I think there are many things wrong with GW2.. but kitten down-scaling is the best! Why would you want to 1 shot everything?
One shotting is the desire of someone who desires attention that is lacking somewhere else and/or making up for a lack of skill.
If the whole point of the system was so that you could play the game with your lower level friends and not make it too easy for them, then why is it forced on you 100% of the time?
Why is this as an issue? Because one of the BIGGEST reasons for playing an RPG is to progress to higher power levels consistently, and feel powerful. The level scaling system at level 80 makes it feel like I just bought a new Porsche but I have to park it on certain streets to ride my bike.
In traditional RPGs, as I leveled up I got a really good feel for how my power was increasing by getting familiar with the numbers I was hitting for and my hitpoints, etc… and it was fun to see direct effects from gear or level increases. GW2 is lacking this fun aspect of RPGs and it’s completely due to that fact that the level scaling distorts your character progression.
I would much rather not have my character stats constantly distorted than participate in low level content. I understand this wouldn’t be a preference for everyone; but what is the harm in making it optional?
Having been in MMOs for 20 years and can tell you with full assurance an MMORPG is not:
“Because one of the BIGGEST reasons for playing an RPG is to progress to higher power levels consistently, and feel powerful.”
The ORIGINAL “biggest” part of an MMORPG was to Roleplay.
Being the most powerful is something that is not a cornerstone of a MMORPG. This is something that really didn’t become a big deal until World Of Warcraft which is why it is said with a bitter taste in most folks mouth when it is mentioned.
What Anet has done with the Dynamic leveling is to truly allow for those that like to RP to do so. Also for those that truly wish to play with the RL friends to do so as well.
Your post speaks of someone that:
1) really does not have much time invested in MMORPGs
2) wants to be the big kid on the block ie the bully.
My suggestions:
1) research before you post.
2) People hate bullies
3) Bullies are in reality very immature people who seek to cause harm to people they think below them or weaker then them(the latter one is especially wrong). So it is time to rethink your life style if this is how you think.
4) harassment is against the rules of this game and bullying qualifies as such
5) Learn to work with the rules, dynamics, and mechanics of this game or go back to WoW.
Guild Wars 2 is one of the best returns to a truly balanced game system I have seen in over a decade. It is not going to change. You are going to have to change.

I throughly admit to being an altaholic. The most alts of one profession is the warrior. Iuse a different weapon set for each one.
???
The three extra character slots for one of each class is the only thing I’ve spent gems on so far, so I thought of myself as an altoholic. But leveling a whole other character of the same class just to use a different weapon set? Seriously?
It’s too much trouble to unequip your weapons?
You can’t really explain the disease and thought processes of an altaholic. Trust me..the reasons for our behavior make perfect sense to us…kinda. Even if it leaves our fellow players scratching their heads.
I like your response better then mine +1

Also different traits if you noticed I did mention that. Personal taste. Everyone playes in a style that suits them. This is mine.
It falls under the shadow of multi-boxing
I throughly admit to being an altaholic. The most alts of one profession is the warrior. Iuse a different weapon set for each one. I am also experimenting with different traits thoughout them. I find each one challenging and fun to play
I’m not against it, but I also feel the 4 -elemetnals they can swich between each with their own loadout and benifits was actually ahead of the classes that can only switch 2 weapons. If I had a request it would be get rid of all the weapon swap cool downs.
Yes thier ability to swap between the elements is equal to other professions swapping weapons.
A possible fix would be to at least allow the elementalist eqiup it like the other pofessions ccanbut still lock out the swap during combat. This would at least reduce the swap time once out of combat
Frow various articles and videos with Anet staff like Colin for example. They clearly state that more then half of the1500 DEs are in Orr. They imply thier maybe chests at the end of some of the webs which could also yield exotics.
The way the player base acts now we will never get the answer.
Sorry you feel that the open raid system we have is not like other games. From the out set of this game Anet has stated the endgame is the DEs and it will require an organized group to work through Orr to see the various ending and thus rewards
OP: We do not need closed raids, which is what you are refering to. This game has open raids now which people need to start organizing. Most DEs in Orr need to have core raid groups that will stay together and work through the various lines of the DE webs.
Do we need CLOSED raid? No!
Do we need people to organize core raid group to go through the DEs? Yes
Too bad that’s never going to happen. World events such as dragons are always going to be zerg and offer no challenge, because anyone can just walk in and join in—same with Orr events.
If you have a core group though they can figure out the web of event. So some parts get zerged. Maybe not all though. How will we know if no one steps up to do it. Only 77post on main so it cant be me

I have not been to Orr yet. Highest toon is 77 and I am doing my best not to get to 80. Mainly due to not seeing DE raid groups.
That said.
Isn’t there more to Orr then the temples?
I list the meta-events below from the wiki
Ruins of Orr
Cursed Shore
Gates of Arah
Pact Operation Southern Advancement
Temple of Grenth
Temple of Melandru
Malchor’s Leap
Bashing Bauxite Alchemicals
Cathedral of Eternal Radiance
Cathedral of Zephyrs
Pact troops, move out!
The Path to Arah
The Road to Ruin

Northern Invasion of Orr
Southern Invasion of Orr

I have edited in 5 links in my previous post on this page.
I hope they answer your concerns
@Krosslite – can you link a post to that claim? Because if that’s true it’s the first I’ve heard about it. Really minimum10 person group for DE’s in Orr?
Or am I an idiot and just totally missed the sarcasm of the post?

“Events dot html” is the end of above thread link
I do my best to know what I am saying before I post.
As I have been saying almost religiously for 2 months now. The problem is not the game. It is the player base not making any effort to do their own research. That is done by making DE groups and learning how they work.
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
Folks need to start making DE groups since Anet has said that:
1) some DEs my not even activate unless there are at least 10 people very near the DE.
2) most of the best items can not be obtained unless there are people people in the DE
doing the exact same thing over and over especially in a specific area could be seen as botting, which explains your ban.
You will also encounter diminishing returns.
It is best to keep on the move through several zones.
Anet made it clear that exotics and legendaries require group with a min. of 10 people to work through DEs in Orr.
People need to made DE runs in with a core group at the min level. Don’t worry if people come and go as long as you keep the min. level of players.
Then you will see exotics and legendaries
I’d like to read that Guild Wars 2 is the game that lived up to what it said it was going to do," Mike O’Brien told me. "That Guild Wars 2 was the game that offers a really living world; that players can come together and accomplish great things together in the world; that it’s truly a cooperative game; that the things that push people apart in other online worlds don’t exist in Guild Wars 2; and that it has the strong storytelling and exciting combat.
“Basically, the things that have been in our manifesto forever; the things that we promised players that we would deliver then; the things that we didn’t release the game until it was ready because that’s what we wanted to get right – all the things that we’ve been promising.
What is needed is for folks to post in this forum. Stating
1) which server they are on
2) what date and time they would like to form a DE raid group
3) not worry if people come and go as long as a core group is maintained throughout the DE raid run
4) get off their duff and do this then say they have nothing to do.
EDIT: below are links to validate my statments:

what is DR ?
thxi think its Diminished Return!!
is when the game start reducing the rewards you get for doing the same thing over and over again in short periods of times!!
In this game it is more location oriented. If you continue to run around in the same area for a long period of time then DR will kick in.
If you move through out multiple zones for the same time period you will not encounter diminished return.
This was implemented to attack botting.
It amazes me how many people have this ridiculous assumption that the world population should stay the same as it was 2 weeks after release. You might as well stop playing MMOs entirely because you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
The current zone population is pretty good for a game 5 months in release. When SWTOR was at this point there were 10 people in the capital city and 2 people in each zone.
Take a look at WoW, the so-called “number 1 MMO”, and try to see how many people are running around in the zones. Yeah, there aren’t any. GW2 has it good right now, though I would still support giving people incentives to play in mid level areas
here here.
Thus the reason that the player base has to actually get off their duff and do stuff to promote movement in the game.
Anet made it very clear the the DE web in Orr will result in multiple endings and you have to have at least 10 people to even get a chance to get the legendaries that can be found there.
Players need to start doing what they were suppose to do from the get go of this game.
Anet again made it very clear that we the players will make the game change. True they can reset but isn’t war a tug of war. One side pushing the other back then the next week the other side pushes them back plus some.
Well that is what WE are suppose to do in this game.
You need more then 2 people to go to Orr and get the DEs to work right. So like I said. Make Orr DE groups and get busy.
Oh well, we only did just pay $60 for the game.. I got my 60 bucks worth I guess, but i feel bad for the newer players now.
And this response after my post translates to:
What? You want me to actually make an effort to get more outta this game. Well paying $60 isn’t worth me doing anything different.
Simpler translation: I’m lazy and would rather throw $60 away.
A suggestion would be to go to the DE forum. Post your server then say doing an Orr DE run. Need X amount of people @the X time on X day. Please respond if coming.
See if actually doing something like this stops the boredom
Totally agree with the OP.
This game had the best launch ever in my 20 years of playing MMOs.
May on the forum whine and cry for stuff to be added but truly have made no effort toreally figure this game out as it stands.
1500+ DEs most of which are in Orr and require 10 people or more to access legendaries.
If they really want to see what this game has to offer. They need to make DE group and get out there and earn the goodies that still wait to be found
This game has open raids which folks refuse to even attempt to figure out. There are 1500+ DEs which are open world raids.
Have you made any attempt to solve these? Especially in Orr?
Here’s the strat for every open world event in this game:
1) Show up
2) Die
3) Zerg
4) LootIn other words, open world events cannot contain the mechanics, strategy, detail or challenge that a large-scale guild-focused encounter can, where communication and coordination can be expected and required.
you can still make guild-focused attempted with communication and coordination. No one is doing this.
They refuse.
You can still get a core group setup with this. This is required to truly get figure out Orr and get the legendaries that wait to be found.
Again I see people continue to ask for a system that promotes elitist. That exclude and discriminate.
I challenge the large guilds to make core DE raid groups. So you have people that are not in the core coming in and going out. Let them. That is how this game is designed to be played. Use their zerg to help you defeat the DE and then move on the the next stage of the meta-event web.
I have heard none that are doing this or even trying.
Stop crying for the old when you haven’t even attempted to truly figure out the new. The goal of GW2 is to share with everyone. Not have elitist groups like other games have and encourage.
Again it is not the game. It is those playing the game that are the problem. The game is fine.
With 1500+ DEs most of which are in Orr. There is a ton to do that has not been done.
So stop asking for stuff the game really already has and do it.
Here are the “problems”
1) no raids. Answer: there is raiding and does require organization but no one is stepping forward to do it. Orr to get the various ending to take place needs this. All we get is threads like this that says the game needs what it already has. So it open raiding. If you have an organized core who cares if folks out of the core come and go.
2) we need more doungeons. Answer: no we don’t. This makes folks fall into the same old rut as other MMOs as we are already witnessing.
3) no rewards. Answer: yes there are. They are in Orr but no one is even looking for them because they will not make core raid groups to figure out the dynamic web in Orr
This game has open raids which folks refuse to even attempt to figure out. There are 1500+ DEs which are open world raids.
Have you made any attempt to solve these? Especially in Orr?
As I have said.
It is the players that need to get out there and do and look for this stuff.
They have gotten use to dungeons and pvp and thus lazy.
We all need to get out there and explore a little and we may get a big surprise once we doWhat incentives are there to do that with a lvl 80 character, especially with the poor loot drops in the open world compared to dungeons and fractals? Simply exploring the world with any objective isn’t enough for most people.
Well per Anet. Working through the various endings in the meta-event webs in Orr. Legendaries
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
here is a quote from a review made in May/2012:
“The dynamic event system, however, switches the order of things. Instead of these events leading the player to new areas, the events can only be found by exploring these new areas. This system, instead of leading the player around the world, becomes the reward for exploring the world. The good side of this is it makes the player feel more free and not restricted to specific areas. You don’t need to stay and do 2 hours of content in an area to be able to move on to the next zone and have it feel meaningful. The player has control. The bad side of this is because the player has so much freedom, there is less indication of the player being in an area he isn’t supposed to be. The only indication of the player being in too hard of an area is how badly beat he gets from the content, which can lead to frustraition and a lot of wasted time. There is also little indication of progression.”
here is a link to my thread on the topic:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/DEs-have-you-REALLY-done-them-all/first#post1050985
per Colin:
“Orr will also have the most complex dynamic events in the game — the zone will have twice more dynamic events than any other zone in the game. The reason is that there are “branching” events: Instead of moving like a pendulum, going from the fail state to the success state and back (with player interaction, obviously), completing some events (or some step of it, from what I understood of what Colin was saying), it will actually start more than a single new event. So Orr will, ultimately, become a “web of events” triggering things all around the place. This “branching” will be introduced around the other zones, so players will feel comfortable with them once reaching Orr, Colin said.”
As I have said.
It is the players that need to get out there and do and look for this stuff.
They have gotten use to dungeons and pvp and thus lazy.
We all need to get out there and explore a little and we may get a big surprise once we do

From all I have read and due to their own statements. Expect DE changes in the next 2 months.
Also there are 1500+ DEs now that folks refuse to try and do.
Its not Anets fault it those playing the game
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
This is hilarious.
Btw
NO!!!
How did the staff get the addresses of players?? O.O
When doing online or gem store purchases you have to include a billing addy

I could have been 80 three months ago.. I just last week got to 77 on my main.
I am having a hard time slowing down the leveling process
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
Use them and get karma gear. Many times they can help your stats better then crafted. Also you can get some good skins as well.
for example: http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/pirateweapons1.jpg
I am see more bots hitting trees then ore nodes now
1) Will it be possible to get some way to get people back to trying to do Meta-events? Either via a weekly promotion and/or increased rewards.
Especially since the main end-game is the DEs and people really don’t do them enough.
2) Do you plan on doing in game surveys to help address any issues or ideas that may be worked on by Anet?
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
here is a statement made at the end of another thread by Mark Katzbach a Community Special Operations person for Anet:
Okay everybody, this argument is getting a bit circular now. What’s important is the following.
The forum population is not a majority, but does provide valuable feedback which we do take into account, along with feedback from other sources.
The silent majority is not all in-favor or against. Their opinions vary as much as any group of people’s opinions tend to.
They are players just like you. They voice their opinions by either playing or not playing.
Others not on the forums show their opinions on their personal blogs, fansites, twitter and facebook.
Everybody’s opinions are important and valuable.
I hope this clears some things up. I’m going to close this thread now. Please continue to provide us with feedback to help us to continue improving Guild Wars 2.
The renown hearts are the tradtion quest but with a slight spin. Their intent is to break the long time MMO’er from them.
I see no advantages to this suggestion.
People are having a hard enough time switching to this system without throwing up a road block to move folks barkward
I rez someone every chance I get.
What gets me is I get to them and they leave while or before I can.
But if your naked you stay dead
There needs to be more posts like this for all servers.
We need to get DE runs going.
You should post this in the DE forum as well
(edited by Krosslite.1950)
I have run into the skritt-burglar twice.

Do you remember when the game is started and the areas had a lot of player? I want it back!
Posted by: Krosslite.1950
people need to start planning DE runs and posting them here in this forum. That will help.
no one has any other suggestions to encourage people to work through the DEs especially in the higher end areas where they can get you some nice toys?
according to the achievement, i am not even CLOSE to doing them all. i still have a ways to go.
well I can say with confidence that I am no where near completing.
I don’t see it happening unless DE runs start to take place more often and get announced ahead of time in the DE forum
DEs are not raids. They’re public quests, oriented towards mobs of people who arennearby. There is no teamwork required because it’s impossible to have all the random players communicate with each other in that setting. People who wanted raids wanted more serious content that actually requires a preorganized group and teamwork. I stopped reading after you claimed that nobody is reporting broken DEs and I realized that you’re white knighting hard. One of the problems with this game is ArenaNet’s attitudettowards bug fixes. DEs are still broken since August and still require a server restart to reset. Have you seen the bug list for Necromancers? Have you seen the state the Rangers are in? These bugs have been there for months! And yet, anything that makes a more convenient way to make gold than the cash shop is nerfed almost immediately. “The game just came out!” excuse just doesn’t cut it anymore.
per Wikipedia:
Instanced or public raiding
Raids can occur in an instanced zone or a public zone. An advantage to a raid being in an instanced zone is that the raid leader can control who participates. An advantage to a raid being in a public zone is that anyone is free to join the raid when they like, although they may be removed from the raid if they disrupt the original raid group. Disadvantages to public raids are that they are more susceptible to griefing, and sometimes cannot be rezoned, as an instanced raid can, unless the boss is reset by the server.
in addition:
A raid is a type of mission in a video game in which a very large number of people (larger than the normal team size set by the game) attempt to defeat a boss monster
True some can be consider quest. Especially the early ones. Once you get into the Meta-events you are actually doing “open world” or “public” raiding. The plus here with this game is griefing is reduced if not totally eliminated.
I have ran into the end of a meta-event and I was able to assess the best way to take on the boss. Others will be able to do this as well.
Also as mentioned above you have Orr with its Meta-event web. I know these will require planning. Especially if you first figure out the different endings and then second orchestrating them to happen the way you wish to get the reward you desire.
We are talking about the DEs as the end game. Orr is the main DE end game but not the only DE that have more then one ending.
Folks need to start working through these and that will take organization to a degree. Even if people come and go during it. That actually makes it more interesting.
Sure you can zerg through some of the areas but as was also said the bosses can be a pain. Don’t you think planning will be important there?

Can’t get folk to do the endgame now ie DEs
This would discourage it further
Once you’ve done 1 event you’ve done them all.
Some to a degree are similar but if you sticck around a bit you may start to see differences; like a story
At least it was a warning.. a patch and restart.
Unlike other MMOs where they shutdown the servers for at least an hour and you get to look at a log in screen saying you “can not connect to the login server at this time please try again in a few minutes”
I was searching just for a thread like this and found one.
Admittedly it is a month old but let’s resurrect it.
In game surveys are a great idea and have been done in other MMOs.
It will not be self-selective like the forums.
Honestly it will not be answered by all but it will be more then here and thus a more accurate picture of how the players feel and think about the game.
They should address some of the issues that keep re-occurring here in the forums as well like ::shutters:: mounts ::shutters in pain::
here is an excellent source for info
would also recommend reading this before you make a character since these choices form your personal storyline
