I think people mis-speak when they say Charr armor looks like human but stretched. There is no way (NO WAY) you can simply ‘stretch’ human armor to fit on Charr. They have too different a body structure to just stretch. The chest is bigger, the neck wider and the shoulders far broader than a human not to mention the legs are completely different and the posture isn’t the same.

Charr armor isn’t quite unique for their body shape, but it is far from stretched. It is modded to fit their shape and incorporate their features (ears, horn, claws and such).

There is only one not cultural armor, which fits charr’s body form, if not perfectly, then better then any other armors which I know. It is Durmand Priory heavy armor. In my subjective opinion of course.

Perhaps you’re not looking hard enough.

Here’s the parts of the armor set my Charr uses (pic 1) and a current pics of him. I have his 2nd look already but dunno what stats I should transmute them to.

You can’t get mad at them for things they did not say.

Yes we can. They ignored the majority of our profession’s issues yet again. We’ve had enough, our patience is gone. If they don’t read the forum, pay attention to us and actually learn about our class, they aren’t doing their jobs.

Okay. Let us return to a time period in which we just put up, keep our eyes to the floor, buy gems and accept the mediocrity the devs are offering us. Does that sound better to you?

You’re talking like the devs are out to get you or come murder your puppy.
Why not blame yourself for not keeping up to date and talking with the host to give him your questions?

I lack the time to chat with incompetent interviewers. I have a job and a life to lead, dunno about you.

Furthermore, I have every right to speak as I do. The devs aren’t doing their jobs, and they’ve been letting a profession with so much potential sit and rust since launch and are ONLY NOW addressing a FEW of its issues and in response buffing other already balanced(and arguably overpowered) professions. I can’t stand that.

No one said you don’t have the right to voice your opinion, but if you want to speak up as the voice of rangers, using lines like “we’ve had enough”, “they don’t pay attention to us”, or getting on your high horse expecting them to go out of their way to read your kittentry, then I’d have to say you’re not taking responsibility as the voice of Rangers to make the issues known.

If your problems are so severe, do something about it. If you’re too busy with your day job to make an impact, whining on the forums and sitting around being jaded is only hurting yourself.

Mace and protection-hate

in Warrior

Posted by: Leo G.4501

Leo G.4501

Since warriors is going to be a boon-hate class, why not make Mace be a protection-hate weapon?

Mace is designed to penetrate the plated armor. To make mace a protection-hate weapon for warriors will make sense.

I like this perspective.

Rather than the linear borning (get X amount more damage for X amount of boons) I feel this would actually make the cache of weapons warrior gets more viable for the situation. Currently that’s already the case but minorly.

You use Mace as a defensive weapon, making foes do less damage to you. But introducing your idea would give it another use, to help break down the towers of a highly armored target.

Perhaps, as a protection hate weapon, it could also apply vulnerability to anyone with protection on all its attacks with the burst doing higher damage against such foes. As a weapon, it’d still be primarily defensive as none of this increases the damage of the weapon to a large degree but it does help our team who are also attacking your same target.

Eh…just an idea though…but in the same vein, and if you were ‘modifying’ boon-hate, how would you do the other weapons?

Mace = protection hate
Hammer = stability/defiant hate? Would be cool if, when striking foes with defiant/stability, you gain stacks of frenzy to attack even faster. Just a thought

No this is a good example of griefing…
And should not be accepted….

Only a couple of thing may be valid…..most of them are just wrong.

Did you read the OP’s clarifications? How is it griefing if they simply choose not to run with certain people? Elitist or not, everyone has the right to group with whom they wish. If the OP doesn’t like a guy pinging his drops and being super chatty during encounters, who are you to say he’s griefing when he kicks the person once the run is complete?

This is the reason I feel the thread failed, because it’s about etiquette and it’s being bogged down by rude people being hypocrites. The OP has shown they’re listening to others opinions and perspective and purely taking things like that into consideration is etiquette. Coming at them with a stone to grind and an argument to shout while ignoring the other stuff they say is rude.

Although oddly enough, Fear is a condition that is breakable by stun breakers but Frozen, which isn’t a condition and works exactly like a stun, isn’t affected by stun breakers.

It does NOT work like a stun. Being frozen, you still remain in control of your charakter. Being stunned, you can’t use any ability.

I’m talking about frozen, not chill. Frozen being short for Ice Block, which is a CC that does, in fact, apply stuns for its duration.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ice_block

I guess I should clarify while I’m at it; Stun breakers do break frozen, but the ice block will keep casting stuns on you until its effect ends.

I really don’t like this:

“Ranged attacks, Scepter Guardians, Pistol Thieves, Rangers, Rifle Warriors, Thieves”

Yeah, I was gonna comment on this one but if the OP was sincere about the clarifications, I’d assume this would only be an even more minor peeve. Not sure about the others, but for the Warrior, I did run a Rifle build in dungeons for a bit (to tell you the truth, I ran quite a few different builds to get a feel for what I liked…basically using dungeons as personal tests which may not have been particularly polite but I keep other weapons around when I need them).

I enjoyed traited Rifle in Arah just because I found it fun and a nice change of pace to line up foes and unload on them where normally I wouldn’t be able to hit both because they weren’t close together. My hope is, when the devs say they are looking into making more builds viable, I hope they mean all the weapons. I don’t want to be looked at funny just because I’m not using a Greatsword or Axe.

—Entering the instance

I hesitate to say “if you’re not the party leader don’t enter the instance,” because there isn’t exactly a party leader. This is more aimed at people who join random groups; if you’re joining a group then you’re not the one that’s supposed to enter the instance. It’s not a serious infraction; my group always asks that the person exit the instance so our designated group leader can open up one.

Just a curiosity, are you taking the other party member’s perspective into consideration?

The issue with griefing in the game has made some (even me) suspicious of guild groups when I join and 3 or more are of the same guild. I won’t say I always try to enter the instance first (some griefers will simply have their 3 guys already inside before inviting) but I tend to take a pic of the group’s names before starting at the least.

Groups that request I exit if I was the one that entered usually make me particularly suspicious and I have to decide if I even want to risk wasting my time or giving the group a chance.

…just some perspective for you.

Mantra of Pain does less damage than your melee autoattack. It’s a waste of a slot.

It’s also a 2sec recharging mantra that can heal in an AoE for over 3k health without devoting anything to healing power.

I’m even appalled that you would suggest the staff as a PvE weapon. Its damage is horrendous in dungeons.

Staff = clones can shatter before being destroyed without investing in toughness or devoting traits/utilities to heartier illusions.

I also like how you completely lost track of the conversation.

When did we start talking about DPS mesmers? We’re talking about healing mesmers. Staff is a very good weapon in PvE for it’s overall utility. Are you arguing against that?

In full berserker a shout warrior will still heal for around 4k total, remove conditions, and offer boons like long duration fury to his party while doing substantial damage. Even in knights gear he’ll be outdamaging most specs that aren’t a thief.

Again, that’s sacrificing utility slots, runes and likely stats for healing. I’ve no doubt a warrior twinked out to heal for more than 2k per shout can still deal damage, but you overestimate the output if you think you can outdamage a decent condition warrior build or even a ranger pumping out consistent damage. Believe me, I’ve ran healing shout warriors and regen banner warriors in dungeons. Even in zerker gear, it’s tough making up that gap in damage that a non-support can do.

You might have a perfectly balanced and geared out (likely ascended) healing shout warrior build, but your insistence it still does competitive damage to a condition build (scoring 2k crits with 120+ bleeds and nearly 1k burns a tick) make me leery to take your word for it that it will outdamage a balanced elementalist build, a damage focused ranger build, etc.

Your claims are just way to dramatic to bother trusting.

Leo G.4501

I want to know how I get bones from Oozes, and also have some questions about “blood” from karkas, given that they’re obviously crustaceans.

Oozes, in a general RPG setting, have almost always, from the early primitive days of RPG’s, had remnants of their victims inside them that they dropped (well when RPG’s started having drops, the super early ones didn’t do that, you had to roll for random chance to recover a specific item…ect ect…it was a mess). King’s Quest, if anyone remembers that, had a few dungeons full of them and every single one had bones in it. Just go look at any Baldur’s Gate game, they were infested with oozes in half of the dungeons, and nearly every one of them had some kind of bone or other very solid material you wouldn’t expect in them.

I remember King’s Quest games but anything earlier than 4 is kind of blurry. Mostly . . . well, mostly because I was too young and my position in playing them was taking notes on where things were when we would (inevitably) need to backtrack.

. . . I don’t recall oozes/slimes involved . . . I do recall gelatinous cubes. (Those sons of . . . )

Um, I remember gelatinous cubes from the PS2 Balder’s Gate game. Yeah, they dropped coins >_>

Leo G.4501

Except mantras are horrible and you are either sacrificing null field/feedback/stunbreaker for it. It takes a considerable casting time — warrior shouts are instant. Oh, and most mantras outside mantra of recovery are terrible in dungeons.

You only really need 1 mantra for a mantra healing build: Mantra of Pain. You can still pick up one mantra and be judicial about the other two slots. If you need a stun breaker, Staff has one built in (pretty much).

And LOL at a ranger outDPSing a shout warrior. You put up a youtube of it and we’ll talk. A warrior even with shield/axe will outdamage anything a ranger can put out in most dungeon encounters. Testing on golems doesn’t come close to reflecting the damage of the pet in most encounters given that in Arah/fractals you can’t even run high DPS pets and the amount of time you’ll spend calling them back to you so they don’t die — cutting your damage in half.

I like how you put in those qualifiers like “in most dungeon encounters”.

I also don’t know in what world you live where a condition build will ever beat a berserker geared player in burst and sustained, let alone the stacking effectiveness of berserk vs. condition builds.

If you’re in berserker gear, then you’re not a shout heal warrior. 1.1k healing shouts is practically a waste of traits. A good condition build can come in a couple of varieties, being tanky while dishing out good condition damage or just really painful and long conditions with decent direct damage to supplement it. I’d have trouble believing a real healing shout warrior could out DPS a good condition build (as conditions serve usually as a supplement to the decent direct damage).

Don’t be a moron. A shout healing warrior will do more support, damage, and healing than a ranger will do.

How much damage can a shout warrior do? Once one figures that out, you can compare that to the potential DPS of a ranger. There are other variables, like sustain via defense, dodging and condition removal but you can leave that out to just compare DPS and healing. Once (if) you can get DPS around a shout warrior (I don’t think it’s going to be that hard) then you can start putting heals in the Ranger to see relative effectiveness.

I would guess that a Ranger can do more DPS than a shout healing warrior if built/played right (a condition warrior can outdamage one, so don’t see why a ranger couldn’t) as the Warrior would have to sacrifice quite a bit for effective shouting (30 trait points, 2 utility slots, some healing gear, maybe even runes). If the Ranger can be built to support by simply swapping a utility swap here or there, that’s a big difference in overall build flexibility.

Pretty much every class but the mesmer and thief has a decent way of healing others.

I’ve seen mesmer mantra healing builds that heal for more than shout healing without investing in healing power gear.

You’d say just because you bludgeoned a bear to death with a mace, why not get some type of fur/hide? Well, do you think your character should also spend 10-15min skinning the creature, wrapping the hide properly so it doesn’t get contaminated or mess up any other valuables in your inventory sacks? You don’t want the bloody fur getting your food and other equipment dirty, after all.

Twitch is obscure? Should we stream it on TheWeatherChannel.com ?

Obviously, they should update the forums so you’re capable of streaming your posts via video instead of just typing them out and people having to read them

They could definitely change a few of Elementalist’s attacks to make them more unique while also providing a bit of AoE through this update.

Curently though, Staff’s auto attack in water is a bit different in that it hits its target and then splashes an AoE heal around that target meaning the heal is concentrated around the target. If they were to change Staff water 1, I wouldn’t want that changed.. I like being able to aid the person fighting a target by attcking their target or a target near them.. If it were changed to a beam, I’d be expect it to create an AoE heal around the target and any targets within the stream, not heal any allies within the stream…they could change the way the attack works wholesale but I’d prefer they didn’t.

They could probably make all Scepter auto attacks into beams for elementalist and come out on top (a beam that burns all targets in a line, a beam that stacks vulnerability…keep earth the same I guess. The scepter autos are just not very good.

You’d be wrong. I have mostly experience with the supposed ‘trinity’ classes, just none with Ranger (or Necro).

You scream that I have no proof, because obviously hundreds of threads (crying about state of rangers) popping up all over these forums every day is not enough evidence. News flash: I don’t have to prove you kitten. You are not paying me to crunch numbers for you, so you go and try it. Come back when you have an informed opinion.

Several things:
-People scream about the state of EVERY profession (there’s a News flash for you).
-People are wrong more often than they are right.
-People rarely ever want to admit they are wrong or ignorant.
-I’m not asking you to crunch any numbers. But speaking in hyperbole just makes you sound wrong, increases the likelihood that you are wrong and puts yourself in the same boat as the rest of the sheep that will parrot what everyone else says even though they have no idea if it’s true or not.

If I were stupid enough to accept what hundreds of forum complainers say, I’d expect Warriors to be in hideous shape, unable to survive even a hit of dungeon aggression without scurrying off and swapping to rifle. This isn’t true in any case but the hundreds of forum posts screaming about the Omnomberry pies nerfed would have you believe otherwise.

Right now you just throwing baseless statement like “oh rangers can do all things”.

My outlandish opinion is that the community has outlandish opinions. That isn’t to say the reasonable people that say Ranger don’t quite measure up in certain aspects are outlandish or wrong. "Boon Hate" Discussion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Leo G.4501

Leo G.4501

People can just turn around so they’re not hit from behind, and they’ll be just as strong. A boon character can’t just rip off his boons and be just as good. And when that boon is from an the auto attacks, or on a majority of the skills, then they don’t have much of a choice, the enemy is just buffed against them.

It’s all relative to the situation and weighed accordingly. Yeah you can turn around to not be hit from behind, but your behind always exists and is an opportunity to take advantage of. The amount of danger you’re in vs a boon hater is proportional to how long you sit under the influence of a row of boons and how big that row is.

And who said the boon-hate would be on auto attacks or even the majority of skills? There could be many variables like a chance on a critical strike, or on specific utilities or on profession mechanics.

I still say it’s not debuffing yourself to boon haters (you still have the boon’s effects!), it’s just giving an opportunity to boon haters to score more damage just like a backstab thief, and having a behind to backstab isn’t a debuff.

And still still, I don’t really care for the concept of boon hate as described in the video. Seem like a boring afterthought mechanic that doesn’t really add more strategy to the game. I doubt people are going to go out of their way to go hunt people with lots of boons on…said characters will continue to regenerate health, take less damage, dodge all over the place and run around the map at a swift clip. Do people go out of their way to bust characters like this? Doing extra damage to such characters won’t negate any of the above.

You don’t know and you don’t trust me. Fine, then go and try it, end of story.

The reason trust isn’t happening is primarily because you say nothing to back it up besides “Everyone else admits it, so it’s True!!! Promise!”.

Yeah, no. People parade their opinion on things on the forum, always wildly generalizing things with misconceived theories, artificially generated scenarios mix with outright being wrong. And the error never wants to be corrected. The forum will go on thinking they’re right and regurgitating the same nonsense despite being wrong, despite evidence to the contrary. All you point to is War/Mesmer speed running CoF 1 and the number of shiny boons of a Guardian or the other posts bashing Ranger as evidence.

I don’t simply mistrust the opinion of the forums and yourself, I think it’s wrong. Utilizing a class and their weapons/tools properly can go a long way and I feel at least 40% of the back talk on the class is due to poor utilization. Another 30% is just the minority min/maxers theorycrafting scenarios.

Of course, I could be wrong in all of this, but it doesn’t seem like it. Maybe if the haters weren’t all talking in hyperbolish, their opinion might sound logical. But I could work on another bullet point on my lengthening list of “What the forums was wrong about”.

You’d be wrong. By the way you describe them, a ranger will get your party killed by just being there. IMO, alot of the talk giving about Ranger is the fact that they aren’t optimal but that’s far and away from being a detriment.

You deal in relative terms but fail to grasp the irony of it. Being suboptimal is a detriment.

Noun
1. The state of being harmed or damaged.
2. A cause of harm or damage.

Being suboptimal isn’t taking the HP out of your health orb nor putting more power in the hands of the enemy.

It is if you consider 5 optimal classes as a baseline.

It is what? Taking HP out of your health orb?

I’d like to see you prove that.

Are you playing stupid? You have 5 optimal classes. You replace one with suboptimal class. Clearly your group efficiency is at loss.
Whats so hard to understand here? You had more damage and support and now you have less. More becoming less is not harm to you?

I believe you were the one that started taking words out of context to bend their meaning for irony’s sake.

But I couldn’t comment on relative effectiveness as I have no basis to ground the opinion on (me having no experience with the profession personally), but in absolute terms you wouldn’t be better off with a 4 member group without a ranger vs a 5 member group with a ranger.

Would you turn up with less if you substituted one of your 5 members with a ranger? I couldn’t say but I wouldn’t count on the community being right. The community is so often wrong, it’s not even funny.

Everyone in the video is lvl 80 (if you are referring to the sticky). You used to be able to do the explorable dungeons when you were their advertised level (eg. 35 for AC explore). Now it’s virtually impossible unless you have a full group of 80s.

If the dev’s intend you to be 80 when doing the dungeon, or have all masterwork armor (which most 35s don’t) — they should say so on the entrance pop-up.

You make it sound like having Masterwork gear at 35 is impossible or something. Come on, now.

Yeah, for reference, I spent less than 7 silver on the gear I used in the video.

-Go look up the prices for Vigorous and/or Ravaging Gloves, Leggings and Boots on trading post (range from 30-90 copper)
-Go look up the price of Potent Marks/Talismans (range from 35-50 copper)
-Go look up the price of Minor Sigil of Corruption (no more than 1 s 50 c)
-Everything else I bought with karma from vendors I met while leveling.

The game practically gives you Masterwork equipment on a silver platter.

The problem with having one big thread is people are like: YOUR GIVING Them this and this at the same time!!! OP OP OP!!!

I just have my ideas thrown around now, because of that.

So you throw around your ideas, whether they stick or not, only to be forgotten when nobody cares anymore? There could be very useful ideas people can pick up and transpose to enhance other ideas that are being forgotten because they didn’t keep up with your dozens of other threads.

…also, people are getting weary of all the threads now.

Don’t mind reading ideas but why not consolidate them in one thread instead of making a new one every time? That’s literally 75% of the reason I’m even letting myself post in this one, to ask you to just make one thread on Warrior mitigation improvements.

To stay on topic: I wouldn’t mind an update to stances to either improve their overall effectiveness or to synergize better with traits (the whole 1 extra second for such-and-such stance trait is crap and the other passive stance traits are decent, but bugged in some cases).

I even like the idea of a more toggle-like stance mechanic, but 1% health per-second is not going to cut it. 1% of a 22,000 HP pool is 220 HP/second which can be covered by regen alone…if you have 18k HP, kitten Adrenal Health will dang near negate that. Not only is it kitten easy to bypass, but it penalizes you for slotting vitality as once you hit over 30kHP, it becomes harder for plain regen to negate, resulting in eventually being forced to turn it off or requiring more effort like active healing to overcome vs a non-vit warrior who simply needs a Adrenal Health and/or some regen food.

I note that a lot of people supportive of this possible change play Thieves and/or Warriors.

As a Guardian, if I use a Mace, Greatsword or Hammer, my auto-attack will essentially give you Regen, Might or Protection, or give you a damage boost. A lot of my other attacks, and most of my utilities, will do the same, some more than others. Essentially all of my buffs, which are the centrepiece of the Class, will be giving me a debuff and/or giving you a buff. And you wonder why Guardians are concerned?

Nah, I think you guys are just viewing the change out of perspective.

Consider a Thief. They can do more damage to a target from behind. Since people have a behind, that isn’t a debuff, that’s just a momentary opportunity to attack. You can still dodge or position yourself so not to be hit from behind.

Someone that gains an opportunity to attack a target with many boons, you still have all the advantages of all those boons and you can simply dodge/block a boon-hate attack as well.

Basically, stacking a line of boons and not preparing to block/dodge a boon-hater is like watching a thief stealth and standing still.

People don’t come up with a class to hate on just for the sake of hating. Rangers are bad – that is just the reality, and the hate reflects that quite well.

You’d be wrong. By the way you describe them, a ranger will get your party killed by just being there. IMO, alot of the talk giving about Ranger is the fact that they aren’t optimal but that’s far and away from being a detriment.

I’ve been keeping my eye on Ranger lately, both in groups and on the forums. I’m interested in rolling one if only to see just how ‘bad’ it is. But I’m waiting a bit longer in hopes there will be an update soon that introduces a new race as I have my heart set on making a Tengu Ranger…but I’ll settle for whatever new race crops up.

There definitely shouldn’t be a trait that causes consistent bonus damage against boons, like “+1% damage for each boon on the target”

Hopefully not, because that would be a horribly crappy trait. The most you can do with this trait is 8% extra damage since there are only 8 types of boons (technically 9 but Aegis will simply nullify the attack). 8% extra damage to a target running every boon is so pitiful you might as well not bother.

What I’m expecting, is when I go into a dungeon, and get beaten into a bloody pulp, that I can say “that was totally my own fault”. That is the difference between a fair challenge and an unfair challenge. Being insta-killed by a trap that you couldn’t see coming, makes you hate the challenge itself. Its unfair, because unless you knew ahead of time that trap was there, you couldn’t possibly have prevented the death from happening. And while you may say “well, that’s the point of traps, isn’t it?”, this is still a game, and players want to have fun. Even in a really difficult challenge, a certain forgiveness must be present in order to give the players a fair challenge.

Your argument here is about traps. So name the traps that instantly kill you that feel unfair.

There are a few but not many in AC (try to think of one…nope, actually there are none in AC). Things like the flaming statue heads, yes they can down you and then kill you, but that isn’t instant death. I’ve picked up people that got caught by the flames before (Glyph of Renewal in Air attunement teleports people to you) but regardless, it’s a pattern you can learn without experiencing being killed by it.

Beyond all that, you forget this is a game. You can die and come right back as many times as you want. That is your forgiveness right there. Your other comment, again, fun is subjective.

I’m not attacking people’s criticisms about the dungeon redesign (if you have a specific part of the dungeon you genuinely feel is unfair, why not speak about that part and explain why you feel that way?) but I am going to argue the points of a game, learning, how it can be fun and interesting and if the danger of failure isn’t there, it will be farmed endlessly with no effort which ultimately rots the community at its core.

What did you expect? They talked about us for two minutes.
The time they took to discuss each profession is directly linked to the amount of attention they are giving to the profession.

No it’s not, stop being an idiot.

Two of the players interviewing the game reps were mesmer players (dunno about the 3rd) and likely the reps themselves aren’t a good representation of this particular profession. Heck, even I’ll admit that listening to the reps talk, they sounded like they were put on the spot and hardly knew what they were talking about…across all professions.

It’s a shame yeah that your profession didn’t get as much spotlight in the interview as you’d have liked, but stop lying to yourself.
