Shelved out around 1k gold for the Mini Karka Hatchling, about half a year ago. I wanted a mini that was unique, something that not many people have. Now, a few months later, it dropped almost 90% in value, and in the last week I’ve seen more Mini Karka Hatchlings than I have since the Southsun Cove event.

Saying I’m salty is an understatement.

Maybe I don’t get it, but why would you play an MMORPG when you want to be told what to do at every point in the game? Isn’t the entire idea behind this genre that you can do whatever you want, and create a path for yourself, instead of being stuck on a rail that brings you from start to end?

I’d advice you to hold on to a large portion of those gems until a few weeks after the PoF release. Big chance they will add a bunch of new PoF-themed stuff to the gem store, that you may be interested in.
When HoT hit we saw glider skins entering the gem store not soon after. I expect there to be mount skins up in a few weeks after release as well.

people should be able to express their opinions about game decisions (read anet decisions) without someone telling them to shut up. how would anet ever kno people thought hot was a hot mess if everyone who disagreed just shut up and/or left the game instead?

we (the players) might not get to make the final call on the direction the game goes, but we shouldn’t be afraid to speak out when we think those directions are wrong.

thanks for your thoughtful and productive white knighting contribution tho, don’t remember the last time i posted

That’s funny, because I don’t see any opinions being posted here. Just people pasting their wishlists of things they would like to see in the game.

I am all for diversity in opinions, and I don’t have problems with people having a different opinion than I do, as long as these people know what they are talking about. Have any of you tried out the new mount system? Yea, I don’t think so.
How can you give accurate feedback on a product you haven’t even tried yet? The forums are plastered all over with feedback on speculations, or of worst-case-scenarios. Non of these people have played PoF yet. Maybe they should wait until they actually have tried the expansion before giving “feedback”. Nothing is going to get changed in the product before the release, based on this forum feedback, anyway. So there is no harm in waiting.

I myself have reservations about mounts, as I long have disliked the idea of mounts in GW2. I think they can work out great in the new maps, but also feel that they have no place in core Tyrian maps. Yet I’d rather wait and try the mount system first, so I can then make an educated opinion, instead of basing my feedback around “what ifs”.

In the sticky on giving feedback, it literally says: “Speak from experience: If you’re offering an opinion on new or changed game content, get experience with it before commenting.”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-to-Give-Good-Feedback-1/first#post6372017

Also, if someone is going to suggest something, they should atleast support it with arguments. Don’t just say “I want this, kthxbye”. Actually explain why you think it’s a good idea. If you put some thought into it, half the idea posted here aren’t viable, or just outright aren’t going to happen.

More "long range" Ranger combat options?

in Ranger

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

To be fair, the Ranger has more ranged than melee options:
Longbow, Shortbow, Staff and Axe are all ranged weapons. Yes the Axe is used primarily at mid- to close-range, but at 900 range it is as much a ranged weapon as the Shortbow is.

Greatsword and the Sword are the only melee options a Ranger has, half of the ranged options.

When looking at the offhand weapons to be paired with the Sword or Axe, you can only truly consider the Dagger a melee off-hand.

I’m glad they decided to add a melee Elite spec to the Ranger, to open up class diversity.

Hunter's Board idea

I don’t have a Hunter’s Board, but find it odd that you indeed can’t get a mix of material types. Would definitely be good to have such an option when you aren’t looking for anything in particular.

Honestly I always found those home-instance gathering nodes not to be worth it. You’d have to gather daily for over 1-2 years to just get your money’s worth.
I don’t have any, but I think they could do with some buffs. That would make them more appealing.

That is not what I meant

What I meant was that is actually Menzies, but Kazmeer confused him with Balthazar. No one knows what they look like after all.

Ah, my bad, sorry. I don’t think it actually is Menzies, because at the end we fight the two hounds of Balthazar. I doubt Menzies would have access to the actual hounds, or them being an illusion. That would overcomplicate things.

What if that is really Menzies trying to make humans loose faith in Balthazar, in order to take his god of war mantle?

If I remember correctly Menzies is Balthazar’s half-brother, so it is not impossible that they might look a bit alike.

While I think that Menzies is indeed involved in this whole ordeal somehow, I doubt he would disguise himself as Balthazar who disguises himself as Lazarus. Anet’s storywriting is generally pretty straightforward with not too much detail.

I’m really sorry to say this, but I found the presentation of this LS episode abyssmal. There is a lot of important lore happening every few seconds but I feel like a big part of the GW universe was just butchered in less than an hour. The main reason I like to play the game these days is to explore the world and dig into the lore stuff – but now I feel like I can’t really take it serious any more.

The new map is pretty nice though, thanks for that – grappling hook is great!

I feel exactly the same way! It feels like they wanted to cram every piece of GW1 Prophecies lore into this single season. First we have the Bloodstones, which don’t get a proper introduction, but everyone already knows about. Then the bloodstone is used as a stepping stone for the Mursaats. But the Mursaat isn’t actually a mursaat, it is a human God. The druids also make a random appearance out of nowhere, but don’t really do anything except for just being there.

At this point I really wouldn’t be surprised if Vizier Khilbron and the Titans will be brought in as well, in LS3.6

Late For Tea.1846

Balthazar is by far the worst possible choice of a reveal. A proper build-up was definitely needed and not just a mention last episode that Lazarus wasn’t real. Last episode was appropriate epic, but this episode’s story was a downer.

The buildup was there, maybe more subtle than expected. The gods were gone, no one knows where they went and/or what they actually were. It not having been tied in to the story episodes so far does not mean it wasn’t there.

How is this even a build-up? The Six Gods have never been brought up in GW2, so the simple fact that they are “missing” is hardly enough reason to call it build-up. You can say the same about plenty of other characters. It could just as well have been Palawa Joko, who wants to expand his reign to the west. And in the next chapter we will have his undead popping up all over the place.
It could have been a Titan, Dhuum, Vizier Khilbron, Koss&Melonni’s descendant, Livia, a random surviving dwarf, Kuunavang. All of them are missing, in an unknown location, or we don’t have direct sight of, therefore they could all take Balthazar’s place without any story adjustments needed. Heck, it could even be the real Lazarus disguising himself as a fake Lazarus to confuse everyone.
Yes, non of them have any reason to disguise themselves as Lazarus, but neither did Balthazar until now. There was no build-up.

Actually, the gods did not create the bloodstones going by the lore found in Arah path 4. The Seers did. The gods collected many artefacts, including the bloodstone, but didn’t create them.

Interesting, they apparently changed the lore between GW1 and 2, maybe to flesh it out more. The GW1 wiki still states that the Six Gods created the bloodstone: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bloodstone

I think the gods are not real gods… and not because i main charr and asura… but they are just powerfull entieties just like the dragons. By the eternal alchemy with engine of destruction we will kill your gods humies bookah :P

It depends on your definition of “god”. They aren’t almighty beings, just very powerfull entities as you said. They also didn’t create Tyria, they merely brought humanity there.

So the part where he was using a lot of magical fire and converting human fanatics to his cause wasn’t a hint? Sure it didn’t seem like it at the time, but that’s exactly what you asked for. In retrospect it seems kind of obvious.

Of course we still don’t know exactly why he’s doing it or what the outcome is going to be, but again that shouldn’t be surprising. You’re complaining that they’ve ended the storyline too quickly whilst also complaining that they didn’t explain everything in full detail in the same Episode where we first found out who he is.

At least wait until Episode 6 before you decide it’s all over and done with and there’s not going to be any more to the story.

Using fire and converting fanatics is hardly a hint towards one of the Six Gods. It seems more fitting with the Mursaat. And considering that the Six Gods have never been significantly brought up in GW2 (other than some random NPC chit-chat), that alone would never be enough of a hint.

Even now, I still find Balthazar a very illogical choice. Why would he even bother hiding as Lazarus. Just let Taimi do her thing, and when she wants to use her device, he will pop up. Lazarus was in no way involved with Taimi’s device. It was a plot twist just to have a plot twist.

Also, it is Anet’s choice to release the story in instalments. The problem you then face is that every chapter that’s being released should be a strong, sound and well rounded story, which is not the case at the moment. It feels like they stopped mid-sentence.
It doesn’t help that the “storyline” portion of this chapter was incredibly short. They could have added another story instance, and add some more dialogue between the player character and Balthazar, so we get more background information.
The druids that popped up out of nowhere in this episode didn’t do much either, they were just “kinda there”. The entire episode feels random and shaky. It feels like they just grabbed a few lore points from GW1 and taped them together.

Honestly, I felt barely anything about the reveal. Maybe it would have had more impact if I had played GW1 or read more about its lore.

Even if you had played GW1, I doubt it would have been very different. I experienced the same feelings as I do now, back in LS3.1. Back then they introduced the bloodstones to GW2, which where a plot element in GW1. Until LS3.1, bloodstones had never been mentioned in any relevant way in GW2, so we can assume that no one really knew about them except for maybe some priory scholars. Yet as soon as LS3.1 arrived, everyone (NPCs and player characters) all of a sudden knew everything there was to know about bloodstones. It didn’t really make any sense, and it came out of nowhere.

Anet writers do this a lot, just dumping some lore into the game without the proper build-up. This leaves players such as you and me very disconnected from the game unfortunately.

Late For Tea.1846

Long story short, he’s propably not gone and there’s much bigger trouble which now involves the gods.

To be fair, a lot of people thought we couldn’t beat Zhaitan so easily, and he’d come back. We never saw him again.
Most people thought we couldn’t beat Mordremoth so easily, and we weren’t done with him yet. We were wrong again.
I’m not saying that this means Balthazar is done for. But looking at GW2’s history, it is more likely to assume that he is.

Why did a god of war feel the need to go through all this effort when their legends put them at the apex of the evolutionary chain. Apparantly there’s something bigger at play here..
Are the elder dragons and the gods connected?

If I recall correctly, the Elder Dragons are supposed to be stronger than the Six Gods. Also there is, for as far as I know, no evidence to support that the Elder Dragons and Six Gods are connected. The Gods came to Tyria when the dragons where already there, and left before the dragons awoke. They didn’t even know of Zhaitan when they established themselves in Arah.

Even if the focus point of the story is now going to be on the Six Gods, which could be pretty cool I admit, that doesn’t mean that the reveal of Lazarus’ identity doesn’t make any sense and that it felt cheap. Anet also hasn’t done enough to give the appearance that the story will move forward. This is mostly due to the abrupt endings that all of their story chapters have, ending right after the climax.

[Spoiler] Lazarus' identity a poor plot twist

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

So with LS3.5 we finally learned who Lazarus really is. And as no one expected, it was Balthazar making an appearance out of nowhere. Now Anet might think they have outdone themselves with such a reveal, but they missed one major point when it comes to “plot twists”.
If you want to have a good plot twist in your story, you should leave crumbs beforehan, that hint to the twist, without making it obvious. After the twist the audience should be left with a feeling of “how did I not see that?”, because then they realize you basically gave away the answer before the twist even happened.
But instead Balthazar randomly appears without any hints to it in the previous chapters whatsoever. He as a villain, concealing himself as Lazarus, makes no sense at all. It feels like a cheap “shocker”.

To make it worse, he disappeared as quickly as he appeared. So if he’s really gone, that means his involvement really didn’t mean that much. As such, he wasn’t worth all the hype and build-up. Once again you have major build up to the climax of your story, but once you reach the climax you rush things incredibly. You, Anet, received this criticism before with HoT, and now you’re doing it again.

This is great news! When I saw the price for a single sheet I could hardly believe we’d need 1.1k of those for 11 capsules. I appreciate the communication on this matter, so we all know it’s a bug and you guys are looking into it.

So I’ve only just crafted The Device, but I’ve been following the bugs for T3 closely, and I’d like some clarification. Before, we had to create 11 meteorite ingots, which would take 55 days due to the requirement of charged quartz. As I understand this as now we only have to wait 5 days to craft 25 ingots? Please correct me if I’m wrong

Thats right, you will only need a single Quartz Vial and thus only 5 Charged Quartz. The Vial is used to make the Ultrahot Sphere, which is in turn used to craft the Meteorite Ingot. You will now only have to craft 1 of each as the Meteorite Ingot recipe will provide you with all the Ingots you need

there is a place for it and its the sPvP area, maybe only the lobby as I feel having icons in matches would actually lead up to toxic players harrasing lower tiers in casual or other type of matches.

I definitely agree with this. I do not PvP myself so I have no clue how toxic the community already is, and whether the icons are actually visible during matches, but having them visible during matches adds no value to the game. At the same time I can see how it would increase toxicity.

Remove PvP League Icon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Late For Tea.1846

Late For Tea.1846

With the release of PvP Leagues, players can now have an icon next to their guild tag showing their league rank. As soon as I saw this I had to cringe, because I saw it in PvE. What made me feel even worse is that these icons are not limited to sPvP and PvE, but also make an appearance in WvW. Anet, I would strongly suggest you reconsider showing these league icons outside of HotM.

First of all, lets consider what we often see floating above a player’s head: A name, a guild tag, a title, mastery level in PvE, and occasionally a commander tag. Adding yet another icon to this list made everything feel cluttered, unorganized and out of place. To me it feels like you didn’t really know where to leave the icon and just decided to paste it behind the guild tag.
Furthermore, the fact this icon has to be a solid/filled square of bright yellow color means it will become the focal point of attention. No longer are you able to read names and guild tags of players, instead your eyes are drawn to that little box. These icons will also change with league division rank. Thus soon enough we will have different colors of floating boxes, making it all even more difficult to distinguish.
At the same time, the lack of transparency means anything behind these icons is obscured. Although this may not seem like much of a problem now, as only one or two players in a group will have the icon, as time progresses we won’t be able to see anything but these icons. I fear it will become too difficult to see commander tags or player names.

Secondly, PvP leagues mean nothing outside of the sPvP community. A player’s league rank does not indicate how good they are at clearing challenging PvE content, or how many servers they have bested in WvW. There is absolutely no need to show this icon in places other than the HotM because even the bragging rights will leave PvE/WvW players cold. What completely baffled me is why you felt it was more important to show this league icon over WvW ranks in WvW zones. At least show a player’s WvW rank if you find it necessary to have additional information next to a character’s name.

Mastery level is not visible in WvW and sPvP zones because it has no meaning outside of PvE. Why not take the same approach for the PvP leagues?

I understand you are excited about sPvP and think the leagues are star spangled awesome, but not all players feel the same way. To these players leagues mean nothing.

Astralaria... 62+ days of time-gated madness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Late For Tea.1846

…It took me 3 years to do a legendary. 62 days is not that long, I think the first legendary weapons didn’t start to show up in the core game till 3 months after launch…

You (and others) are missing one important point, and that is that upon release everyone started out at 0. No one had any characters, no one had any materials and no one had any gold. Now, 3 years down the line, a lot of players have accumulated wealth and thus have a headstart on the new legendaries. Of course the second generation legendaries are going to appear much faster, the same would have been the case if players had played for 3 years before the release of the first generation legendaries.
New players who are starting as of this moment wont have a legendary in 62 days. This is solely the minimum time requirement players have to wait.

The game has changed a lot over the last 3 years, and making a comparison between time requirements for the 2 different generations of legendaries therefor doesn’t make any sense.

Yeah, charged quartz can be bought with ToT bags, so no idea what this fuzz is about

According to the drop rate from ToT bags on wiki (which is most likely not accurate but gives a decent estimation), it would take ~1k bags to receive a single Charged Quartz. Now at the current price of about 7s per bag, that would statistically take 70g per Charged Quartz, and thus ~3.8k gold to obtain all 55 Charged Quartz required. Unless you are a rich player, such as yourself, this is definitely not an option. Thus the large majority of players who have all materials at hand (in the form of Quartz Crystals) will still have to wait a predefined amount of time, just for the sake of waiting.

Purchased my HoT ultimate edition from the website, and it took close to 70 hours for my gems to arrive (all other items were delivered instantly). Guildies reported that they bought it through the ingame gemstore and had gems delivered instantly.

Is it only possible to receive the 4k gems mon-fri?

No, I received my gems during the weekend.

You only obtain ‘y’ amount of items in ‘x’ amount of play time. Unless the average drop rate of HoT mobs increases/decreases, this rate stays constant and you will not be getting more/less items in the same amount of play time.
With respect to ‘utility’ items one may want to store in the bank (i.e. agony infusions from Fractals), they will most likely be limited enough not to warrant such an expansion of storage capacity.

If new crafting materials will get introduced, I expect they will get their own slot in the material storage as has happened with materials introduced in Living Story (i.e. ambrite). The amount of materials one can store here is limited by the storage capacity, which can be upgraded through the gem store. As stated above, if the drop rate remains constant, the inflow of the currently present materials stays constant and no storage upgrade is needed. If anything, the addition of new materials could mean you would need less storage, as it would mean a horizontal increase rather than a vertical one (you will get a wider variety of materials, however the quantity of each individual material will be less than it currently is).

Lastly, Anet has to make money, and storage upgrades are most likely a sizable portion of their income. They wont just give this up so everyone can have free upgrades to their storage capacities.

[Suggestion] Ignore minipet sounds option

Definitely agree with this. I’d rather not hear mystical dragon groans 24/7 when I visit the bank just because everyone has this mini now.

Makeover suggestions

With the currently makeover system the different features can only be previewed if one owns either the Total Makeover Kit or Self-style Hair Kit. This is quite frustrating when one is considering to get a makeover while not being sure if they can get anything better than what they currently have. In such a case I’d be quite reluctant to buy one of the kits.
It would be nice if there was a feature available that lets one play with their characters appearance, without having to own any of the kits. Such a system would allow a player to re-customize their character to see if they like what they get. Once done, it should be possible for the player to immediately purchase the changes currently previewed, with gems. This avoids the need to go to the gem store, purchase the desired kit, then having to find all desired options back.

Additionally, I personally believe that the choice in some features such as hairstyle and color depends on what equipment a character is wearing. Some hairstyles go better with certain armor, while other styles go better with different armor skins. The same applies to hair color and the dyes on a character’s equipment. It would be nice if the suggested makeover system tied in with the current wardrobe, and possibly the dye system, allowing the player to preview different character appearances while simultaneously being able to select both owned and missing armor skins.

Lastly, it appears that whenever a helmet is equipped, regardless of whether it is hidden or not, it will show up in the makeover panel. It would be nice if helmets which are hidden do not show up, so players do not have to unequip their head gear when changing their character’s appearance.

So for this year’s anniversary, we have to buy our own presents? What happened to getting a present with some free goodies in it? Is it really that bad over there that we have to start paying for our gifts now?

I’m confused here.

It’s Guild Wars 2’s birthday. If anything you should be buying it presents, not yourself.

Gone a year.....
