I think we should be able to play with who we want when we want. The people who enjoy the open world content as is could simply set up an instanced raid for anyone and proceed as soon as it fills. But right now there’s no easy option to be able to surround yourself with like-minded people who want to perform at a high level and put in a lot of effort to complete the event. Most of the people I encounter just want to bring ranged weapons and spam 1111 to complete the content, mainly on overflows.

Right now the solution is to camp on Deso main for 1.5-2 hours before the wurm spawns and go AFK. Great. Not my kind of game.

Actually you might not lose overall DPS. They said that the ferocity change would help alleviate problems with critical damage downscaling (where you have like 7% in AC).

Hmmmm… so does YOUR personal enjoyment (ensuring everyone meets YOUR requirements) outweigh the personal enjoyment of the new player who wants to try the new content because they think it might be fun to feel like a part of the big open world they paid to use just as much as you did? You are implying that more experienced players deserve more enjoyment, are you not?

I left my computer on in Lornar’s Pass on Deso main when I went to bed last night to see what would happen. I got the reward chest for completing the entire event without doing anything and going AFK. That brought me a HUGE amount of enjoyment getting free loot. Since the other people’s enjoyment don’t outweigh mine, people shouldn’t be criticizing me for going AFK and getting free loot, right?

Yeah people can die due to missing a dodge, getting hit by a red circle or something. However, I think everyone should take a bit of self-responsibility and at least read up on the new events on dulfy or reddit or on the forums here to familiarize themselves with what to do because other people are depending upon you to succeed (obviously this isn’t the case the first day when no info is available but it’s already been quite a while). I also think people should be responsible and use DPS specs instead of play how you want builds. I also think not bringing level 80’s with at least exotic gear is irresponsible unless you don’t have a level 80 yet. In short, while people might not be good at dodging or rotations or whatever they should at least have the responsibility to do basic preparation before the fight.

I don’t think name calling gets anyone anywhere. But I think that some criticisms towards people that are responsible for failing the world event are justified.

Just had a full deso overflow fail at killing Warden #3 FOUR times in a row. The fight might be well designed but finding a large number of people with a brain to complete the event can be difficult.

Positive:
- Fighting champs during phase 2 is pretty fun but it’s like 2 minutes out of a 2 hour cycle, so not so fun after all?

Negative:
- Overflows
- Waiting 2 hours to get an actual kill
- Spamming auto attack for defense event is boring
- Random distribution of players on phase 2 platforms
- Camera on platforms
- People who go into phase 2 platforms with zero idea what to do with poor dps specs

You guys do realize as long as YOUR platform completed it and YOU do not get hit by the attack for the entire duration YOU are on the platform you get the achievement right? I got the “Avoid the lightning attack!” Achievement and my platform was the only group competent enough to attack the boss from behind….

Please do not spread misinformation like this on the forums. As previously stated, marionette does not even use the lightning attack for that warden.

Thank you Anthony for the professional response. Many people here are just confused by what Bill meant by the mere existence of the consumables being a “blatant bug,”, which didn’t make much sense to many (including me).

I’m curious, it didn’t seem like there was a severe performance issue when using embers in dungeons with a small group compared to large scale events like Tequatl. Is there actually a severe performance impact in both of these cases, or was this change targeted at reducing lag for the large scale events instead? I ask because the large scale events have relatively long timers in between spawns, so the nerf doesn’t really affect them as much as it does running consecutive dungeons, or so I would think.

Small update: to get credit for the “Marionette Deregulator” Achievement, you not only have to defeat the power regulator warden on your platform, your entire group must succeed at breaking the current chain.

If there was less lag, people with more brains, dodging actually required, ranging punished and more risky and other skills needed than just auto attack then I might start to enjoy it. But even then probably not, because I can’t see anything with 50 people on my screen anyway.

Well, the Giant Wurms are immune to crits and the “prepwork” for the three wurms that you need to do before you can damage them require little to no DPS at all. Which doesn’t really promote berserker. But the marionette definitely does.

In order to complete these achievements you have to succeed the Warden event (the entire event up on the platforms) without being hit by the Marionette. If you are hit, you don’t get it. If you fail the event, you don’t get it. Stay sharp and break that chain and you’ll have it.

The achievement description is grossly incorrect then. Never getting hit by the Marionette while you are doing the Warden event AND succeeding at breaking the chain is very different from simply dodging a Marionette attack once.

On top of this the Marionette Deregulator achievement is also bugged. I’ve successfully killed four out of five of the Wardens and destroyed the power core object thing but only have credit for one of them. Could you please explain how this achievement works too? Because I’m doing what the achievement says and not getting credit…

Really this is also not the first time getting an achievement is also bugged or vastly different from what its description is. I don’t mean to be rude but could you please try to work on making the descriptions both clear and accurate so we don’t waste our time?

I really cant understand how can a lot of people in this thread (and the game in general) fail to understand and accept that something is clearly broken in this game when the best possible setup for most of the content is 4xwarrior + guardian, or even 5x warrior all in glass cannon burst damage gear.

I would say it takes more player skill to dodge or block or position yourself than facetank something. I didn’t know that was such revolutionary thinking.

The first two points of the “what this is not” points of the OP are all incorrect for that reason. As to the third, making another set of gear more important than another one that has existed as the best for a long time is indeed punishing players. You act as if it’s okay because the balance will be to “correct” a mistake that should have been fixed long ago when there’s no mistake AND players shouldn’t have to pay for a mistake that Anet made in the first place.

Sword [PvE] : The auto attack root is incredibly jeopardizing and the long delay on #2 and #3 make them unsatisfactory as replacement dodges in many situations. Please consider changing for PvE. There is little to no upside to the root effect. Rarely any enemies will run away from you in PvE and if they are you can just run to them normally.

This is my biggest issue with ranger. There was a dev post earlier on the ranger thread where the dev said he thought he had an idea but then discussed with the team and they thought it was “interesting functionality” or to that effect. I’m sorry but maybe in PvP that could be the case, but there are no situations that I can think of endgame PvE where the rooting effect of the sword auto is more than a detriment to both yourself and your team (of course it is still good DPS but why is the root there?). You need to dodge in many end game areas if you want to stay alive and if you want to move you should be able to use the keyboard WASD. I can understand that certain skills can function this way – but not an autoattack! It’s a skill that needs to be able to DPS without putting yourself in some serious danger.

One way people currently deal with this is to either turn off auto attack or use a channeled skill to interrupt the auto chain, both of which are unwieldy and both of which still produce a delayed dodge because you have to finish the current sword attack if it’s on #2 or #3 in the chain (which will be maybe 0.2s) before you can actually start dodging.

Tanking gear actual does have better meaning than DPS gear if need more survivability to complete the content if you are bad. Go and watch Arah path 2 with zero dodges video, seriously. People who don’t want to have to dodge attacks can run tanky gear at the price of running paths a bit longer. I think that’s fair.

Active defense actually requires some level of skill reacting to enemy tells and the situation, passive defense relying on armor and heal button doesn’t require nearly as much, if anything at all.

Particle effects make it very difficult to read enemies. Two of the very worst offenders are blue burning and red burning particle effects. Just disabling these two would drastically improve my ability to read enemy tells instead of having to decipher their body within all the fire.

Please, Anet, I implore you to consider adding an option to at least disable these two effects if nothing else.

I also enjoy Snowball Mayhem but it is not balanced. I’m not sure if many people are aware but each profession gets a special skill in slot 6 on their skill bar that depends upon your profession.

Go check guardian skill and then warrior skill for example. Warrior skill rush is vastly overpowered in this game. I freely admit I abuse it as 90% of my games have been with warrior. The skill allows you to disarm somebody with the gift or cover long distances, making both capping and anti-capping extremely easy.

I enjoyed watching the video the first time. However when I went back to do the Nightmare End instance multiple times for the achievement it’s not very enjoyable to have to sit a few minutes through the same cinematic unable to do anything. I ended up just tabbing out my game or going AFK.

Please consider making a skip cinematic button for all videos in the future. This also partially refers to Twilight Arbor Aetherblade path, in which there was unskippable portions of dialogue that unnecessarily slowed down the dungeon run.

I do appreciate the work that it takes to create the cinematic, but I’d rather not have to spend a few minutes being forced to watch them before being able to complete content after I’ve already seen them multiple times. Thanks.

Vertical progression is fine with me. Ascended gear became a great disappointment because of how it was obtained. From now on I will discuss ascended weapons.

First you need laurels, a time-gated currency gathered by completing tasks with little innovation.

Second you need mats that can only be obtained in uninteresting ways, like mining, in low level areas. Prime example of this is soft wood logs.

I don’t mind the vision crystal requirements, though I would comment that it’s a shame that massive zergs trivialize Temple events.

Finally the ascended weapon boxes in fractals with fixed prefixes instead of fixed weapon types, which makes the chance of getting a usable ascended weapon astronomically low for PvE.

The fact that a level 10 toon chopping down a tree for 4 soft wood logs gains more progress towards an ascended weapon than the 60 dungeon tokens you get for completing a dungeon or the Pristine/Regular fractal relics you get at the end of jade maw made me kind of sad. I wish these end-game currencies had more value for BiS gear.
