“This won’t end well”
Haven’t seen the movie but I’m pretty sure EVIL will mostly be winning but GOOD will come through at the end, leaving a tantalising loose end to be continued.
Sorry if that spoils it for anyone.
Lol the plot line of any Star Wars ever…. (not to mention a slew of other movies/books)
As much as I like the title and am working on completing the achievement… I still think a different title would best suite it from GW1..
• Incorrigable Alehound
• DrunkardCoz you know… 10k drinks speaks for itself.
/agree
How about the title for that achievement being:
- Nothing Happening in Real Life
Speaking for yourself there?
There needs to be a title for that too
How about: Skritt Kicker
Skritt-a-phobe?
Skrittopsy?
I could do this all day I think…

Then consider EotN
Still more content than HoT
Only in respect to armor.
I think a couple of things might help with the JP hate.
1) Remove or modify the built in timers (mainly the health degen, snowflake rotation doesnt seem to bad)
Or
2) Give us our skills back and let us help each other.
If I remember right they took the skills away because some people were complaining about other players giving them swiftness when they didn’t want any thus ruining the timing for them.
I could see that…yup
If they would award tokens each time you complete a festival event( bell choir, windersday jp, infinitarium, snowball fight) and then have a token requirement to get the collectibles. That way people could have played the content they enjoyed and get the skin too.
I’d be game for that alternative. Options…always good thing.

Oh, OK.
Well, I think that would have been OK, if they had also added some new, basic armour, ingame.
As, I would imagine, people probably expected they would do, when they asked for that…
They probably thought that would be a given and so, felt free to just talk about where things should be placed.
Little did they know, that by asking for the armour skins to appear solely ingame, they were only going to be given that very ugly and/or over-the-top stuff and no new basics.
People can’t be blamed for what they ask for, when they’re not in possession of all the facts and possible implications of their requests.
So, ultimately, Anet are the ones responsible, as they made the final decision and then chose to implement it in the specific way they did.
Not to mention that, as the makers of the game, they are ultimately responsible for anything they choose to do, anyway.
However many people may have asked, specifically, for it, or not.
I dunno about other people, but I never expected new whites, blues, or greens. I figured new armor skins would likely be rares (like Lumi). I just sort of figured we’d get more than 3 of them. =/ Then again…we only got 3 legendaries with HoT launch too, so maybe not..
Well, I think it would be fair to expect them, as they were originally included in the base game and the word “expansion”, in this context, implies the addition of more of the same kind of things…
I think, pretty much anyone, who originally came from a game, like WoW, would expect something like basic armour to be provided as part of a new xpac, too.
I know WoW has a sub, but there is nothing stopping someone from playing for a month, or less and still collecting all of the greens/blues, in that time, for only the additional cost of one month’s sub.
So, I really don’t think adding some new basic armour into a game, that some people paid $100 for (not to mention any extra gemstore purchases they made), would have been too much to ask.
I don’t come from WoW. I come from GW1. shrug GW2 doen’t work quite the same way as either of them, so it’s hard to really compare and contrast in any meaningful way. (Granted, we still do it)
And yeah, I’m one of those that spent $100+
Yeah, I was just trying to give an idea of, what I feel is, the typical person’s expectations.
Quite a few people have come from WoW and I think even the reasonable ones would, almost certainly, be fairly disappointed with the (lack of) gear drops in HoT.
Even taking into account the lack of sub, here.
They just need to add a few more sets to the game. And maybe take a couple of the weapon sets from the BLTC and stick them in game as earnable rewards. Be it from achievements, collections, drops, et all.
Maybe a couple of earnable glider skins too.

oh did we now? I cant recall myself asking for that stupid BS like ever in the time i play the game (3rd year now). I asked to have something more like profession armor..like gw1 did just freely available for all classes that share the same weight class like we got right now, ya know.. i personally like to dress my chars with armors that lean towards some iconic profession look, i didnt ask to have em added in game for free. I wanted a good share on the gemstore actually to have a reason to buy gems and support the game and pimp my char visuals out, switching parts of my armors and creating new and amazing looks…unlike what outfits do. And dont come me with the usual “colours can change so much” deal. Yea? So? What happens if i dont like a helmet of an outfit and wear my glasses or eyepatch with it? I maybe dont like the shoulders either and maybe i want brown leather pants and a leaf green top…tell me how id do that with 4 colour slots for a whole fit.
I also asked for making town clothes useable in battle. What did i get? Tonics.. effin tonics and i happened to LOVE town clothes. Im serios, i loved town clothes and i owned most of what was once town clothes… till they destroyed em and made em useless.
Also i asked to compensate the extreme lack of armor skins added since the wardrobe patch in the 50 bucks expansion. What did i get? Effin 3 sets.. and a 4th for heavy only…and a handfull of profession themed skins that are fantastic.. though.. where is the rest of these sets?
Also effort? Yea.. do tell me how hard it gotta be, if they can push out such a massive amount of outfits since the x-pac hit they surely could have taken some extra effort to make some sets for HoT. With the mistward they showed they dont care to make the same design for every weight class anyways.. cause where would be the light and medium mistward.
Also they said they make with outfits what they cant do with the armor weight classes… yea.. look at them and tell me that 90% of them are not clearly fitting within a weight class. I give you the wedding attire, lich and noble count… the rest could clearly be armor sets.
Also.. nice generic “if dun lik it dun buy it lel” comment, wouldnt be a topic that mentons outfits without it.
Also yes im as salty as the dead sea…im fully aware of that.
As I told Tiger, general “we.” You many have not made the costume suggestion specifically, but several of us did. In fact I was one of the people that suggested it might be an alternative, after they explained to use that town clothes functioned as a 4th mesh (so to speak) and couldn’t just be mapped over to armor weights. It wasn’t perfect, but maybe it was an option. Obviously, it was something they could do.
Yes, I can see you’re salty. I didn’t particularly like the whole tonic debacle either. But what could they really do? Did you expect them to create (and freely give) everyone an outfit for every permutation of town clothes they owned?
As I’ve said in other topics, yes many of the outfits could likely be mapped to one (maybe 2) of the existing armor weights. Thus allowing those weights more mix and match variety; however, that would probably end up being a bigger point of contention for people than the outfits themselves currently are. Considering a good number of them are seemingly light armor inspired. I have seen a number of heavy armor wearers donning the noble dress, the exemplar dress, the wedding dress. Things that Anet has implied couldnt be mapped to that weight tier. So you’re basically saying its ok to tell those players to go kitten themselves?
As for effort, they used to push out town clothes left, right, and center too. Do we not recall the assorted threads kittening about that? Its the same kitten thing.

Ah Factions… the campaign that GW1 players either loved, or hated. There never seemed to be any middle ground for those one. Personally, I think it was my favorite, despite its flaws.
I’m not sure this was my favorite expansion back when I played GW1, but it’s the one I’m most tempted to go back to now. Sadly, I rolled an Assassin and Vizunah Square is pretty much a wall to progression as this is near impossible to do with nothing but henchmen (I don’t have hardly any heroes since my old account got hijacked and the player population is…sparse).
Urgoz’s Warden and the Deep were also some of the most fun high-end content I think GW1 ever had…
/nostalgiatrip
Ouch fodder… I mean Assassin. Although, I didnt have too much of an issue with hench when I did it “back in the day” Though, yeah, heroes definitely make it easier. If you decide to go back and play through it, drop me a pm on here regarding when, I’d be more than happy to lend a hand if I’m free.
I think I preferred FoW and UW over the Deep. Urgoz was fun though. It was just so kitten hard to get enough people…
That’s 500 Drinks a day. I’ve been doing Festival stuff for the last 7 hours straight and only got around 300. That’s kittening ridiculous.
You get 10 gifts each time you complete the JP which is about 300 gifts per hour if you’re good at it. Probably the most efficient way to get those drinks.
Which…I am totally not (good at it). Lol

We asked for outfits. We got what we asked for. We asked that they stop putting armor in the gemstore, and make armor in-game rewards only. They granted that wish.
Who’s “we”?
The few people who bother to post regularly on these forums, or on reddit?
I didn’t ask for that and I certainly didn’t ask for hideously encrusted, or WoW-style over-the-top, vomit-inducing, “finery” to be the only new armour choices provided.
I like outfits, for levelling and for when I don’t have any transmutation charges left.
But, I also like mixing and matching simple armour pieces and any new opportunities to do that, successfully, have been totally curtailed, in HoT.
It was a general “we.” No, you might not have been among those that specifically asked for it, but many others did. I don’t hang out on reddit, so I can speak for that community; however, it was something people on here and in game seemed favorable to originally. It was one of the fer suggestions on how to deal with town clothes, given than so many people wanted town clothes wearable in combat.
I don’t particularly care for the new armors either, nor for the WoW style oversized shoulders and such. Some of their design choices do tend to give me pause these days.
I like to mix and match too. More armors are something I have been an advocate for, for a very, very long time. Feel free to check my post history to verify.
I think a couple of things might help with the JP hate.
1) Remove or modify the built in timers (mainly the health degen, snowflake rotation doesnt seem to bad)
Or
2) Give us our skills back and let us help each other.
Snowflake rotation gets me every single time. I can always buff my vitality.
Please slow down or remove the timers and I will struggle through it.
Which snowflake path are you taking? I know I had issues with the snowflakes at first, but after a few (ok a lot of) attempts I did get the hang of it. It does feel like some paths are easier than others.
I’ve tried all of them. Is there one you would recommend if my problem is that I can’t turn quickly (since I can’t use a mouse)?
I’m willing to make an effort, but I want to succeed eventually.
I think we notify your problem now.
Go get a mouse for GW2 please.
You’d perform way-worse w/o a mouse in any other contents too.
You’re handicap yourself.
Take a step back and read how he phrased it. “Cant use” not “I dont have” There may be legitimate reasons why a person can’t use a mouse. Try to be a bit less callous.
/shrug
They’ve done this sort of thing for a long time now, dating back to Guild Wars 1. For whatever reason they want some holiday rewards to be out of the reach of most people and since its baked into their reward philosophy then asking for a change is wasting time.
Wintersday 2007: Mini Polar Bear. Drop rate chance from Wintersday Chest is 0.02%. Wintersday Grab Bag, maybe 0.2% (if I remember correctly you could get 2 Grab Bags per account per year)
By Mini Polar Bear standards of access, they are handing out these shoulders to everyone who wants one.
Oh dear gods….I remember farming for that bear. Oh the pain…. the agony. Still don’t have one.
I can understand some things being exclusive. Necessary evil, I suppose. Tribulation mode SAB skins are a good example, imo. Anet made a comment around roughly that point that they didn’t necessarily want everyone to have everything; which I can understand.
I don’t particularly feel festival items/rewards should fall into that boat though. There’s a difference between being able to get it quickly, vs having to work towards it over an extended period of time, vs just not being able to do it at all.
Treb mode never ask you to grind. It’s a one time thing that’s less than 10 hrs total, and can be done via watching a youtube video for easy solution.
Yes, you actually EARN it. No amount of credit card or brainless grind would help you get it. This should be the main method of acquiring rare skins in a game.
I wasn’t even going into the grind component there. Was simply addressing the whole mentality on exclusivity.
However, I wouldn’t say SAB didn’t make you “grind.” If you wanted more than 1 weapon you had to do each trib mode zone and get its associated token, and you could only get the tokens once a day. IMO that’s just as tedious.
Well, overall, only 2-1 and 2-2 are super tedious. Rest if you memorize it, it should take alot less time. And ofc it’d be tedious if you want more than one skins
It’s not like we’re getting 12 different types of shoulders for the Wintersday, just one.
Yeah just one. kitten thing should be legendary tier. Hmph.

Hmmm… I think Quaggan is the most straight forward, with the least amount of turns. Its pretty much straight, except for the section around the tower, and they all have that to varying extents. I’m guessing this is where you typically have the most issue?
Lack of mouse is definitely a problem. Keyboard rotation just isnt fast enough. You’ll want to avoid the snowman path definitely, I’m always rotating my mouse for the climb up that path.
Did you play GW1 by chance? Or know anything about it? Would answer your own questions there.
Did you play GW2 by chance? Or know anything about it?
Sorry to be sarcastic, but other than the ‘Guild Wars’ part in the name (only), the two games are so unrelated it really doesn’t matter.
Oh for kittens sake, take into consideration the questions posed in which I was responding to. “Anet prioritizing pvp and paid tournaments over pve” Anyone that played it should be well aware that GW1 was designed as a pvp game, pve was just a “bonus.” PvP was the golden child, and even here it still is. Yes, GW2 and GW1 are very different games. However, they are made by the same kitten people. PvP is still their baby, which is why skill balancing (and now its effects) is based around it and not pve or wvw.

I like how for $50 we got fewer armor sets than there have been new outfits in the gem store since HoT’s release.
We’re all a bit sore about that, I think. It’s sort of beside the point though.
Well it isnt. Not for me. Gem store is a nice thing, always supported it, even after they brought the cancer growth that most call outfits to the game….. BUT till i got the minimal amount of armor skins i expected ( 1 per map meta of HoT, 1 FULL set per elite spec\profession and legendary armor and this is a rather reasonable thing to expect for a 50 bucks price tag that pays AAA games with much more content then HoT got and after one darn year of starving the game from skins) I will keep boycotting the store and complaining to my hearts content, just try to stop me. Before i shut up about that they gotta ban me…or i gonna loose my love for gw and just fade away..- whatever comes first
We asked for outfits. We got what we asked for. We asked that they stop putting armor in the gemstore, and make armor in-game rewards only. They granted that wish. The gemstore still needs to add items that people desire. Outfits fill that need. You don’t like them, don’t buy them. That’s perfectly fine.
Yes, we all felt that HoT should have come with more armor sets. We know that it takes more effort to design and implement armor (as opposed to an outfit), so let’s hope that we’ll see more added when the LS spins back up. still crossing her fingers

Probably won’t see alternative options for achieving certain things the first year out. Might see additional options next year though. (Take Gwyn from Halloween for example) While I’m not precisely the happiest of campers regarding that approach, taking that path does 2 things for anet. First, it offers a tiny bit of exclusivity (for a short time) for some people. Second, it gives people more goals to work towards in the future. Granted, not everyone will look at it from that perspective.

I… you… how… ugh!
Seriously… no words.
How the hell is something they’ve done for a decade (ie – the recycling of yearly events) an issue? I mean, really. You honestly thought they were going to do something different than what they did in GW1? (Which amounted to varied amounts of tweaking from year to year, not massive overhauls) Hell, they told us in the first year that they planned on building festival content for reuse.
My stomach starts churning, I get dizzy, and then I have to log off completely and spend the rest of the evening trying not to throw up.
I can commiserate with this feeling. I have this issue with jumping puzzles as well if they are very twisty, or in enclosed places where the camera zoom ends up bouncing in and out. I have a bit less issue now thanks to some of the new camera controls; however, tight places still cause issues for me.
I don’t have much of an issue with this for Winter Wonderland, because it’s very open. The hard part for me is 1)getting the timing right and 2) not missing the jumps. I actually managed to complete WW for the very first time this morning after 3 years of attempting it (and I’m still buzzed about it).
Where are you having the most issue OP? With twisting through the snowflake platforms?
Maybe this is a hint of Jormag’s weakness. Alcohol poisoning.
Picturing Norn: One for me, two for Jormag, one for me, five for Jormag, one for me, three for Jormag…
lol thank you for the mental image of playing belcher’s bluff with Jormag
Why do so many people have an issue with this? All I can say is “About kitten time!”
That title is easy mode now that you can spam drinks
NOW Sure, but that’s entirely beside the point.
And you posting a gw1 achievement is somehow relevant to this current achievement? Seemed more like a subtle brag
sigh I’m not even going to bother attempting to explain. You just won’t get it with that attitude. Other people understood me.

They did this a couple of times a long, long time ago. We got some minis, a kite, and a couple of other things. It was early in the game’s lifespan. They haven’t don’t anything like that since. None of the ‘valued customer’ gifts thing.
This is another JP I’ve never been able to complete (and boy have I tried). The snowflakes, yes, are on a timer, but as long as you start the path when they start popping for a fresh run and just keep moving (similarly to the Halloween puzzle), you can pretty easily make it to the first check point. It took me a while, but I eventually got that part of it. Its the kitten disappearing presents (and my jump randomly deciding to not work) that kills me every time. Havent made it past there yet.
Why do so many people have an issue with this? All I can say is “About kitten time!”
That is what they said , but it didn’t make sense then and it doesn’t make sense now. Parties are a thing in PvP. Saying that you can’t enter with your party because it is PvP is nonsense.
I had this thought as well, last year, considering. However it depends on what components of code are common between pvp and activities. It might have something to do with the solo q stuff and it works. Dunno. They didnt really elaborate (and here I was hoping).
At least you can sort of work around it, similarly to how we could work around not being able to party for RA in GW1. If you all click ‘join’ about the same time, some of you should make it into the same instance.
Anyway, this is extremely disappointing that anet continues to treat their veteran players like this while putting in tons of extra development time to pump out a new black lion weapon set and outfit every single week.
That really doesn’t take anywhere near the same amount of work. Besides, different people for different tasks.
It wasn’t a mistake last year. They told us it had to be that way due to the changes done to pvp, if I recall correctly. Because activities shared coding with pvp (dear gods why Anet?) or some such craziness. And they couldnt revert it ( heavy sigh ) I’m not even going to go attempt to find that post, too much work.
Yeah that was the reason given. It wasn’t a mistake it was intentional. But we did have it party based one year. Never again will we have it that way apparently.
Yup. First year we could party, I remember 3 manning Toypoc with my husband and a guildie (fun kitten, spent hours playing it). Last year we were soooooo bummed that we couldn’t do it again. I still played, but it wasn’t as fun with randoms.
Edit: I remember begging and pleading for them to fix it / find a work around so we could party when this came back around. No dice it seems.

Yep, I remember those days. Glad I got that over and done with, mostly during the timer days.
Yeah, I had mine done before they changed how that worked in GW1. Even tried the whole mapping thing to earn extra points and such. After they implemented just drinking it for points, thus cutting out the waiting, I was mildly peeved. Same when they changed the tonics for Party Animal. I don’t know how many hours I’d spent popping from map to map and popping tonics for points. sigh

Ooo I like the female norn. Oddly, the female human paired with the monk armor makes me super nostalgic.
Guess it’s time to buy some make over kits

Ack! Definitely time to buy kits it seems. (Is it sad that there isn’t a single Charr hairstyle there that I like?)

Look at Reddit about [GEM store]

OP if you think the gemstore is done entirely by the people that do ….oh say… the event programming, or the precursor crafting components, or bug fixes, or balance, then you’re completely out of touch. Sure there is overlap between developers across tasks in any environment, but not to the extent you’re claiming the game is impacted.
Additionally the claim that gem store vanity items add nothing to one’s gaming experience is entirely subjective. Some people very much enjoy that stuff, and have no issues either dropping real cash on gem, or exchanging in game gold for it. It’s entirely personal choice, and while you’re entirely in your right to not like it, it is not your right to tell others that they shouldn’t like it or shouldn’t have it.
Anet is a business. Businesses are in business to make money. That is the gem store’s entire function. As long as it remains (largely) cosmetic, it is doing no harm. It is not “eating away” at what we get content wise “in huge chunks.” Granted, we would all like to see additional weapon sets and new armor sets earnable via game play; however, having a gemstore doesn’t mean we won’t. Conversely, removing the gemstore doesn’t mean we will either, considering to remove that source of funding would make for a significant hit to Anet’s ability to function.
Both! Make both.
As for race.. For ele, I’d saw Asura, Human, or Norn. For Necro, Human, Sylvari, of Norn. Probably in those orders of preference. Females, of course.
(I personally have 3 eles, 1 human, 1 norn, 1 charr. And 2 necros, 1 human, 1 sylvari. I have an asuran necro planned, but not yet made)
I don’t have screenies at the moment, I never did get around to ‘finishing’ my looks (got caught up in simply enjoying the game play).
Character name censor to be updated to release some previously blacklisted names.
SourceRylor
What about names that were blacklisted previously under the “stricter” policy? Are those permanently blocked?ProHeals(Michael Henninger; Game Support Lead)
Sometimes. There’s a mix of a filter and GM Actions that control whether a name can be used in the future.
The censor filter will get updated in the future. I have to manually update the list (on my schedule for this week) but it has to then travel through the dev cycle. I’m honestly not sure on the timeline for that part of the journey.
I wonder if this means my guildie will finally be able to grab his GW1 main character’s name. If he ever comes back to GW2 that is… sigh
still waiting for Stronghold to come back online
kitten it Anet! Why is it when I finally decide I want to dabble in something, you take it away? hmph
(@Schmendrick <3 the name btw. Beautiful, heart wrenching movie, even better book
)
