I’ve been running a confusion/shatter build that uses 1580 cond damage in WvW.
I think most people who run Cond builds “think” they have a lot of cond. Confusion gets amazing once you’re over 1400.
I don’t need 10 stacks to hurt.
I get 1500 condition damage dealing…355 per stack of confusion. That’s relatively good.
Take a Scepter + Focus + Staff for WvW. Works wonders.
Perhaps they curbed the drop rate to make up for the fact a TON dropped in only a matter of hours?
Balancing the books, so to speak.
Clary that looks amazing! :P
Why are you all asuming the individual isn’t guilty? Just because she writes about GW2 doesn’t mean anything.
This is an issue for ArenaNet, not a public forum.
What I’m finding most irritating in the continued barrage of abuse towards mesmers, is that people are failing to combat the fundamentals of the profession.
99% of all mesmers use Sword as their primary method of attack, it is therefore logical to keep them at range. Considering clones and illusions require travel time to shatter on you, it couldn’t be any more apparent for a need to stay at range (or at least keep the clones/illusions away from you)
Alternatively, if you insist on going toe to toe with a mesmer do so in the knowledge that you can immobilize and stun them heavily, to mitigate Blink, Decoy or Mirror Images. Further, ensure you have at least one AOE attack to spike down their first set of dodge-created clones or double-blow out from Mirror Images.
Fighting a mesmer is difficult, undoubtedly, but the amount of PUG players who fail at the very basics – and then complain – when there are countless counter methods against them is unreal.
In line with all the above, I expect any profession whom specialises entirely in Power or Precision to hit hard. As a mesmer who does this (2100 Power, 50% crit chance) it’s also frighteningly apparent how easily I can die (a single 100b will kill me if caught without stun break or dodge). This is a fair trade off.
So before asking for nerfs and claiming the profession is overpowered, put in to practice the many available tactics that see us killed. Alternatively, play and learn a mesmer for first hand experience.
All professions are capable of dealing frightening levels of damage (yes- even condition focused builds) but expecting to be able to counter every single build is also impossible. I feel this reason is also why many people feel the mesmer is too powerful; they don’t take the traits, skills or items fundamental in countering them.
I’m confused about the “it does op damage and op clones”. I know lots of professions which do equal or greater damage than a mesmer clones. Which I suppose makes this entire thread invalid.

She looks amazing! :O
This is how I view mesmers:
A friend of mine was trying out the game and he asked me what he should play. I told him a mesmer because I figured it’d fit his play style. His first day, he pve’ed a bit and just did some questing in the starter zone to familiarize himself with the game. The second day he wanted to do some spvp, so I helped him get geared/specced and we started doing hotjoins.
After a couple hours, he was consistently winning fights and getting in the top 3 points in the game. He had no idea what effects were what, what combo fields were, what classes had which abilities, builds, map layouts/objectives, or anything else. All he was doing was spamming his abilities on everything he ran into, and he was killing virtually everyone except other mesmers and the occasional really good player on another class.
I told him, ‘ya, mesmers are kinda op right now’ His reply? ‘no kitten’
How on earth is that indicative of anything other than your “friend” playing against terrible individuals. Mesmers are incredibly difficult to play well but like any profession in GW2, killing those unskilled is really easy. I will add that I’ve played Mesmer since closed Beta and its changed very little in all that time. What has changed is that people are finally realising its potential, which has always been there.
1. a 10 minutes 1v1 fight? really dude?? i dont think thats possible even if both players are rocking full sta/tough gear and surv traits.
It’s more than possible. A close friend of mine runs a bunker elementalist and I run a very high damage mesmer build. I can’t kill him and he can’t kill me. We duelled on an empty server for 20 minutes yesterday
This.
The S/S setup provides:
1. The shortest cooldown Phantasm (when traited – 9 seconds).
2. A Phantasm that hits incredibly hard.
3. A Phantasm capable of avoiding some damage, due to its leaping in and out of combat.
4. Two leap combo finishers for the mesmer (amazing for applying Chaos armour).
5. A block (which deals good damage) on a short cooldown (when traited – 9 seconds) that also provides a clone.
6. A daze (when traited – 9 seconds).
7. A requirement for only 1 trait to reduce both weapon sets cooldowns.
The S/P setup provides:
1. A much lengthier Phantasm skill (iD) (when traited – 12 seconds).
2. A Phantasm that hits incredibly hard.
3. A leap and projectile combo finisher.
4. A stun/daze/blind (when traited – 20 seconds)
5. A large amount of bleeding through the iD/Sharper Images.
I really don’t see any reason to ever go with the pistol if you want the highest damage output.
I use S/S and have for a very long time. Two leap combo finishers is incredible, but the block also deals a ton of damage (and is great for clone spamming). iS is also brilliant in terms of damage, attack speed and its own leap in/out of combat makes it very powerful for avoiding some damage.
Does anyone know answers to the following:
• How do you obtain the Sylvari Tier 2 Cultural armour in sPvP?
• Is there a recipe to making the armour in the Mystic Forge?
• What is the rank requirement?
• What rank requirement are the Nightmare Weapons? (they look the same as those from Twilight Arbor)
• Is there a recipe to making the weapons in the Mystic Forge?
Thank you
Gandarra is wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than Gunnars
Fight, fight fight
I just hope the new spvp map isnt another raid on the capricorn…
It’s actually a really well designed map, but people have played it the least. I distinctly remember people saying Niflhel was rubbish when that first launched.
Any news of a fix on this please? It’s still bugged
@ Casia: I do that already I predominantly use Flamethrower by default for the Blind and Knockback. As I’m usually assisting my tournament team, the Knockback alone is incredible.
I did use to use R actually (for the self rez) but swapped it out to really beef up my condition removal ability. I’ll have a go at re-prioritsing my condition removal, and test the R again
I’ve only ever seen 2 rifle Engineers in Tournament PvP. Both of them were awful. Pistol + Shield is much more worthwhile.
Perhaps I’m fighting against exceptionally talented friends, but I tend to struggle as an Engineer against condition based players.
This might sound ridiculous in the context that Engineers have a ton of Condition removal skills compared to many professions and yet a talented Necromancer can literally burn me down in seconds.
As present, I’m using a 0/20/20/30/0 build (see here http://bit.ly/QZ4ulu) with lots of condition removal. As part of my tournament team, there’s very few professions I can’t kill 1 on 1 and yet condition players really seem overly challenging at times. After I’ve used my Elixir C (and subsequent Elixir Tossing) I’m incredibly vulnerable for a long period of time.
Does anyone have any suggestions against condition Necromancers and Rangers? I must stress it isn’t a case that I can’t or don’t beat them, just that I’m open to options, strategies or build changes
I’m currently trying to complete the personal story part known as The Tribunes Call. I try to enter the instance on the third floor of the Imperator’s Core however I get stuck in the loading screen every time.
I then have to close the game and when trying to get back into my character the game client closes, resulting in having to load the game a second time.
As it currently stands I cannot continue my personal story because of this bug.
The easiest way to quit Grenades is by taking them into Tournament PvP. You’ll quickly realise how awful they are against anything other than A.I.
Female Charr! (15 characters!)
As a Mesmer player since Beta, I’ve actually swapped to the Engineer because I was sick of the profession being flavour of the month. I also hate that the profession is a requirement in Khylo because of portal. A simple fix would be to stop the repair kit from entering a portal. As for fixing the skill, I’d probably just remove it from the game.
1. I’m running an i5 with 8gb of RAM, an msi twin frozr 560 TI and SSD and I get flawless FPS (60 everywhere). Only in WvW with huge numbers on screen does my FPS drop to around 45-50. Unfortunately, there could be dozens of reasons as to why your FPS isn’t good.
2. That’s a little subjective and based on your build. Remember, you can’t be expected to beat every profession 1 on 1 if their build is aimed for something very specific. As for the jumping puzzles, that isn’t really ArenaNet’s problem.
3. Take a ranged weapon.
4. That isn’t true.
5. Crafting gear is excellent especially the Orichalcum jewellery.
Fix Flamethrower's Flame Blast! Unreliable 90% of the time!
in Engineer

It really is WELL and truly broken.
On a side note, after the FOV changes due to the Mad King bug, it seems to work more?
The Flamethrower is incredible in PvP. The knockback alone is worth everything,
I have friends in America but live in the United Kingdom. I would like to be able to play tournaments with them without transferring servers because the majority of players I know are based in the EU. However, although we can form a party we can’t take part in tournaments unless we are all in the same region.
It’s very frustrating knowing that if I do want to play with them I have to world transfer, for what could only be a couple of hours, to then be stuck on a server without an ability to move back when our tournaments end.
Is this working as intended? Would it not be better to just allow anyone in any region to play tournaments together?
I would like to see a Melee cut that revovles around Condition Damage. At the moment the Tool Kit sits a little uncomfortably between Power and Condition Damage. I’d like to see the kit as a hammer.
Oh wow thank you Netsu!
The key difference is I can live without it (I have since Beta) and it isn’t breaking the profession; far from it. It would just be welcome.

I’m curious as to what equipment you are all using (for those of us who use Rabid Amulet in sPvP) to replicate the statistical numbers in PvE?
As there are no jewels which provide Precision, Condition Damage and Toughness what are you equipping to attempt to make up the numbers?
I’m currently wearing a full set of armour from CM, however can’t decide on the jewels as all of them have 1 wasted statistic…
(edited by Lewis Burnell.2493)
Change for many, is difficult. Were ArenaNet to have replicated Guild Wars 1 it would have never achieved the heights it has. In addition, I would also add that many of Guild Wars 1’s systems and design implementations were incredibly frustrating or outright poor. Some of Guild Wars 1’s systems I enjoyed however, but most of those have thankfully been retained or transformed into a much more refined idea.
All players when downed should have the same skills.
This would remove 99.99% of the balance headaches and skill issues.
I’m not sure how they would implement this without having Kits as an interactable option in the Engineer’s skill window which is probably no small task. Alternatively, they could make it so on each Kit, it had a drop down menu of choice for a Sigil.
How that translates to PvE however…
Sigils working with kits isn’t really my priority. The main one is to just see my main hand weapons statistics effect my equipped kit.

So if the fix a bunch of bugs but released no halloween content, I wonder what ppl would complain about then…..hmmmm
Poor excuse. You cant keep ignoring the pile of issues of a professions, thats only getting larger and larger, by saying “well, our other stuff affects more people so its more important”.
This will snowball into less and less people playing the Engineer, which cycles back to “it involves less people = less priority = less players = even less priority”
Engineer is and was not ready for launch. Fundamental functions are missing or broken, not even mentioning the staggering amount of bugs in the majority of the skills (weapon, utility or kit) and in various traits. Some things just flat out do not even work!
I can understand not delaying the game because a profession (or two, looking at necro) werent fully ready for release. But then i do kitten well expect this to have priority. Not to add more content, but to make sure the release content is actually upto snuff.
This really can’t be repeated enough, but profession and content teams are two entirely independent units. The content team has their own work, the profession teams their own.
What of the Engineer is in such a sorry state that makes it unplayable?
What is a scandal about people taking part in a task they know only has a certain chance?
You don’t call a scandal in a Casino when you don’t win the jackpot, so why would you here?
I’m more concerned about the fact that at level 80, you don’t have the money to support such waypointing… :-\
GuildWars2: Hacks, Cheats and Underbelly
I think what’s important when playing the engineer in sPvP or tPvP is that you know your specific role. I consider managing more than one kit an unnecessary headache so only take 1 at a time. Dependant on what I’m doing, I’ll then switch a kit out.
If I’m roaming, I take the Flamethrower because of its Incendiary Ammo, fire field, knockback and blind.
If point defending, I take Bomb Kit because it’s a pain for others to fight against. I swap out the trait Incendiary Powder and put in Forceful Explosions.
My tournament build is the following: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-VRR;0B-Z-Vv0u5VQFx0;9;49JJJ-4;026-05-09;2Kw;1F0-Rk06Rk062VX
I’ve ran this build for a long time and can honestly say it destroys any profession 1 on 1. Give it a spin
I agree with Overlord.
The best thing to do is have 4 of your party pickup barrels and stand on the stairs to the left. You then pick up the barrel and run RIIIIGHT to the back. You then drop the barrel, your team run and place theres and you run with swiftness to pick up another before heading to the gate.
You can then get your other team mates to use blocking or crippling skills just in case. Works every time.
Man I’m level 33 and I’ve only got like 50 silver. I just found out by reading this thread that you could sell to other players via Trading Post. Before this I would just go to the nearest NPC merchant and sell all my stuff there. Is that how you guys make so much money? By selling to trading post?

I ran AC path 3 last night and had no issues targeting the burrows. It seems much improved. It’s also an incredibly easy path.
The Blossoms in TA are excellent as they keep players moving and prevent speed running. However, I’d advise taking a Guardian with a staff as these eat Blossoms all day long. Blossoms are also wonderful for rallying off.
I still find dungeons fun, all the ones I’ve done and I amassed over 1000 Tokens from Twilight Arbour before the Token changes…
I’d love to see some Xmas in Hoelbrak.
Hoelbrak is my favourite place in the entire game and I appreve your message.
There simply aren’t enough snow areas!
I’ve played AC Explorable on my Engineer since level 31 and managed absolutely fine (I have a level 80 Mesmer) however the difference between AC and CM is enormous. As a level 40 in CM I was being steam rolled during the explorable to the point where I was dead more times than alive.
I was wondering if anyone can clarify.
I was planning on running Caudecus’s Manor for tokens on the basis that the armour set has the attributes I need (Precision/Condition Damage/Toughness) however, I’ve just noticed on the official Wiki that the armor obtained by using the tokens is level 70. Is this intentional?
Every other dungeon’s exotic token exchange is level 80 or is it a case that the Wiki is simply out of date?
Thank you
Does anyone know why this option was removed and will it ever return?:)
Looks just like mine
