Meanwhile…. the Teq crit box remains unchanged.

Economic depression?

Well, like anyone trying to make a buck by selling hard to move merchandise, maybe it’s time for a blow-out sale.

Obviously you see how the economy works just to suggest depression. Those take time to be established, there have to be certain indicators. When things ebb & flow like this sometimes you have to make price-cuts to get people buying again, which is part of a normal economy.

Hey, remember when they made Teq more “difficult”, and all that was a HP buff. I can only imagine what the community would do if there was truly more difficult content.

Here’s a thought, to be fair. Wouldn’t they have to ban all players, guardians or not, who were on a Teq map that used that method for that kill? That would be an ugly situation, especially with the community grumpiness regarding Teq’s HP buff. That’d be ugly.

Also, there is the parallel of the HoM bug. They did fix that pretty quickly, but they did say until they could figure out who took advantage of it (and we are assuming bans/rollbacks/retribution of some sort here) we’d now have access to HoM and we still don’t after how long?

Return of the Monk

About future professions: I don’t expect any more professions to be added after the Revenant. We now have 3 professions per armor class. In addition, Anet said that elite specializations are the way in which they will increase character options in the future.

Future Guardian elite was my thought too, although some have speculated the datamined and unsubstantiated thief/staff combo to be monk-like. I however am sceptical.

There is a difference between a gw1 monk and the monk that is discussed in relationship to the thief. The latter is a monk as in a ‘shaolin monk’.

I think we/he gets that. It isn’t beyond Anet to reuse the monk name/look but without the same (Guardian – like ) mechanics. I think if they do bring a class similar to the GW1 style monk they would avoid the heavy class because of style. I think they might avoid the light armor classes too because even tho gw1 monk was pure caster, I’d think they try to avoid a healer-caster class in a game with no trinity. So, I could completely see them bringing back monk in name and style, but not gw1 styled mechanics.

Honestly, I’m expecting the monk to come back as an elite spec, but when they did something more Canthan related. Since that seems unlikely too, we may never see the return of the monk unless they somehow insert Cantha culture back into the game somehow. This outfit is probably just a tribute.

At OP, we are the last of a dying breed, I am afraid to say. I wouldn’t blame it so much on the direction of the game developer, but on the current gaming culture. It has evolved into this need of more mindless, button-mashing, quick & casual game play. IMO, it’s most likely due to mobile gaming and the many casual games we have installed on our smartphones. It’s like the fast-food of the dietary world. I remember with the intro of PC games (yeah – I know – that sounds alot like “back in my day”) we loved challenging games. We loved the complexity of RPGs and all the subtle clues buried within game that you’d spend hours trying to figure out. Now, when something gets challenging most people whine about how hard it is and move onto one of the many, much easier game. PC games really are the hold out, but it’s seeping in more and more. Any game developer has to realize that because that is where their money is at.

While I agree with you, this will remain the current trend for Anet and most game developers because that is what the largest part of their money comes from.

Personally, I’d like to see TTH do an article on what the majority of gamers really want from a game, and to explore the idea of the evolution of the gaming community at large

I’m sure there will be heaps more info coming again soon, they will most likely be revealing the next 3 elite specs. Since last Tuesday was major, it’s usually at least two weeks before something major comes out again. That and if their offices celebrate over the holiday weekend they might not be at 100% until after the weekend.

I find it curious that some groups kill him super fast while others are failing miserably.

…since i understood how that exploit works, i’m no longer surprised by those speed kills.

I don’t think it’s an exploit exactly. It was here for atleast 2+years and Anet still hasn’t done anything.I think what they only have to increase the critting spots.

I’m not talking about the crit spot. I am talking about that new guard bug.

can someone explain to me how this is a bug? Not debating here, just trying to understand, doesn’t it just 10% damage to enemies standing in the symbol?

10% for each symbol

4 symbols per guardian

20 guardians

= 800% damage increase

50k hits per auto attack are fairly simple.

This is why Teq is succeeding, not any magic strategy. They forgot to limit it to each guardian or one symbol.

So I understand now why this is considered a bug and an exploit. I hope Anet doesn’t consider using their ban hammer over this. TTS might find themselves with less members.

Charged Lodestone Price balancing

So these puppies, as I sure you all know, are in high demand. There’s Dwayna’s stuff, Gift of Light stuff, weapons, etc. . . . They are currently over 3G and the 2nd most expensive is 86s. I know demand raises prices, but it seems more stuff requires this particular lodestone and it may drop the least. In my bank, it is the fewest and I haven’t used lodestones for any crafting. I haven’t researched this, but what do you think? Are things unbalanced right now regarding supply and demand over all the lodestones, or is just that this lodestone is used for the coolest stuff?

My two cents: It’s completely doable, although I’ve only been on a map that has succeeded once. What SweetnStab says is completely true. It should not be a faceroll event. Too many people are still used to the old Teq and try to do the same thing but that no longer works. It would be nice if they made it more challenging rather than just buffing HP, but with all this outrage, I find it hard to believe that Anet will risk the community’s wrath by doing something truly difficult. So, if Anet gives in we all loose.

Every map I’ve been on that’s failed is mostly due to Turret Ops and zerg. Turret ops don’t use #1 and #2 skills reliablly, hardened scales are too high (today’s map had two bone walls) and they don’t cleanse the zerg. In the zerg, too many afk, stand in one spot, won’t wp if fully dead, and range. If zerg melee with turrets cleansing, plus reflects it should go lots better.

This requires coordination and flexibility, but a majority of PvE players are not capable of this .Plus you need to do more than just blindly spam skills. I think the recent buff to Teq just highlights how poorly players were playing it and now we need to change, but change always lead to excessive QQing. If you don’t like the buffed Teq and won’t do it anymore then that at least increases my opportunity for a good map, so thanks!

So if you walk away from Teq a few of us win, if you learn how to work together, we all win.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kythan Myr.4719

I’d say as an ele it really depends on how you play. An ele’s complexity comes from your ability to take advantage of your potential combos. While you can combo with all your weapon choices, there are potentially more for some weapon types than others. Also, your playstyle matters also. Do range or melee? You can just press 1,1,1,1, on staff on things all day and that’s simple, pretty boring. While D/D is much harder if you are trying to combo things correctly.

While I am not trying to sound like I’m QQing about the traits, because honestly I see both the good and bad, I do agree with OP. One of the most lucrative things about GW2 from the beginning was the statement/promise “play your way”. Now I get that can be interpeted many ways, and that’s not my point. My point is since launch we have seen a growing trend in more limits and more constraints. I am concerned where this will end up.

The reasons are all sound too. NPE, PvP/WvW balancing, just mixing things up, etc. . . Maybe someday the devs will just decide things will be simpler and easier for all if there just 3 defined builds for each class and you choose one of those 3. I know it sound ridiculous, but if you were to track things on a continuum since launch, I think we are much more closer to that end point then we were at the beginning.

OK, so I’m confused now. I see what mean about hero points just sitting there after you spent them. My main has a lot after I investing into all the training things and it doesn’t go up when I achieve a new lvl 80. I thought they were able to be used for the new mastery tracks with HoT, but after checking the wiki it says those take mastery points. Maybe when HoT is out Hero points become Mastery points or am I just making things more confusing.

The had way too many skill points and from what I understand they break them up into 3 other currencies: Spirit shards, Hero points, and Mastery Points??? I know you can use Hero points with the new elite specs in HoT, but I can’t imagine them taking an enormous amount for 1 trait line as compared to the existing lines?

So with all the traits gone, some are obviously missed. You may have been the only one in the game using it, but you loved it. But it’s gone now. So which trait was it and why do you miss it?

If Anet did a good job culling useless traits, then I would suppose not many people would have much to say. They did a good job removing traits no one used, so which traits are you glad were removed because they just didn’t “fit”?

I’ve heard most about Ricochet, I personally haven’t used it recently, but did when I was going for pistol mastery achievement.

Which Traits are No More?

Kythan Myr.4719

I’ve had tunnel vision lately and haven’t messed with my build or my alts for quite some time. I used to have a pretty good grasp of all the classes, some more than others. I’ve been loading alts and messing with new build system and obviously some traits are gone now because of the limited number. I didn’t pay much attention to all the pre patch talk, just excited for some balance changes. I was wondering if someone could quickly answer a few questions or at least give a quick re-cap. Thanks!

Questions:

1. I’ve been searching for a comprehensive list of the traits that were removed and I was wondering if anyone knows of such list or someone could make such list? If I use quick math there were 13 major traits before and now there are only 9 per trait line. So that means 20 removed traits per class at 8 classes so around 160??? I’ve heard that some were rolled into base class mechanic like blasting staff. So how many are completely gone from game and not there in anyway shape or form?

2. Is there any reason about why certain traits were removed? Ricochet is one I am thinking of. Fun trait that gave pistols some lovin’.

3. What was the reason for only having 3 traits for each tier now. Seems to remove build diversity, doesn’kitten Granted there were many traits useless or “niche”, but still I liked having room for creativity.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kythan Myr.4719

Kythan Myr.4719

My point is, and I made it another post, is that for me the price is not the issue that I’m struggling with. What I am struggling with is what I am getting. It’s not very clear. I’ve always been under the impression that this will be a “small” expansion. Not so many hours of additional gameplay and a lot of the “new” content will already be included “free” of charge for people with current gw2 accounts. Not to mention the quesion regarding the base game part being included, but what if you already have that?

Is there something more being included that we are not aware of explaining the reason of the unusual $50 price tag of a X-pac? I would not go a sequel of a movie if it was $30 unless there was a reason. On the same note, I would not pay the same price for a movie sequel as the original unless it contained the same amount of content. Using your analogy, I think most people would see the original game like an Avenger’s movie and a X-pac like an episode of Agents of Shield. Would you pay $10 to $20 for a single episode. Not a rock solid analogy I know, but the point is the core game offers so much more content than an X-pac, but cost the same as when it launched. If it truly has substantially less content, like a traditional X-pac, then why the non-traditional price? Are we truly getting more bang for our buck? I’d like to be an informed buyer, and right now I don’t have much information.

Pre-Ordering on hype not details

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kythan Myr.4719

Kythan Myr.4719

I’m not going to rant about the price tags, or at least sound like I am ranting.

If something is worth the price, I could at least justifying the price. Two packages do just that, justifying why they are more than the standard’s $50 price tag. 4000 “free” gems (worth $50) kinda (?) explains that. It’d be nice to sit down and itemize the current worth of these extras and see how much of it is indeed “free”.

My issue is what am I getting for the “base” package of $50. In order for me to feel completely comfortable with that price tag there are a few things that I need to know. I’m trying to be careful to not just go for the hype.

For starters:
1. Beta Schedule (how many beta events, for how long and about when) Paying the $50 sounds better if I’m going to be playing at least 3 beta weekends rather than 1. Assuming they follow the same model as before.

2. What’s completely exclusive to HoT that an existing GW2 account won’t get? Anything other than 1 class, new maps – in their words, small footprint, but crammed with detail? We know a lot of stuff is coming like specializations, Stronghold, and new WvW map, but don’t we already get that with our current gw2 account? Do we get new dungeons, raid content, how many new hours of gameplay?

3. Approximate release date of HoT? Not super necessary, but nice to know before I fork over $50 right now. If it is way off, maybe I’d pay that money next month rather than now.

Now that a price tag has been attached, what really am I getting? I’ve always been under the impression that this expansion is small. If so I find the $50 price tag a bit much. However if there is more to it that hasn’t been released yet, they I need to know this before I make the purchase, otherwise I feel I’m just spending my money based on hype and nothing concrete.

BL Weapon Skins

As a general rule, is it always profitable buying current 1-ticket BL skins off the TP to sell later when 3 or 5 tickets? I can’t think of any instances when it has not been. This is well known investment strategy, so I don’t think it is ruining anyone’s market. Just curious if it a “safe” bet. [IDEA] After Ambrite Weapon Collection

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kythan Myr.4719

Kythan Myr.4719

So I have an idea of what players could do after they have completed the Ambrite Weapon collection. Once a player has finished the collection make it that any additional weapon they craft is no longer account bound and then could be sold on TP. After a player finishes the collection there are two problems that come up.

First, there’s no big reason to go to Dry Top except for Mawdrey or Living Story stuff. Since Living Story will always be there, it might be nice to have an incentive for players who have completed both Mawdrey and LS to still be there. This is true today with the Ambrite weapons, but after completion of those there is little reason to stay. After HoT, population should plummet unless HoT includes DTop somehow.

Second, if a player somehow gets another fossil somehow after collection completion, there is little reason to make a duplicate weapon since it is account bound. So if a player has extra Z-lockpicks, there’s little reason to use because if I get a second fossil it’s kinda useless. Same with PvP reward track, there’s little reason to keep doing that if the fossil is the end reward of the track.

I also think a problem may arise for those trying to complete the collection if DTop doesn’t have the players to push to higher tiers after HoT for acquiring the recipes, unless again there is some reason HoT has players still staying there.

So to address these problems here is my suggestion. After a player has completed the collection why not make it so that player can now craft the weapons no longer account bound. Any weapons they craft that is already unlocked in their wardrobe will not be account bound and then could be sold on TP. In order to do so, all 16 weapons would have to been crafted first and this would be simulating expertise as a crafter. This would open up a new niche that allows only those “experts” who have spent the time grinding geodes and fossils to now profit off of that achievement and help others who do not want to invest the time later in the games future to still acquire the collection. This would also give a reason for the players to have have a presence as they are searching during the sandstorms for additional fossils to use in crafting. Bottom line it adds another component to the game for players to do , make profit, and more importantly help newer players. It gives a reason for vets to teach the new players.

One big potential pitfall is that players who are not crafting the weapon set and bought it off the TP would then be able to craft the weapons themselves. I think the geode requirement for recipes would offset that, but in case that is not enough, then maybe the ability to craft weapons that are not account bound could then be tied to identified fossils somehow. That way it signifies the adventure aspect of searching for something, becoming an expert, and then using that “knowledge” to do something with it.

Of course, this model could then be applied to other collections for those “artisans” who have completed the rigorous requirements of their craft and then utilize it for other means so that it is not pointless anymore.

TL/DR: After a player has crafted the entire Ambrite weapon collection, make it so that any additional weapons they craft are not account bound and can be sold on TP. This opens up new niches for the player, gives a reason for vets to still go to Dry Top helping new players, choose the PvP reward track, profit, and adds to the endgame.

How can you tell when someone is hacking?

in PvP

Posted by: Kythan Myr.4719

Kythan Myr.4719

I play a lot of PvP, so I’ve seen a lot of classes/builds and all the things they can do. I’ve leveled each class to 80 (before the “wonderful” NPE stuff) so I have a basic understanding of each profession and what they can do. Every now and then I play with or against players that just seem different, like things don’t seem quite right.

For example, there was an engi tonight that seemed just a little too fast. She was hard to track and buzzed around the point and it felt almost impossible to hit her. She wasn’t turret engi so I can’t be sure. I’m not familiar with every build, rune, sigil combo out there. Maybe players use builds I’m not aware of so I give them the benefit of the doubt. But there is still that twinge of doubt in my stomach that things didn’t seem quite right.

So if/when someone speed hacks how can you be certain, especially if they are using it to gain a bit more than speed than usual? I’ve seen the cases when they are like the Flash across the map and those are obvious, but what about the times they’re just a bit faster and it’s hard to tell? During those times, maybe the player is just using something you are not familiar with and what they are doing is legit, but you are just that bad of a player.

How often do you find the hacker out there in PvP? I mean, is it really that common? I hear about it a lot, but sometimes I thing it just players raging. I’ve heard teammates swear that someone else is doing it and for everyone to report, but again, sometimes it’s not so cut and dry. So how can you tell with certainty?

Here comes the "gear" treadmill.

Go play another MMO that becomes F2P in March while waiting for something that interests me.

Seriously tho, why go to all this effort is it not something huge. Big announcement is coming on Saturday with internet personalities after the show. I mean afterall, the Queen herself will be there. If Anet is really that stupid, I can only hear WP and MV now while they try to find the words after hearing something so disappointing and dismal.

Anet: “Well the wait is finally over! We know what you have been waiting for! We know you’ve been wanting an expansion after 2+ years, but we’ve got something even better!!! Announcing (drum roll) Living Story 3! entitled Heart of Thorns!!!”

WP: “Hmmmm…..”

MV: “Yeah?…..”

Which ore/lumber is your limiting factor?

Is there a particular ore/lumber type you find is always your limiting factor? Do you find yourself buying more of one material type than the others when crafting? Do you find it particularly difficult to find certain ore/lumber to gather? If so what is it?

I’m finding mine to be 2nd tier, iron ore and soft wood. Mostly due to ascended crafting. The reason being:
a. It takes 4 softwood logs to refine instead of the usual 3 (WTH is with that anyways!??)
b. I need iron for both steel and iron ingots.
c. I don’t spend that much time in 2nd tier regions. It does help that rich iron nodes are all over Tyria and they seem pretty reliable in location.

So I don’t know if my pain is typical or just from ignorance of the best acquisition methods. However, if Anet ever tweaks crafting requirements or increase gathering nodes, I would nominate these two as the ones needing the most love.

I suppose you could also mention a harvesting node, but those don’t seem to annoy me as much mostly because I only cook a few recipes from time to time. If ascended cooking ever becomes a thing than I suppose there would be more of an issue. For me right now I’m always low on vanilla beans mostly because when I harvest the nodes in Maguuma I get something other than vanilla beans.

So, what are your favorite resources needing a balance?

didn’t post link, I didn’t include the long text string after it. I took out some of the syntax to make sure it didn’t show as link, but like I said there was a rather long text string with symbols and letters after it, so what I did include should be fine.

Just a FYI or PSA.

I received an email today from someone claiming to be a GM saying my account will be shut down in the next 72 hours because of dependencies. I reported it as scamming, not sure what else to do. I took a screenie just in case. I knew it was bogus because of the gold text at the bottom saying it was sent from a player and not a member of the gw2 team. Here is a copy of the email I received below:

Account Will Be Shut Down

We are sorry to inform you that your login account (my name) will be shut down or partially limited within 72 hours due to currency transactions or abnormal login. If you want to remove restrictions, please click the following link to validate: http:account.guildwars2.com.and some rather long text string. Please keep in mind that Guild Wars 2 is a global game with hundreds of thousands of players. This means that standards of behavior must be upheld

GM and his name

Dunno if stuff like this has been around, but at first I panicked then I realized it wasn’t sent by the team. Thank you Anet for including that blip of the bottom of emails. and hopefully if any players receive this email they won’t ignore the gold text and follow the link.
