Because the only race (other than Asura of course) that really advanced, in a technological field, over the 250 years between GW1 and GW2 are the Charr. And they don’t really seem to be the bunch that would start building golems, instead of things that can blow everything up.

Late For Tea.1846

Exactly the point. I want flying to be this epic end-game reward that only the players who’ve completely explored everything get. (And no – I have not done this myself.)

Restricting it to characters who completed all Jumping Puzzles and have World Completion would leave you with such a small population that it’s basically a waste of time to design such a thing for just a few players.

If wings come to GW2, people should be surprised and impressed when they see someone with wings. Some going “Wow, good job” or “Holy —--, an angel!”
Not like some other games where wings or flying mounts are everywhere

Good job on what? Asking a mesmer to portal you up to a Jumping Puzzle?

This game seems to focus more on technology and science (Charr, Asura, Dredge) rather than magic. Fighting dragons is done with cannons, rather than meteor showers from a bunch of mages. Most of the obstacles in Orr are handled through tech, not magic.

It would be more likely to see some kind of car-vehicle (which the Charr already have) than wings.

To say they have no place is silly no offense, Wings of that sort have no place in our world by that thought process and yet people wear them cause they like them.

We, in the real world, don’t wear wings in daily life (I hope). We only wear them at special events or parties, like carnival. I have yet to see such an event in Tyria. Do you go to work or school wearing wings, or maybe when you go shopping? I don’t think so.

Wings don’t fit in the GW2 world in my opinion. If you’re talking about your typical feathers/demon wings, they look cheap and fake. Tyria doesn’t have the kind of magic that lets you take on (parts of) the form of a monster or animal. Thus, these kind of wings would just look like some cash shop item instead of an item that could actually have been part of the world you’re trying to immerse in.

If you’re talking about more fabric wings, which should be part of the armor or costume you’re wearing, I don’t see the need for it. Cosmetic wings have no benefit for an adventurer or soldier (If you’re going to mention other armor “add-ons” like spikes, those can have an intimidating effect and don’t hinder the wearer unlike 2 pieces of metal plating sticking from the back. Or they function as cultural design).
I’ve also never seen any citizens of Tyria wearing wings as part of their clothing/costume, nor seen any signs of them being interested in that sort of stuff.

To me, adding wings will only make it more difficult to immerse into the world, and make it feel too much like a 3rd rate MMO game who’s devs only care about milking the kitten out of the game with a horrible cash shop.

Warrior vs Thief

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

Personally I find a Thief much harder to play ‘right’ or with its full potential, but I guess that also means the reward will be much more satisfying. On the other hand, their damage seems to come largely from a single weapon skill, meaning you will find yourself spamming it a lot.

I view Thief as a more solo character, mainly having skills that benefit himself in different ways, with only a few skills that are really useful in a team. A Warrior is much more diverse, being able to dish out quite a bit of damage if he chooses the right utilities and traits, while other builds allow for a more supporting role with healing shouts and banners.

I have both a Thief and Warrior at lvl 80, and must say I prefer the Warrior for its diversity. Often I find myself spamming the same single skill too much on a Thief to make it really enjoyable for me.

If Two People Stack Bleeding...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

^^This is why condition stacks need to be increased, because as it stands now for example my condition bleed warrior is useless for dynamic events, because with all the bleeds being thrown around its VERY easy to hit the 25 stack cap, and therefore all that wasted bleed damage………

Interesting suggestion, though it may be difficult to make it work.

In an event, the maximum amount of bleed stacks on a boss can scale up as more players are participating. However, to balance things out I can think of two options:
1) Have each stack of bleed do less damage.
2) Further increase the boss’ health.

There are problems and downsides to both options though. Reducing the damage of bleed stacks would reduce the overall damage of bleed builds, and thus make not much of a difference in the end.
Further increasing the health pool of the boss will be problematic if not enough bleeders are engaging in the fight. Lets say you give all bosses a 5% HP buff to compensate for the extra damage from increased bleed stacks.
This HP buff will be around regardless of how many bleeders their are (as you can’t scale such a buff based on the builds people are running, for as far as I know. The only way to do this is increase the HP for every bleed stack the boss receives, technically making it some sort of heal. That wouldn’t work either). This results in a much longer, and probably more boring, fight if not enough players with bleed builds are aren’t to compensate for this increased HP buff.

I’m totally for this suggestion, as 25 stacks is really not enough in large group fights with the current duration on bleeds (it’s not difficult to get bleeds to last longer than 10 seconds). I just think it will be too difficult to actually make it work properly.

FotM lvl up, non-consecutive participation

in Suggestions

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

This would probably make it too easy, especially at higher levels. You could simply re-enter FotM until you end up with an easy and short fractal (Like the aquatic or swamp fractal), and after finishing repeat the process to get into another easy to do fractal. The harder fractals are a challenge, and not something to be skipped. Plan and communicate with your team, preferably before starting at all (Because if they don’t speak English/don’t talk at all/are too incompetent to comprehend, you can kick them or leave the party, and save yourself a lot of trouble).

As for not having enough time, I’d at least make 2 hours free for a full FotM run. If you don’t think you have enough time to do a run, it is better to not go at all. This will save time for both yourself and your team. Leaving halfway a Fractals run leaves your team hanging as they might not be able to complete the run with the 4 of them.

If Two People Stack Bleeding...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

From what I’ve personally experienced, it seems like the rule “Who comes first, goes first” applies. If lets say a boss has 25 stacks of bleeding, you can apply bleeds all you want but you won’t do any damage with them, as other players were first with their bleeds. You’ll have to wait for a stack to run out before you can apply your own.

But if for example Player A applied 5 stacks and Player B applied 8 stacks, player A does 5/13 of the damage and B does 8/13. Every stack of bleed applies damage on it’s own, the damage isn’t applied as a whole.

The armor he is wearing is Tier 3 Charr cultural heavy armor. All of Destiny’s Edge members wear the T3 cultural armor of their race. It’s going to cost you quite a bit (119g for the full set), but it is possible.

As for the sword, it’s a Fiery Dragon Sword which can be obtained by having at least 10 points in the Hall of Monuments. You need GW1’s Eye of the North to collect these points, and will take a while. So if you did not previously play GW1, it will be quite a challenge.

I like the idea of a treasure hunt, and I’d love to spend a good amount of time on it myself, but honestly I doubt it will work out. People will just post all the treasure locations on the internet, in which case you no longer need a map (or be able to read it).

That way it just becomes easy loot:
Waypoint to a treasure location and grab those shinies, then waypoint to the next.

A Suggestion for Heroes / Henchmen!

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

From the posts people make on this forum I can see many players like the ‘easy’ way to get what they want. Running with Heroes can be considered an ‘easy way’, as you don’t spend time looking for a party or have to deal with the incompetence of others. As people will be running with Heroes, the population of players who actual want to play with others will decrease, making it harder to find a party.
If it becomes harder to find a party, more people will be likely to give up and run with heroes, instead of spending another half an hour looking for that 5th party member. Eventually everyone will be used to running with Heroes, or expect not to be able to find a party.

I understand people prefer to solo things instead of playing with others, but in that case this game might not be for you. This is an MMO, which, in my opinion, should focus on teamplay. There are plenty of other great solo RPG games out there, you may want to try those if you like solo play.

I think Anet should focus on making it easier to get parties, instead of adding functions that would make less and less people willing to play in parties.

Please no, the game is easy enough as it is. If you get an NPC running after you doing whatever you want, you can fight mobs 2v1 in the world, making it even easier than it already is. It also lets you farm twice as fast and pretty much do anything else faster as well, causing balance issues.
On top of that, the Hero system in GW1 is what ruined it. When heroes got introduced everyone started to solo the game, instead of playing with others (UW and DoA with 7 heroes…). I don’t want to see the same happen to GW2.

BUT, the point is, it makes it a lot easier to tell them apart.

It’s difficult to try and tell images/real apart when you’re cycling through at an alarmingly large rate.

The point of a Mesmer’s clones however is for the player to “hide in a crowd” so to speak. By making it easier to identify clones, they would practically become useless as they don’t do any damage.
Just look at the actions the models take. Players don’t stand still, but generally run around all the time during a fight. Clones on the other hand only run when their target is out of range and do nothing but using basic attacks. It’s really easy to pick out the “real one” when you pay attention to the animations.

Thief IS Assasin.

Since when? A thief is after someone’s property, most of the time money or gold. An assassin is after someone’s life. There’s a huge difference between the two. As you said, the Thief profession is more of an assassin. In fact, the Thief doesn’t play like a thief at all. The only sign of it being a thief is their unique ability, but that’s where it ends.

I honestly wonder why they named it Thief in the first place, and not just sticked with assassin? They thought by pasting a different name on a concept they create a different class?

If Thieves get abilities that let them steal money from mobs, or receive better loot, then we’re talking about a Thief class. But last I looked, there’s no such thing as a pickpocket skill.

And I agree with you, I loved spending hours working on a build in GW1, knowing a large portion of the 1.7k available skills. Being restricting to a few skill sets of 5 skills each plus some utility skills feels too restricted. We could really do with some additional weapons and maybe a broader take on all the classes.

Late For Tea.1846

I’d like to see Titles return to what they used to be in GW1. Right now, no one notices your title as you actually have to target a player to bring up this kind of information. In GW1 the title would appear directly under someone’s name when hovering over the name or model. Bringing this back (or making it visible permanently instead of hovering) would probably motivate people to hunt for different titles.
Right now titles are somewhat useless, and even lack the “prestige” that comes with it, as simply no one notices them.

Please no. Elementalists should stick with their roots, their GW1 forefathers. Giving them some form of permanent pet makes it just a rip-off from other MMOs (Aion’s Spiritmaster pops up in my head. And Im sure there are others).
Rangers’ unique feature is their pet. Giving other classes pets would make the ranger less appealing. They already got there elementals, that’s good enough.

If they only designed 2 minis, no one would have made a complaint like “Anet only designed 2 minis? Worst Wintersday ever! Why not design 5 minis and give them all to us?”

The fact they designed more doesn’t mean you need to have everything. You should be thankful you can decide what you get. It’s just a freaking minipet. If you can’t live with not having all 5, buy them off the Gem store. If that’s not worth the money, then obviously you don’t want em that bad, and there’s no need for all the complaining.

You get all sort of content for free, without a monthly fee, and all you can do is complain about how you don’t get an over-the-top supply of free minipets? Stop being so freaking greedy. When you use these tonics and have assumed one of the forms, can you use a different tonic to switch to that different form? Assuming that’s possible, will doing that pull you out of brawl or reset your champion streak?

I’m just thinking about what kind of combos would be possible by jumping between forms. Griffon already looks absurdly good, I’d hate to see something like that comboed with Soldier’s cripple and Doll’s knockback.

You can switch forms just by using another tonic, you do not have to leave your current form first. Neither do you lose your costume brawl progression. It’s the same as when you leave your form to go back to your original, the custom brawl progression remains until you use the 5th skill of any brawl form (which makes you leave costume brawl).
So yes, it is possible to make combinations. I have used the Princess to knock people back, and then switch to Griffon to fear them into the water! =D

Both skills of the Princess and Soldier use ground targeting (an arrow to indicate the direction in which you fire the projectile), as well as Ventari’s first skill. Ventari’s 2nd skill is a self cast. The griffon’s first two skills are just your regular melee attacks, and it’s 3 skill is a channel that immobilizes you (so you can’t move).

Golem:
1) Punch -> Score one hit. Range: 170, Cooldown: 1
2) Whirl -> Score one hit and launch enemies. Range: 500, Cast time: 1, Cooldown: 3

The first skill seems to be stationary, as you can’t move. The second skill is rather unclear, as you can move and the progress bar continues, yet no animations or sounds show.

The Golem model doesn’t have any emotes.

Edit: The 2nd skill of the Golem seems to cancel when you move, thus making this model quite useless in Brawl, as the enemy can easily dodge both skills.

lets say a 1:3 chance for getting an endless tonic.

The idea of a 1/3 drop chance is made up by the community. There’s no actual statement from the Devs regarding the official drop chance, thus the drop chance may as well be 1/10 (which seems more likely from all these posts). In that case it’s much more common to have to try 20, 30 or even 40 times.

On top of that, this sample isn’t random. People with poor results are more likely to complain on the forums about it than people with a good result posting about their success.
