The skin is the only thing that applies. You won’t get the ability to change stats on those weapons. You won’t get the particle effects, the footsteps, the weapon skill effects, and so on. Just the skin. Only you’re originally crafted weapons will be truly “legendary” and rightfully so.

No, the effects are party of the weapon being Legendary. Before they made Legendary weapons on par with Ascended stats and the ability to change them, people used to make a legendary and transmute the skin to a stat set they preferred. In doing so, however, they lost all the visual effects associated with the weapon being “legendary” since it was no longer the original weapon.

I might be wrong here, but I think that was actually a bug they wound up fixing.

I have a Dreamer transmuted onto a level 0 shortbow on my level 20 thief. She still gets the footsteps, she still shoots unicorns.

You additional legendaries are not a “waste” because they can change stats and other weapons can’t. This may not be valuable to you, but they remain better than ascended gear because of that.

Regarding dyes. Suppose you have celestial dye on multiple characters and they gave you back a celestial dye, what would you do? Sell it, right. You, me, and everyone else who buys dyes for multiple characters.

This would cause the price of the dye to go down, allowing more people to have it on their account, which would make the dye more common. So I think the unidentified dye solution is pretty good. Especially if you are trying to maintain the exclusivity of the dye (note: I don’t care about exclusivity, but I understand a lot of people do.)

And now that they are account bound you literally never need another pair of daggers ever for any reason outside of convenience.

A legendary is mostly for the skin, and I dare say 80% of that gold and time sink, if not even more, is for the skin. The stats are just a bonus for the majority of the players.

People were still just as crazy about legendary when it didn’t have the stat swap nor much of a stat increase from exotic. Nor did they have the infusions slots. So in the end, the wardrobe is undermining 80% of that effort people put into a duplicate legendary.

Getting no sort of refund is understandable when it comes to gem store purchase and other duplicate skins, but legendary is a huge deal if you got two. In my opinion, the best way to fix this is to just un-soulbind the duplicate legendary for every person so they can choose whether they wanna keep it for the stats or sell it to get atleast something in return and let someone else enjoy it.

The concern over cloning a legendary or any 1h-skin into your other hand needs to stop being argued with ‘where does the compensation end? What about t3 sets? etc etc….’ These are not comparable, and here is why. Armor sets and two-handed weapons, as well as 1h’ers going in the same slot, are different items for the sake of stats. You did not have two halves to your t3, of which people now only need 1 half to create the full appearance. The issue with cloning is exactly that – taking an item you have one of and SHOWING two. I don’t care frankly if you have one bolt and you have countless copies with different stats – but when you start taking that backup bolt and throwing it in the left-hand free of any charge besides transmutation, I have a problem. Please, recognize that these are separate. This qualifies for expensive skins like infinite light – it shouldn’t matter if you have multiple copies for different situations, but when that copy is equipable without equal effort, I find issue.

TL;DR – the ‘where does compensation end’ conversation is simple – when players’ past efforts are nullified with CLONING that misrepresents your efforts, not just when someone happened to have 2 of something.

It just… so doesn’t affect you at all what other people look like. That’s what I can’t, and won’t ever understand. Good luck though.

so from what I can get from /deaths.. I have 1774 total deaths on my account, giving myself a higher than actual cost per death (as not all of those are level 80 characters, and none of my characters has higher than a 2s repair bill per death) of 2s per death.. I’ll save.. 35 gold for a year and a half of content.. no idea how many times I’ve respecced but it’s not often and so I’ve probably spent less than 5 gold on respeccing (that’s a very high estimate).. to give a round figure of 40g in savings.. I think this change is just going to be net loss in money for me. I’d rather have waypoint costs removed than repairs. Waypoints cost way more than repairs.

So.. I guess.. use those instant repair canisters I’ve been hoarding before the 15th..

So I was browsing LFG and saw a lvl 38 fractal group on the second fractal and say what the hell, I’ll join. Right when I hit join they are complaining about elitists and hwo the previous warrior left the group, and how they constantly get “yelled” at for being scepter guardians with 21K HP. I decided to have some fun and switch up my normal build for a PVT double rifle warrior with rampage and fear me.

We finally get to the boss and the mesmer wants to melee “burst” down Ashym with TW. I find this a perfect opportunity to play how I want and use fear me. The group flips out on the necro and is kicked right when the boss dies. Lawl

The cost difference between unlock system and “per change” system lies in returning to old looks. If you do not return to old looks, then you pay more in unlock system. Only if you keep returning to the old skins constantly is the “per change” system better for Anet.
By your claim, you belong to the first category, not the second.

I’ve read it a billion times over and I am certain that I am perfectly fine with the charge system. I don’t care if an armor unlocks. I won’t likely return to the same armor a second time. Which is why I would not like a larger cost of charges to “unlock” and thus would not do it as often, if that was the way it turned out.

I’m sorry, I feel like they are killing progression a bit with the ASCENDED account bound change. Legendary makes sense, but making ascended armor ac bound is something that I never EVER wanted… Too much kitten is account bound, skins are one thing, but come on, it really has to stop somewhere. Legendary armor or trinkets would make sense to be ac bound, but why make the HORDE of ascended rings, amulets, and trinkets that sit on my mule even less necessary?

Sory but not everyone see it your way. For many of us ascended gear is pain to create. Extremely grindy…too many farming. It was hard enought to make one sat for one character. Now there is much less of this grind.

…. Except not everyone would pass along their armors and weapons. Some, like myself, will only be passing around amulets and accessories and maybe a backpiece. It’s too much of a pain to do all armors.

Unfortunately, anet gets around that logic by having you buy a currency. You are not buying, say, an outfit for 10$. You’re buying an amount of gems for 10$. Then using those gems for whatever purpose. That muddies the waters.

This is part of running a business. They have to be able to negotiate with their customers. Anet doesn’t need to be coddled they are perfectly capable handling their business. If what we are asking is just too much for them and they can’t do it then we are just at an impasse. No hard feeling no anger but it is just another thing too add to what is wrong (in our eyes) with this game.

Everyone wants to be able to change their looks around for free. What does that do to Anet? Cut their sales. What does that do for us? Cut our new content. Part of running a business is giving customers what they want without sacrificing the company for it.

part of running a business is figuring out how to monetize in a way that maximizes your profits. This system does not. i will point out again.
The only time this system increases profit over an unlock system is when a player uses returns to a previously used look. Under the current system, people almost never do that. For any look that they think they may use again, they create a new set of items to store that look.
Even that case is rare, because most people just only go with one look.

If i want to monetize 2000 of the prints of my pictures, one of the worst ways i can do it, is to sell them a service where every time the bring back one of my pictures, i give them a new print. People will almost never use/buy 1999 of my print. I may make money one time per 6 months. Instead of customer potentially buying 6 or 7 pieces of art, they buy 1, they keep it until i can make something that is so much better they pay again to switch.

not to mention, even in my example, i dont charge the initial item costs that the game charges to obtain the item the first time.

To be honest I’m not entirely sure you know exactly what anet’s business situation is. I usually respect you as a poster, but I honestly feel like you are assuming you know a lot more about the system than you do. Anet had options, they knew their options. They chose this system, one which the very vocal minority of the forums dislikes because of x reason or y. It doesn’t matter, though, because it’s what Anet chose.

Myself, and all of my friends I have discussed this with, are excited about the new system. They will buy more charges than they buy crystals currently. To the casual player, it isn’t about “I want account unlocks!” Or “anet is taking my money! Shame them into submission!” It’s about “wow, that cultural armor I bought for gold that took me a year to farm because I play casually will be added to my wardrobe so I can try new armor sets without feeling like I’m sacrificing anything significant outside of a couple dollars.”

Please go back and read previous post. The majority of reasonable people are asking for a PAY-to-unlock system not a absolutely free wardrobe. We know they need to make money and are willing to give them money but for a better deal than what was offered.

When it comes to our purchases I can only speak for myself just like you can only speak for yourself. I am not going to buy a single Wardrobe Charge under their currently released model. You sound like you will.

Interesting about the lovestruck weapons, I absolutely adore them (got 3 daggers, 1 focus, 1 staff and 2 scepters for my Elementalist when they were released) so I might try and invest in some others. Doubt anyone would go for such a buyorder though. But this is rare to happen to BLT weapons? I’ve only been playing since the Lovestruck and I’m very curious.

I never paid much attention, but I’m pretty certain they hadn’t ever been sold for less than 20 or so gold a piece. But the implication of JUST the pistol having the orders plummet down to 5 seems to me, someone silly stockpiled, and dumped several 100 of them for some reason. I dont know about numbers, though, but i definitely placed 5 orders of them for 5g, just to see >.>

I have 10 80s, every class plus an extra Warrior and Necro. All dressed in Exotics with the occasional trinket I still need to upgrade and maybe an underwater weapon here and there. I’ve done all Story modes at least once except for SE and CoE. Other than that I’ve only done a couple Exp paths in AC. Haven’t set foot in a Fractal.

Started joining through the LFG tool but I keep running into groups that repeatedly drop members (even before we begin people just join and drop, join and drop) and groups that disband if there’s a single wipe, even in Story mode.

Would like to learn with people that aren’t going to ditch that easily and actually communicate.

Well, this happened to me once when I tried to purchase more than 300$ in gems in one month (or week, or something). This may or may not be your problem, but it might be. I opened up some keys today and got a full ticket…. I finally was able to happily buy a 1 handed weapon because I know I’ll get as many as I want, so yay tormented dagger!

Awesome! Trying to find the best time to sell the duplicate tormented skins I managed to buy.

It could be hard….

Something really interesting though, I bought two lovestruck pistols, and now I only need one. I opened up the bltp and the lovestruck pistols (but none of the others I looked at) are selling for 5g. That’s it. 5 freaking gold. So I’m keeping my second. Lol

Personally I think making Legendaries account bond instead of being availiable in the wardrobe is a much better idea.

Why? Because Legendaries are supposed to be ‘unique’. King Arthur didn’t just soulbind his Exalibur and give a fake copy of it to all his knights. It really loses its appeal when it becomes a reusable skin.

Also: massive exploit with Eternity.

Make Sunrise, make Twilight, bind them to unlock skins on both. Make an Eternity and sell it, real most of th cost back. This is a pretty huge exploit.

If they don’t change this, and I don’t see any dev responses on it, it would really wreck the value of Sunrise and Twilight, and perhaps Eternity as well from a surge in people making it.

3 solutions:

1. Remove Eternity from MF. Not sure how happy people would be with it as a discontinued item however.

2. Make Eternity account bound on creation.
3. Make soulbound Twilight and Sunrise unusable for making Eternity.

Someone earlier proposed the solution be this, and I think it’s the best:

If you make eternity with 2 or 1 bound greatswords, it is bound. If you make it with unbound greatswords, it is unbound.

Day.2560:

They could just give a free legendary ticket to barter a legendary skin for the wardrobe (SKIN, not WEAPON).
I.e. if one unlocked two 1h legendaries of the same shape (2 incis, 2 frosties, 2 bolts), the ticket can unlock a 1h legendary skin.
If one unlocked two 2h legendaries (2 twilights, 2 sunrises, 2 juggers) then the ticket can unlock a 2h legendary skin.

People who farmed for dual wielding the same weapon will be happy I guess, and TP won’t be flooded with unbound legendaries in sale.
People who point out a legendary is not about the skin, but it’s the possibility to swap stats, won’t lose anything from this since dual wielders will only get a skin and not a full crafted weapon.

I certainly feel this is the best and most elegant solution.
