No one person can claim to be in the majority, really. Even you.
This message was brought to you by a Kitten with a Keyboard
Well i think one person can claim that , but i dont think anyone on the forums can do that.
Which is funny really , the moment you step on the forums , you leave the majority before you can post about being part of it.
Well said and true, which is why I worded my response the way I did
Great letter and Amen.
Totally agree.
once again I have to state this since it is fact:
MMORPGs are NOT meant to be played in days, weeks or even months. They are meant to be played for YEARS.
This game is still new and is growing very well. In fact I would say it has been the best in the industry in a LONG time.
If you want to whine or turn this into another WoW clone. Please go find a game that CAN be played in 100 hours. Cause this is not your game
The devs ARE turning this into a wow clone. They have said since day 1 of development, that this game will contain NO grind, and 100% NO power creep.
Tell me with a straight face that those 2 things are not in game.
Unfortunately due to assending gear power creep is here.
I have not encountered grind. Highest character is 66
As consider myself a casual player. (an altaolic but casual)
I find no issues with the game except the the new ascending gear which I feel was not needed.
The true majority; as was stated elsewhere; do not come to the forums, are content with the game as it is and so feel no need to come to the forums.
Having been one of these silent majority for over a decade when I heard of this game and how it was designed I was determined to no longer be silent.
I feel that truly being one of the majority. I can speak for the majority more then someone speaking for us that says they are really not one of us.
All games have faults. The true majority is truly happy with the game and play it without complaint.
If you noticed the ascending armor thread is the largest in a long time. That is where a lot of the majority went to in these forums.
Usually we are quite, but I from experience have learned the hard way that is not the thing to do.
Too many times those saying they are the “majority” are in reality just the majority of those that are vocal. In reality they are the minority.
please do not say you are speaking for me and those like me if you are not truly in the majority
Against removing dailies. For me they are something to focus on while waiting for guildies.
I want boss dailies back, and maybe specfic dungeon paths similar to daily missions back in gw.
You can always grind out salvages if you want to boost your ach pts. Do events to generate cash, buy stacks of salvage items.
I don’t think you and Travis understand: OP doesn’t want them to be removed, he wants them to be able to be done on his time when he can do them…
no they got it.
If you chance dailies to weeklies then you would in essence be removing dailies.
Dailies should remain as they are. Adding a weekly would be nice as a said above.
Someone mentioned this in another thread and the light blub lit.
From time to time do in game surveys and/or polls to really see what the clients think.
To the posters above: Yes it’s good logic to try a redesign of something. I do not like the old Mustangs but the new ones I would buy. Guild wars 1 was boring I checked this game out its a win for me. As for the other post yes the majority the minority is yells the loudest. If it was the majority the game would be dead! I’m on my phone so forgive any miss spellings or anything else.
To continue:
The majority are usually quite because they are content. It is always the minority that ruins these games because they are the most vocal. In other words whiners and crybabies cause they didn’t get the toy they wanted
on behalf of the majority
I’m sorry, but no you are not.
BUZZ wrong answer. The majority has always been more quite
Great letter and Amen.
Totally agree.

I agree a test server would be a good idea
OP – those that have said this game is dying truly have no idea of how MMOs work. They are not meant to be played in days or weeks. Heck not even months. They are to take YEARS. This game is a new born to. MMOs. Just ignor these people who have no idea of what they are talking about
I atually have no issues with dailies. So i miss by 1 event time to time. That is my fault not the game.
Now it wouldn’t hurt to add a weekly since i by choice will never see a monthly due to pvp which i no longer do
don’t start this again.
no mounts
If they were to offer areas in some zones like the arena in the Charr home City for example I would agree.
Open anywhere I disagree
agree. I need more storage space
I agree with the others. Casual is not a time constraint, casual is me going about in the game slowly making my way across a map casually – instead of rushing or speeding through everything. We “casually” get stuff done as opposed to “i need to do this this and this right now”.
Agree
I consider myself to a casual player. Even though i play a min of 2the hours on working days, and min of 5 hours on my days off.
You see I am an admitted altaolic. My highest toon is in the mid to high 60s. And i have been playing since head start. This is the first game in a decade where I have felt I have found a new virtual world to call home. I really don’t hope they mess it up
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
Being old grizzled and war torn in RL i have to agree with this
I am against asending gear.
per the rules of conduct of this game:
1. While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. This includes posting insulting, offensive, or abusive comments about players, repeatedly sending unwanted messages, reporting players maliciously, attacking a player based on race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated.
@ Awesome: There are many ways like stalking for example
First per the rules of conduct for Guild War 2

Now I know there is a lot of Blizzard references in this but it is good for any MMO. Please read and use if you feel you have or are being harassed.
http://www.applecidermage.com/2012/03/07/internet-harassment-and-you-a-guide/
Since “harassment” is not one of the options when making a report against someone I would like it to be added.
Thanks
No problem I am glad it was helpful
I highly recommend this article about disruptive players in any MMO:
http://www.guildhelper.com/management007.html
I also recommend the entire site for those that wish to wisely make and run a guild
Deciding to make a guild is really a major decision, and something that should never be taken lightly. As is deciding to be a guild officer as well.
If you decide to make a large guild you are actually taking on a second full time job.
Now to get an understanding of a large guild. That would one of one hundred or more people. A medium sized guild will be between forty to ninety-nine. A small guild will be as you might guess below thirty-nine.
There is also different methods to managing a guild, but the ones that require you the leader or officer to take at least half of your in game time will most likely turn into a successful guild.
A guild, especially large ones, are defined by the reputation they create in the virtual world environment. If your guild gets a bad reputation it will result in alienation form all others in the virtual world and in time the guild will fracture and fall apart.
To understand the role of the leader and officer it is needed to go back to the basics.
Simply:
What is a Leader:
per dictionary.com: 1. a person or thing that leads. 2. a guiding or directing head, as of an army, movement, or political group.
For being a guild leader that would be the second definition.
So then what is a Guide: 5. to supervise (someone’s actions or affairs) in an advisory capacity.
Directing: 3. to administer; manage; supervise
So it is the leaders duty to administer, manage and supervise a guild
Now why is there a need for officers? To help spread out some of this administration, managing and supervision.
In an ideal situation you would want to have 1 officer per 20 members. You would also what to make it where you have at least one officers available at anytime 24/7.
Why? Mainly because you are trying to make a guild that will get a good reputation. This will allow it to grow and give the people within the ability to log in at anytime any day and be able to do anything they want. Again this would be the ideal, which usually does not happen.
So as you delegate duties to your officers you may decide to make a pure military format to your group and you may just assign different sections of the game you are playing to a certain officer.
From my personal experience that once you get over one hundred and fifty members it is best to get a PR officers. Now this is not a recruiters, which is a duty you may hand out, but someone to deal with Public Relations within the game. An example would be someone in your guild accidentally or even purposely causes an issue with someone outside the guild. It would be this person and his/her subordinates to smooth the ruffled feathers even to the point of recommending the removal of the offending guild member if it was determined they had done something that would tarnish your guild’s reputation.
This officer would also have their own officers so that one would be available anytime 24/7.
Why you ask? Your guild’s reputation. Like I said earlier. If you want to make a large guild you are truly starting a second job. Simply you are running a corporation, just in a virtual world instead of in a real one, plus you aren’t getting paid.
For further insight I would recommend you go to the following site. It was made to help those that truly what to make a successful guild in a MMORPG:
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
i am sorry, but all i read is “700 hours played” then see pointless complaints.
if you stuck with this game for 700 hours, which is the equivilent of 17.5 work weeks at 40 hours a week… the game is obviously pretty good.
not trying to be a troll, but seriously, you need some variation in your life. its no wonder you are not happy right now.
totally agree with this comment.
Also remember this is an MMO not a console game.
MMOs are meant to take years to play not 700 hours
Since folks want to read more into something and again imply I am withholding info. I will clarify one last time.
1) I talked to one of the guild leaders nicely even said thank you after that person even after they become rude to me. By the way I was NEVER rude once.
2) They can friend you in your contacts and it give them a general area. I then did a shout unaware I was now the object of a greifer party that a champ was up. Shortly after they arrived. Then followed me everywhere I went for the next hour. (I have several screenshot to support this)
3) As stated earlier my name shows my believes. I treat others as I would like to be treated NICELY.
4) I have been a guild leader in the past and I have been contact many times by folks with issues like this. That is why I felt justified in doing the same.
5) This guild is truly a greifer guild. They on their own volition decided to this. All I did to provoke was try to ask then nice to make a general statement to their membership of as they say 400+ people to try and watch out for others and follow the MMO etiquette as others in this thread have stated.
6) Since you want to read things into it. Why has no one commented about this first guild leader I talked to giving out my name to the general membership who then contacted me and cursed me out. Mention the fact I should change my name. The name you read here. If I were to read something into it. I would say it was a hate crime upon me for making this name you see on my post.
7) Stop trying to read more into. Every time you do you in turn call me a lair which due to my believes I do not do, well try not to do. (everyone is human)
8) This thread was made as an anecdote to help others to know they need to report such behavior. Telling them to hit the PrtScr key as this happens and report it.
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
There’s 2 sides to every story.
OP could have avoided issues by simply reporting the first time and going on about his business.
How did this group of people even find you a 2nd time?
Training is something that is not nor should be the responsibility of Anet.
Has shown in earlier post I have added to this thread this is something that should be handled by guild leaders when someone using their tag.
Please note: Foul Play
Members who actively perform activity for the sole purpose to ruining another’s gaming fun should
be warned or kicked. Such activities such as monster pulling (training) , teleporting one to a hazardous zone, camping a spawning area in PvP, and cheating have no role in an uber MMORPG guild setting. This type of foul play only brings a negative impact to the hard work you put forth to your guild.
this is from the Guild Conduct & Expectations I found which has a link to it in that reply.
As to the rest of your post I would suggest you re-read the thread because you are mis-stating what I have posted.
I would like to further comment that when I was going to High School one of my best teachers taught me. You can learn more form an anecdote then reading a text book.
This is the main reason I made this thread. I will not name names nor attack someone. Nor will I name my server. In time as was stated by someone else in this thread: What goes around comes around.
At this time I would like to thank those that have understood this is just something to get them to think and help them as well as their fellow gamers to have a fun time in this wonderful game.
I just found this. Thought it would help:
Guild Conduct & Expectations
Rules of Conduct are vital in any uber MMORPG guilds. Etiquette and proper behavior should be
required among all members of the guild to promote respect and courtesy among guild members.
What you say and do can be easily misinterpreted in any online format so it is very important that
members maintain proper mature conduct between guild members, alliance members and the general
gaming community.
Misconduct and inappropriate behavior will impact negatively on the guild as a whole. Therefore, you
should stress proper conduct among all members of your guild and be prepare to kick misbehaving
members. If you don’t have the will to kick members, you should have a conduct/conflict officer
who is prepare to make the hard decisions.
Cursing
There is no place for cursing in any uber guild. Sure we all slip a curse when we get killed or are
frustrated but when it becomes excessive or frequent, the member should be warned or kicked.
Improper etiquette only brings a negative and hostile atmosphere to the guild environment and should
be avoided. Cursing should never be seen on any community or global chat. Furthermore, many of
your older members may have children near by or watching. My recommendations are to keep it PG
13 in a group setting and anything goes in private.
Foul Play
Members who actively perform activity for the sole purpose to ruining another’s gaming fun should
be warned or kicked. Such activities such as monster pulling, teleporting one to a hazardous zone,
camping a spawning area in PvP, and cheating have no role in an uber MMORPG guild setting. This
type of foul play only brings a negative impact to the hard work you put forth to your guild.
Stalking/Sexual Harassment/Misconduct of Sexual Nature
Members who engage in any harassment behavior of a sexual nature should be kicked out
immediately. Your MMORPG guild has no room for any predators, perverts or stalkers of any nature.
Not only does it negatively impact on your guild public image and reputation, it also will cause an
increase number of member departures from your guild if this type of behavior is tolerated. My
recommendations are to be firm with this anyone misbehaving in this particular aspect and to deal
with the matter privately and swiftly before it becomes a big issue.
OP -
in addition to your number 1:
The hearts were placed in here to help those use to the old system.
If you go through any of these zones with hearts there will also be people that ask you for your time or help. These don’t have hearts. As you get into higher levels there are less hearts and more of these people about asking for you to listen to them.
I am most likely going to repeat what has already been posted, but here goes.
When the console games started to officially become consumers. meaning their parents were not buying their game but they were. Games like WoW were just coming onto the scene.
Even though RP was a major part of MUDs and early version of GMUDs (MMORPGs). roleplaying became low priority. What became the priority was racing to the end and getting the best gear to beat up the other guy with.
Most that RP now have returned to table top gaming or gone the next step like Furrbies for example.
This is the first game in a long time that gives people the opportunity to return to these roots in the game. Due to how it is setup up.
OP,
You absolutely should report them for griefing.
Having said that, for your own sanity’s sake, once you report them, don’t dwell on it any more. Just go on with your life secure in the knowledge that karma is a *, and one of these days their filter won’t click into place and they’ll behave like this in real life and it’ll go very badly for them.
That is my intentions. Me writing this thread, in a constructive manner to help others, was my way of venting.
I am playing this game with my cousin. So switching servers is not an option at this time. I will go invisible when I can for the next few week though.
Anyway getting off topic again.
per Wikipedia:
A griefer is a player in a multiplayer video game who deliberately irritates and harasses other players within the game, using aspects of the game in unintended ways.1 A griefer derives pleasure primarily or exclusively from the act of annoying other users, and as such is a particular nuisance in online gaming communities, since griefers often cannot be deterred by penalties related to in-game goals.2
Actually, as a former guild leader and having guild leader experience since eq1 was released, and having many many guild leader friends, there is nothing petty about reporting people belonging to a certain guild to their leader. I myself have had people in my own guilds that were reported to me from other players. I’ve never once (nor any guild leader I’ve ever known personally) been rude or confrontational with anyone having a problem with any of my members ever. I’m sure it’s not unheard of.
Well with the very limited information we have in this post, it’s petty. All the guy says is that some random players dragged enemies to him. I do it all the time when I’m traveling from one place to another and not bothering to kill enemies on the way.
Granted I attempt to avoid others, but sometimes I’m not paying attention. Other times it’s enemies resetting to their “home” position after I have dragged them all. Most notably the wolves when traveling from Starry to Slough waypoints to gather orichalcum in Frostgorge. There’s a good 20 wolves in that one passage and I just sprint past them. If someone follows behind and stops to fight, they will end up with the 20 wolves following me on their head shortly. I’m sure I’ve dropped on others just as often as people have dropped on me.
I don’t go seeking out the guys guild leader and complain enough that the entire guild drops whatever they are doing to retaliate against the complaint. Something doesn’t jive here. There is most certainly something being left out of the equation.
People play the game for enjoyment and to get away from their crappy hum drum lives. If someone were making it a point to make someone else’s playtime suck, I wouldn’t deem the person being messed with petty for complaining about it.
I deem it petty based on the distinct lack of information. Especially on the forums. It’s his side of the story. Most assuredly it’s exaggerated and definitely not all the information.
True it is my side of the story.
I must point out though that as was said above this thread is not meant to get your pity, but to encourage reporting such event.
The meer fact that I felt it should have a thread made on it. Shows the magnitude of the situation. Under the guildlines of the forum i have given a fair and honest reporting of facts of this issue.
But to get back on track for the thread.
Those above that said they were guild leaders stated that I did the correct actions. Having been one myself I felt justified in doing what I did. Most here have agreed.
Purposely trianing is wrong
giving my name out to general guild member is wrong.
pretending to be an Anet rep is extremely wrong.
grouping together to harrass someone is wrong
3) is definitely 00:00 GMT
i use them especially when I am doing a dungeon
The most important word that anyone can use for this is respect.
Actually, I have to disagree, politeness or courtesy would be more important, not respect.
Respect is earned and not arbitrarily given.
I can be polite and courteous to someone I don’t respect.
I see your point and agree. I should have used those words instead. I knew I was going to be long winded and went with that instead
Guys, just a small clarification: it is “grief” or “griefing”, not “grieve” and “grieving”. I know it isn’t a big deal but they mean very different things. Grief is not a verb in the English language but in the MMO setting it means harassing other players through verbal or in game abuse. Grieve is a verb meaning to mourn or be sorrowful. Grieving, likewise, indicates the action of a person who is mourning or is in a current state of sorrow.
That being said (sorry, English Major bad habit), I agree that this sort of behavior is very bad form. The pseudo-anonymity that MMO’s create for players lets them act in ways they would be ashamed to act in real life. It is the mark of a very small person.
thanks for the correction… I felt I was spelling it incorrectly but the auto-spell check said I was wrong.
Wow, I wouldn’t do that to anyone even if I hated em. Whats wrong with people? There are better ways to treat people in this or any game. I’d let everyone know who it was just so people know to avoid them and not end up joining that guild unwittingly someday.
Well due to the rules of the forum I am now allowed to do so. As I stated I follow the golden rule:
Do unto other as you would have others do unto you.
My post is as stated was mainly for educational purposes only. Showing an example of extreme grieving. What is unfortunate is that it really took place.
In addition someone stated that there is more to the story then is being said. Again implying I am lying. Let me clarify this issue.
I followed the unspoken rules of MMOs. If you have an issue with a guild contact the leadership and ask them to help you out nicely. I did so. They asked me to provide names. I explained unfortunately due to the train all I saw was the guild tag. It is soon after this that I was called a whiner by another guild leader and cursed out by a regular member. This shows that the “leadership” shared my name to the regular membership. This in itself is something you do not do. Having been a guild leader myself in the past there is an etiquette when someone outside the guild has an issue with someone within your guild. Simply you don’t tell people their names.
I must also add that a member of this guild also tried to pass himself off as an Anet rep. Again something that is against the rules.
This entire issue has been reported and screenshots made as well as any mail saved. This again is the correct thing to do.
I am hoping that I can help someone else in the future if anything like this ever happens to them.
I find it best not to say in public. That would be wrong
Time to time it is needed to run a refresher thread about etiquette within a game. I know this has been posted before by other in other forms, but it is once again time to refresh ourselves with this.
The most important word that anyone can use for this is respect.
Treat others as you would like to be treated in other words. Last night I had an encounter on my sever which will remain unmentioned. A few days ago two separate members of a guild on my sever purposely trained some mobs onto me.
For those that don’t know what “training” is. I will define. Training is when you cause aggro to be established upon yourself and you lead a line of these mobs into someone else. Thus leaving them to with these mobs on them, which can cause their character to get killed.
To continue; I found out the who the guild leaders of this guild that did this to me and proceeded to whisper to them on what had happened. As a result of this contact I was first called a liar. Then a short time later contacted by one of the regular members of the guild who proceeded to cruse me out in chat.
Within the next hour I suddenly found myself surround by several members of this guild including their leaders who proceeded to bring in a large number of mobs on me and eventually got me killed.
They then rezed me to a point of just below actually fully rezing me. This happened in the two times they succeeded in getting me killed. Act as if they were trying to make up their earlier poor treatment of me. They continued to follow me around for about an hour.
This is called grieving.
This is not how people should treat each other. Be it in a game or in RL. This can also be called bullying. Something that has become something that more and more people are become aware is wrong.
My name reflects my believes. I follow the golden rule. I know not all do the same.
I have been in MMOs a long time. I had thought I had seen it all. Apparently I was wrong. I had never encountered an entire guild of grievers to the point that the leadership itself was involved. Now I have.
My best suggestion I can make to those that do follow the golden rule; is do not hesitate to report someone for this type of behavior. It is wrong and needs to be removed. If you can’t do it in RL you shouldn’t do it here either.
I rarely see people grouped in this game, why is that? Do gamers this day in age just want to be left alone to do there own thing? I myself have a heck of a time finding people to play with.
Discuss.
I personally have always preferred to solo in all the MMOs I have been in since 1994. Now I have done things with guild mate and friends.
I have seen the results of PUGs (Pick Up Groups) and I will never work in one ever again.
What I truly consider to be “unsocial” is players that purposely cause trains for example. Folks like this in my eyes are the truly unsocial player.
I like how GW2 is setup. It allows you the freedom to join in and help a person or group as the situation dictates.
This game is still new being just over two months old. I have stated elsewhere that this is not enough time to truly see how those playing truly are.
In Virtual Worlds it takes several months if not years to truly develop a community. Once people get back to this way of thinking I believe you will see just how social this game can be.
This was the first time I have ever made female character in all the MMOs I have played. Both are to honor my wife and step-daughter. Since I did my best to make them look like them. (didn’t quite make it but oh well.)
in addition the female Norn ranger I made. the animation that goes with the sword and horn make more sense to a female character then a male using the same wepaons
@ Thellena & Pelantaris
Now the way both of you said it it makes sense. His wording basically repeated itself.
EDIT: dang frick a fracken cellphone putting in words I didn’t type
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
We run one-time events at the time where we have the highest concurrency.
hmmm thanks for the input, but this sentence doesn’t make any sense.
but still thanks for the added input
Just read the heads up article in announcements. So Friday night, then Saturday and you might as well say ALL day Sunday.
I have to agree with the op on this. Yes it is great. Wish it wasn’t so soon after Halloween.
Then you have to realize they will be doing something next month for the holidays. Too much too quick.
I am glad I was one of the folks that didn’t rush to level 80 and whine they had nothing to do.
Highest level character is 62.
My concern is will there be enough content for lower level folks?
Is there more then one access to the vista @ Human’s Lament in the Charr area?
I personally only know of one which is through the cave with the 2 vet trolls. I have others coming from the ruins to it though, which is north of the vista.
If there is another way there is no issue. I will just have to figure it out. If there isn’t then there is an issue.
do monthly and dailies since the last update
items keep soul bound
dyes account bound
OP:
5 skills????
what game are you playing?
elementalist have over 20
warrior has 15
guardian 17
etc etc
I was just wondering what are you planning on doing with bank tabs and bags full of inscriptions and insignias. You aren’t supposed to hoard hundreds of them unless you’re planning some kind of trading post thing. Usually those things are used immediately after making them since they are only one component of the final product, like 1) craft insignia, craft blade, craft hilt 2) discover/craft new weapon out of those.
Raw materials worth of hundreds of insignias are a lot easier to store because they go into collectibles and as you have noticed, insginias does not.
its none of your business. I don’t hoard. I use them all on my characters. I am an altaholic. how I use my bank is my business. this thread was a request for more storage to Anet. Not a flame vest by nosey people who stick their noses where they don’t belong
