Im tired of wvw. Staying out of it since the patch has already fixed fotm i can finally get the ascended rings. No new updates on it that makes it more interesting. It’s a blessing in disguise that we are third this week. Alleviates the pressure off and gives us time to work on pve. Congrats to jq for winning.

The legendary that needed an upgrade the most remains untouched. My minstrel is still a legendary only i can appreciate because of its bird desigb sigh.

I’m sure we’ll find a ninja nerf somewhere. Us mesmers ALWAYS gets nerfed right? Why break tradition now? T_T

Here is why I chose the forgotten specifically:

My PC can’t handle zerging so I’m stuck to flipping camps by myself and yakslapping. I usually have no problems 1 vs 1 anyone tbh. In wvw I feel more like a slave. I’m told to portal this, timewarp that, pull this off the wall, reflect that. Us poor mesmers are abused.

This. I think I’ve said this before but I feel like Anet traded appeal for originality a bit too much.

Let them take the number 1 spot because SOS sucks. Then we can have legitimacy to our claims AND get the transfers we need.

Grats on the legendary! Maybe you can consider its stats in choosing which profession you would like to equip it on because as it is now, we cannot change it.

Yea I wish it would hold some sort of significance, like how NPCs interact with you or something… They should make it matter. I mean I don’t really connect with my character’s default personality that I feel like it’s not personal at all. Usually moral alignments in game are very important. They decide how your character grows in skill, aesthetics, etc. I wish our personality choice will reflect who we really are.

Hmm the fact that the forgotten were able to use magic that could not be corrupted by the elder dragons imply to me that they cannot consume ALL kinds of magic.

I just wish they would find a way to make WvW and PvE a bit more cohesive. The way it is now, I think sharing PvP items and WvW would’ve been better.

I’m also one of those people who was apprehensive at the thought of making a legendary. It seemed too out of reach. But as I played I was able to get the things I need without actually sacrificing too much of my time doing things I don’t want. Now I’m working towards my 2nd legendary, and I have enough spare gold from my first that I was able to buy the things I like (like t3 cultural armor set and exotic mini).

The thing is, the road to making the legendary shouldn’t be rushed. You’ll get the things you want in time. They won’t be adding any tier higher than it and so you aren’t gonna miss out on being a bit slower in making it. Ascended items are what worried me initially, seeing as how they were attainable was severely limited (but the patch is going to redeem this i hope).

Trust me, I am by no means a TP player nor a grinder. Sure I may have gotten lucky from gambling with the Mystic Forge, but I was willing to take risks and it usually pays off. I’m so far into getting my 2nd legendary that sometimes I feel like I’m undertaking an impossible task. But I know it’s gonna happen eventually even if I play the game the way I enjoy.

I almost never replace Phantasmal Defender with Signet of Illusion (for when I really need to use distortion) for my Hybrid Phantasm build. It’s really helpful especially when partied with a guardian or elem who can heal it constantly.

The only skills I do not use though are mimic and veil. The rest comes in handy depending on the situation.

What I think is being said is that dropping names in accusations that aren’t 100% proven is not nice. Let us not generalize from isolated acts. Let us refer to each other as our individual names. SOS, JQ and BG invader.

This is why I dropped my shatter build for a phantasm build. Too complicated lol.

Seriously though, I understand how valuable IP is and because of this, it limits us in creating other “shatter builds” without taking the trait. Not taking it is too big of a compromise. Phantasm and Mantra are much more flexible imho (trait-wise) that builds generally differ from one another than current shatter build trends.

I think the problem with BG is that they lose morale when they get pushed down a bit during times that they lack coverage and thus less people participate. But if how much points you guys get ahead of SoS and JQ during the first day or two is any indication, I think you’re far more formidable than we are giving you credit for.

This is just a baseless assumption so take it with a grain of salt. (I don’t understand what it means. Why salt? I’d rather have sugar)

I actually like having these things useable in wvw. They provide an interesting dynamic in strategies and makes them actually worthy of being purchased. It also ties the wvw+pve aspect that arenanet designed.

Wow so hot this early? I thought by now we already know that reset points mean kitten in the long run.

well to be fair, zhaitan himself wasn’t all that impressive. he’s got tons of minions sure but that laser thingy used in killing him kinda abates the huge hype. :/ I certainly felt underwhelmed as compared to fighting the rogue gods.

I’ve never felt like Staff is a primary weapon for berserker builds. I use staff for my phantasm build now but I consider my sword/focus my main weapon set. However, whenever I use GS, I feel like it’s the primary weapon and that difference alone (melee vs ranged playstyle) should be a huge consideration when choosing.

Man the last few days of this week’s wvw is beyond awesome. Great fights everywhere. SOS may fall, it’s inevitable, but not tonight.

I’m working towards getting a vision of the mist after I’m done with my 2nd legendary. It reminds me of psylocke’s psychic katana and I’d like my character to look like her.

That’s the thing, it isn’t necessarily ‘giving up’ if it is to play for 2nd this week. Playing smart and playing for 2nd just for the sake of being 2nd are two different things.

If it is not plausible to reach 1st at the moment and that certain strategies will yield a better outcome (Being in 2nd is still better than being 3rd), it is wiser to choose that better option.

I’m not in any way trying to establish an alliance between servers, or implying any server is playing poorly. I’m sure everyone has a plan. I’m just saying that playing for 2nd isn’t something negative by default. If someone’s current capacity isn’t able to meet the required coverage to be first, there is still honor in trying to place 2nd.

Sea of sorrows is probably the closest to an official Oceanic server (if it isn’t already). You’ll find the community very accommodating and helpful. Join us now. The server isn’t full.

Blackouts are gaming the system to get a guild on a server they might not otherwise be able to get on. They are very short sighted by both parties in my opinion.

They will be able to get on regardless, they only have to wait for the server to register Very High instead of Full on random (unpredictable) times, blackouts merely provide a specific time instead (Being able to transfer is inevitable, servers fluctuate from Full to Very High all the time). This topic is already moot anyway seeing as population cap seems to have been increased.

Sorry but I don’t understand what running through a doorway means exactly (I’m not familiar with this). If it means phasing through a closed gate of a keep or tower via some means of stealth then I agree that it is exploitative. If running through though means someone running past an army undetected via stealth.. how is that abuse? Again, it is semantics that we disagree on. I don’t like calling it an abuse because the negative connotation of the word diminishes the person/guild being referenced when in fact, people are just maximizing their gains/advantage.

I do see a difference. A portal bomb can be used tactically to attack behind an enemy. The side affect of the portal bomb is culling abuse. However, there are methods such as running through a doorway or running out from behind a building in large group that are being used just to abuse the culling. There really is no strategic advantage to running through a doorway other than to exploit the culling. Heck, you can even say it’s a disadvantage strategically since the other side with less people can use the doorway as a choke point. However, the significant advantage from exploiting the culling outweighs the disadvantage of a smaller group using the doorway as a choke point. Hence, large guilds like Tsym who is well known for this will continue to use it.

Ok so what you mean is that some people are better at using a tactic than others. I agree with that. Tactics are meant to gain an advantage. Though what you said is true that its success is situational.

Wow I like the idea a lot. Most people think there is no way that ritualists can come back to GW2 seeing as some of their quirks have been distributed among the other classes but this post provides an interesting viewpoint on how the ritualist can still be unique yet maintain its identity in GW2.

I’m ashamed we are even giving this tired culling issue (portal bombing/mass stealth, OP thieves) recognition still. Whether it is unethical or illegal or immoral (lol) is simply up to taste at this point.

It’s an interesting subject to discuss definitely. However, with the lack of sufficient data, I think we won’t be able to back up our speculations as more than mere preference. I’d like to think gods and dragons are roughly equal in power, and that the disappearance is likely related to the awakening but not because they are afraid.

Outside of condition builds focus is just trash besides skill #4, and that skill is good for covering ground or pulling people down from things.

Covering ground is very important in WvW. You can’t help win a fight if you don’t get your zerg there before it’s over.

Once I got used to the speed at which I moved around WvW, not having it just felt far too slow.

As a fellow focus enthusiast, I wish you good luck. It is a difficult weapon to master but yields better results when wielded properly.

So now it’s down to semantics. Sigh.

We aren’t increasing the cap of people able to enter wvw at a single time. The servers as per their definition is about choosing which server to represent. If they want to represent the server (transfer), they will use the same mechanic – waiting for enough people to log out so that they can join. A blackout is not cheating the system, it is simply to give way for people to choose a specific server to REPRESENT in wvw when they decide to go online. Sure you may say it makes one gain a tactical advantage by having enough people for a more expansive coverage, but as per cheating the system per se, it is NOT an exploit. Server population is not intended to prevent people from representing the server, rather it is merely indicative as to who are representing the server on a given time and that the hardware cannot accommodate you to choose to represent it now. Artificial or not, no mechanics are being exploited as it does not trick the system into handling more than it can. Server capacity cannot be abused or misused.

I don’t mean to dismiss your concerns, but couldn’t the same be said about a lot of things? “My friends and I wanted to go to the 6:30 showing of a popular film but it was sold out.” “We tried to book dinner reservations on Saturday, but they can’t fit us in until next week.” “The first available appointment for your doctor is next Thursday.” “The flight was booked solid.” Maybe the most apt analogy is, “I went Christmas shopping and it took me 30 minutes to find a parking space.”

I have seen the same server/world situation since Asheron’s Call (which was a long, long time ago). Servers have capacities and there’s no way (that I can think of) to get around that — it’s a hardware situation that must be accommodated, much as a telephone system has a specific limitation on the number of calls that it can handle.

Please note that GW2 world capacities are adjusted from time to time; in fact that happened quite recently. More importantly, world population changes take place daily when individual players move to a different world, when guilds switch worlds, etc.. And I don’t know of anyone who has this problem for more than a few days.

I understand your thoughts about a “transfer queue” system. I mentioned it to a co-worker, because I think the idea has MERIT. We came up with some questions about the process, basically, “How would that work?”

What if you were in the middle of a dungeon and got the message? Would queueing cause people to abandon parties? What if you were offline, would such a queue simply move you without your consent? (We don’t even do that from overflow to normal worlds right now — you must indicate you do wish to move.) If you declined to move because you were in the middle of playing, what happens — do you drop to the bottom of the queue or do you get asked again and again until you accept?

Basically, this sounds good in theory, but there seem to be a lot of questions about how it would work in a functional sense. I will see if I can ping a developer about this, but you’d do well to post this in the Suggestions Forum, because that is reviewed daily and it would catch the eye of devs over there.

The bottom line is that your home world situation isn’t really an account issue. It’s related to your account, yes, but this forum is built more to address access issues and questions about things like suspensions, policies that result in timeouts, etc. So with all due respect I’m going to lock this thread and encourage you to post in the GW2 Suggestions and/or Discussion forum.

Heck from this reply from gaile, I don’t think blackouts are even necessary. They just have to remain in overflow so that people can join the server they want. So now are you gonna say that choosing to remain in overflow is an exploit too? If it was, you should be forced to transfer to your server if a slot is available. I don’t understand why you guys are frowning upon the idea of allowing people to transfer so they can represent the server they want once they are online.

You cannot move to a world that is listed as Full. However, that status varies throughout the day and tends to drop during off-peak hours, i.e. if you are unable to transfer, try again when there are fewer people playing, e.g. early in the morning (server time) or during the work week.

How is this an exploit again?

That is an example of the logical fallacy of division; because the game contains systems that do not work does not inherently mean that any arbitrary system within the game does not work.

I was kind of hoping that the insinuation would be focused on in my post more so than the exact words I said, but I guess I’ll spell it out for you.

The fact that mass logging off WILL make a server go down to High instead of Full (The very reason this thread exists means it obviously works), means that THAT system is also not working as intended. Unless of course the Anet devs don’t even know how their own systems are supposed to work.

If they’re saying Server Population is tied to accounts on that server, yet all you have to do is log off to free up space, then it is an improperly working system. That is a simple fact.

People are arguing with me that explanation given by Eva here means that a server is full due to the number of people currently logged in and playing on the server at that point in time.

This is all so wrong. ANet has confirmed repeatedly (check many pages back in the developer tracker) that server populations are not determined by how many people are online, but by how many accounts are linked to a server. The only way for a server to drop from “Full” to “High” is if people from that server transfer to another server, freeing up their spot for someone else.

If this is the case, then logging off will not have any effect on a server’s population status. You are not asked to choose a server every time you log in. And if this is really how a server population is determined, then it just means that the capacity to register new accounts to “FULL” servers haven’t reached its maximum yet. Regardless of the mechanics, black outs are not exploitative.

I think the major guilds coordinate to have all their members log off at the same time for a short time period. The population status is determined by the amount of people online, so this would take it down a notch from full, allowing people to transfer there.

So you are suggesting that they may be artificially making the population appear lower to cheat server limits?

You could consider it an exploit, yes. But far from all exploits are shunned by Arena Net, with some even being widely accepted.

Clearly, what you are saying here is that holding blackouts for transfers is an exploit. The only thing that’s clear to me is that you don’t like the reason why it is being held – for wvw. Regardless of the intention though, it is NOT an exploit.
