Seriously though…I’m all for more Faren. He’s amusing
So…just for giggles….
If race change is as much an issue as it is because of how they coded it….
…What makes you think they wouldn’t have coded the class based kitten the same way?Hmmmm?
Because there are mechanics, story, rewards and achievements based on your race and nothing based on your class.
You don’t think that certain rewards aren’t tied to the class completing (at least partially) the objective? No, it’s not as messy as with race (or as intricate), but I bet there are things that require consideration. You class determines what weapon you can wield, what trait lines you have, what elite you get, what skills unlock.
Anyway, the base point was if they hard coded the race components, its highly likely they did similarly with class values. Which again, doesn’t necessarily make for an ‘easy’ change, despite being less complex.
So…just for giggles….

Hmmmm?
I know I’m not the only one who was expecting a lot more armors added with HoT.
Nope, definitely not alone there. I expected more than the..what 3?…that we got. None of which I can even remotely say that I like as a “whole” set. Certain pieces yes, overall not so much.
I hope we see more added, maybe if/when LS spins back up.
From the sounds of comments made by Anet previously, its just not that simple. It sounds like they have some of that kitten hard coded into the character code itself, as opposed to being detachable data in their database. Which poses a helluva lot more issue with this “simple” feature that so many seem to want. Granted, even if it was completely modularized, and all of the assorted data was database cataloged perfectly, it’d still make for some interesting hoops to jump though to sanitize it all and then roll the fresh racial skin.
Well I see the issues, that every character has different maps and skills and training and such, which could cause a lot of errors in a swap. What if it required base game map complete for not HoT characters as well as max lvl 80 with all skills learned, and etc for Hot characters. And it literally deleted your character and let’s you make a “beta” like character. Starts at 80 with all skills and map completed, the real issue comes from people not wanting to re map or re level because they picked wrong x years ago. Ideas?
cringe
Just the thought of how much data would be involved…. gods what a nightmare. And I like doing database stuff (generally). I’m just going to skip the ‘how could’ speculation this time around.
The problem is when ever they’ve tried to do things like redoing the personal story, it has hosed up the system. Including not being able to continue the story, which could even include living story or HoT story. It’s not as simple as it looks to mess with the personal story.
Yup. Seems to have all kinds of interesting affects on the system (which again, makes me wonder about the state of the code). So, I say we let that sleeping dog be.

What do you guys think?
Second one. Bats win me almost every time.
I prefer mixing armor parts to be honest but I like your thief on account of him looking like the polar opposite of mine
(who also doesn’t look very stealthy but that’s sort of the point)
I did that same coat and pants combo on my ranger originally (except my ranger is female). Went with the t3 shoes, and uh…think they were the prowler gloves.

Lol thank you Flesh. Have you just started saving links to all this stuff? I never find it that fast when I want it.
I have a page on my iPad for quotes and links to dev posts that are a frequent topic of forum posts. I started doing it long ago, when I was still posting on my main account.
Ah I see. More dedication than I have with that stuff lol.
^^ There are some topics that show up on the forums as a perennial subject and I got tired of searching in Google for the same quotes over and over (and over and over) and decided to just save them for once and done.
Lol yup. I’m not sure if I’m just not that fed up yet, or if I’m just too kitten lazy.
Then again…I guess I can always just poke you, now that I know.
( wonders if we’ve derailed this enough yet )

I don’t want to be forced to wear a head piece
You don’t have to. Turn off head armor in wardrobe or equipment tab and you will turn off the head piece item of outfits, too.
Except if you’re underwater. Which might be a bug. But you can’t shut off the head piece underwater. Drives me batty.

People are getting scammed with shovels? How? lol.
People are probably “selling” them, with the promise that they will temporarily join your guild and donate them if you pay them “x” amount. So people pay for them, then the person laughs and goes about their day without keeping their end of the bargain.
Let me say, tho , that it’s completely buyer’s fault.
Same as if you want to trade things with another through ingame mail.
YOU KNOW you can get scammed.
The game promotes you to get them by regular play and that should be the way.If we wanna talk about the required quantities and difficulties for small guilds, well, you might be right.
I was avoiding pointing fingers, or trying to. I will agree that there is fault on the side of the buyer. I will agree there is risk involved. However, these ‘sellers’ are just as much at fault, for being kittenty individuals. But, like I said, I was trying not to go there.
As for required quantities…maybe Anet should up the drop rate for shovels a little bit. I can’t say ‘give us a way to purchase them’ because that sort of skews things in favor of chest trains, potentially a bit much. Which would result in yet more loot nerfs. I’ll take a pass on that.
I own a few outfits, 5 I think. I don’t mind them. Would I like the functionality to pair an outfit with my own choice of headgear (like we could in GW1)? Absolutely. Maybe they’ll be able to give that to us eventually, but it’s not likely to be high on the priority list. Still, I’ll cross my fingers for ‘some day.’
Would I like to play mix and match with outfit and armor? Sure, but Anet has told us “why” its not currently possible. And it’s not specifically due to clipping, though, I’m sure that’s something they think about it too (just to reduce the overall whine). They explained this as part of their “why we can’t just make town clothes into armor skins” conversation, and it has significantly to do with how they coded these things. Maybe eventually they’ll overhaul this code (which I honestly don’t think would be cost effective for them), but until such point what we desire isn’t compatible with what is currently capable. At best, they’d be able to cut some outfits to fit the existing armor weight meshes, but not others, thus resulting in some weights still not having the option to mix and match. I think that would cause greater issues than just having outfits as they presently stand.
Lol there’s a reason I have those people on my friend’s list…and if too many of them happen to be online, I avoid pvp at all costs.
Especially now!
I can survive some of these visual changes. I’m not the happiest about they way they went about it, but I’ll make do.
What bites my kitten , is that since they implemented some of this, if I run with the ‘Effect LOD’ setting turned on, I can’t kittening see the stupid DH Hunter’s Ward (I think that’s the one that creates that chained arrow ring thing around you). So I end up just stuck in place and can’t see wtf is holding me there. Uncheck it and whala…I can see it. Super annoying.
I understand why they have these unlocks. To a point. I also understand why they went with gold as opposed to glory. I thought it was dumb, but I understood their desire for ‘one universal currency.’
Personally, I think they did it better in GW1 where you could ‘discover’ (and thus unlock) a component (like an amulet) for pvp via identifying items in pve. OR if you pvped a lot, you could just use the Balth faction that you accumulated from playing, to purchase the pvp component.
Granted, gold is supposed to function roughly the same way as using Balth faction did in GW1, but the acquisition rate is a bit subpar. Thus resulting in some players feeling like are being forced into other modes in order to gain it in any decent quantity. I’m sure alternative options would be greatly appreciated by these people, and there isn’t anything wrong with having other options available.
I started on Anvil Rock. Granted, I’m not a primary wvw player, but I did some. When I finally got motivated to finish my world completion (back when WvW was still required), I absolutely couldn’t do it because my server was dead last in the tiers. Because all of the wvw guilds decided to transfer elsewhere.
Since I wanted to do a bit more wvw, I opted to transfer to a mid-tiered wvw server that would also allow me to finish my world completion. So I chose Devona’s Rest, which at the time was like tier 4. Got my world completion….and watched a significant chunk of the wvw guilds server hop. Where is DR now? Oh right….in the kittening bottom tier.
Server loyalty. Ha.

Rule in life #27.
Trust no one. Ever.
FTFY
shrug
Gimmick builds and pvp issues aside, the Abjured members ‘click’ with each other. You can see it when they play together. And you can “feel” the difference in their play when they rotate in a sub.
Time spent, and general dedication to the overall goal has helped to cement them in their purpose. As such, they play very well together. You know that crazy thing called teamwork.
They aren’t perfect. They do make mistakes. Those mistakes occasionally cost them a game, but they are pretty good at recovering. It tends to happen when you get to know your teammates really well.
It’s really not uncommon. You see it happen in close knit guilds in pve (omg, blasphemy) all the time. You don’t run into it as much in pvp because egos, drama, etc sometimes get in the way of a good thing. Other teams could do the same thing, with some time and humility.
There’s even jumping pads from banks to BLTP – you don’t have to run there at all!
NOW there are. Those are a relatively recent addition.

I think ur all mad lol. I guess i’m rather fed up of killing stuff non-stop, a bit too much of it in gw2, but i know some people like doing that all the time so if ur one of those, great, you’ll get plenty of it in this game i assure you.
I thought that’s what you mostly do in MMOs. Kill stuff. Loot their dead bodies. Kill more stuff.

I wouldn’t mind not killing everything in my parh but they all look at me funny when I go by. What else can I do? I have my pride, you know. Can’t be dissed by a bunch of pixels and still keep my self respect.
Oh screw self respect. What’s the phrase those wvw/pvp-ers use? If it’s red, it’s dead?
EXTERMINATE!

Yum, just the way I like it!
Though, if we visit the pvp forum, we could probably get some cheeze for it too. Wvw might work too ponders
Honestly, just do your research before buying and you’ll be fine. If you are into pvp and wvw, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on the developments because its a scary place there (but great for salting my forum popcorn). The game is still nice to look at, the xpac just makes the game a bit more exciting to play in pve if you are into that kind of thing (don’t get your pve cooties on me though).
I think the basic message here (ie – just do your homework before you buy) is sound advice for any and all. Again, I’d say this is just common sense, but …I’m coming to realize most people seem to actually lack that.
Snow, you better be sharing that popcorn!
Oddly the only word that’s coming to mind is “Charge!”
Suicidal, she is……
This is what I don’t understand when people say the raids are “casual friendly”.
How exactly are casuals, let alone new players such as my self, even supposed to get experience to be able to join teams? And that’s ignoring the gear requirement.
Even with the small exception of players that will allow someone to join with exotic, people are more and more requiring people to be experienced to join (from what I’ve personally seen, that is). Even guilds are requiring their members to “register” to even form a team.
I can’t even raid with my own guild (assuming the off chance happens that someone can’t be there) without fear of kittening people off simply because I’ve barely been able to attempt raids (2-2 hour sessions at best). How am I supposed to get better…?
You find laid back people (like me) that want to do it ‘for fun.’ You get to learn (cause we’re learning too), which nets you experience, and you don’t get all the screamy, whiney elitists. Mainly cause we just aren’t that up tight about it. Its a game after all.
I suppose there are always people out there that would find it easier to have someone else do the leg work for them. I don’t think asking for partial payment up front is a bad thing, but a lot of people probably aren’t going to be gung-ho about it. Suspicious group that we are, too easy to get scammed.
Personally, I don’t see how someone would find this ‘helpful,’ but then again, part of my vetting process is typically very hands on (ie actually playing with the person and letting them get to know me as I get to know them). The ones that I’ve taken a more laid back, ‘typical’ recruiting approach with don’t stay for more than like 48 hours. shrug
I haven’t stuck my toe into raids as yet (primarily because I just have not had that much time to play).
We got a bit of a mixed bag from Anet, when it came to describing whether or not the content would be casual or pug friendly. On one hand they said it would not be puggable, and yet at the same time made the comment that it would be akin to UW or FoW, which…were very much puggable.
I figure its too early to tell definitively at this point, but I don’t personally expect it to be any worse then UW or HM DoA, both of which people claimed where not pug friendly as well. Just takes time, and patience.
Ya know, normally my first thought would be “shouldn’t that just be common sense though?” I really should know better by now.
Common sense…. not so common…
New Legendaries no aura effect, seriously?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189
Nope, no auras. The “new thing” for the gen 2 legendaries is that they change your entire arm’s appearance when wielded. Slightly more subtle.
Been here, done this. While it’s not necessarily “bad” advice, for many people, a lot of the things you’re talking about farming to sell are things they need for some task or another. Only in some cases is it more profitable to sell those items and then buy whatever they were planning on making with it, but not all. Ends up being a bit of a catch 22 at times.
This what I have been using:

Its not perfect, and it still needs tweaking, but I do ok. Still juggling which rune I like.

“give them an inch, they will demand a mile”
After just advancing into the emerald division after 20-something long games of getting through Amber division, I lost a game because we had a teammate refuse to play. He stayed at home and did nothing. He did not d/c or leave, but he sometimes left home and died while autoattacking the enemy player taking the point. I wouldn’t be too annoyed at this loss if I didn’t lose a pip.
The game is rewarding players who deliberately toss games by making future games easier. When a player comes in with the intent to lose what are the rest of us supposed to do. His loss becomes all of our losses.
Deliberately throwing games is not something that we are OK with, and we should have something in-place in the near future to discourage this activity. I would look for enforcement against this negative behavior to start sometime early next week and may be retroactive since the start of the season.
I can’t really comment on system changes, as that is outside of my realm, however I do know that it’s actively being worked.
Absa-kittening-lutely!!!! May he rise to reap again.
However, that excludes some people where simply making, say…emerald 2, is an accomplishment for them. Going your route basically says unless you’re at least ‘x’ level, you don’t matter. Good for the goose, good for the gander. If the higher ones can be displayed, then so too should the lower ones have the option.
That makes sense, but considering that there’s barely any difficulty at getting out of amber, the emerald badge isn’t worth much. Now, let’s up that requirement by one and only one division, and have the minimum badge displayed to be sapphire (aka, getting out of emerald). That can actually be worth anything to your average casual player. When you take into account that the pvp playerbase is a minority, locking the badge display behind div2 (your suggestion) or div3 (my suggestion) will make it likely rare in pve.
Whatever happens, amber tag definitely needs to go. Most of the pve players that have it probably only have it because they queued once in patchday just to test the shiny new feature and may probably never enter HotM again anytime soon. That one is the real offender.
By that logic, then the same could be applied to any number of titles in the game. (They required little to no effort to obtain) Which isn’t fair to those that enjoy those titles. They aren’t “worth anything.” They aren’t “prestigious.” But you know what, people still like the option to display them. The same should be applied here. A simple toggle would be more than sufficient.
I think just an option to shut it off in pve / wvw would be sufficient. Make it ‘required’ to show in pvp, but otherwise, leave it to player preference.
But that would remove their purpose in pve/ wvw: to show the whole community that you’re a “good” pvp player.
Instead, I’d say that all icons from lower divisions should only be visible in the Heart of the Mists, while icons with real prestige should be visible anywhere.
However, that excludes some people where simply making, say…emerald 2, is an accomplishment for them. Going your route basically says unless you’re at least ‘x’ level, you don’t matter. Good for the goose, good for the gander. If the higher ones can be displayed, then so too should the lower ones have the option.
They are very nice. Relevant or not in 30 years, hopefully they will at least carry fond memories.
Amber’s tag gets unlocked as soon as you go in queue/ join the first match, so it’s meaningless and serves no purpose other than screen clutter.
At the very minimum, the tag should be only displayed from the 2nd division on, but to be honest, I would probably lock it behind 3rd or 4th division instead. It simply has no prestige otherwise.
I wouldn’t say that necessarily. I haven’t really seen a whole lot of them. I mean, in the eotm zerg I was in last night, there were all of 2 amber, and 1 emerald. Haven’t noticed any in pve as yet.
I think just an option to shut it off in pve / wvw would be sufficient. Make it ‘required’ to show in pvp, but otherwise, leave it to player preference.
smh
I will agree that pvp is presently a bit of a cluster….
I don’t necessarily agree with the OP. Yes communication is good, but it’s not the be all, end all of a game. Its helpful, but doesn’t mean you’re gonna win. Especially in a pug. Does help to get you flamed though by …uh..certain types of people.
Doing exactly as your told is not always the correct option, because sometimes the person calling the shots is wrong. Of course, even if you do exactly as you’re told, you may still get raged at because hey, you’re supposed to know better, be omnipotent, or at least a mind reader. shrug
Personally, as a causal solo queuer, having lived through the assorted GW1 RA shenanigans, GW2’s pvp just leaves me kind of ‘meh.’ You win some, you lose some, and the block list needs to have more room.
Thank you, Invictus, for posting this for us. Since some of us don’t hang out on reddit.

Those Christmas clothing items !!
Eg ugly wool socks (etc)I know these are trophys but they are handed in for rewards at wintersday.
Technically they are currency, considering that you exchange them at a vendor for an item. So, they belong in the wallet.
I don’t really see how this is any different than having your mastery point rank shown. Its just another ‘prowess’ marker. shrug I don’t have an issue with it, just shows people that you do more than one thing in your game play. I would prefer if the icons were a little more…appealing. Rather than just a colored square blog with your tier numeric in it. I mean, would it be so terribly difficult to make them little gemstone icons or something? (And given that gems actually come in color grades, they could even incorporate that for the different ranks, maybe in conjunction with the roman numeral)
