Many of our utilities and skills get more benefit when we are closer to the target. Plus we cant escape easily so surely we should be more dangerous up close. This is the main reason i cannot believe necro was released without a proper melee cleave weapon.

Everyone in this thread is asking for another power weapon or getting off on debates about axe and dagger. I’m wondering why everyone isn’t simply asking for a fix to the dagger and axe which are our current power weapons (mainhand). We only have one maybe 2 condition weapons with scepter and staff. Staff can also be used as utility so it isn’t strictly a condition weapon. As far as offhands go we have warhorn, which fits the power dagger and axe builds better, focus, which again fits the power builds better, and dagger which fits both due to its utility.

That gives 1-3 condition weapons and 4-6 power weapons. I understand that condition builds are in a much better place in pvp then power builds, but we should be looking at fixing the current power weapons before we start adding new ones.

difference is: necromancers are rewarded much more for staying at range and using condition weapons.

why not place guild halls in instanced versions of jumping puzzles? it would add an incredible amount of diversity to the guild halls, and instancing the guild hall would make it a way to keep jumping puzzles public as well.
of course in the end it’s up to Anet.

I’m wondering where you see a necromancer using a sword? From the cannons that I’ve seen and the historic version of the necromancers suggest no such connection. But then again, the sword seems to be connected with everything because it is far more iconic then the necromancer ever was and ever will be.

I’ve seen more examples of necromancers using Maces and flails over swords. But even that is rare. Scythes are not specifically iconic for the necromancer and more so with death. Aside from staffs and scepters the most iconic weapon a necromancer has, and I would argue that its even more iconic to them then even the staff is would be a Grimoire

And I would be all for a Grimoire, aka Tome for the necromancer.

so a more focused focus. okay. i’m gonna go ahead and say that guild wars 2 is a game that for me, broke ‘class’ stereotypes. so i think saying a weapon like sword on a necromancer being out of the question is ludicrous.

What future "Kits" do you want?

Kits are my favorite part of the Engineer class.
Currently there are two different types of kits.

*Device Kits
*Weapon Kits

Of these types (or a new type if you are creative enough)

What are some future Kits you would want?

As an Elite, I would like a future Spy Kit skill. That has some kind of Stealth focus involved with it.

Also a 2hander Melee Kit Sawblade style.

a Mech Suit kit would also be pretty cool idea for a mode tanky design.

I honestly don’t think we need an melee condition damage weapon at all, and certainly not a hybrid. We could use melee power cleave, melee control (like a hammer), but unless there was some significant benefit to using it, why would I use a melee condition weapon when our ranged ones do the same thing but better (condi necro is far from lacking in AoE).

Also, the 2 skill will never, ever, even in the craziest peyote induced vision, exist on Necro. Targeted (only) movement is fine, but we will not see it with an untargeted version.

Thematically, doesn’t a sword make more sense as a condition weapon though? I’m all for necros getting a control power weapon, but a sword cuts. That implies bleeding of some sort. As for a control power weapon a mace similar to this would make sense.

Mace 1 auto attack chain (I’m not gonna try to name each attack):
1st and 2nd attacks would be effectively the same skill with a half second cast time simply cleaving and doing direct damage. 3rd would apply vulnerability, weakness, or some soft cc and have a one second cast.

Mace 2: Big hitting attack. Necros need a big hitting melee cleave attack.

Mace 3: Your hard cc, knockdown or stun in a small aoe area.

I’m not against necromancers getting sword, but in terms of the theme of a sword I think it should be condition weapon.

man, a great sword cuts and so does an axe. how many of those bleed? in fact i’d argue that an axe causes more bleeding(ranger axe 2 aside)
point in fact we do need a dps cleave weapon and i have a feeling it will be spear or a greatsword that functions like spear. (dark spear replaced with dark blade and performs same way)

i dont think we will ever get a melee cleave weapon…cause who would use dagger or axe then as mh? and a condi cleave melee weap would be crazy with epidemic…absolute aoe

yeah i mean why not just give aoe melee conditions to warrior forever. i don’t see the concept presented as overpowered at all. were it given to the thief class, the ‘op’ objection would be 200% correct.

because we don’t belong in ‘literal’ melee. you can at least move around while using axe 1.

We dont belong in literal melee like eles and mesmers do? Are you referring to the light armor class in general or your experience?

i think i’m referring to the fact that fighting a hammer warrior in melee as a necro is probably one of the worst things you can ever do. or a thief in meleee, or a guardian unless bad guardian is bad. or an engineer..yeah. get the point? mesmers and eles have escapes(a lot of them), which is why they’re fine in melee.

To be fair, I think that Necromancer is just superior underwater to land version. Only thing lacking is maybe LF generation. But overall, our skills for underwater combat are amazing, DS works great underwater and yeah, those 12k Frozen Abyss AoE crits…
However, I look foward to further expansion of Death Shroud action bar. We still have 6 places left…

Yeah, I always thought they had really good underwater skills after that big underwater update; not to mention Plague Blast (I still like the old name better) removes a condition every time.

DS underwater really just keeps me alive. i’m more concerned about the epicness of the trident and spear.

QED, powermancers are really, well, not lackluster, but lacking, in the ability for spike damage and sustained dps(minus axe and the suicidal dagger 1) we are either forced into a part of combat that is immensely punished both for our target and us…until we are underwater.

frozen abyss. wicked spiral. anything on spear really, or trident. these are the power weapons that powermancers are asking for to be used on land. i mean would a thief so happily approach a necromancer if they knew a third of their hp could be taken away by frozen abyss crits? would a warrior be able to knock us around like a tennis ball if wicked spiral was nailing them in the face all the time?(yes, not the point)

i literally just curbstomped an incredibly tankyhealy guardian underwater, only because i was underwater. is this fair?

on land we are count chocula, underwater we are titans(mighty mighty titans). this is not ok.

-Something vaguely resembling what has been asked for (example: Guild halls) but not actually what anyone wants (no useful function to it)

Guild halls aren’t implemented yet because they don’t want people just sitting afk in them after there implemented as it takes away from the “social” crap or something along those lines or simply Guild vs Guild will be yelled for until its implemented and not being vaguely the same as it was in gw1 and then be hounded for it.

Keep in mind that if we do get guild halls they’ll more than likely have crafting stations, a trading post, a bank and numerous other crap that will probably have to spend influence to get.

Guild halls are something they’ve said they would get to “eventually” but it’s more or less at the bottom of the barrel.

have you ever played an mmo with guild halls where there wasn’t a ton of people in the main cities anyway?

Playing engineer from the beginning I tend to think this class is not finished, there are some things that eng should have from the beginning: like rocket shoes + slick shoes should leave burning mark or burning field, lots of gadgets – like traits blinding (acid coating) have cooldown too long, which makes this class only for fun, as damage is pathetic, skills are not usefull (because of cc, traits in wrong tiers), all in one:

class was forgotten, there is no future for serious gaming, and as this year comes to an end it will deteriorate and dissapear from dungeon, pve, wvw -

the final year of the engineer, because of broken ideas. Now engineers are very often being kicked out from dung team – had it couple of times.

Is there a hope for our class? Do not think so…

you’re right, in the sense they should’ve kept the heavy armor design for the class. that and i don’t really see a place in dungeons for engineers(unless fractals)

Bow, just like any other weapon, can be “made” to fit our theme just fine. Its actually not that hard to make every weapon fit the spellcaster classes, because they can use magical effects that would otherwise seem strange.

For a bow, you could do things like shooting an arrow with a spectral connection, that binds the target to you, and then channels, each pulse transfering conditions to them. Shoot a spectral “bomb” that corrupts an area of the ground, chilling and draining LF from everyone inside (ice field).

The only thing they need to do to make a weapon feel really good is:
1) Make the weapon “fit” in some way. For casters, all it needs to do is be used as a “source” of the magic, like a ritual tool, and it feels okay: look at dagger OH.
2) Give some kind of consistent theme
3) Make the skills cool

I guarantee even if they gave us a flower as a weapon, if they did it right it would make an awesome weapon.

if bow was a necro thing, thief wouldn’t have exactly what you’re describing. you can’t reap souls with a bow.

It could work, look at Greastsword and Mesmer. That is a great way to uniquely use a weapon. So i think if done right and gets enough attention and just slackly skills it could be done and it could be done well.

greatsword fits mesmer only because of the way they use it. bow on necro will be fired the same way it’s fired on ranger and warrior. greatsword on necro will work the way it works on guardian most likely. we need a ranged power weapon, however i don’t feel any current 1000+ ranged power weapons work on necromancer.(unless that’s how anet decides to give us a greatsword)

well a melee scythe would be awesome the reason people say GS is the fact its already in the game and has been said by Anet they want to open all weapons to all classes. I think that would happen before new weapons got added.

Question says it all, what do you the engineering community consider the best current condition runeset, and why? What are you currently using, and what advantages do you think it offers over the other condition runesets available. All input and insight is welcome, and thanks for taking part in this discussion.

I currently run perplexity, and think they add a lot of dps to offhand shield, turning it from a defensive weapon into a great offensive tool.

I’ve also been trying to decide if scavenger runes are worth it. If anyone is currently running them I would love to know how it works for you.

Its true that condition builds beat power builds but that’s beside the point. Our kits do not fully take advantage of power stats, especially in mid/long ranges.

if it does: here’s a suggestion. there are a couple progressions that have unbearably limited weapon choices.(engineer, anyone? thief too i guess.) now i’ve heard arguments that letting all classes use all weapons would create a huge amount of inflation of prices. and those arguments are right: for a while. but as we’ve seen with exotic armor and weapon prices(now that everyone has them) they will balance out if they increase in price at all. heck, that might even give crafting a point outside of experience.
That being said, some classes do not need additional weapons(warrior/ranger) and some of them don’t exactly need additional weapons, but having another weapon suit their build that they don’t have would be fantastic(melee power necro)

Trahearne in this very game is a Necro with a greatsword, and despite how many people dislike him he’s arguably a stronger Necromancer than any players can make (he summoned like 10 Flesh Golems before… wtf man).

I don’t mind the initiative system, the problem only arises when anet introduces powerful mechanics a lot of classes have to jump through hoops to get/use with it. Immobilize and dazes are far too powerful an ability to be spammed, but it’s happening and it’s allowed.

In most cases I have to hope these guys don’t interrupt me or dodge when I drop a putrid mark/deathly swarm, then I can finally heal in peace as they panic with their own confusion on them. It’s a horrible rune and the people who build to use it clearly don’t expect much retaliation from their opponents. I personally hope it gets nerfed to the level of the superior rune of resistance (by that I mean an insane ICD) so people can move on from these troll builds.

i don’t mind the initiative system either: what i do mind is it only being available to one class.

why trident should be on land

trident should be the new melee weapon that necromancer should have access to.
reasoning behind this is as follows:
under water it provides incredibly good condition dps, and incredibly good dph, and some hard cc.
it could truly make it as a hybrid weapon, dealing both bleeds on melee hit and a hard nuke on trident#5(i’ve hit 7k’s with this before, it’s time necro gets a nuke)
more reasoning behind this is the fact that it gives necromancers the much MUCH needed mobility and group power based damage that it so desperately needs. also, frozen abyss is by no means over powered because of its long cast time, and due to some elementalists skills, the animation doesn’t really need to change much.(ele makes a frozen abyss on land)
this weapon would solve the mobility crisis and escape crisis all at once while providing an extremely powerful PBAoE.
as far as trident#4, it could just be turned into a fear or a launch/KB.

so i just fought a p/p perplexitryhard thief in wvw in a zerg, and as a necro that build is absolutely freaking obnoxious. literally nothing i can do about him interrupting my sal;kjaeroiud.

why weren’t these stupid kitten runes nerfed anet? huh?!

oh and hey, remember those kitten toy monkeys that have two symbols on their hands? yeah, my necromantic kitten head was between them for a solid 2 minutes. i swear, i couldn’t remember the lyrics to jingle bells with that kitten happening.

What you fail to realize is that they are pretty much useless in combat. So when they run from you, just smile… because you won. They lack the ability to kill you, often through gearing, spec, AND skill. There is a JQ guy that is quite literally spec’d and geared just to run away. He has been doing it for almost a year now, all he wants to do is fear people off cliffs, when it doesn’t work he runs away. Does he do anything for his server? Nope. So smile and enjoy your victory as they run in fear. Many like you to chase them too, don’t chase. Instead /point and /laugh at them. Sometimes their ego gets the better of them and they try to rage kill you, which they can’t. Then /dance on their body.

so now that WvW season 1 is over, what does that mean for players who don’t come out of wvw much as far as achievements? does that mean players who primary wvw content will have a huge dip in the amount of achievements they get?

(side note: why is it that pve players have easier access to badges as most of the achievement chests now come with kitten loads of them?)

I agree, so many people complain about the wrong things with thieves when it is simply a L2 play issue, this case what I am speaking of is a very specific situation that applies to WvW only. These guys are blinking around with 1200 range so frequently escaping everything. Why? I cannot understand why. They are so entirely favored it’s undeniable. Blinking up on bridges, teleporting behind entire zergs, completely choosing when they want to lose or win. If you have seen one of these thieves, then you know that this is no exaggeration, this is a problem.

We do. Ever faced an HGH engineer or a condition stealth mesmer? You have to play and understand completely every class in order to perform at your peak in this game. The issue is that thieves have the most complex mechanics that people don’t seem to understand, which inherently gives us an advantage. You’ll never find thieves an issue in tPvP because people know the classes in said arena.

yup. played both. played thief after: found fighting them incredibly easy. even easier than when i was on an engineer fighting a stealth mesmer. (as a thief player you have no right complaining about that though now do ya?)

I always thought rifle was a hybrid weapon, why else would its traits be on the pres/condition dmg traitline? At least with bleeds it gets some benefit out of that line

rifle a hybrid weapon. you’re adorable. it’s in the precision/condition traitline for the same reason 2 handed weapon cooldowns are in the healing power and vitality traitline for guardians.
aka, no reason at all other than thats where anet wants them.

When I said its a hybrid weapon I don’t mean that you are supposed to put 50/50 on power and condition damage evenly, it ends up more like 85/15 when specced into firearms, since you would want to anyways to grab the rifle traits. The minor traits give chances to bleed on crit and if they got any bleeds on them, you get a power damage increase. Using blunderbuss also ends up giving you the damage bonus when specced into it. If it was something else like 3 stacks of vulnerability per shot blunderbuss would actually be losing dps/ getting nerfed, though yes I am assuming everyone specs fully into firearms when using rifle

no, not everyone specs fully into firearms when using rifle as the range increase is negligible.(unless you’re being smart and using go for the eyes) i honestly don’t consider bleeds into my dps at all as i believe the bleeding on blunderbuss is like the bleeding as a result of a shot from a AA-12. the bleed didn’t kill you the 12 gauge to the chest did.

if anyone remembers, new-ish(existing weapons on more classes) would be introduced by the end of 2013. Since 2013 is more or less over, is it now likely to expect to see these additions in early 2014?

hurr we’re gonna give the rogue class of guild wars 2 more access to torment than the freaking necromancer.

No one said Torment was Necro only, ever. It was specifically going to first appear on us, not only on us.

you’re right, no one did. including myself. simply the name of the condition should imply necro gets more access to it though.

i’d say this wasn’t a problem if any sort of power necro build could contend with a d/d ele 1v1.

I’m from Canada also, but I want a beaver pet so it can go harvest all the wood nodes, and in fights it can clamp on to enemy ankles and b*tch slap them with it’s tail …
