You can always buy the influence. slowly and surely
Just 2g a week from each member would already go a long way to unlocking that.
Oh man that makes it sound so much worse.. A guild should never require its members to donate. Guilding should never be a privilege that should be afforded. Guilds that ask for money are just asking for trouble.
The only thing I don’t like is how this game has become more about how much time you’ve played. If someone has a cool weapon not from a dungeon you know it’s because they’ve got at least 1000 hours played or they were super super lucky and got something other then crafting mats to drop or they bought gold with gems.
I used to be able to play GW1 for 1-2 hours everyday and feel like I got somewhere. 2 hours in GW2 feels like it gets me no where.
^This exactly.. But with RNG, 10 hours vs an hour makes no difference even. 10 hours worth of gaming won’t secure you a precursor unless you plan on buying it via TP.
Well, to each their own. I know a lot of people are upset, but I got the game at launch and am still really enjoying it. I know there are many posts about disgruntled players, but generally there are many more people having fun and you just don’t realize it because they’re too busy playing the game instead of posting on the forums.
Probatio diabolica. I’ve played the game since beta, and I felt like it changed too much over a period of 6 months. It was a different matter when after getting our exotics we can focus solely on making our legendaries. When it started, dailies FELT optional, but now we have to do dailies for the sake of getting laurels or else we will get left behind in gears. Guilds meant differently then too, big guilds are not necessary in gaining equipments. Feb update has got to be the worst update yet.
This isn’t playing for fun anymore..
I feel like the game has detracted too far away from GW1’s model. The monthly updates we got only made things feel more tedious.
Finally, a reason to take a bit of a time off of gw2.. I shall wait for the march update instead.
just think of how much we’d need for an ascended weapon/armor when they come out. great!
At this rate, it’ll probably take us half a year to get an ascended weapon alone.
I think these transfers are only important to those people who are so invested in wvw. With PvX players, servers hardly matter apparently.
@OP: Its OK, you dont need to worry about that shortbow because you’ll never get it. Not without 100 tries in the mystic toilet, or dropping 600 gold on a precursor alone. Because spending ingame currency and BUYING your way to epicness is a step toward being legendary and unique.
@topic: I would much rather grind for skins than stats(ahem fractals). Why ascended needs to have an increase in stats? I dont know.
I want a reason to go to low level zones I’ve already completed and participate in DEs.
I want to be able to get that legendary after 3 or 4 months of farming. No, farming 600 gold for 6 months and THEN farming for the rest of the mats doesn’t make it legendary.
This. People who say precursors are ok as they are probably got them out of sheer luck and wouldn’t understand how it really is for us regular folks. I’ve worked towards my legendary, wishing I would get a precursor while in the process of finishing up the gifts, I have been playing for a long time and yet a precursor still evades me. It is definitely frustrating. Grinding for gold is not what I expected from GW2.
I don’t mind paying for them so long as the problems in the first GW2 is fixed and that the content of the expansion is as vast as GW1’s.
I thought I would have fun towards making a legendary as the ‘end game’ but grinding for the sake of having enough gold to get a precursor is ridiculously tedious. WvW would be a good ‘end game’ if it offered more.. As it is now, I’ve gotten pretty bored with the system already.
Why should a precursor (a weapon at that) be so rare that it usually ends up as the last part in making a legendary. As a weapon, shouldn’t they have a purpose like being equipped rather than sitting in storage waiting for the price to go up or something?
Because its a precursor? that’s in its name.
And that’s the only item that makes Legendary unique. Everything else you’ll get with easy. Without even trying. Simply playing the game. You can get a precursor that way as well, don’t get me wrong, but usually you have to actually work towards one to get it.
A precursor doesn’t have to be a weapon. Nor does it make the legendary “unique”. Each legendary requires a gift of “legendary name” already anyway. And exactly because there is no method to acquire a precursor other than gambling or buying off the TP is the problem. BTW, what ‘requires’ work is the gift of mastery.

This is a case of Tier 1 entitlement. Even after JQ “stacked” their server SoS was still stronger than every other server after JQ. Ah but once you get a taste of T1 victory, that isn’t good enough. The prospect of eventually dropping a tier and no doubt achieving victory there just doesn’t seem that enticing. Does Amarathy think MERC would lose all their gains after they log off in a Tier 2 match in the same fashion that they do against JQ? Of course not. Sure these guilds were having fun in T4/T3 a few months ago but the thought of moving backwards and having fights just as good as those old ones? Sorry, they crave the limelight now.
I don’t wanna name names, nor am I qualified to judge anyone else, but it sure doesn’t seem like the guild that Jedahs used to run. It is their prerogative I know, it just leaves a sour aftertaste after everything that Jedahs said and done for the server. Of all the guilds leaving SOS, this is the one I’m most disappointed about.
So ultimately, WvW isn’t about server pride or loyalty. It’s just a group of guilds versus another group of guilds. They just happen to represent a server at a specific moment, but is far less reflective of its entirety.
Ultimately, Guild Wars 2 is about having fun. What you conceive as fun may not be what others do. I am sure you can respect that.
Touché. Afterall, a game is just a game. The reasons by which we justify our actions always fall under our right to have fun. I’m just questioning those people who made me believe in server pride and loyalty and history and all that before.

I’ve always been in SoS and I have no intention of leaving it for any reason. Oceanics will always be here. With the patch for wvw being delayed further, I don’t even see any reason to do wvw at the moment. At least this will give us some space to focus on Guild Missions.
It’s declined by 1. I’ve gotten so fed up with the way precursors are acquired in the game that I’ve decided to play when the scavenger hunt thing is implemented or something. -_- As it is now, I’m not even given enough time to “enjoy” precursors as a weapon seeing as it mostly ends up as the last thing people get.
I’ve gotten so fed up in farming for the precursor I need that I’ve decided to play another game instead while waiting for this scavenger thing to be implemented. Grinding for the precursor is still the worst part of making a legendary, regardless if the other gifts cost more or not. It forces me to run the fastest way to earn silver and that’s via CoF path 1 runs and I feel so limited doing so. I’ve also gotten tired of trying to test my luck via MF. If saving up gold just to buy a precursor from the TP is the best way to earn it, then I feel like there’s got to be something wrong.
Blood+Illumination. Never fails.
we’ve digressed too far from the original topic.. :O
it’ll be an interesting plotline should the humans try to “convert” the other races into their religion..
why don’t you sell some of the precursors? you can’t equip 5 weapons in 1 character anyway :p
I’ve never had a precursor as a random drop. T_T Please let me experience it Anet!
I particularly dislike that Glint’s status in GW1 was reduced in GW2. I feel like it seems more contrived than organic in the development of the lore.
Hmm, it makes me think.. Maybe they can redo the weapon master achievement in which only by getting 5,000 kills via a specific weapon type can one upgrade his weapon to a precursor.
Nice idea on how precursors should be used. It can also tie in with the weapon master achievement.
Hey you didn’t know about the buy back option in merchants?! That sucks so much lol.
The problem here is the WHY. Why should we prioritize and rush [important] earning the gold to buy off the TP? Because the price is bound to get higher the longer it takes you. It doesn’t matter if you farm your gifts now or months after, because the required effort to get them remains the same relatively. If one takes a break in trying to earn the gold for a precursor, the effort grows disproportionately because of how much the price rises. Which I find distasteful really.
yea I hope so too.. at least if it’s a scavenger hunt, it holds the same merit in doing it first before working on the gifts, as opposed to saving your gold then buying it asap from the TP first only because the price will go up.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
I understand your point, but what you’re saying doesn’t really speak ‘legendary’ to me. Grind gold then TP as opposed to farm the mats going around the world and actually earning the mats and gaining ‘mastery’ over various aspects of the game. The difference here is that getting the gifts in various locations at least gives a sense of purpose as opposed to just randomly killing stuff (i.e. doing stuff what you want to do) which becomes more aimless than anything.
Ideally, imho, while working on each of the gifts required for a legendary, one should be able to at least get the precursor one needs, but that rarely happens. The drop rate is too low that farming mobs is almost moot in attempting to acquire them as a drop. Ultimately, one ends up finishing the gifts he needs and never getting a hold of the precursor.
So a question that comes to mind is why then, should these precursors be weapons, if equipping them is either disadvantageous financially (they mostly only end as investments sitting in storage) or too late since it usually ends up as the last part needed in making the legendary.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
Yes but don’t specific mobs drop the mats you specifically want? Should they drop precursors though, you won’t know if it’s what you want/need.. At least in MF you have a bit more control. Anyway, I’m referring more towards the assurance that the relationship between one’s actions and the reward one wants is a bit more concise.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
LOL a shady analogy at best but I am partial towards humans myself so I have to agree. Anyway, I also agree that the gw2 lore feels more like a retcon than an actual expansion on gw1’s lore as well.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
if this is in reference to ‘physical progression’ then I will agree with you. otherwise farming vs buying mats with farmed gold makes little difference other than the mindset that you did not ‘buy’ the mat.
I guess what matters is how you feel about your playtime whether it be farming gold and indirectly obtaining what you need vs directly farming for what you need. a surprising number of players feel like their time is wasted indirectly buying mats, which i think is strange since the outcome is exactly the same.
Yea I’m referring to the difference in acquiring, not the price or time spent. As per you argument, the optimum way to get a precursor is doing speed runs in CoF path 1 over and over to get enough gold to buy a precursor off of the TP – the other method (MF) is simply impractical. Getting gifts, however, is more varied – more left to taste than anything. It can be acquired via farming them where they drop (I don’t know whether this method is actually faster or slower than right off buying it from the TP via speed runs), but you have to agree that the options of favorable paths towards acquiring them is more diverse.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
The biggest difference is how the gifts are obtained as compared to a precursor, not the price per se. I don’t think anybody has ever bought every single material they’ve used in the gifts and this makes a lot of difference. Making the gifts also gives a better sense of accomplishment than taking the same amount of time and getting 1 item that will only be sitting on your inventory until you’ve finished collecting several, smaller pieces. Is it better to keep on grinding 1 dungeon (CoF path 1 for example) to try to get the gold you need asap to buy a precursor or go around the world – either in PvE or WvW, farming for the mats you need?
Ideally, I’d rather get the gifts while wielding the precursor to at least get a sense of attachment to it. It comes with a very hefty price afterall, might as well use it. But at the moment, it’s not possible for everyone.
What I don’t understand is why it should be the hardest part of a legendary to acquire (limited to either grinding gold or luck).
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
yes. both of mine. IMO pres are the first thing any legendary chaser should get. just doesn’t seem ‘right’ to have this long journey only to get the weapon last, never use it and suddenly ‘imbue’ it with legendary properties.
to each his own, though. some pres are just…not attractive so that might be a reason as well as their costliness
I agree. I feel like precursors should be the first to be acquired in making a legendary. However, as it is now, most of the precursors cannot be acquired unless we grind for the gold… The other mats can be acquired in a much better pace imho.
In my case, I knew what legendary i was going to make first, but I just couldn’t bear equipping the precursor thinking it might be better as an investment instead since it’s a bit expensive.
I find some of the mesmer traits to be ill-placed, severely limiting viable builds. I hope they do something about it soon.
I feel like it’s being wasted, very few people equip their precursors mostly because it’s the last thing they get…
What’s a fun thing to do while waiting for my precursor to happen? I’m so bored to death farming gold just to be able to buy it from TP. I have the worst luck in MF. Grinding so much is making me bored with the game.
-- that’s just.. ugh. very.. i don’t even have a word for it. --
Well, it’s been 250 years since GW1, perhaps Cantha hasn’t remained strictly oriental then. But really, I’m so disappointed to know the reason for the great collapse. I’m asian myself, but help me understand.. Is it racist that the cultures were blended, thus the negative feedback?
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
Asia is such a huge continent that we don’t have to limit it to just China/Japan you know… Cantha’s inspiration could be drawn from a huge number of other oriental influences. A GW2 ritualist, for example, could just as well be drawn from filipino origin and still retain it’s image back in GW1.
with another person without risking being scammed (via mail) or paying for listing fees. In your opinion, say I want to trade the legendary I’ve made for another one because I changed my main, what is the best way to go?
Oddly, when I think of a precursor for a legendary, I feel like it should be the EASIEST to get among the requirements. It’s just an exotic item, something to be improved upon. Such as in tales where the weapon a hero has been wielding his entire quest ONLY becomes legendary due to the feats it has accomplished and how it served its master. The journey should be the priority imho; the Gifts makes me feel more like I deserve the title Legendary.
So I now have the precursor – it’s time to set into a big adventure to make it legendary or something to that effect. :/ As it is now, we are required to grind for gold or to hire an accountant, totally unrelated to being legendary.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
As it stands now, however, if you want the pretty, shiny object, you need to be either really lucky, or learn to trade well.
I agree and the idea of it isn’t appealing to me personally. I do not want ingame market to be a determining factor for creating a legendary. Staying and monitoring the TP as opposed to immersing oneself into the game diminishes it. The way the precursors are currently achievable detracts from the concept and is perhaps the most frustrating aspect of it. Luck and trading (as it is now) shouldn’t play too grand of a part in achieving the symbol for mastering the game.
I dont want ascended armors. i’m fine with ascended weapons and jewelry.
I’m really sad that the ritualist is likely not to get included in gw2. Even if they make it the weakest profession, if it stays true to the spirit (pardon the pun) of the character in gw1 , I would’ve played gw2 forever.
The ritualist and mesmer, I think, set GW1 apart from the other games. I haven’t played any game that felt similar to them. I don’t think the real essence of the professions were translated very well in GW2 (assuming guardian/engineer are the new ritualists).
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
I think the problem is the method of acquiring it that’s problematic, not the price. It isn’t very friendly to new players. Unless they have tremendous luck, they won’t be able to buy it if they’ve just started. Ever.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
I wish there was some way us asians can purchase those gem cards too. 1$ = 1php rate as well. That’ll the day I die happy.
The thing i like most about these missions is that how much a server scores in wvw is no longer the sole indication that it has the ‘best’ guilds.
My favorite phantasm is the traited iWarden. No other phantasm makes me feel safe beside them except for traited wardens.
