Sure no weapon stats on kits need less attention, it is a huge disadvantage to other classes! i lose 128 Toughness 128 Vit 180 Strentgh, 5% Crit, 60% chance on bleeding, 90 Def and you will tell me this needs less attention?

The statistical loss on kits is an annoyance, yes but you also don’t have to use kits. If you do use kits and you honestly cannot compete with that statistical loss, then you are doing something seriously wrong. There isn’t a single profession I cannot demolish as an Engineer.

There are inevitably things I’d like to see with the Engineer, but to state that they can’t compete or aren’t powerful simply isn’t true.

Having played the Engineer since early September 2011 during closed Beta, I can honestly say it has received a huge amount of changes, buffs and fixes. Noteably to its kits, turrets and weapon skills. I would consider that the Engineer is in a good place at the moment and in comparison to other professions, needs far less attention.

There’s plenty of X nationality Guilds. Whats the difference in a female only guild? I personally dont see the added value in seperated guilds like this but i dont see why they cant do it.

I thought the name was funny too. Nothing wrong with making a little fun of yourself.

There are nationality guilds based on the ability to communicate with one another easily. It wouldn’t be of much value for a Japanese player to join a German guild where neither can communicate. Where sex is concerned, there really should be no barrier of entry.

My guild has several female players and they are rightly shown equal treatment. Their gender has absolutely nothing to do with it, simply their game ability and personality is the most important factor.

As for the name and although I’m far from PC, it’s hardly humorous and I would imagine many women I know would actually find it rather sad.

I’m struggling to see the reasoning behind an all female team. What purpose does this serve besides segregating? Is it subtly saying they (women) aren’t welcome in male teams, that they have to make their own instead?

Is it an effort (if they win) to turn around and say “See, girls are good gamers too!” which by default suggests people assume they aren’t.

It all seems very condescending in an attempt at appearing PC. I should also add that your team name, Hormonia [PMS], while I’m sure is intended to be tongue in cheek, is also very inappropriate and only serves to encourage a negative stereotype.

Very poor taste.

To address your points:

1. Taste in maps is subjective. Capricorn requires a very different playstyle and is the newest, thus many aren’t used to it. If you dislike underwater combat, it’s highly likely you wont like this.

2. Rank levelling is slow, but it provides nothing of any real value.

3. Guild versus Guild combat is a lore-based name and not one related to game play.

4. The reward is the opportunity to move onto the next round.

5. Combat downed states by equipping stealth or stability skills to ensure you can stomp. Some downed skills need balancing but this will come in time.

And is it just me or did anyone else not get emails?

This is a joke right? EU is so much more favored in this game its not even funny. Us in the American time zones get a lovely little dungeon reset right in the middle (or start for PDT) of prime time forcing you to wait to run dungeons.

This event will run the same amount of hours regardless of the exact moment it starts. Get over it.

EU is favoured, I assume because it has a larger player base here.

Only yesterday the opposing team changed from a Mesmer and Thief, to bring into play a Guardian and Necromancer.

Fix FOTM bunker builds already

in PvP

Posted by: Lewis Burnell.2493

Lewis Burnell.2493

Fallacies. FALLACIES EVERYWHERE.

Let’s get one thing straight. Glass cannon is NOT > everything else. They’re supposed to be countered by balanced builds that can mitigate their damage while dishing out considerably more than the bunker builds. Unfortunately, the bunker builds are just so OP that they can kill glass cannons while being completely impervious to damage. That is indisputably wrong. Most glass cannons are so squishy that the advantage of greater damage is completely offset.

Secondly, thieves are just better at the glass cannon role than everyone else. This is a fact. That will undoubtedly change.

Thirdly, there IS such a thing as a middle ground. Everyone’s jumping to the ridiculous extreme that some kind of nerf means nerfing into the ground, which makes NO SENSE AT ALL. They can be brought down to a level where they are useful but NOT ridiculously OP like they are now.

Finally, EVERYONE SHOULD DIE 1v1. EVERYONE. NO EXCEPTIONS. In a capture point-style game, any class that can win 1v1s even 10% more often than not is absolutely unbalanced. The points are supposed to MOVE. They are NOT supposed to be STATIC. I shouldn’t even have to explain why it makes for terrible capture point gameplay if one player is able to hold a point almost indefinitely even when there are two players attempting to capture it!

You play bunker to hold points longer. That’s IT. You do NOT play bunker to win 1v1s more often, and certainly not to be able to hold off 1v2 situations with such ridiculous ease. I can’t even believe this argument is being made. You’re just proving how utterly OP you are with such assertions that you should be able to maintain such an advantage. Please, continue, if you really, really want to make yourself look completely out of touch with reality.

I really couldn’t agree more.

I raised these exact concerns throughout Beta and yet people were so willing to defend bunker builds, constantly stating “But they can’t kill you as they deal no damage!”.

Er, yes they do. In fact, they deal plenty enough damage to kill you after you’ve thrown everything at them.

It really is an issue that has been here since September 2011 when I began playing and hasn’t changed one bit. In fact, it has actually gotten worse based on the sheer number of people doing it.

I’ve played a Mesmer throughout closed Beta, as part of the Press Beta and every stress test until launch. I’m probably pushing well over 600 hours play time and for the first time recently, having changed professions I realise just how frustrating the Elite can be.

I will add that it does have a long cast time, is prone to failing, is easily interrupted and has a really long cool down. However, any skilled mesmer will avoid all of these issues to guarantee the spell lands.

I do believe that the skill needs to change all that considered based on the fact it guarantees’ you die (against a skilled mesmer) with no ability to counter it. No other elite in the game is capable of doing this.

As much as I love Guild Wars 2, I can’t help but feel it should act much more like Polymorph. Give players the ability to move, and damage will break the moa.

Make it an incapacitate, rather than a “Haha you’re dead now!” skill.

Also that needs pointing out…rarely skilled players will utilize this skill outside of sPVP (aka 8s) as in tPVP (aka 5s) combo fields are much more needed. Also, you’ll find out that they will only use it if you are being annoying and if they have it specced currently into their hot bar. Most will run with Timewarp (TW) or Mass Invisibility (MI) specced.

I completely agree. I might state that Moa needs changing, but I haven’t used it since closed beta. Time Warp is infinitely better.

The 15 Gold per day I’m making says otherwise.

Yes, you explained “why it could work for you”, but if there are those of us who do our homework and seek out those markets that have profit potential, why should we change the whole system for those that can’t seem to figure it out?

I’ve got news for ya, bud. This is – hands down – the easiest in-game market to turn a profit on I’ve ever seen in an MMO, The only ones complaining are those not patient enough to do the research/planning necessary to turn a profit, plain and simple. I have a guild full of people making tons of gold everyday, and not one of them are asking for changes to further “make things easier” for those that can’t seem to “get it”.

The only thing Anet needs to do is get a handle on the bots. Once that happens, the market will get even better than it already is – and in its current state of functionality, it’s just fine.

I really couldn’t agree more. I’m considered quite poor I’m sure compared to some, but with 50g many might see me as relatively rich. I’ve only recently begun to step up my Trading Post activity and made 5 gold alone this morning. When I return home, I would imagine there will be another 5 waiting for me.

On the Trading Post collection screen is there any possibility we could have the items you’ve purchased reduced in size?

When you are buying hundreds of items, it isn’t particularly helpful to have each item as a huge icon when they could be rowed up neatly if made much smaller and thus provide players the ability to see more on a single screen.

When you select “Items I’m buying/selling” the item rows are just like that- small, neat and easily read.

I appreciate this is a very small change, but it would be very much appreciated.

If a 15% damage reduction to a single skill is causing you such misery, you probably shouldn’t be playing and you probably shouldn’t have been using that one skill as a crutch.

Exploring Alternatives (from a Mesmer)

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lewis Burnell.2493

Lewis Burnell.2493

I’ve only played the thief for a few hours during my time in Guild Wars 2 (a recording session over one of the Beta weekends) and didn’t really invest enough time in the profession to form any sense of opinion on it.

What I did last night was create all my alts with one of those being a Sylvari Thief, based on the fact the Tier 2 and 3 medium cultural armour is too nice to neglect.

The most surprising thing I found was how the feeling of combat changes as a result of initiative and the removal of single skill cooldowns. Combat feels drastically different; quicker and certainly more action orientated. For that reason alone, it isn’t unsurprising to see a reasonably high proportion of thief players (though ArenaNet statistics put them level with many others).

While it could be argued that initiative displaces one cooldown for another, it’s the form of control it affords you and the ability to front-load or spread your damage that generates the nuances of the profession.

As someone heavily invested in the mesmer it was frightening to see how little damage I deal in the short term in comparison to the thief. Many mesmer players have argued for some time that we lack the farming ability of other professions due to this, that our damage is over a longer period of time; it couldn’t be more true. A single cycle on my mesmer to defeat an enemy of equal level will see me change through two weapon sets (using all skills) coupled with several Shatters and likely a return to skills that were on cooldown. In contrast, my thief is capable of despatching enemies in a heartbeat based on the unique initiative mechanic without necessarily having to change weapons.

It’s also strange to suddenly realise how little mobility your preferred profession has when you explore another and though I can appreciate the thief requires its mobility for survival (both in its use of stealth and shadow step) the mesmer and specifically those of us who have high power and precision builds, require similar principals in the form of leaps and cloak skills. The difference here however is that once again initiative shines and allows for repeated darting attacks, with use of the shortbow only strengthening this position. All this serves to highlight the sluggish nature of the mesmer and its use of Blink or Focus as a crutch, that simply isn’t a viable option to many offensive builds.

That isn’t to say that the mesmer doesn’t have it’s strengths (it is wonderful) but it’s interesting from my perspective to compare it directly to another after playing just one profession for over 500 hours. Many of the professions in Guild Wars 2 are comparable, with the thief and ranger sharing many principals of design, or the mesmer and thief overlapping in some elements such as stealth/cloak, blink/shadowstep. But where a mesmer can shine in group play with its use of Portals, Time Warp, Null Field or Chaos Storm (should you choose a staff) it can also suffer heavily in dungeons or world versus world as you struggle to keep up through a lack of mobility while having your illusions and limited melee playstyle become redundant entirely redundant during keep sieges.

The thief certainly isn’t perfect as the vulnerabilities of the profession as a result of initiative are already abundantly clear (especially the inability to scale your damage once your initiative pool is spent) or the fact that you bring little area of effect options to the table with the exception of Dagger Storm but what is clear is that the profession actually feels cohesive and well thought out for the role it is trying to fill.

If I were to choose where to categorise a mesmer, it would fall into a profession designed to support others rather than one designed to always be alone. It cannot be denied that in 1 on 1 scenarios a mesmer is formidable and is capable of dealing huge damage (should Phantasms be allowed to deal it) but the time in which it takes to deal this poses its own risks especially when you are likely in structured PvP to be quickly joined by another enemy or team member and in World versus World the game moves too quickly for it to materialise.

I’ve wondered for some time as to why mesmer players have drifted to the thief and its abundantly clear as to why they would. What a shame it is however to see so many thief players descend the profession into single skill spam when the options initiative affords is a luxury just waiting to be truly explored.

If only ArenaNet had implemented initiative for all professions and removed cooldowns completely, I think they would have then been on to something truly original.

Meh, stupid quote button is gone…

I think your problem here lies in your class. I don’t play one, but from what I’ve read on the forums, Elementalists take much more effort to give out the same beating that others do. That needs to be fixed so as to make the output worth the effort.

And again, I’m in agreement that it’s OP. It’s definitely too much burst, especially for a high base armor/hit points class, and it needs to be toned down. It’s just not so bad that the game is unplayable or even near unplayable, even considering the other OP stuff.

(Side Note: Putting asterisks around your text makes it bold lol)

yeah your right it is the asterixes

I agree though it is not as if it is unplayable i am totally enjoying sPvP and the game as a whole but it becomes so very very very irritating when you are i a row of matches with one of those warriors that does nothing but charge and 100B. I can live with a bit of that but there are quite a few of those , a lot even. Every single time i see them i see them popping charge and 100b then smahs around for a bit and get out running around until their i-win button is of of cooldown and then to make matters worse use chat to say /m noob after each iwin kills. grumps

Warriors should not have a skill that ensures a kill like that , it is a one shot kill really. That is basically the same you get i gear based pvp you see in most other mmo’s , you get outgeared ? then all it takes is 1 or 2 buttons. This was not supposed to be in GW2 as far as i can remember.

There are several options against the Bullscharge + 100B combo:

1. Have a stun removal ready, the moment you are charged use it and dodge away.
2. Dodge just before the BC to avoid the combo all together.

Unfortunately this does take a lot of practice, but if you crack it you’ll never have a problem again.

There we go, that’s the problem. Put a mesmer in the hands of a good player and it’s a joke.

25k hps and yet he can pump out that sort of damage at range???

The mesmer is a caster, has ranged damage, with ranged abilities, yet can have the same hps as a class who has to stand toe to toe to do any damage.

The damage from phantasms needs toning down. There’s no risk in using them and so easy to get off. That’s why I see 3+ mesmers on each side in every game I play.

I have 26k HP, 50% crit chance and 2000 Power on my Mesmer. I achieve this by having absolutely zero defence.

Yes Mesmer’s can play from range, but our ranged attacks are far worse than that of a Ranger or Elementalist. In relation to Phantasm’s, what skills have “risks” when using them?

I’d actually say our “risk” using a Phantasm is worse than anyone elses in the game. What other professions have skills with 15+ second cooldowns that fail the moment they are cast?

I’ve lost count at the amount of times my Phantasms haven’t caused a single amount of damage having been instantly AOE’d or attacked the moment they spaun.

Lewis Burnell.2493

What I find amusing here is that people continue to believe that:

A) Their profession should be able to fight against every other profession perfectly
B) Their build should be perfect against every profession

In addition, it’s also interesting to see people point the finger at skills being OP that are so easily overcome. All the skills listed in the original post have so many work arounds it’s absolutely staggering this issue is even being discussed.

In relation to the Mesmer skills:

Moa – Huge cast time, easily interupted, very limited range, enormous cool down. Moa’s can still move and dodge. When Moa’d don’t use your skills and simply run as soon as possible.

Teleport – A good skill but one with a 1 minute cooldown, it also only lasts for 12 seconds when activated. This is obviously a good window of opportunity for trebuchet repair and movement across the map but most mesmers who take Teleport as a skill sacrifice themselves in other areas (they either won’t take Blink, Nullfield, Decoy or Mirror Images).

I freely admit that I play Mesmer but have played it since closed Beta. It’s been interesting to watch the profession grow from a chorus of “It’s underpowered” to many now saying its overpowered, when very little has changed.

What has changed is people finally seeing the potential in the profession. I’ve always said it is incredibly strong, but it has singificant limitations.

I run a glass cannon build and count on various skills (Blink/Decoy) as well as Distortion to survive for long periods (coupled with Chaos Armor). If I don’t have one of my stun removals ready, it’s highly likely I’ll die if I encounter a Warrior, Ranger or Thief.

I don’t mind that however as that’s the risk I take with my build. You can’t expect to be good against every profession setup.

I can’t help but feel when reading threads in this Dungeon forum that people are complaining not because dungeons are too hard, aren’t fun or impossible, but because they are seeking to exploit the current upheaval caused by speed running, to maintain the status quo; i.e. so that such individuals can better their gains by continuing as we did before, where everyone is running around in Citadel of Flames gear after only a few hours.

I personally consider that many of the dungeons are still to easy and that the new token rewards are actually too generous.

I would recommend that you wait a couple of hours and/or try another browser. I’ve had several issues with the site today with code 48 errors.

This is common when when servers are experiencing high volumes, causing connectivity issues.

If the error persists, I would raise a support ticket.

Good luck!

Farming for a specific crafting item is probably the best method of gaining money quickly. Farming any of the mineral deposits (especially gold) is incredibly easy and will earn a significant amount of money.

Vial of Potent Blood sells incredibly well and can commonly be found near the Highpeaks Waypoint on any of the following enemies:

• Alpine Minotaur in Frostgorge Sound
• Minotaur Bull in Frostgorge Sound
• Minotaur Calf in Frostgorge Sound
• Eagle Griffon in Frostgorge Sound
