Is it too hard? Respect the awesome work

My problems all stem from attempting it solo. Fighting assassins solo is a grinding experience. When I’m grouped up with guildies we can often kill them quickly, but when your fighting 2-3 of them alone its really hard to avoid taking damage.
It ends up being frustrating and tedious. With a group its much easier to deal with the assassin mobs.
This is as designed. Dungeons are designed for up to 5 people. If you choose to solo a dungeon you should expect this sort of thing. At leas that’s how I look at it. Maybe because SAB doesn’t look like a dungeon there are different expectations? We did clearly communicate when you enter a world that 5 are recommended.
That’s the problem, this shouldn’t be ‘dungeon’ content!
The game style you’ve chosen to base this is never was ‘group content’, so why make it so here? Why does everything Anet add to the game now fall into the ‘forced group’ category, where trying to low-man/solo is usually doomed to fail?
Yes, it’s an MMO but the entire leveling experience is SOLO and fun content shouldn’t be ‘group only’. It’s bad enough core content like the Personal Story is forced-group at the end, stop making anything fun be like that.
Yes. Not only was it incredibly complex to maintain it became completely unwieldy to players as well. GW2 has made a great number of changes to systems specifically to avoid the complications we created in GW1. Not creating multiple versions of skills for 3 areas of the game would be one of those changes..
So the majority, the PVEers suffer continual skill nerfs and fidldling about while you pander to the incesant PVP QQ?
Yeah, that seems a good solution to me.
I don’t wanna know how much gold people will unnecessarily lose because of this new “feature”.
They’ll lose gold through their stupidity, laziness or because they’re in a rush, NOT because of this great new feature.
The QA team focused on making sure that every profession could complete every boss (there are 12) with a reasonable level of skill and gear.
Please define reasonable, because hard-core Legendary-bedecked players would define it a whole lot different from non-dungeon-dwelling and fresh 80s .. and I suspect there are far more of the latter than the former.
Sorry, typos. Hordes* of monsters, not horses.
“For The Horde”?
Fungalfoot.7213, PvE balance is a completely different beast, as there are insane amounts of things that undergo balance changes (Different classes of creatures, dungeons, Story instances, events, etc.).
To balance PvE, you’re essentially involving every team but the PvP team. So, when you guys talk about Profession balance, please keep in mind what areas of the game you are referring to when you post your feedback in those sub-sections of the forums.
Which brings something else to mind. The sPvP forums are specifically to discuss sPvP changes, or things that affect sPvP. If you would like to discuss PvE, please use the appropriate sub-forums.
Thanks!
I don’t understand. A lot of the changes that happens to classes are the result of PvP balancing. This affects PvE players as well since up until yesterday, you have done very little to actually separate the two. Nerfing a skill in PvP has had the direct affect of nerfing it every where else as well. So when we see these nerfs, it makes a lot of sense for us to come to this forum to voice our concerns regarding these changes.
The discussions from these forums are in fact where the ideas for these changes originate, right? I don’t understand why you would tell us not to come here when it is in fact the players and the feed back you are relaying from these forums that is facilitating these changes.
Totally agree, far too often PVEers get shafted to deal with PVP whining (the recent mega-nerf to Ranger pet damage being merely one of numerous examples), and if that whining takes place in this forum then this is where PVEers need to counter it.
I don’t PVP, ever, so why don’t my achievement chests give me something useful for PVE???
I’m fed up getting honor tokens and other PVP rubbish I’ll never use.
I love it when John shuts down silly assumptions.
Yeah, just like the many times he did it until eventually he had to admit there WAS a bug.
These days I’d have thought a bit of humility would be advised.
That’s still not an excuse but a rationale. Is it better to have 1 false positive or to let 1000 hackers reign the game? That’s a though nut to crack, and I bet you it’s probably the first. Kittens to be that false positive though.
However I would personally give false positive 500 gems per day banned. Probably not possible though.
The issue is the FPs that are NOT un-banned due to lack of publicity like Reddit gave this ‘bug’.
I can’t go into details, but there were a tiny number of accounts that had false positives for cheating/hacking caused by a bug in the puzzle. We’re fixing that bug (if it hasn’t been fixed already) and reinstating the accounts that were incorrectly banned.
So, in the face of the resulting criticism of this post you posted a short explanation of the way the bug falsely accused players of cheating by mentioning what the bug did in the JP .. that post has now interestingly disappeared.
Why?
I swear 99% of thieves wear the exact same armor.
Most of whom will at this very moment be re-dying that armour with the new black.
If some people only get armor/weapons to impress other regardless of cost/time, well, that’s their problem, it doesn’t affect me in any way.
Agreed.
Sometimes I’ll pause to look at something that’s especially pleasing to my eyes, but it doesn’t matter if it’s a level 10 set coloured unusually or a level 80 set .. certainly I’m not going be admiring something simply because it has certain colour pixels making up its name.
Generally if you don’t use those builds it won’t have a big impact.
Yup indeed, I’m sure all those BM Rangers who focused their build on their pets, you know, because a Ranger IS a per-using class, entirely agree, no big impact here .. a 50% nerf to damage is, after all, unnoticeable.
Fine, thanks for the explanation, but something changed in the last 48 hours because I used the same browser setup ever since I started using these forums and yesterday was the first time RP ever complained.
Cheers.
There is not even a slight feeling of achievement
here.
Bye, have fun playing your smartphone games.
I don’t get it. Why report something that saves you 25g?
I am dead serious.
It’s called morality, look it up some time.
It’s the same concept that would mean one person would go back into, say, a bank to hand back the extra cash the teller had accidentally given you, and someone like you who would probably pocket it think he’d “got one over on the man”, whileignoring the fact the teller may very well have been fired.
And no, ‘morality’ has no shades of grey, you’re honest or not, it’s simple.

Tigg’s conversation does warn players that if they leave the area they forfeit their bet or any possible winnings. I’m sorry that you experienced a disconnect after playing a bet.
DCing isn’t “leaving the area”!
Any action taken by the game as a result of a DC which is the same as that taken as a result of an intentional action by a player is a BAD THING and shouldn’t be in the game, ESPECIALLY if it means players forfeit items or cash.

So they’re going out of their way to make a broken mechanic even more broken. How about fixing the bugs rather than breaking things even more. Having two functions on the same key DOES NOT WORK. There’s an reason other games don’t do it. It’s stupid, irrational and frankly almost unbelievable.
WoW does right click targeting and camera roll in 1 button (right click) too and it has always worked flawlessly without a single complaint. So…
Totally false.
This ‘feature’ of WOW is abused by griefers on PVE servers for example by flagging themselves then standing on top of NPCs or other ‘interactables’ in the hope someone will target/attack them instead of interacting with the world/NPC.
This is regularly complained about by those not wanting to be flagged for PVP by a mis-click caused deliberately by the griefer, so stop lying when you say it’s never been complained about.
It is also a big problem in group instances when it’s all too easily to flood your screen (and of course those of everyone else) with loot boxes from trash corpses when you’re trying to move to the next mob. This too has been complained about for years and nothing done.

exploit = Make full use of and derive benefit from.
Actually, exploit is one of many words in the English language that has many meanings, such as:
tr.v. ( [[tfd.com]] k-sploit [[tfd.com]] , [[tfd.com]] k [[tfd.com]] sploit [[tfd.com]] ) ex·ploit·ed, ex·ploit·ing, ex·ploits
1. To employ to the greatest possible advantage: exploit one’s talents.
2. To make use of selfishly or unethically: a country that exploited peasant labor. See Synonyms at manipulate.
3. To advertise; promote.
Clearly (2) applies here in the most general sense .. the fact it is WAI doesn’t prevent it being abused, for which the word ‘exploit’ also applies.
I take it you’re one of the farmers who were abusing this, judging by your defense of it.
First, I presume third-party gold selling isn’t allowed in GW2 and that, as in other MMOs, players ‘farming gold’ for this purpose are breaking the ToS.
If not then there’s no more to be said.
If so, then how do I go about reporting suspected behaviour like this?
The in-game ‘report a friend’ is entirely insufficient since there is no option to enter any description of what you’re seeing and it says ‘logs’ are reviewed to determine the outcome: I’ve used that a lot to report gathering bots, seemingly to no avail because those characters (or others linked to the accounts) are still there days and sometimes weeks later.
However, I’ll keep trying just in case, so now I’m seeing the same two characters in the same zone every time I’m there, running around killing the same mobs from one end of the zone to the other. They’re not botting since their movements are random and are clearly driven by an active player.
However, while I’ve been there a lot in the last couple of weeks on several different characters these two are always there, no matter what time of the day or night I happen to go there.
Whispers don’t get a response, which isn’t of course proof of anything, but kind of odd since I’ve not found many players in GW2 don’t respond to /Ws on the few times I’ve done so.
Thus it can only be determined if they are breaking the ToS by observation, no logs will show it, so how do I draw them to Anet’s attention so they can investigate.
I know full well some people just enjoy farming, I do myself, but after over two weeks of doing this even I would get a bit jaded.
Opera’s being wonky is a known thing, it’s not a priority because we get so little Opera traffic.
Actually, Opera’s ‘wonkyness’ as you put it is a result of their fastidious adherence to STANDARDS, and it’s a well known way to see if any websites aren’t conforming to those standards .. Anet should learn this lesson, if your site doesn’t render in Opera it’s highly probable it isn’t standards-compliant.
and the damage on Veterans and Champions in the events using the new event scaling should be significantly closer to what was intended. .
So you intended this content to be ‘unfun’ in the way it is with these damage numbers?
Really?
Same here, two accounts, one was about 30 secs from killing Claw of Jormag.
WTF Anet???
My Necromancer wants one of these whips .. to go with her thigh-length black leather boots and …
… I think I need go lie down for a bit.
Take it off the PVE daily.
This, it isn’t PVE!
As Colin mentioned in another thread, we’re investigating a bug that’s causing scaled up creatures to deal more damage than intended. (Originally they were capped to scale for 10 players, we’ve been boosting the scale caps on some events to handle many more players, but this is boosting their damage way too much.) I don’t have an ETA for that. I’m also looking at Jonez in particular, right now he’s using default creature stats, so I’d like to make him a lot tougher. Again, I don’t have an ETA yet, sorry!
So, let’s get this straight .. you made a change, didn’t test it thoroughly, released it, it destroys many events to the point that people literally ‘run away’ when the boss spawns and now have no idea when you can get it fixed.
Is that an accurate summary here?
He didn’t understand for the longest time what the stacks of Defiant were on a mob, and I’m not sure he fully understands now.
And to be fair, this isn’t his fault.
I’ve been playing since Christmas Day, along with a couple of friends from other MMOs, I’m not in a guild with vets .. I have NO IDEA what Defiant is at all, let alone what ‘removing it’ means or how it works. I know it’s a ‘debuff’ (or whatever it’s called in GW2) but that’s the entirely of my understanding.
SO yes, I’m one of those noobs that are screwing you up because the game hasn’t seen fit to teach me this kind of mechanic.
I’m deeply shocked and appalled about the general hostility within this part of the community.
I’ll be happy to let this thread die at this point. I got my concern for other players across, got my Staff answer, and opened my eyes a bit about how little I have in common with many fellow WvW players.
Hope to see you on the battlefield.
That’s why you’re prolly being called a care bear. Nobody’s being hostile, or flaming you at all. As stated before your arguments are pretty biased and then when you don’t get what you want to hear, you turn yourself to some sort of a victim.
Yes, let’s hear another post about how legendaries need to be easier to get.
You don’t like too bad. This is wvw its a form of pvp not some place for all the carebear pve players to hang out
Make a well thought out post on the WvW forums, first two replies shows you exactly why most casual PvE players don’t want to enter WvW.
So you’re taking the first two comments and generalizing the rest of the communities?
No, what he’s clearly saying from what I see is that those first two posts are entirely typical of the hostility PVP breeds in some of those who inhabit the PVP sections of all MMOs that have PVP in them, and which puts off a good number of players who aren’t as aggressive as those posters clearly are.
I don’t PVP, I never PVP, because of that sort of aggressive attitude, and I’m far from being alone: use of the term ‘carebear’ says it all, I want nothing to do with anyone who uses such a condescending term.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me, don’t recall seeing that event and since it’s a group one I doubt it’d get done anyway, seems most group events are ignored in that zone except for the Centaur camp chain.
When the storyline for Flame and Frost ends, the Flame and Frost content will go away.
Why?
No, seriously, why?
Why remove content some/many enjoy and many haven’t completed, especially forced-group content that some people will have trouble getting done in limited time?
Why?
Mentioning the video game economy is mentioning that it’s a specific type of economy, not mentioning it holds less value.
The point is as I see it, what basis is there for considering the world of video game ‘economics’ has anything to do with ‘real world’ economies.
Because that’s what you continually portray yourself as being an expert in and use arguments from ‘real world’ economics, while in fact your professional life is managing an entirely artificial ‘economy’ with many constraints and attributes entirely absent from the ‘real world’ (and vice versa).
As for the issue of your “condescending tone”, as he alluded to, your replies to those who don’t profess or exhibit such expertise are often condescending rather than educational (since you often portray them by the wording and tone of your replies to them as being ignorant).
(edited by Kraggy.4169)
The trading post is part of Tyria, I know of no current way to earn a ban interacting with it.
Which of course is one of the reasons the economy is screwed-up entirely in some areas.
No, it’s in a better state because it is in a better state, period.
Very convincing stance there………..
It’s not my fault that you failed to understand the initial explanation and put asinine statements in my mouth for me. I’m not repeating myself.
Actually, the ‘asinine’ statement was that something is better even though fewer people are enjoying it and many have stopped playing it as a result.
It may be ‘better’ for the elitists, it seems it’s worse for everyone else.
(edited by Kraggy.4169)
In this case, with the culmination of Flame and Frost, given all the tools in our tool kit as developers, a 5-man instance was really the thing that made the most sense for us to pursue, as it enabled us to best tell the conclusion to this story arc in the way that we wanted.
No, there were alternatives, like a WORLD GROUP EVENT!
This is the kind of ‘multiplayer’ activity many of us who hate instances do enjoy, it doesn’t require’ grouping up’ with jerks who abuse you if you make a mistake, but it does create exciting content that clearly isn’t possible to do as a soloable activity.
We worked hard to ensure that the dungeon experience we have crafted is not simply possible to complete by groups of all different skill levels and compositions
So you’ve created an instance that only highly skilled hardcore instance dwellers can complete.
So you’ve seen the large number of players, like me, who are upset we can’t finish the Personal Story because it’s a forced-group event and gone entirely in the direction of making Living Story even MORE elite.
Really? Is that what you mean, because that’s what you just said?
Next time you add new content kitten say up-front if it’s going to need forced-grouping to complete, so those of use who don’t want to endure PUGs don’t get our hopes up.
What you really ask for is the removal of all cooperative play from the game and that’s the kind of thing that would be a deal breaker for huge majority of people! There needs to be content that REQUIRES cooperative play or only few people will continue to play it! That’s because people need to have reasons to play together. That’s a huge thing for every MMO.
Your assertion about a ‘huge majority’ needs facts to back it up, because I don’t think that’s the case.
However, your point of course is spurious, there is a LOT of ‘non-solo’ activity going on all the time and large numbers of people do run instances.
BUT, GW2 IS first and foremost a game where players progress solo, I suggest the vast majority never ‘group up’ for many (any?) instances till they hit 80 and the only ‘co-op’ stuff they do are Group Events: which of course need MULTIPLAYERs to complete.
The issue here, like the Personal Story, is that once again Anet are screwing the not inconsiderable (even if not a majority) of players who, like me, avoid instances because we hate them.
Have as many 5-mans in the game as you like, but DON’T force them as part of core story arcs like this.
If everybody had exactly the same thing, there would be no value in having anything.
Your value system seems to be based on a need to feel superior to someone else becuase you have something they don’t .. some of us don’t put any value on being unique snowflakes, we’re comfortable with who we are and are content that things have a value of themselves and get pleasure from having them.
We don’t care a kitten who else has them, it doesn’t mean anything to me you have one as well; in fact what you have is entirely irrelevant to me, why does what I have matter to you?
Keep SAB in game. There is no reason to get rid of it. In fact a friend of mine after seeing it, decided that you guys were so awesome he bought GW2 just because of the creativity of the team.
There is literally no reason to get rid of such an awesome aspect of the game.
Absolutely and totally agree.
Anet, stop pandering to the “I want to be a special snowflake and look down upon you because I have some kewl phat lewt you don’t” brigade and keep this FUN activity for those of us who don’t need pretty pixels to feel good about ourselves.
Can someone give me an idea if/how the exit from the Hidden Ouboron (in Harathi) which is blocked by boulders with a large blue seal on them can be opened?
If I recall correctly there’s another such seal in the cave in the centaur camp to the north, both sealed passages lead to a central chamber which can be flimpsed through gaps in the boulders. I can’t find anything to ‘inetractive’ with or any clue as to how these blockages can be removed.
Purely out of interest, it seems unlikely these tantalising blockages are just ‘eye candy’.
Lol people shouldn’t “need” to convert gems to gold. It isn’t that hard to earn
Well, since most people seem to make gold in-game by ‘flipping’ items on TP and price-gouging, rather than actually doing something positive then I’ll pass on that, thanks.
So are you saying we have to wait a month to able to complete a small skill challenge? Why cant you guys just hotfix this one or just set up a temporary other way to get it? I’m sorry but I feel like this is a easilly fixed problem unless someone can say otherwise.
Anet reserves hotfixes for exploits that benefit players, something that hurts us isn’t such a priority it seems.
As a normal player of the game, you shouldn’t have to worry that you might get banned for doing something that you didn’t think was wrong.
Yet many players DO fear it, read the several posts in this thread alone citing previous exploits that at the time were NOT so obviously an exploit (eg. Godskull and Snowflakes).
Pretty much every thread where ban-reversals are discussed (of which there’s a steady stream) players post they DO fear a ban due to doing something that doesn’t require a game hack, which is what you’re saying was needed in this case.
For example, before the recent ‘boss chest’ change, in the main Hirathi event chain when the Seraph storm the Centaur’s main camp, the chest spawned after the Seraph broke the gates, ie. two events before the main boss event.
I found I could log in a toon AFTER that chest spawned and still open it, even though my toon wasn’t even in the game when it spawned and in some cases I wasn’t logged into the game at all.
I opened it on all my toons that could get there, was that an ‘exploit’? If so then I risked a ban doing something that the game allowed me to do. I assumed it was WAI since otherwise Anet would have fixed it: the change you did was clearly more than ‘fixing’ a bug (there are after all several world chests that are perma-spawned in those camps).
FEAR doesn’t need to be based on reality!
Our goal is to only ban when we’re sure that the account maliciously participated in the exploit, or was used for muling or distributing the proceeds.
Yet there’s a never ending stream of threads on here which show so often you AREN’T sure and have to reverse the ban; or else your ‘sureness’ was misplaced.
You know, it’s easy to get the impression that Anet take the view, “if we’re not sure we’ll ban and see if they appeal” .. there are way too many ‘human errors’ here to be credible, frankly, or else the staff doing these reviews aren’t up to the job.
An occasional, isolated case maybe, but an never-ending series of multiple cases at a time, I find accepting ‘human error’ as an excuse hard to believe.
(edited by Kraggy.4169)
It is truly appalling that such a game-breaking bug STILL ISN’T FIXED after all this time.
Because three’s something evil about farming?
God forbid players are allowed to play they way they find fun.
/sigh
Would you like any more pointing out on how you failed to say anything meaningful besides waving some imaginary badge of “accomplishment” in a video game… Your past “exploits” have nothing to do gw2 in any way, shape or form.
Keep your name calling to yourself and let people play how they want to play.
He’s pointing out the crassness of some of the ‘must have X, Y, Z’ views on display in this thread and elsewhere and demonstrating that perhaps his views have some validity based on experience elsewhere.
You, on the other hand …
I don’t PVP but I’ve seen similar things at dragon zergs, nameplates appearing many seconds before the character model, other times there seem to be few player then suddenly a huge number just ‘appear’.
Guild Vault Transports are now unlocked with Economy level 5 instead of Economy level 2. The cost has been increased from 50 influence to 1 Guild Merit and 50 influence.
So, small guilds are crucified as collateral damage, eh? My guild was about to embark on E2 to get this, now it’s beyond our reach completely … kitten Anet this is cretinous!
Just what did this exploit enable to happen .. I’m asking what exploiters were able to achieve with it, NOT how it worked! .. which means my friends and I are now barred from getting this perk?
(edited by Kraggy.4169)
We don’t have any reason to use a different currency in future expansions.
Sadly, most other MMO devs DO have a reason: yet more grinds, Turbine prossibly the most egregious in my experience. Good to hear Anet aren’t as cynical.
You’ll have to forgive us hard-bitten players who suffer that mentality elsewhere.
Doesn’t work at times, like right now I haev a level 35 Talisman on a level 36 character with several bits of gear with an unused upgrade slot .. but when I double-click the Talisman instead of highlighting the gear it can be applied to in blue the cursor ‘picks up’ the Talisman and I can find no way to ‘apply’ it.
