All we really wanted changed had they listened was the Alpine Borderland, slightly stretched, so that towers and keeps cannot be trebbed from each other. “LESS PvE” and 2 more towers in the top left and right corners in the unused Centaur and Skritt camps.
New texture and a bit of finetuning here and there, even going so far as redesigning towers and keeps to justify the expansion. But not the current maze like monstrosities we currently have to navigate.
Personally, I’m hoping Alpine comes out with home spawn moved to the orb area so we can fight in the city. That’s all that map needed imo.

I remember them standing around EB most days watching each other. You’d likely be safe transferring to JQ or BG to get into the scene.. The thing with duels that most people forget when making snide remarks like “Go to OS or go to PvP” is that most duels aren’t organised.
Usually it’s boring, come across another solo roamer and the fight lasts longer than normal, leading to a party up, friendly chat and further duels. NONE of it is premeditated. There are other scenarios, but you’ll find they just happen when they do without any planning.
If you see a group of people standing around, it’s because what I described earlier happened, and more people have seen it and either watched or try to participate themselves, which by this point it should be pretty clear what is going on.
No one has any right to stop you from attacking them, but I can guarantee you that you will become food to the afk players watching from the other 2 servers, and no one on your own server will help you for making that choice.
If you have trouble knowing what’s going on, just watch and see how it pans out, if your ally goes down, go to rez strait away and if the enemy tries to stomp, use an interrupt skill or use your own burst as his skills would most likely be on CD, low health pool and low endurance.
Those casually started duelling groups can steamroll into a monster. I’ve seen them utterly kill roaming in tiers.. In other games lead to an end to mass fighting altogether. At the very least, it goes against the spirit of RvR. I hold no animosity toward my opponents, but I believe getting too friendly with the enemy is dangerous to game health.
Hence a place for such behavior has been specifically created.. Obsidian Sanctum.

Well next time I’m solo roaming and come across another solo roamer and we end up fighting for more than 10s, I’ll party him and ask him to stop so we can hold hands and skip to the OS to finish our fight that may or may not turn into a duel…

While I don’t really log in very much anymore due to my disappointment with the new maps guild upgrades, a faction system would sever any ties I have to the game. So that would remove any reason I have to log in at all anymore.
That being said, here’s the problem with a faction system. Aside from Tier 1 and partially Tier 2, the vast majority of the players in NA, are from NA. But that isn’t where matchups are decided. Matchups are decided by OCx, SEA and EU coverage, where it’s a small number of people going against an even smaller number of people. So if you put in a faction system, what would happen would be NA primetime would be completely overflowing, but outside that, you’d only have enough players for 1 or 2 matchups.
It isn’t that servers are massively different during NA primetime. It’s that they’re massively different outside of NA primetime. Factions wouldn’t change that. So Factions would just be destroying communities for zero gain whatsoever.
Bottom line, It’s not a matter of bulk numbers, it’s a matter of round the clock coverage. No matter what sort of grouping system they use, it’s not going to make half of the playerbase nocturnal. The only real solution is to balance out off peak coverage. Either by by merging the NA, EU and China servers, which has its own massive difficulties and complications, or by doing something about the system itself to at least lessen the effects of off peak coverage. Doing anything else isn’t going to help, and will only create more problems.
Well, if they DO cap overall participants it will force alliances to choose a ratio of coverage.. Too many offhours might win ppt, but will also cripple your primetime force… Which tends to snowball. Nobody likes being outnumbered, especially when that’s guaranteed to be your situation every time you login.

I liked server communities, I’m concerned to see them go.
I do recognize the flaws in that system however.
I won’t automatically leave if something new comes, but I’m not of a mood to keep hanging around for much more poor implementation. If I lose my community while gaining only endless keep trading or blobbing, that’s it for me as a purchaser.

Just introduce an accidental “bug” where people sometimes find extremely good rewards in the new desert borderland. As people share what they find, the rumor will grow and eventually “gold rush fever” will take hold, and people will want to get in and have a chance to strike it lucky.
Then they can clear it in 3 months by finally fixing the bug, but by then more people will have learned the map and/or gotten used to playing on it.

The issue with Wildstar is at launch it seemed like nearly everyone wanted the pvp-open world servers.
Over time, pvp population disappeared and the consistent population was … wait for it … pve.
They had to merge to mega server to keep afloat.
The cachet of open world was incredibly popular initially, but didn’t have the chops for long term play.
Agreed, open pvp in leveling zones usually only lasts through the initial leveling surge. After that, it devolves into a few max level twinks engaging in what cheap fun they can find. Which is little, and greatly discourages those attempting to level from doing so.
It’s a great concept that doesn’t pass the reality test.

We want to fight in WvW, either through objectives or open-field; it feels like that part seems to be completely forgotten.
the only incentive is for us to fight and enjoy fighting (if you can find fights); with that being slowly taken away, what’s left of the gamemode?
And therein really lies the heart of the dev/player disconnect.
Not all devs I’m sure, but the people making decisions at Anet seem to be of the opinion WvW is siege based, but it’s not. The structures are safe zones for the weaker side, there to give the few a small amount of relief from the many so they can still do things beside be overwhelmed constantly… And also provide changing terrain.
But the terrain is not the goal, the goal is defeating the players making use of those structures.

EB has always been a hit while also being the only one of it’s kind.
Anet overdid it with EoTM and DBL.. The map isn’t the star, the combat and openness is. Stonemist is one of a kind in the game even though it’s seen more fights than any other spot on any map.
Tuck the home keeps even further to the side, surround them with towers that need to be taken first.. And basically give us reskinned SMC. You’ll have a hit guaranteed.
Oh, and really limit falling to your death. Skyhammer, EoTM and DBL all have this in common as a feature. Take the hint already

I was an avid zone pvper once with over 20 characters. I spent some time in arenas as well. I’ve played solo (roamer), team support, team heals, team disruption, melee and ranged dps, minor tanking for fun, combinations of these…

Servers are split into EU and NA. This results in timzone oriented population.
I would relaunche as global servers without tags for new tiers. Totaly mixed in timezones and the number of tiers adapted to the current population.
Shame about the speed of light. It’d be great to have a global server and these game types would benefit from it.

Found this in another thread, apparently the idea of WvW playing itself is catching on.
Just a thought for discussion.
Replace what would have been players in an empty map with respective npcs (until it reaches the player cap of that map), that is organized and constantly fight to capture and hold key strategic areas, in a perpetual conflict that would (without intervention) result in a balance equilibrium or equal points to each team. When a player does log on, they will randomly replace an npc. If enough players log on, then all the npcs will be replaced. Depending on the numbers of npcs remaining on map, their roles may change as well. Imagine the forever epic feel of logging on a map to find fights always happening!
Now a privileged player (one with commander tag or some other ability or prerequisite) could influence npcs and give them instructions and focus. So in theory, even if only one human player plays on a server in tier 8, for a few hours a day, could make a difference to their server if they make good decisions to manage the npcs.
In another scenario, imagine a lesser populated server paired off against a larger populated one. It may give a cunning player a fighting chance if the player could instruct the npcs to attempt to capture points all over the map forcing the larger group to commit players to defend.
