy’, they want it on a ‘silver platter’, etc. .. other times it’s used to define players who can’t devote 4+ hours to do a single raid or other group event, etc. There are many other uses to which ‘casual’ is put, thus it means nothing really any more.

Thus, whenever the word ‘casual’ is used in an argument you generally can toss rational discussion out of the window, because one side or the other will be trying to score points.

My experience differs, my characters are in my own guild yet I still get spammed from a few guilds on FoE from time to time.

I live in Manchester (England) and mainly use BT for broadband. I recently had a dynamic IP address allocated to me which geo-located 200 miles away in Norfolk.

Sadly, BT is such a huge ISP that has multiple Class A subnets and so it seems quite likely this will happen from time to time.

You can’t change it, the ‘problem’ is down to the way geo-location works and how ISPs choose to register their IP blocks, it’s not something the end-user can affect.

Both of those cases are appalling, but the latter in particular is horrifying, 35g is pocket change end-game yet the ban-bot felt the need to interrupt these players’ play over it?

I gotta say this is the most absurd bot-reporting method I’ve seen in any MMO, I live in fear of accidentally reporting a real friend.

However, it seems the only way to report tele-bots or bots that logoff immediately, you have to add the bot to your Friend List then use “Report”.

Please, if you’re going to insist this is how we have to do it at least put the Bots name of the ‘Report’ dialog, where we select ‘Botting’ from the dro-down to give us 100% positive feedback we’re reporting the correct toon.

The Friends List dialog gives no UI feedback as to which entry is selected, beyond the tooltip has you hover over, it’s far too easy for th emouse to move factionally when right-clicking and I’ll end up reporting a friend!

I’m so scared making a report in error I now rarely report any.

“You must login …” .. I’m LOGGED IN, I’m playing the game!!!

Had this for weeks and reported ages ago, fed up having to exit the game and restart simply to access the TP.

The antithesis of places where cool, well-rounded debates take place on the merits of the game which would allow someone looking for insights into it to form an opinion of whether it’s ‘for them’.

Where reviews are often based on a bare few hours play of a pre-release beta .. because God know ‘exclusive early reviews’ are more important that those based on facts and in depth play .. and the score given is sometimes pulled out of the reviewer’s … you know where: and I won’t mention the several notorious cases of game reviewers/site being bought and paid for by the developer concerned.

Moreover, games aren’t like cars.

Firstly, a game is highly subjective, a car is largely fact-based. One man’s ‘intolerable grind’ for example is another’s ‘farming’ which is viewed possibly as enjoyable (I do that at times) or at the very least something which is tolerable given the rewards for doing so; thus reading that the end-game is “one huge grind for a legendary” per se tells the reader nothing about it to let them judge if they’re likely for fall into the first camp or the second in how they view it.

Secondly, game change over time, for many players .. including an on-line friend of mine who played GW for many year and loved GW2 on release .. November 15 marked a fundamental and for them utterly unacceptable change in the game’s philosophy and became “pay to win” (in their eyes).

So, while I agree with the principle you’re propounding, pre-purchase research of an MMO is largely futile, had someone done that on 12th November, the game they got to play was significantly different in some crucial respects than that they had researched: and that wasn’t a one-off event.

Many of course made their fortunes by exploiting the early easy ways to get precursors and have since sold them at ever-increasing prices; not to mention the many other exploits that allowed those ‘exploiting early, exploiting often’ to gain an advantage before Anet got round to closing exploit: note how many times Anet fail to confiscate ill-gotten gains in these cases.

What i don’t get is that players complain regardless of whether the meta needs 4 warriors and a mesmer for speedclear or 4 warriors and a healer. If you don’t want optimal build setups and team comps in a social environment where the kaleidoscopic nature of your (human) being is shown to you in other players, maybe MMOs aren’t for you.

Thankfully, they stopped designing MMOs aimed at the small number of players that think like this at the turn of the Century, FFXI was the last one I can think of that clearly would suit you very well.

Don’t see how these mobs wouldn’t give XP, they’re normal Skritt in a cave, like other places as far as I can see. Thing is, I don’t know when I stopped getting XP, I’ll try to remember to go back there again and see if it repeats or not.

I was exploring Harathi and went into the Ourobore (sp?) Cave, where the Skritt are.

I popped a Lemon Bar (something I’ve use a lot of) and carried on killing. After a few kills I realised I wasn’t getting EXP!!!

I don’t know when it stopped, before or after eating, but I got no ‘floaty’ EXP numbers and checking the level progress bar it wasn’t moving.

I went back to a Waypoint and killed a mob and EXP came back.

Anyone any idea what glitched? While not getting kill EXP I was still getting EXP from mining and gathering.

I was looking at the gem slotting in WOW as the comparison, it didn’t occur to me this was a ‘set’ feature.

I understand what an empty slot is used for and have applied many bonuses, but one aspect of this mechanism has me totally beat: can someone please explain what text such as “Minor Rune of the Centaur (0/2)” means when it appears on higher quality drops, because it doesn’t mean what I think it does!

Specifically, what does the “(0/2)” mean?

I ASSUMED it meant I had to put two Runes into it to activate the two bonus listed below it (like in other games which have a cosmetically similar feature), but after applying one (and getting the message “the existing one will be destroyed”) it still says (0/2) so clearly I don’t ‘get it’.

I read the Wiki about Runes and links to info on Slots but never came across an explanation of this bit.

I despise ‘playing the TP’ and flipping stuff.

I’m necroing this thread of mine because last night while introducing a friend to this game I found that actually it IS possible to ninja in this game.

We were doing one of the very early events in Ashford,one where you have you an item to pop some purple objects (can’t remember the details, I was simply looking out for mobs aggroing him).

Anyhow, he uses the item to pop these purple object you have to turn in (it’s one of those “your contribution is” type events) and gets aggro from two mobs that spawn.

While he’s fighting some guy comes in and takes all the purple objects that popped. My friend got none, these are NOT per-player they global.

This is the epitome on ninjaing as far as I’m concerned and was upset to have to tell him “sorry, they lied to me, you can apparently ninja in this game too”.

This is only partially effective, my ISP has more than one Class A subnet and even though I’ve authorised IPs on both I still get plagued with these lockouts if my DHCP lease runs out and I get an IP from one of the pre-authrised Class As which isn’t on the same Class B or Class C I’ve had before: I have no such problems with Rift, Trion seem to be far better at determining ‘same ISP’ than Anet are.

The current UI of the authorisation page is a poor design IMO, the checkbox is easy to miss since it’s above the ‘Cancel’ (or whatever button says don’t authorise), it should be adjacent to the “Authorise” button and enabled by default.

So I’ve managed to complete three of the Laurel-bearing dailies since release, and all those didn’t have the Daily Dodger bit.

How the heck is a RANGER supposed to get this? We have pets, we’re not suposed to be hit.

I’ve tried mashing the ‘V’ key and had a grand total of ONE score to this in Lord knows how many fights. Even when I put my pet away I still never dodge.

I don’t see myself ever getting a laurel from dailies because of this part to it. What can I do, the RNG seems against me and never seems to ‘score’ a dodge.

Tell me, does using the ‘report cheating’ really work?

Thing is, as a relative noob I saw several time characters appear at a node, farm it then log off. I asked on here if these were bots and was told ‘yes’, report them.

The only way I have found to do this is to ‘friend’ them, then use Report. However, there is nowhere for me to describe the activity at all. Thus, my ‘report’ consists of me simply naming them as a ‘bot’: there’s no evidence collection, no information is asked for at all.

Are these ‘reports’ REALLY taken notice of? I took a screenshot, simply to be able to remember the character’s name, but that wouldn’t be evidence since obviously faking screenshots is easy, so I’m left wondering just how useful this reporting scheme is.

Also, if this is considered useful by Anet, why isn’t this ‘report’ option available simply by targetting the bot, instead of having to try to remember a name that is often deliberately designed to make remembering something seen for only a few seconds difficult?

Yet another “you must login”, getting kitten annoying having to exit the game and back in.

Clearly Anet don’t agree (or abandoned that line of thinking when they saw a chance to make $$$) since they allowed them to be traded on the TP and bought buy gold buyers (whether by cashing in gems or directly from RMT).

As usual, Anet are making the same mistake as most other MMO developers: you’re going for the seller when the REAL ‘bad guy’ are the low-lifes that BUY gold from RMT.

Without a market RMT largely die out, yet Anet along with Blizzard, Turbine, Trion, et. al. refuse to pursue and make examples of the buyers.

Unless the majority of buyers fear for their accounts they’ll carry on supporting RMT, I don’t understand why MMO deves don’t get it: especially devs of games like Anet which aren’t dependent on the subs from those who should be banned for buying gold.

There are very few “false positives” related to account terminations.

You cannot assert that as a fact, you cannot know how many there are.

By definition, a ‘false positive’ only gets recognised as such if sufficient evidence is provided by the accused in their defense which causes Anet to accept the initial guilty verdict was incorrect: same thing as real-world ‘miscarriages of justice’.

If the accused can’t provide that evidence the verdict stands, but that doesn’t mean it also isn’t a ‘false positive’, it means Anet were unimpressed with the defense.

You may like to think that ‘false positives’ are rare, you may genuinely believe it, but there are no facts on which to base such a view because you cannot know how many went undetected; it’s entirely subjective.

I totally agree Noerknhar, as a new player myself it’s inconceivable I will ever be able to afford a Legendary because I wasn’t able to exploit my way to large amounts of gold or abuse the MF to get easy pre-cursors: I don’t ‘play the TP’ and the game gives no way of obtaining the obscene amounts of gold those who have stocks of these must-have items demand and can get.

It seems to me there’s a group of players with enough gold (some ill-gotten) who are largely trading among themselves, while players like me can only look at and watch from outside.

@John Smith: I’m disappointed in your reply to his post, you clearly don’t want to discuss this issue, there wasn’t a hint of ‘trolling’ in his post.

How does one activate this?

I see this mention in the Wiki concerning Laurels, it talks about a Laurel being earned from PVE Dailies and PVE Monthlies. The only Monthly I have requires me to do WvW, which is NOT PVE in my book.

Is the Wiki wrong or this there something I need to do to avoid PVP: I note in the Achievement list there’s a “Monthly” and “Monthly PVP”, but clearly the ‘non-PVP’ one isn’t PVE only.

Since the weekend all my characters get spammed by the guild DRAW on FoW whenever I log them in. It’s getting kitten annoying but I can’t find a ‘block guild invites’ setting, is there one?

I’m already in a guild, but even if I weren’t I’d certainly not join one that spams invites like this, I assume they’re hard up for members if they have to resort to this sort of recruitment method.

Bingo. I love difficult content; it’s what I live for in games like this. That said, difficult content with poor rewards is, well, pointless. Why do a difficult encounter for the same (or worse) rewards as a much easier encounter?

So doing something for the challenge alone isn’t something you do, it’s “pointless”. Your ‘love’ of difficult content is dependent on that content yielding phat lewt it seems.
