It helps to comprehend the entirety of my point (instead of taking replies out of context). Your selective attention is demeaning. I actually suggested that allowing duels in out-of-combat areas in PvE (such as the major cities and camps, although if we want to duel underwater, we should be allowed that too) as a good option for those who dislike the idea of dueling anywhere unrestricted.

My point is that a compromise can be made. I want dueling to be available, allowing me the liberty to fight someone of another race and assume dominance as per my toon’s human supremacist role play (via exclusively racial skill skirmishes) for example. I was addressing those people who would rather not have the feature at all that hasn’t provided any valid argument yet.

It seem to me that you are confusing dueling with PK. Having the option to duel doesn’t diminish the co-op nature of the game, PK does. What cataclysmic event will an option to duel someone bring really? Unwanted whispers? OMG I declined a request for a duel and now he is going to badger me about it! The world is going to end. Let’s panic. You generalize duelists with negativity senselessly.

*ALSO, most games that have duels doesn’t end with the losing player punished with exp loss or whatever. The duel just ends with the declaration of the winner. The loser only suffers a blow to his ego as the consequence. I’m sure he’ll recover.

I wish you guys good luck on your recruitment. I think what sets JQ apart from others is its relative population stability (as reflected in its tier rank history). I think it speaks loads about the loyalty and dedication of its players to the server. A solid community is indeed very appealing.

Wow great tips! Thank you very much! A question regarding the 20/0/0/20/30 build though, seeing as it does not have deceptive evasion, how do i play it successfully? I imagine it will use Imbued Diversion as opposed to Illusionary persona? Perhaps I should use a scepter instead of a 1h sword?

EDIT: Ok after taking your advices into consideration, I have made this build.. It’s supposed to be an alternative berserker phantasm that supports via glamor and phantasm regen build that can also support via the staff (the iWarlock still provides a good amount of damage despite me not being built around conditions i assume?). However, this build relies too much on melee for damage. I dunno I’m confused, I’d really like to hear your opinion on this build and tweaks that I should make. I think this would’ve been better if I had power/toughness/condition equips no? (or is there even one?)

This is an attempt on my part to make the 1h/focus my primary set because I haven’t seen any mesmer that is built around being melee. Staff is my secondary weapon and acts as a support. I’m rolling opal orbs right now in my armor and sigils of energy and so I would like some ideas on what to replace them with..

I’m replacing decoy with veil on the first pic because I dont want my phantasms to be overwritten

The second build makes use of the phantasmal defender to give support instead.. but suffers from no condition removal aside from warden+curtain combo unless I replace decoy with phantasmal disenchanter. Signet of illusions is there (aside from the HP it provides my illusions) so that I have the option to use more of my shatters for defensive purposes.

I don’t understand, why not just recruit people yourselves? Do something about it proactively, not reactively. Stop dictating what other people should or should not do because of your idealization. No one is dismissing the fact that SOS does have good coverage, and aims to further improve it, what’s so wrong with that? Heck, SOS’s overall advantage against other t1 servers aren’t that massive anyway. JQ has already proven that by defeating us.

There must be better alternative strategies than badmouthing SOS.

And you especially want this to occur in a Player vs Environment setting where Player vs. Player doesn’t occur. Could you also let me know the significance PvE holds for you such that it makes it necessitate PvP.

Umm, because we aren’t allowed to use racial skills in sPvP, making races purely aesthetic? Let me dumb it down for you: I want to be able to use my racial skills (that which sets me apart from a Norn, Sylvari, etc other than my looks) in a duel.

*BTW that post you quoted was in response to the people who claim we don’t need a dueling system because there already is one akin to it (or at least ‘serves the same purpose’): sPvP rooms.

I think this is the reason why SBI used to be so strong. WM’s perspective and approach is that of a winner’s. I personally would like WM to join SOS but as it is nigh impossible, I would just like to wish you good luck and see you again in the wvw battlefield.

I just deem it illogical that people say SOS shouldn’t/doesn’t deserve the influx of new guilds just because it is on top at the moment. I understand where the disinformation (black propaganda) is rooted though; as I’ve said, it is a legitimate war strategy afterall.

All i see is people giving up hope. Why not rise up to SOS’s challenge instead? Do something about what your server lacks. They didn’t start in T1, JQ did, (this holds a good amount of prestige imho) and yet why was it more appealing to other guilds to transfer to SOS instead? (i mean BEFORE they took over t1). Competition as a motivation can only get you so far. We play to win, we want to win. Who would want to join a despairing team that has submitted to losing anyway. You’re belittling yourselves in the process; shooting yourselves in the foot.

This was a factor in deciding which legendary I would make.. If I can’t have the stats I want, might as well get the sigil that is actually useful to me.

Because it would be pointless to have 2 legendaries of the same type equipped at the same time? (say 2 staves) – this may also be a reason why Eternity even exists albeit i find crafting 2 legendaries just get a different skin excessively tedious.

Please remind me, before kormir stole the spotlight absorbed abaddon’s power, what would’ve been the consequence exactly if it did run rampant? Maybe it can be a basis in terms of potential havoc a god can do in comparison to a dragon? Was it capable of decimating an entire continent etc.?

I say if they are gonna add more legendary skins/stat combinations, everyone who owns legendaries by now should have a relatively more viable method of acquiring these alts than those without (such as via the mystic forge or an NPC dedicated to changing the skin/stats of your existing legendary) without having to craft an entirely new legendary of the same type.

Does anyone have a viable, alternative build for a purely decked in berserker equips mesmer? I mean something that wouldn’t focus so much on shatters, even perhaps act as a support/control instead of purely DPS?

Suggesting that guilds should look elsewhere for the sake of increasing competitiveness in t1 has nothing to do with playing properly. I’m sure we all use a keyboard and a mouse to move about and play the game, which is proper and I hope for your sake ergonomically correct. If you mean proper in the sense of some higher moral standard, then consider this: surely promoting competitiveness in t1 is a greater good than maintaining an SOS blowout since it helps far more people than SOS maintaining or increasing their blowouts ever would. It’s a utilitarian approach to T1.

So convoluted yet so off the mark. To play properly in wvw is simply to play to win. Recruitment is merely another strategy. Rationally speaking, joining the top server is ideal since it will yield the best reward (as per the upcoming patch). There’s nothing metaphysical about it. I can’t say anything about your intention in this regard then, DISINFORMATION is a strategy too afterall. Which one is more agreeable is entirely up to the subject.

Also, we’ll add a new motivation to the WvW domain that goes beyond the overall weekly score to give more short term reasons to be winning in WvW as well.

Ritualist is the only class im willing to swap my mesmer for. As for the weapons, I think dual focus may look good on them.. I’d die so happy if my ritualist can wield 2 fan foci.

So instead of making a new one, I searched for the latest thread about having a bank password. I hope this gets implemented. Also, a Black Lion Trading Post password may be a nice option too. (or they can share the same password or something).

Blackgate here, I can tell you one thing… SoS does not need anymore guilds. They outnumber us 2 to 1 on most cases and sometimes even 3 to 1. Its already in there favor, don’t make it worse.

Yea, out of all the reasons the anti-dueling peeps have got, being whispered or talked to due to its implementation is probably the most bizarre/preposterous. You can always ignore them, unless you’re too touchy and gets offended by everything. :/ And again, this is being blown waaaaay out of proportion – the number of whiners due to declined dueling must not even be remotely significant. Sure, I can’t deny that these kind of players exist, but to point that we would be better off without a feature because they would whine you to death is entirely ridiculous.

Well, it comes with the price of being a celebrity. Even in real life, the famous gets horded by requests (pictures, autographs, etc.) from their fans and are constantly targeted by critics. There aren’t so many of you guys though, I imagine only a handful of people are exceptional enough to be considered worthy of being dueled by every one he encounters, everywhere and every time.

Why would a server be less entitled for recruitment than other servers just because we are at the lead at the moment? Isn’t a dynamic influx of soldiers part of a strategy oin war AND in securing your land?

I agree it shouldn’t be allowed in wvw, but I think the very reason why some of us wants dueling to be implemented is to do it in PvE areas. We can always choose a room in PvP and ‘duel’ there if we really want to. As per my suggestion, allowing duels in safe zones (camps/cities) is an agreeable alternative.

Nah I think it’s being greatly exaggerated the annoyance dueling will bring by some of the people here. I bet it would be so minor it won’t even matter to most. I’ve played tons of games that allows duels and rarely do I get whispers along the lines of “Why wouldn’t you duel?” or “Can we duel” or insults/complaints resulting from your decline thereafter. And I am one of those people who thoroughly enjoy dueling with everyone.

Dueling is the update I want the most really. For those who don’t want it, there’s plenty of games that have the option to immediately decline dueling requests (and not even showing anything on your screen to ‘bother’ you. The only place I think it would primarily change in player interaction is in major cities. Heck, why not just allow duels to take place in “safe zones”. It would satisfy those who don’t want it and those who do. Just like costume brawls.

I find leveling an alt wasted time and money since I am in need of some gold right now.

ArenaNet should add a special, Minstrel-exclusive emote (with some kind of cooldown) in which the character begins playing the harp, the music notes become considerably more noticeable, and a special music begins playing (either the Minstrel theme, or something more serious like a harp version of Fear Not This Night). Making it something similar to the permanent winter bells would work, too. ArenaNet needs to be more creative about ways to make Legendaries truly legendary.

Best suggestion ever. I’d love to play it in wvw while our zerg bashes on our enemy’s gate or something.; elevating troop morale on the battlefield. :O (I don’t care if they get angry at me for playing music instead of casting timewarp)

I’m sad to say I haven’t leveled any alt yet because I find it very tedious. I thoroughly enjoyed leveling alts in GW1 precisely because it wasn’t so difficult to get to level 20. In GW2, I feel like it takes too much time to level instead of just focusing on getting the equipment you want (also the reason why I dislike ascended equips – it eats too much resources). They should’ve just been made available via the personal story or something so that I don’t have to grind for my equipment AFTER I hit level 80. The ascended stats should be accessible immediately after the personal story, then we can focus on collecting the skins we want.

I really doubt the spirits of the wild match the human gods in terms of power..

In terms of relative viability, a fully berserker geared and spec’d shatter mesmer has the highest burst I think. (phantasm damage+mind wrack+confusion from shattered/killed illusions). But the relatively long cooldown is meh.

Plus, eternity has the exact same stats as twilight and sunrise. It doesn’t have a “better stat combo”, as you say.

I mean stat combination alternative legendaries, such as berserker..

As for eternity, stats or not, if it requires 2 legendaries + more mats for the mystic forge, it feels like a whole new tier altogether. I’m sure making an eternity brings more prestige than any other legendary out there.

That’s coz we’re slacking off today it seems. I sure wouldn’t mind if anyone from either opposing servers post a screenie of their ownage of wvw at the moment though.

If Eternity is any indication, is it possible that ALL legendaries will eventually be combinable with something to improve it? But isn’t it just like making a whole new tier above legendary? Also, is it true that there will be other legendary models aside from what we have now? (Such as an alternate legendary staff instead of Bifrost).. If so, well, it’ll suck for the people who already crafted theirs especially since they will probably have better stat combinations or prettier effects (judging from the ascended weapon skins in fotm alone).

For me, the sigil of energy on both weapon sets are indispensable since I’m running a pure glass cannon build plus it synergizes well with deceptive evasion and the shatter recharge trait.

Haha yea the sound does get annoying. It’s what I do to troll in LA since we don’t have any other effects aside from it to show off.

Actually I could’ve just as easily made a bolt (i do have the precursor for it) but I really want a weapon that has a bird design. Im also positive that it will get improved by Anet so I regret nothing. Im very happy with my Minstrel XD

I chose The Minstrel because its bird design fits the name of my character: Mockingbird

The only other effect it has (aside from the floating, hardly visible music notes) is that when you draw your weapon or swap into it, a harp plays . I know this particular legendary deserves a graphical upgrade the most (It’s the worst by most people’s standards), but even if they just add music into every step or change how my skills ‘sound’ or something, I’ll be very happy. I really really like the bird. I hope they improve on it soon. XD

As far as the avatar of balthazar, if even just his relic granted someone that much power, then maybe the god himself could prove a good match against an elder dragon?

Wasn’t there an event where we had to assume the role of Balthazar’s avatar? I don’t quite remember what happened there (iirc, it was a residue of power). Based from that alone, I don’t think Gods would be as readily absorbed..

I often read that legendaries are novelty items and is reflective of social status. This is the reason why I’m having 2nd thoughts on forging The Minstrel because it seems too cheap compared to the other legendaries. There is no prestige in crafting it. I don’t want people to look down on me for crafting the cheapest legendary even though I really want the design (bird). So my question is, should I still go for it (knowing I may not ever get another one because of the sheer difficulty, or wait for a bit and craft a more expensive one to get the attention a real legendary brings)

Well yea i tried combining 4 rares in hopes of getting a jack a lop. Lets just say i cant even afford to teleport now.
