Been in MMOs (MUDs) since 1993 so 20 years in a couple of months. Been a guild officer and leader.
closed and open beta tester for over 20 MMOs.

Consider this game to be a return to what MMOs should have stayed like, which WoW caused not to happen.

best launch of a game I have ever encountered

Anet really does listen to folks but I wish they would do more surveys either via email like they did for lost shores or ingame.

This game is great and perfect as is. You have to actually do something to get get something.

Hate ascending armor. wish it would go away but it won’t.

Anti-hero:
Pros: Endurance, with balanced evasion and power; They can take a hit, and remain on their toes while dealing out modest damage. They can make sure the enemy stays plenty mad at them, but can’t put down their allies on their watch.
Cons: They can’t really do anything at all without a party, soloing becomes an interesting and long fight.

Murderers:
Pros: Condition damage and high strength; They can cut you so deep your grand kids will feel it.
Cons: They can’t do any lasting damage and they can’t get away. You pray that someone else finishes off your pray for you, cause otherwise they’ll be up the creek with no paddle.

I know where you are going and not going to argue against it at all.

just a side note for the two above.

Why no mana?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Krosslite.1950

Krosslite.1950

WoW made the MMO genre what it is today, whether we like to admit that or not. It was the first popular MMO that truly drew attention and set down the foundations(to be ignored or not, as GW2 ignores quite a bit of Actiblizzard’s ideas) for other MMOs to be made. Mana is merely a piece of the game.

No, I don’t like WoW, but it popularized the idea of mana.

I personally think it stupid. You might as well give warriors a dehydration meter in combat and force them to cram a bottle of Asurafina down their throats to keep swinging. I respect how it forces spellcaster(Or in my odd example, warriors)to time and calculate their moves and form strategies, but I just don’t like the idea.

I’m tired and brain-dead. Take my rationalization for what you will, I’m not trying to make GW2 seem like WoW.

GW2 is a return to what MMOs were like before WoW .
WoW was made to satisfy the console gamers that were becoming aware of MMOs like EQ and UO and were whining that they couldn’t play them like a console game.
True Mana has been around since EQ if not earlier, which WoW took that idea and used in their game.
The gameplay mechanics of this game are perfect the way they are. If you want Mana go somewhere else

So….rez, repair and run/swim back to where you were. What is the problem? It would be better if there was only one waypoint per zone anyway. Just put it in the middle of each zone.

The point is, many events, and some quest/skill challenges require a group or large group of people to complete. It’s already getting to the point people can’t experience the full zone due to no one around to help.

please see my post above. since it appears you ignored it by restating this.

Also get in a good guild and work with them.

Like what someone else said this is how the game was made. It is up to us to do the work.

So do it. I have done it and plan to continue to do so.

Additionally. Don’t bother going to Orr cause you will get no where with this attitude.

Krosslite.1950

Come on! Do you really think mana will return just because you create this topic? I really, highly doubt that.

Don’t want to explain, you must know already, what will cost returning mana.

And again, I don’t agree with you. If you think that we don’t need to think in a battle, only reflexes, than I’d say, you are easy target in… pvp for example.

A system we have right now isn’t bad. It’s just some percent of players, a small percent, doesn’t like it, that’s all.

After what Arena have done, do you really think they will return mana system? Mana was here from the very beginning. But then it was taken from the game. Not for fun you know, for a reason. And after that they build system we have right now.

Mesmers were changed because of we don’t have mana. And so on and etc.

Mana won’t return in GW2. I’d like to see that.

several of us showed through videos, blogs and articles that this game was designed to not use mana and why. I really don’t think the person even bothered to look at any of them

And ALL the time. Unfortunately, I died in the Straits of Devastation. The worm spitting giant got me. So where can I rez? Fort Trinity!!! There were 7 other waypoints much closer but they are all contested, and they are always contested.

So I broke out my cell phone and began to play a game on it while waiting for a waypoint to become uncontested. I am still waiting. I wish there was a 30 minute time limit for waypoints to be contested.

those upper level maps are like that a lot I have noticed. Especially in unpopular areas (no dragons)

This is where we the players are suppose to be looking for the missions that don’t have a renown heart and taking these areas back for the NPCs.

I know it is a pain but we can only blame ourselves for the most part. This is how the game was designed to be played.

If you see a contested waypoint try and take it back before you go deeper into the map like I do.

per Ree Soesbee in the PCGamer interview:

You guys take a pretty definite line – they’re a hero, they’re going to have this particular moral alignment. It’s “how are you going to achieve this heroic thing” rather than “are you an kitten”. Is that degree of extra freedom superfluous in other games?

No – it depends on the kind of game you’re playing. We’ve said from the beginning that Guild Wars 2 is a game about heroes. If you’re playing a game about villains there should totally be choices to be a villain. What we wanted to do was tell a story that ends hopefully in the defeat of the dragons, and the choices of bad guy who would do that fall into anti-hero. So that was as far as we were willing to go.

A crying shame you can’t have any of the cookies i baked since you don’t live near me cos i would have given you the entire tray. It’s high time people realized that the ones who complain are in the VAST minority. One of the few ways Anet can really guage what the community wants is by making polls for players to vote on. Maybe even going so far as to make the polls appear in game. This isn’t to say nothing is wrong with the game, but posts like this sometimes (not this time) makes it sound like every single player is angry at the devs.

Personally, i think the forums could potentially destroy any good mmorpg, but this is strictly my opinion.

It has been shown in another MMO that when the Devs started running surveys ingame they were hugely surprized that:
1) those on the forums were less then 10% of those playing
2) their answers were mostly opposite of those complaining in the forum

agreed

yes Block needs to be revamped to be a FULL block

yes including a text and screenshot option or a reference number to submit with screenshots via the official support function would be nice.

Including this type of way to report will in itself cause those that are doing it to be malicious to not want to do it.

True it would not stop all, but making it more time consuming on the person reporting the issue would in itself make the ones that are reported most likely to be legitimate.

This is due to the very fact that they truly feel harassed , threatened, embarrassed; caused distress and/or unwanted attention by someone

@ Krosslite.1950

The problem of this, is I have alot of bad experience from “World of Warcraft” and I have a very good idea of what can be dealt with and what cannot.

The main point is that some of the ideas or problems I see posted is people being “Jerks”.

There is nothing you can do for people being jerks, however you can offer suggestions to prevent them from being jerks by take away their tools, such as emotes, abuse with block/friend list, and other tricks they come up with.

Other than that, say you do use the “Harassment” report function, and hypothetically they get banned for 3 days or more, does it solve the “Root” of the problem no, does it solve your problem, no because you may or may not, face this issue again by the same person, using the same tricks, or a new person using the same tricks as that person before, you reported.

So in the end you have to find ways to stop the “Root” of the cause and then once the player starts using new “Tricks” that has been over-looked, then you can you use the “Harassment” report function.

Until then… you can’t report a person for being a “Jerk”. It is the internet after all and really… its not like you can take them to court or something because they can argue “Freedom of Speech”.

I do understand your point.
But how do we get Anet to address the “root” without a more accurate way of reporting the issue.

Your method which I have shown I follow. Also due to past experiences to know how to approach this; is faulty. Would that not mean that a good startingh point is required and is there not a good starting point available at this time.

Additionally I believe the new offiial word for “jerks” is “bullies”

per what robnsiebler said and the phasing used in their wording. Would that not be covered in the statement: “embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players.”

In my eyes that would constitute harassing behavior not verbal abuse. How is someone to report this?

I have had a more grievous encounter by a group of people. I used verbal abuse and took screen shots.

I also blocked them and reported them to Anet including the screenshot through official support.

I happened to go to be my block list the other day to remove a ton of gold sellers and low and behold there were all of them listed as online.

would a harassment option have been quicker and more accurate? I believe so.

I feel both these examples should have been submitted as harassment and addressed better by Anet.

This is why I started this thread so those of us that know we were harassed, per the rules of conduct, will have a way of addressing this in the correct and official manner it deserves.

1. While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass , threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. This includes posting insulting, offensive, or abusive comments about players, repeatedly sending unwanted messages, reporting players maliciously, attacking a player based on race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated.

harass – keep bothering or attacking somebody: to persistently annoy, attack, or bother somebody
threaten – express hostile intention toward somebody
embarrass – make or become self-conscious
cause distress – mental suffering: mental suffering, e.g. that caused by grief, anxiety, or unhappiness
unwanted attention (Stalking) – the crime of harassing somebody with persistent, inappropriate, and unwanted attention

I hope this answers your questions Awesome. [Edit] Also notice I got this from the rule of conduct for this game and it is paragraph one

The way the system is now (based on chat logs only) doesn’t allow for reporting behaviours that may not show in a chat log. I would also like it to remove your name from someone’s friends list if you block them, and keep them from adding you again as long as they are blocked. This will keep them from still being able to keep track of you.

make sure you use the PrtScr button so you can get screen shots

they are stored in My Documents/Guild Wars 2/Screens

The only game that I’ve ever played that was always dynamic and lacked a grind would be a table top RPG with the GM making things up on the fly, if we took an unexpected turn.

Which turned into MUDs
Which turned into MMORPGs like EQ and AO
then WoW (shuddered) happened and the enitre MMO industry went the wrong way… Away from MMORPGs.

GW2 is the first game in a LONG time I will truly call a MMORPG
