In GW1 if there was ever a night in which I was running out of stuff to do, I’d change my secondary, and/or grab some more skills to play around with.
Then I’d hang out in temple of Balth Isle of the Nameless to experiment. Then it would be the next morning and I’d feel bad.I never had an issue in GW1 either. I always had a character somewhere in the process of working through a campaign. And there were almost always people looking for help that I could lend a hand to. And of course, I loved doing ‘old school’ FoW and UW runs. I sort of miss that here in GW2.
We need to start our own company and make a spiritual successor to it.
We’d probably get sued. But otherwise, I’m game.
Aren’t they making enough money?
Businesses are in business to make money Flesh, as such no, they are never making enough money. Besides, they have bills to pay, and just because they brought in (essentially) a one time chunk of funds, doesn’t mean that’s going to last. The gemstore is simply their ‘steady’ income stream.
They couldn’t have put added one of those sets of weapons as an mob drop or from chests from doing content? Not one glider from doing content?
I said essentially the same thing in my second paragraph. Some of what has gone into the store could have (should have) been directly in the game as rewards. 1 or 2 of the black lion sets. The soul river and exalted gliders. Armor is more difficult than an outfit, so I kind of understand, but I still expected more armor sets than what we presently have.
It’s just that….
It feels like all work and no play to get new armors and the new weapons/gliders are from the gems store. There’s none just handed to you except one set of basic looking weapons.
They couldn’t have made new green armors as a mob drop or buy with karma or crafted with the new ingredients? Added a nice set or two of green weapons from a mob drop or in the event chests or karma? They did add one set of weapons, true. But other than that it’s all a major grind to get. Very little are free, easy to get drops to sweeten the time while you’re working for the hard to get items.
What they’ve put in the expansion is too skimpy and behind too many walls. The ones that came after the expansion have a price tag.
You’re aware that I’m not disagreeing with you, yes?
Hiding a set behind the new karma vendor’s could have been fun, missing opportunity for them them. Though I suppose they could still do it.
Yeah. I know. I’m just complaining.
It really hit me today that they put out FOUR gemstore weapon sets in this month after the release (where it’s normally one a month) plus the gliders and all we got in game was one set of (ugly) makeshift weapons and no gliders. The release of new cosmetics is really unbalanced and weighed towards the gemstore. it’s grindy and/or costly to get any new skins in this cosmetic based expansion.
OK, just had to check.
Yeah, I understand. While I have no issue with them having glider skins in the store (and let’s face it, we all were pretty much in agreement months ago that they were something Anet could (and would) monetize and it wouldn’t be a huge deal), it would be nice to have a couple earnable via play. Sort of similar to how they introduced the hex outfit. Its only been a month though, so there’s nothing saying we won’t see such things added as rewards for game play. (Yes, I’m trying to stay positive, but sometimes its hard)

Lastly, any “power creep” classes are experiencing has come more from elite specializations and new gear stat combinations. None of it originated in ascended gear. Seriously, guys, the top guilds are clearing all of the bosses with minutes left before the timers run out. The ~2% gain from ascended armor and the ~8% gain from ascended weapons is nowhere near enough to lose you 1-2 minutes on the clock even if everyone is suffering that same loss. It’s 90% about the mechanical skill and awareness. You can train yourself and your friends to be better, and you can overcome the content.
I’m sorry Rising but Ascended started the power creep with just its original addition to the game. “How much” or “how little” is irrelevant. It was the initial introduction of the next level of power. Infusions add “a little bit more.” The statement was made that yes, ascended is the ‘last’ tier, but they fully intended to ‘continue a small power curve’ through stronger infusions. We have not yet see those, but that’s exactly what power creep is. Now we’re adding whole new gear stats like viper that also add to the power creep.
I’m not even looking at it from the elite spec perspective. That imbalance was entirely expected, and if Anet can achieve their (supposed) initial plans of making them ‘just another option’ as opposed to an ‘upgrade,’ then power creep there is a non-issue. That will just take time to sort out.
Aren’t they making enough money?

“You had someone help you to the goggles! You’re cheating!”
Let’s just completely discount the fact that it took me a dozen tries to achieve the jump…
But, by that same logic, leading a group through a dungeon is cheating too. Especially if you’re showing them the stack and smack, speed clear option.
Or gifting your guildie the mats he or she needs to make armor, or a weapon, cause that touches collection achievements as well.
Or… nah, I’ll just stop there.
Perhaps a better way of looking at this, Kraggy, is that PvE is intended to be cooperative. Not competitive. By helping each other out, we are achieving the intended goal of pve – social, cooperative play.

This topic? Again?! Seriously people, kill it. Kill it with fire.
(just don’t ask an ele for a fireball, cause it’s just really, really sad)
Ah…more solid reinforcement of why I hate people.
Let me grab some popcorn….
I don’t have an issue with the new outfits in the store. We know it is distinctly easier for them to design and push out outfits, and it’s obviously a solid source of income for them. Which is good.
I am disheartened that we did not get more in the way of armor and weapons skins achievable via game play. It would have been nice if 1 or 2 of the black lion weapon sets had been put into the game instead of into the shop. Rare drops for events, or rare drops that you only get a chance at if you complete a whole specific event chain. or…something.
I am hopeful that we will see more game play based skins filtered in when, perhaps, living world starts back up, or maybe as additional raid rewards, or new mastery achievement/collection tracks, or…yeah I could go on, but I’ll stop. You get my point. However, as hopeful as I am, I won’t hold my breath.
I can honestly say that I haven’t actually done much of anything with HoT as yet. Been to VB for a bit, done the initial mission to unlock masteries. Other than that, I’ve oddly found myself spending inordinate amounts of time in EotM (again). I think it took me about a week to get enough proofs to get HP on my necro to fully unlock reaper (omg so fun smashing into a zerg with her!) and now I’m working on the 40 or so more I need on my ele (and I have like 30 of them from 2-3 hours of play after Tuesday’s patch, woot). shrug who knew?
Mesmer is up next…then maybe guard? Or maybe another necro… choices, choices.
GW1…better balance? say what?
@Devious, you must have been playing a different game than I was. I remember quite well the uproar that was Sin and Rit at the beginning of Factions (and their subsequent fall from grace). And it was repeated again in Nightfall with Derv and Para being insanely OP. Sure they got nerfed into oblivion, and then slowly worked into a “better” place (except for Para), but it took time, and it’s never been truly balanced (and never will be now).
Unfortunately, GW2 continues this cycle. shrug with time, this too shall pass
sigh
the days of ‘red resign’ have returned with a vengeance. how very sad.
so much for match manipulation being against the rules. Dhuum, how I miss seeing you randomly pop up…
I did get a hand with this, this past weekend. Just been insanely busy with work and haven’t had a chance to update this.
Many, many, many thanks to that very patient mesmer who portalled my sorry bum like a dozen times for me to finally get the jump right.
Ah screw it, much <3 Stin. ^.^

That is amazingly disheartening xarallei. Really didn’t want to hear that. Though oddly, not surprised.
I am shocked that A-Net is is seemingly prioritizing PvP $$$ Tournaments over their loyal PvE player base who want their special effects kept in-tact. Is GW2 becoming League of Legends deluxe with PvE taking a backseat?
Did you play GW1 by chance? Or know anything about it? Would answer your own questions there.
A-Net really needs to go on the record about this special effects nerf. Is this temporary or are we supposed to just deal with it because this is what they have decided? Either way, I would like to have a straight yes or no answer instead of hanging in the air.
To be fair, players from all modes have asked (loudly) for the sparklies to be toned down a bit (read: lot). People often post pictures on here of the mass of shinies when trying to fight bosses, complaining they can’t even see them, and as such can’t see the tells that they need to dodge.

Poisoned…… Bacon? Oh my. Blasphemy has been committed!
I’d love to have this ability back. It was a real kick in the teeth last year when my guildies and I wanted to do it together.
Don’t have it handy, and it’s not in the top 10 pages. Too lazy to hunt further lol
We had a thread on QoL changes for bank tabs like a week or so ago. Nameable tabs were just one of many mentioned.
So…yet another thread to complain about the fact that the skin they desire is part of a bundle, and not available as a stand alone? Could we move these all into one thread? please?
Or as I lovingly call them – the not so secret pain in my kitten .
Anyway, this is the last jump I need in order to complete my Dive Master Achievement. I’ve tried this more times than I care to consider, but, being ‘platforming challenged’, have not been able to complete.
As such, are there any mesmers that might be (amazingly patient and) willing to give me a hand with this?
Many thanks, and much appreciated.
I don’t mind the bundles. I think they are fine. I do feel they should release the individual items (at their standard prices) as well, so people have their choice of what they desire.
I do think we’ll eventually see the Immortal Weapons for Black Lion tickets. We’ll probably also see the two outfits (for 700 gems each) eventually as well. It probably would have been better had they simply done both options at the same time though.

I’m not a huge fan of jumping puzzles (as I demonstrated weekend before last, when I broke a freaking mechanical keyboard in my frustration with one of the many jumping related achievements in LS2). But that doesn’t mean I desire Anet to stop making them, since some people do enjoy that sort of thing.
I’d just prefer if the platforming wasn’t quite so, uh…what’s the phrase I’m looking for here…oh right, not optional. I don’t mind some platforming, but I don’t precisely enjoy it being shoved down my throat with few to no alternatives.
Will you prepurchase next expansion?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189
Hmmm…would I purchase the next expansion? Would depend on what’s in it, but more than likely.
I mean, let’s look at GW1 as an example, I didn’t particularly care for Nightfall (though I know others loved it), but it didn’t put me off from purchasing EotN when it came around. I liked what I saw, so I bought it.
I apply the same general line of thought to GW2. If I like what I see in the ad, then I’ll spend the money. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. I know I’m not going to like everything, that’s just a given.
My buddy and I are yelling at each other right now – stress relief, I guess.
Nonetheless- thank you for looking up all the links for me =)
Not a problem.
Always happy to provide the info if I have it (or know where to find it).

OP, I understand your issue. I have a guildie that couldn’t use his character’s GW1 reserved name at launch. A character name he’d had for years, but due to the new filter, was no longer ‘appropriate.’ Despite the fact that its not an uncommon Asian last name.
Edit: Most likely, the issue with your name is that it contains “hash” which is a disallowed word. (It was the same issue with my guildie’s name.) I bet if you toss an additional ‘a’ in there (Haash) it would take it.

Considering pro league starts today. (First matches might be going as we speak) No, we won’t be seeing a ‘balance patch’ (as it relates to skill power anyway) until season 1 is over.
I tried to figure out which when and where what cup is starting as there always seems to be one randomly – can you explain to a noob when it starts (really today? couldn’t find anything about it) and when it’s going to end?

I was always under the impression that all adventures were supposed to be instanced. I mean, considering what they are, what you’re doing, and that it has a modicum of competition to it (with the leader boards). The fact that they aren’t…its not right. Unless they somehow require team interaction (which, again, under the impression this is all intended more for soloing), not instancing these things leaves too many griefing options available to both type of players involved (open world, and adventure).
I never really had an issue with leather, although I haven’t really done as much playing recently (so not as much salvaging) to now how badly the salvage and loot changes are going to hit me. Cloth has pretty much always been my bane though.

The issue with what you’re saying here is that it flies in the face of developer comments that were previously made. Yes, they stated that HoT would have “challenging content” and they specifically stated that it wasn’t the open world, and then they revealed raids and explicitly told us high level fractals and raids were the challenging content.
Specifically, in the reveal the statement was something like, “You’ll see challenging group content that is much harder than anything you’ve seen in GW2 before.” The comment about HoT not being the ’challenging content" referred to that statement. See below.
Additionally, Colin has previously made statements that while they (Anet) does not want “everyone to have everything” there were components of the game that they felt needed to be readily accessible to the entire player base (yes, even the most casual of casuals). It was explicitly stated that open world and story where those components; however, the way open world HoT is designed, it does not mesh these previous statements.
I think you’ll find that the persistent world stuff is accessible to everyone. Yes, HoT mobs are tougher, but remember that ANet design worships the herd. Quantity has a quality all its own. What may be true is that HoT persistent world rewards are not accessible if a given player want to avoid the madding crowds and particle pollution, but that’s for the most part true in vanilla as well.
Granted, statements have been made (unsurprisingly, by Colin) and then reneged on before, so it’s not surprising to see it happen again. However, they really need to say something when they are going to do a complete 180 on their stance so fewer people feel jilted? slighted? lied to? However you choose to put it.
See italics, above… plus
HoT mob difficulty was established in the reveal, in the betas, and explicitly in the first beta announcement.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-first-beta-weekend-event-begins-august-7/
“Do you feel the need to use your entire skill bar in battles? Does teaming up with other players feel more rewarding? Do you find yourself wanting to change your skills and traits to overcome encounters? Warning—creatures will be more challenging than in the existing Guild Wars 2 world. (Note: This is not what we meant when we said “challenging group content” at the expansion’s announcement—we’ll announce the details of that in the future.)”
I’ll grant you that the greater challenge of Hot mobs is risky in terms of alienating some players. However, I believe there was adequate notification of the change.
Yes, this was for the beta and then, as with the initial game, subsequent betas were tuned down. While I’m sure no one in their right mind expected HoT to be exactly what the core game was, in terms of difficulty (we did ask for a reason to use more than just 1-spam all the time), they might have taken it a wee bit far with some of the open world components. They have, essentially, made HoT non-solo friendly to a significant portion of players. We can’t seem to get away from the complaints about it, its all over the forums, and its all over the game anytime I log in.
And what kind of 180 did they pull? Don’t you feel it’s a bit exaggerated to call it a 180? They said HoT is going to be more challening and that’s exactly how it turned out.
Though I admit I can sympthatize with the attitude of expecting some challening content while other stuff should remain readily accessible. But since HoT has only 4 zones I think it’s for the better that they made all of it challenging. Splitting up those 4 maps even further into easy/difficult would have been questionable. If they did let’s say 8 maps then making half of them easy and the other half difficult could have worked out. But with 4 maps? They had to make a call. And they chose difficult.
They said HoT would “have” challenging content. That’s not quite the same thing. Now, step back and look at it from the perspective of some of the casuals that where also aware of the previous comments about open world and story being the components intended for “everyone.” See the issue now? HoT open world is not precisely ‘casual friendly.’
I play casually, and I admit I don’t have an issue with having some challenge in the open world; however, given that I do play with people that are even less skilled than me, I can see where they are going to have issues. My husband in particular is probably going to make me pull my hair out in frustration.
Still, how can you not call it a 180 to go from “open world is for everyone” to “open world is now challenging content.” Different ends of the spectrum.
@displacedTitan
The issue players have is that GW2 was advertised and designed as a casual game for over 3 years, that’s why a lot of the players started playing it. Changing the direction of where the game goes or changing the target audience would upset such players ofc.Imagine if you bought a car advertised as a family car, you buy it to casually drive it to work, vacations, etc. Then after 3 years the manufacturer recalls your car and modifies it into a truck. You wouldn’t really like that, if you wanted a truck you would’ve bought a truck from the beginning, you just want a family car.
But HoT didn’t modify GW2. The casual Guild Wars you’re looking for didn’t vanish. It’s still out there. Go play in any of the core zones and you’ll find them as casual as ever.
Your analogy makes it look like GW2 was transformed into an entirely new game while in truth it simply added new (albeit different and less casual) zones. GW2 will need many many more expansions before the “car” becomes a “truck”.
This is exactly how I’m playing. I like my characters, enjoy refining them, travelling. If I want stress, I’ll deal with real world stuff.
I just feel like I wasted money on HoT, and am making sure ANET knows I won’t be buying any future expansions like it.
That’s your own fault. Should have informed yourself better before purchasing. The information that HoT is going to be more challenging was well known since the initial reveal back in January!
The issue with what you’re saying here is that it flies in the face of developer comments that were previously made. Yes, they stated that HoT would have “challenging content” and they specifically stated that it wasn’t the open world, and then they revealed raids and explicitly told us high level fractals and raids were the challenging content.

The Star Wars is strong with these.
smh
Not sure I care for them personally.
I would think that the better scenario would be, instead of ‘taxing’ members (really people, we don’t have enough of this kitten irl?), reward the guild for the members’ representation. As members play the game, events/monster skills/pvp matches won/towers taken/ etc generate funds for the guild. These fund cannot be ‘withdrawn’ by any means than through applying them to the upgrade system, or perhaps an additional system when we could purchase (for an exorbitant fee) some of the more rare materials needed for upgrades (like sw shovels for example). More players playing together on the same thing equates to more funds generated. Sounds eerily like influence, now does it not?
“But won’t this lead back to people requiring 100% rep!?” We have that issue now, what’s your point? People that are confident in their guild, and their guildies, don’t need to force 100% rep. Besides, this would not remove the ability to donate, nor would it necessarily ‘speed up’ guild upgrading extensively given that favor and aetherium remain hard capped time gates. However, it might help a bit with reducing the feeling that we need to badger members into donating, just by playing, they are once again contributing.

When has a patch ever contained only the big key items that it said it contained?
Like…..never. There are (almost) always little tweaks, fixes, polish, etc in them as well.
Edit: and they always have at least one bug if nothing else
Well… let’s see. We have..what? 214 in the core world? Another 200 in HoT? It takes 250 per spec, we’re setting at 414 right now of 500 (total) we’d need to support 2.
It’s 400 in HoT, so we’re currently at 614 – enough for 2 and nearly half way to a third.
Oh right….40 HC, not 20. Yup, I blame Monday lol. Thank you for the correction.
the Druid is the worst Espec in the game.
Interesting.
So now I’ve heard:
Tempest is the worst
Berserker is the worst
Daredevil is the worst
Druid is the worst
Only ‘one’ can be the ‘worst.’ Not all of them.
Of course the other’s all have their ‘terrible’ aspects:
Gyros for the Scrapper
Bow for the Dragonhunter
Rev ‘unplayable’ without Glint
Etc Etc
Really people….sheesh

I’m fairly certain we might see another map or two (akin to DT orSW) when LS spins back up. They could easily sprinkle in a half dozen or so hero challenges that way, to round out what we’d need for another spec. So a second might not ‘years’ away, although I’d definitely say don’t expect on seeing one in the next 6 to 9 months either.
Drakar, the 10-man and less has been established well before now. Additionally, it’s more than just the Hall claiming that the thread (and several others) has been discussing.

Woooo-boy, those face plants hurt.
I wouldn’t mind this being implemented as a QoL feature. I wouldn’t use it personally, as I like to keep my tabs separate and organized in a particular fashion. I would really like to be able to name my tabs though, so I could minimize them and tell at a glance what they are for (since I don’t always remember what order they are in).
