You benefit from the login reward that gives you luck?
I still find them useful. When i get to a second stack i will probably gett annoyed.
Yah, I’m only at 179/300 for Luck. I haven’t broke down and done the power salvage from ectos and ordering stacks of blues to salvage just seems boring. So, I just salvage what I get when I get and click through stacks of luck when I use my artificer to condense them.
How’d you power through your luck? How long did it take? Was it useful?
Seems to be an increase with the ToK piling up in my bank inventory. I have all my alts at 80 and don’t find them very useful. I keep them in case I level more alts, which I won’t until the new and improved trait system is more forgiving than its current form. Now I know that with new players coming to the game, they might find the ToK useful, but I’m just curious the general consensus.
The ToK are about the only reward with the new login system that I don’t benefit from. Maybe it would be better for them to be traded for those players that would use them? Suppose I could use them for skill points and turn them into gold.
Well hindsight is always 20/20. Like I said I didn’t realize that I even had the LS active. I know I should have checked, I know should have done this or that, but sometimes mistakes happen. If it’s intentional design by the devs then I would request some warning feature to remind us idiots who forget to check. Lord knows they have enough warnings/reminders for us already in game, why not another one?
I posted this in the general discussion and was encouraged to post it here because it may not be intentional design and therefore a bug. If it is not a bug and indeed intentional, then it would be nice to have a big warning to do so, because one cannot change story modes while in a dungeon.
o I’m not 100% sure what I did wrong, but I have an idea. For the first time since beta, I decided to finish my personal story because I just happened to see a party in LFG with 4/5 people for story. So I quickly switched to my main and jumped in. However my main was working on LS2 achievements and I forgot to quit the episode. I didn’t even realize that it was still active.
The party was already in the dungeon after the 1st cut scene. I was not the initiator and didn’t have ownership of the dungeon. After a surprisingly easy but long hour we finally killed the bugger. The thing I was putting off since launch was finally finished. I got the achievement for discovering all dungeons and unlocked the reward track for Arah, but no savior achievement.
So was the thing I did wrong was not quitting the LS2 episode and activating my personal story? If so, that can cause problems for those who don’t realize or forget which is active because you can’t change story modes while in an instance. So the moment I entered the dungeon and realized I didn’t have it active, I’d have to sheepishly say, “guys can we go back, I forgot something” No one would like to hear that.
The other things that crossed my mind was: I was not the dungeon owner – which wouldn’t make sense because only one member out of a party of 5 would get credit. Another was that they were already in the dungeon when I joined – which doesn’t make sense either.
Just logged back in and ran over to fort trinity. Nothing. Green starburst stays over dungeon.
No, when I realized that my LS2 was still active I switched to my PS when I could and it still said “Victory or Death” – Kill Zhaitan. Maybe I still can, where am I supposed to go if my story tracker still says to kill the dragon. I did hang out and talk to the NPC’s on board the ship but nobody said anything about a celebration. Other than that there were fireworks going off. The rest of my party by that time had left the dungeon and I hadn’t seen them gone anywhere.
Hmmm a merged thread about expansion. It has the potential now of not getting buried which could be a good sign? Maybe a bad sign because the forum won’t be littered anymore with random expansion predictions? Perhaps, just realistic, because they just needed to merge so many threads?

I agree with the OP. Perfect list.
I know, isn’t ironic that the first feature patch was mostly a step towards less restrictions and greater freedom (except for the traits). While the second one was a step in the other direction with more locks, restrictions, and time-gates.
Like yin and yang.
Well another year done and I was thinking about what the developers of 2014 have brought the GW2 community. I thought of some basic things, but the more I keep thinking about the more the list grows. In the spirit of things, I’ll start, but it is by no means exhaustive, I’m sure that after I’m done I will think of more things to add.
1. So, what do you think was good this year? What did the devs do “right”? Things that you’d like to see more of.
2. What was bad this year. Maybe it’s good for the grand scheme of things, maybe it doesn’t really apply to you, but perhaps it’s good for something else.
3. What did you find ugly this year. This is something that you just don’t find good for anyone. “Like what the heck were they thinking when they did this?” sort of thing.
The Good
- Two new maps
- Improved Living Story ( not perfect, but better than the 1st season)
- SW mechanics
- Account binding of:
*dyes
*wardrobe
*legendaries
*ascended gear
*WXP - PvP Reward Tracks
- Free Repair Armor and Free refunding of traits and it’s on demand too!
- Battle for LA (and the corresponding and permanent map change)
- (Fill-in-the-blank) Tron
- UI changes to inventory especially with salvaging!
The Bad
- LS 2 Time schedule. Started in July with 2 long breaks in between so far.
- Megaservers
- Empty WvW (at least for me)
- This new trend of Outfits
- The new dailies (4th ver)
- Drama from this new trend of working on things not really broken, but instead they are “improving” them and for the most part just causing community unhappiness. Don’t get me wrong there have been some good out of it, but man there’s been a lot of it and the corresponding drama this year!
The Ugly
- New trait system (Just allow us to do it once and it’ll be better)
- Most (if not all) NPE Including:
* Locking of skills by level
* Locking of Personal story by level
* Re-organizing Personal Story and eliminating some content
* Locking out of things previously accessible in general - Ironically, new players playing through their personal story do not find themselves in the Pre-destroyed LA map and are confused about WTH is going on.
- New players coming can’t play Season1 and are even more confused
- Unhappy Veteran players
- Bringing in new content (Collections) that are crippled by bugs. Some bugs have been here since launch and still not fixed, but new stuff is dependent on xyz event working, but doesn’t because of bug and . . . /sigh
Bottom line for me: first half of year tons better than last half. But this last half scares me. I hope they don’t continue to fix what’s not broken, in turn making more issues and to only fix what IS broken.
remember paragon armor in gw1…hard not to /vomit….never forget
Not at all, but if that is how you feel about it I will not be looking that up anytime soon.
Male paragon armor always had a knee-length skirt and a midriff-exposing top…it was kind of odd. The class armor was definitely Roman-inspired, but it just looked silly.
Let’s not forget the gold plated nipples of the Sunspear and Elite Sunspear version.
I have noticed a big shift in their choice of design this year. It feels as if they are moving the opposite direction from the one they originally started out on. As a scientist, I have to wonder why. I wonder what lead to these choices and what is the primary driving force behind them. It would be nice to know, but that is something we will probably never know.
I would love to be a fly on the wall so to speak, during one of their meetings and hear about their reasoning, justification and evaluation of these decisions. That is something I always wonder about, and for some reason it feels such a mystery with Anet. Other producers/developers I’ve followed I always felt more informed about where things are going, or reasons for decisions. Not so here.
A: The world of Tyria will still go on, but perhaps with more disappointed and grumbly players.
So any official word yet (after 3452 replies) about if they are adjusting or not adjusting this silly trait thing. I’ve tried playing a new alt and it’s painful to have go and learn all these traits AGAIN!.
If there was even the slightest hint that they would make trait unlocks a one time thing across the account, I’d hold off leveing my new Charr Ele and wait. Until then, I can’t bring myself to do it.
I’m not so much for the human male here, but c’mon how about Charr ummm. . . “manliness” (if that’s the right word for a charr?) After seeing so many Charr in GW1 wearing all those skimply outfits, I gotta say they kind of look like kitty cats dressed up to play now. So if Anet does design more manliness outfits for the medium class, I would have to think the Charr would win also. (and possibly the Norn)
The only way I can respond to the start of your post is to single out specific people and quote their opinions so as to prove there is definitely some hypocrisy going on. I don’t want to do that because singling out people never ends well.
About the separation of rewards, I disagree that it’s a good thing. The previous system got people playing for their reward, be it laurels or AP. The only problem with them was apparently that some obsessive players needed to be protected from themselves because they felt “forced” to do 12 dailies.
I feel a far better result might’ve been accomplished by mostly keeping what we had before, just changing to the ‘gain max AP for doing x achievements’ that we have now, and perhaps adding some more possible tasks to the mix instead of stripping most of them and leaving us with stupid pet tricks.
I agree with this regarding the new daily system. For me it’s kinda a love/hate thing. I love the fact that by logging in I get rewards. That’s much easier than before and I can understand why they went with this system. I have no complaints here.
What I do have a complaint with is the specific dailies that we are now asked to do. Sure they are much simpler, but now I have do something different during my brief window of play than I would have done with the previous daily system.
Now I know that I am not forced to do these things and that is my choice which is true, which by just admitting kinda prevents me from complaining. However, when you played with the previous system so long and it much better accommodated you have to feel a sense of frustration. Since the beginning of the 3 iteration of the daily system I could just log on, do what I want and achieve 5 dailies without going out of my way to somewhere I did not intend to do. Now, that is what I feel like I am asked to do. Which is bothersome to me.
TL:DR Bottom line for me. I love the log on rewards, hate the daily achieves. If they would have kept the previous daily achieves or added more that were similar to the previous design it would have stayed more true to the spirit of “Play How You Want”
At least to me.
As someone new to PvP what exactly was SoloQ and how is it different now, why was it taken away? I’ve played Practice and Unranked so does this have something to do wiht Ranked?
Thanks!
It’s gone from an open and free feeling to a locked and scheduled feeling.
This is brilliantly said and just what I feel but didn’t know how to word it.
I miss the game I loved so much.
Agreed, topics like these need more attention especially in the world outside of GW2. I think it is important for the MMO world to know and realize how much has changed from their much publicized manifestos. Maybe all these changes are for the good and better and I’m just in the unhappy minority. After reading threads like these with pages of the same feelings I have, you gotta wonder if something is wrong.
Bottom line. I know that all these changes this past year were to address concerns and retain new players. I would love to ask them “How’d that work out for you?” Maybe an honest look at their numbers and they could say things are much better now. That would be positive and make these changes well worth it. Still, I’d like to know what these changes did to retain veteran players.
+1
Amen, and Bravo OP! It could not have been said better, I hope that this is something the devs and managers talk about when they think back to the changes they’ve made this past year.
It’s gone from an open and free feeling to a locked and scheduled feeling.
gotta love how they’ve evolved in such a short time.
The ironic thing is that the removal of “play the way you want” was because of the “confusion” it created for new players causing them to leave. For those of us who operated well under that mentality and stayed to enjoy the game got a big fat boot in the kitten , when they implemented these changes.
Nothing new here, but it would be nice for a change. Still think the best solution, but yet the hardest to implement is changing NPC AI. However it would go against their casual and easy to play game philosophy. So IoW never ever expect them to change this. Their target audience has, is and will always be the casual player base. Requiring a trinity or any other specialized roles would just make things too hard for their intended audience.
Don’t forget all accounts get free ectos when the crafting exotic daily is available. Well it’s only really free if you craft luck for the daily. If they nerf anything ecto related, I would suppose this would get it to.
How should we fix that daily?
if their goal is to get people to play other classes then a daily like “win a matches with 3 different classes” would create the variety without encouraging the class stacking.
Nice! This is what I want to get out of a thread like this. Something that ANet is more likely to implement.
- Daily: win 3 games with 3 different classes.
Please help us get the attention of some one from ANet. It will help us have a much better matchmaking
Which is why the previous PvP dailies were just better than these. Sure there weren’t as many, but you could just play the way you wanted to instead of figuring which alt you were going to dust off and suck at for today.
What about bunker guards?
The turrets aren’t always on point.
Yes this happened exactly today. In LoF an engi dropped rifle and rocket turrets on ledge adjacent to point. Then crate on point. Don’t know if there were any other turrets.
As a bunker guard I don’t have much range but in the end I held the point long enough for back up to arrive. It was a long but fun fight. I think he had bomb or traited for bomb on dodge because every know and then I’d get blown off the point.
I just wasn’t sure if I should have left point to take down those harassing turrets. I just ignored them and took down the other ones on point first, then player. Like I said the strategy worked well enough until backup came, but it made me more interested in playing an engi too.
So OP against newbies, but not OP against advanced players? Any strategies/guides for dealing with them other than the basic dodging out of red circles? Like prioritizing turrets over players. Good to know if I plan on going this route to know how play it well.
Kinda new to this celestial thing, Which professions benefit from it? All?
I mentioned this on day of patch and it got moved to general discussion. Hope this stays here, because on the first day of the patch I got to know what it feels like to go against a team of 4 guards and 1 necro in deathmatch. Don’t think that’s what they had in mind for balance either.
Just started really getting into sPvP. Wish I had earlier. I’ve noticed lots of map chats in lobby wanting to build 5 man turret teams. Also, I’ve been stomped by plenty of turret engis especially by elite crate and so forth.
So are they considered a good class for beginners? Kinda like how Guardians are considered easy-mode for PvE (don’t know if that’s really true – just floated around lots of times in map chat). Are turret engies a bit OP and likely to be nerfed?
Just curious on the meta because I’m really going to be spending some time in sPvP and reward tracks, so maybe I should ditch my bunker guard and go for engi?
I can’t echo this enough Anet. I’m embarrased to admit this, but during GW1, I went through two mice because the left button failed after clicking so much while opening gifts during Wintersday. It hasn’t been a problem this time because I have a better mouse (Razer).
I almost afraid to mention this, but can’t we use a one button – do only one thing – macro? It can only do one task and one task only, once a second key press is included the macro becomes potentially bannable. Pretty sure this is discussed somewhere on these forums.
All this is true. It is about getting us out of our comfort zones and all, but matches are now really unbalanced. Today some matches had only guards or necros on both sides. Sounds fun at first, but this trend will continue through the entire window until the next class come into focus. That, to me is the biggest problem with these new dailies for sPvP.
Now I know what’s it like to go against a team that has 4 guards and 1 necro. Yay!!! Block-Block-Block-Miss-Miss-Invulnerable-Invulnerable-Block, eh? WTH, WHAT’S WITH ALL THESE CONDITONS! Thank you so much for this new feature. So much for balance, but hey at least things are very interesting now. /sigh
Laurels-
Will be awarded in the DAILY LOGIN CHEST which resets everyday at the daily reset time. As well as a bonus reward that used to be a possible random reward from dailies/monthlies. The login rewards will also rotate on a 28 day cycle..
Well as far as Laurels are concerned. I got my first log on chest and got 2 Mystic coins. No Laurels. Maybe they’re bundled later? Still if it is like 10 after 12 days of playing that’s not more rewards that’s less.
My biggest complaint is all the bouncing back and forth I have to do now. Before I could just log on and play in SW or PvP or lvl an alt AND NOT HAVE TO TRY to do dailies. Now I find myself logging in on my thief for PvP reward then my engi, now my guard. Now I find myself going to magumma for harvesting or Kryta. Now I go to Ascalon for some quick vista then WP back. Get the point? That’s just ridiculous to me. Before you could just play the way you wanted to and the dailies would come naturally. Now I have to scan and find which don’t apply to me and which ones that do and then hunt them out.
For example, I’m not fractal level 11-20 (today’s daily), so I have to find which ones DO apply. Never before, did I have to do that. I could just log on and play and lo and behold the dailies would come naturally. I never even bothered most days to see what they were, I just played the game.
If the old system wasn’t broke, then why fix it?
I’m mixed. I haven’t decided and probably won’t until more time goes on and I can see the log on rewards etc. . .
I do miss the old system but look forward to the new. Logging on today, I felt like I couldn’t keep playing the way I want. I haven’t been to QD or done Jungle Wurm for ages because I’ve been either in SW, or PvP with my Guard. From those two things I could just play the game how I want to play it and ignore all those other things going on today.
Today, I had to put those things on hold and go hunting for events in QD, or check the timer for the wurm and found out that I missed it twice so far. It’s not that big of a deal because it’s only 3. So I’m not whining, it’s just different than what I’ve been doing for awhile. I felt like I had less of a choice and had to try new things – which isn’t so bad. But there’s little choice and that part is what bugged me the most.
I’ve playing PvP on my Guard. Sure I could play a thief or engi, but I don’t want to so I opted to not do those two achievements. Lately I could get my daily out of the way just after 3 matches of PvP and not have to worry about the class I was playing or how many times I dodged or revived. I could just play and do the daily without really trying to do the daily. That was nice.
Now I have to choose to sacrifice what little time I have to pursue something out of my way or just play the way I want. Seems like the old system fit better by allowing those two things to exist simultaneously.
So, in the end. I’m still mixed. Let’s see more of those dailies come through and then I’ll have a better opinion. However, who here likes this new version and why?
Anyway to include a screenshot, OP, of the new reward track? Some of us won’t be able to see it for another 6 hours
I don’t understand… the 1st revamp of the daily had too few choices, so the 2nd revamp of the daily added more choices, now the 3rd revamp of the daily removed those choices…
First off… Why do you keep wasting development time revamping the daily? this is literally the 4th iteration of it.
Secondly… why are we reverting to having no choices? that was what you tried to solve with the last revamp…
Can’t wait for the 5th iteration. I would love to be a fly on the wall in one of their development meetings to hear the rational for these things.
What title says. I’m not able to see yet, but really curious. Here’s what we should be getting after 28 days of straight playing combined with monthly. Hope my math is correct. So are we still getting this or not?
• 22,800 Karma
• 48 Mystic Coins
• 38 Laurels
• 1900 Luck pts
• 1 Gold 90 Silver
• 180 – 436 Achievement Points depending on how many you complete.
• Plus a daily but rare chance at something from the TP
• Lots of experience pts (5% of lvl/day)
Any idea yet if about still the same or too early to tell?
There’s been an AFK ranger in SW exploiting the mechanics of their pet to farm events, or so I think. Somehow the player has been there all day (6+ hours) and not moved once, but they don’t seem to be auto logged out. Other players report the same player there yesterday too, afk in the same spot. So somehow the player is avoiding the auto log out. So would that be a bot report? Not sure. Also, not sure how they would benefit doing that because the loot eventually times out and fades away doesn’kitten Very confusing.
I have mixed feelings about the new system. While it sounds great, it remains to be seen what will be the rewards, and what will be left out. This is change number four, I believe, and while it offers more rewards will it be better than what we have now, or just a candy coating for what’s a nerf?
For me I will be happy with anything they give, but let’s look currently what you get after 28 days of straight playing including both dailies and monthly. Provided you are a lvl 80 and get every achievement and if my math is good you can currently get
• 22,800 Karma
• 48 Mystic Coins
• 38 Laurels
• 1900 Luck pts
• 1 Gold 90 Silver
• 180 – 436 Achievement Points depending on how many you complete.
• Plus a daily but rare chance at something from the TP
• Lots of experience pts (5% of lvl/day)
So if after 28 days with the new system if we get anything less than the above it could technically be considered a nerf. Depending of the amount of change will give us an idea of the severity. Maybe the new rewards will outweigh any change. I hope it’s not 2 blues and 1 green tho.
I may have done my math wrong and please feel free to double check it for me. I’m a bit apprehensive going out on a limb with these as certainty. Honestly, I’m excited to see the new changes, but also a little concerned that it will be less substantial than what we have currently.
Personally, I’d like to see more challenging challenges. I remember back with GW1 when I was a new player in the later stages of the game enjoying those daily challenges. Sometimes that would be the only time I could find help with a dungeon and finish it. It was easy to find a party. I’m sure that with GW2, there is plenty of PvE content that newer players would appreciate assistance with and give veteran players an excuse to revisit those and assist if needed.
Suppose we’ll see what the fifth change will be.
Those of you reporting issues with other content concerns in this thread: Please report issues and bugs in the game. I cannot tell you how much an in-game report helps us, because that kind of report provides a lot of back-end information that makes it possible to replicate the bug, where posting on a forum does not give the devs the same level of detail.
If you cannot report in the game, please post on the Bugs Forum with as many details as you can provide. If you have done so, thank you. And here’s a tip: It’s best to have separate threads for bugs, and not tag new bug reports on a thread about a different issue. Thanks for understanding.
Thanks for the fixes. Regarding other bugs, I have reported via the i games bug report option many, many, many times. I can’t speak for others, but after spending just a little time on the forums I think it’s safe to say I’m not the only one. Again some of these bugs have been around since launch and they still block progress to a minor extent.
If I report one bug, is once enough, or should I be a nagging Nelly? If not what is exactly the expectation you guys have for us players who are waiting for a fix?
In case you didn’t read the above posts, this is regarding events for the Ancient Stone Summit Shoulder Spike, and Ogre Wars, and Dredge Commissar. I know you say bugs reporting is invaluable, but for some bugs there’s been no real follow through.
(edited by Kythan Myr.4719)
I know about the specified extraction thingy and that part doesn’t bother me so much. As long as they continue to do that and don’t make the extractor hard/expensive to get. Just need to be patient. The worrysome part is The 10,000 bandit crests I’d have to farm if they continue to do things the same way for the next patches. I don’t believe they will, but it’s a concern.
Just to add to the broken collection list. While not directly a bug related to a collection unlocking it is a bug that blocks progress of the collection. It’s the Ancient Stone Summit Shoulder Spike via the vendor that appears after the Protect krewe leader Dobbs as the krewe clears the excavation site Event. I submitted a bug report and left something on the forums. It’s a well documented bug on the wiki with an odd work around of trying to complete the event after a patch. If you were unlucky enough to miss it then, you have to wait until next update. Not cool
I’ve submitted bug reports about this as well, and still it’s as broken as ever. It’s the same with the Dredge Commisar and Ogre Wars chains.
I’ve discovered the best time to get this quest going is immediately after a server reset. Everything goes back to ‘situation normal’ for about half a day if you’re lucky, and then it bugs out again.
For me, this is the best time to get it done; it’s how I got mine done.
I know it’s probably disrespectful and rude, but you see Gaile, this is just one reason why it’s just plain frustrating to play this game sometimes. Some of these issues go way back before collections were a thing. So why was new content implemented before addressing the buggy foundation they were built on? Are we expected just to deal with and wait until a bug is finally fixed? Is this what you guys think of us players? I mean, c’mon some of these bugs have been around since the game launched and they’re STILL an issue, and you guys wonder why we lose faith.

So after about a week of grinding for the new spiffy luminescent glove skin, I’m officially burned out with the whole SW map. Not complaining about the map, I originally loved the new map and it’s new mechanics. Like a new song that’s fresh and awesome it gets overplayed until the point that’s nauseous. That’s about how I feel about the new map.
Why? Well probably due to design I got on the “gotta-complete-the-set” train because I got the shoulders skin so easily. This is probably all due to original Anet design, but it’s getting kinda crazy. I’ve played every day since last patch for about an hour doing just SW. I’ve killed numerous breach bosses and got an extracted part but no fangs. I’ve farmed many crests and have enough to but at least one more glove box, but I’m holding off until I have the rest of the collection in case I get another via the Labyrinth.
I originally thought the SW events would go quicker and have more breach boss spawns, but it seems I’m not the only one getting burned out because more fortresses are being lost to the Mordrem.
Now I’m grateful for new content and new armor skins that aren’t TP and I’m not trying to sound jaded about it. But with the trend being set this patch acquiring the next 4 of the set feels hellish and not very player-friendly. I hope that Anet rethinks some of the plans and makes things a bit more streamline (yeah, wishful thinking) I’m not looking forward to kill countless breach bosses to get whatever the 6th extracted Mordrem part is. Guess I gotta learn a lot more patience.
Right now we’re sort of splitting out things you can “spend” between three different places: Your inventory, your bank, and your wallet.
At its core, we need to decide on one of these to compliment your inventory and call it good. As we’re continuing to introduce more items like the geodes and bandit “hello my name is” crests, this has obviously become even more of an issue
Ultimately, we either need to let you spend materials from your bank directly at vendors so you don’t need to keep them in your inventory (and then make geodes/crests materials) OR continue to make the wallet larger and larger. Or option #3 we haven’t considered yet you might think of in this suggestion forum!
Either way, we’re aware of the need and will address it “when it’s ready™”.
This seems rather short sighted to me and worrisome. What I don’t understand is that when the wallet was first designed was it not understood that additional currencies would eventually be added? If anything the history of both GW1 and GW2 supports this.
If you could guess with reasonable certainty that new currencies would eventually be added, why then not make it more dynamic and flexible? Seems sensible to take into account and to take steps to make these changes as the game matures. Much like the collections in the bank. When we had new things to deposit into bank there would be a new slot added. However, if when you first designed the wallet you thought this will be good enough for the lifespan of the game that is a worry.
An expansion.
I’m happy with new, two week content. Honestly, I’ve been going back and forth on liking LS over expansion. If implemented well, I’d like LS to be next medium of expansions. After “Echos of the Past” it feels that they are on the right track so to speak. Then after the briefness that was Tangled it shows how much the LS doesn’t cut it.
Let’s face facts, or at least what makes sense to me. Developing this stuff takes time, hence the reason for the looooong break during LS2. EoP demonstrated that time devoted to developing can really bring a lot of content. We had a 3 new maps, new dialogue, new items, new enemies, and best of all fleshed out and relevant lore.
Now I know that they didn’t spend only two weeks developing Tangled, and that it was in the pipeline long before, but it really feels that EoP was their best foot forward. If that’s the case, then I would expect the following episodes to be as brief. And that to me shows why an expansion is necessary. After a long break midway through LS 2 and the amount of content released overall, I for one wouldn’t mind waiting a year for a true expansion. That’s a little disappointing for me because I really like the idea of Living Stories.
I know. That’s what my question was originally about. Why does the dev team set things up from the beginning to cause drama?
Never said I wasn’t enjoying the game it is right now. Was just pointing out the drama it was creating and how it’s unintended and potentially toxic to the community. Remember coil? I’m not thinking about myself, here, I’m actually one of those people who care about this game and it’s impact on the community not just myself. Otherwise I would have left it and moved onto something else a loong time ago.
It’s a drama we’ve seen oh, so many times. Will the devs ever learn?
So, I logged in and went to Silverwastes to work on AP and titles. Everything is going fine at first until I make it to Amber. I was surprised to see so many people there in one spot. There were banners and a bonfire, so I knew that there was something here that was good, but I didn’t know just what it was. . . yet. The chests. I still don’t quite understand their mechanic on how they spawn, but they’re everywhere. Why here? I still don’t know, maybe there’s big clumps of them other places, just not discovered yet. Well I had a bunch of keys, so I’ll jump in and get some too, I’m just not going to spend hours here like everyone else is.
Then it happened. Defense phase hit and someone calls out in map chat, “Blue needs help”. Silence for awhile, then again “Is anyone coming?” Silence again, then “Why am I the only one here at Blue?” Finally someone replies, “Why don’t you join us at Amber, we’re all here”. Then the guy at Blue states the obvious “Isn’t that what we are not supposed to be doing?” referring to us being all gathered at one fort.
So there it was, letting certain events fail so you could benefit in other places. How many times has this happened before and it keeps repeating itself? Now one of two things will happen to this chest farm based on Anet’s history of these things. 1. There will be a slight nerf to chests, but ultimately inconsequential. 2. A big nerf that causes players to completely abandon the map. My bet is on number one. What’s sad is that’s obvious something will be done soon, and it’s not even a week old yet.
So do the devs truly not understand that if we players are given a choice of events or loot that we will always choose loot. Loot seems to be the one thing we are all drawn too in this game or any other games. We like those rewards, it keeps us going!. So then my not amp up the rewards for defense? Those events are a lot of work and the rewards aren’t that much better – again this is a pattern we are oh so familiar with. If it was worth the time and effort to do these events we would spend the time doing what the map was designed for rather than focusing on a unintentional side effect of bandit chests. This can also be said for all those things in dungeons, fractals, WvW and other PvE things we just skip rather than fulfilling the original design.
It’s been over two years and it seems that they are still not learning from the mistakes of the past.

This zerker thing saddens me greatly. It encourages less diversity of game play and builds. With all this variety of new stats and new ones coming out (like Sinister’s) it makes me wonder why Anet devotes time to making new stat combos. I like the simplified game play GW2 brings for casual players, but I’d also don’t mind some thinking and creativity which is what PvE doesn’t even come close to requiring – at least most of the time.
Remove berserker. Remove assassin’s. Remove rampagers.
Everyone moves to the next best set of DPS gear.
How does a stat combination “encourage less diversity” when there would be the exact same amount of diversity if you removed it, and any similar to it?
And why do people throw around this “diversity” buzz word like it’s some sort of holy grail? What if diversity involves a playstyle you don’t like? What if, like in the case of GW2, we have a broad range of builds but they’re all support and DPS centric? It’s diverse but you simply don’t like the diversity offered to you.
You’re not asking for diversity at all, it’s just a buzzword to thinly veil the fact that you wish your playstyle was optimal.
I have no play style I wish to push around. There is no veiled attempt here, no hidden agenda by me. I’m sorry if I offend you when I say I wish there was no diversity and seem ignorant of what the word means.
I play like the rest, full zerk gear and I carry around PVT for certain occasions. I’m a big fan of others playing the way they want and I hope that they do. There is no push from me here that you seem to think there is. I never implied for them to remove zerkers, I just wish that there were optimal builds for different roles utilizing the diverse stat types we have in this game.
Diversity. It’s not a buzz word. It’s a real thing lacking in GW2. I remember starting GW1 and spending time, – too much time – theory crafting builds and browsing GWPvX for all the cool ideas that people had. All the various combinations that allowed for diverse rolls to be filled. There were optimal builds on that site too, but optimal builds for diverse roles. You could contribute to your party in several different ways that evolved throughout the years, you were not just limited to DPS. Then, there was much diversity of builds.
Now I know that GW2 does not promote the same skill structure or secondary class mechanics of its predecessor, but we have similar potential in traits and gear combinations. However, check out GW2’s equivalent site of GWPvX: Metabattle. I know it’s recent, but it’s filled out nicely. If you look at most of the builds for profession they all utilize zerker gear and stats. That’s it for PvE mostly (other than world bosses). For the classes under dungeons there’s little regard for anything else. If you were a new player and had no idea what was best or what to do and happened to find that site you would quickly gear for zerkers because you want to be “optimal” too. This is unfortunate for me because I TOO want other players to feel like they can play the way they want, according to THEIR playstyle, not mine or the meta.
