You just don’t know them. In that way it is like racism, because people tend to be paranoid about the things they don’t know, and be biased against it.

(Also, many of those players that only want “heavies” are pseudo-speed runners anyway, or people coming from other games, having a cursory knowledge of the meta, and making their own “meta” in their heads about what “works best” in Dungeons. CoF1 farming is gone. I think you are giving too much credit to the exclusivist pugs, and far too little to the pugs who play the other Professions.)

However, to be fair the title of the thread and thread itself is unnecessary, no offense to the OP. I am 100% that not all players that do this would be racist in real-life, so it can be offensive to many. This bias is wrong both ways.

You should never care for “being excluded” because you don’t want to hang out with that type of player anyway, regardless your skill or experience. Make your own group and have fun-you don’t have to let what others consider “fun” get in the way of your own enjoyment of the game.

There’s a distinction here I think is important and I disagree with your thoughts on guild/friends versus pugs. A guildie or friend will be vocal, might be in voip, knows how you play and can adapt to the situation regardless of their class. A pug just doesn’t have that. I’m fine with taking a friend necro and I tolerate guild necros (because I like my guild and don’t want them to think I’m not a team/guild player). There are differences that really shouldn’t be ignored… and saying that a person has no right to exclude specific classed pugs if they would accept a guildie or friend of the same class is just not accurate.

I understand it sucks. As a roleplayer, I really do. But we’re getting so much more than we’re losing which is why this is never going to make sense to me.

I simply disagree, I’m not gaining a single thing from this town clothes change. I’ve never felt the desire to use town clothes in battle and won’t do so in the future. I’m not looking forward to see people wearing christmas hats in battle with dragons, it’s not exactly helpful for immersion. My idea of immersion is to wear practical / cool / mighty looking armor to battle, and then comfortable / stylish / flavour clothes in the town or while RP-ing. Sadly, I seem to be in the minority, and arena.net decided that they can’t make a profit off of people like me, so they’ll target those who want to fight Tequatl while wearing a bikini and sunglasses. Fine, but at least let me state my strong disagreement with this.

Also, this change could be handled a lot better than it is. Why not let players at least modify the tonic they’ll get? Why can’t I choose between a “Wintersday dress + hat” tonic, and a “Wintersday dress + Earmuffs” tonic?

There is not a single reason for why this is not being done, except that it’s apparently too much work for a target audience they don’t care for. Which is why I’m feeling very bitter about this.
Especially considering that I was a paying customer, I and many others (you too it seems) did spend our money on the town clothes they were selling and used them in ways we liked. Now arena.net essentially tells us that they don’t care about us, our money isn’t good enough for them, and instead they try to target players who up until now did not spend money on town clothes, in the hopes that they will buy them once they’re useable in combat. Not great.

Based on your last paragraph it’s apparent you’re taking the decision personally. Anet does not want to do things that upset their paying customers. They aren’t doing this to harm you, to degrade your time and money, or anything else that may keep you from supporting the game. They’re doing it because they have to. Technologically. They have to. More people wanted to wear costumes in combat than wanted to mix and match town clothes for out of combat. Anet decided to change something the majority of the player base thought was antiquated and no good (search Halloween last year, how everyone was upset that costumes could not be worn in combat). As a result it is hurting you. They didn’t do this to hurt you. They did it to solve a problem and to improve the game.

Us paying customers deserve compensation for the losses of our townclothes. They’re offering that, with basically no questions asked. It’s not what you want. I get that. But it’s what is happening. And hey. At least you’re getting something. (Tell that to the Fractal community, and you’ll find out what 0 compensation is like)

This is my adorable little Asura, Awbee the Caring. Seeing how female Asura are restricted to wearing male armor only, she never gets to have any beautiful frills or feathers or other pretty stuff on her armor. On the other hand, she has to wear male armor that expose her chest and whatnot.

This Wintersday dress is a piece of townclothing and the only piece of armor in the game in where my Asura can actually wear the feminine equivalent of the outfit. And she looks adorable in it. I love it, but it’s not complete without the adorable little earmuffs on her big Asura ears.

After the patch, she won’t be able to wear this combination any more, and yes, this mightily kittenes me off. I don’t want to return either the Wintersday outfit nor the Earmuffs, because I love how they look on my character. I want her to be able to wear them together. What the heck else would I ever want to wear the earmuffs with? They were made for the Wintersday outfit! Yet, the combination will be impossible. kittened up.

If you are not willing to change and adapt your armors and characters to the changing world of Tyria that’s too bad. Now you have the ability to actually customize each character easily. Town clothes are so minor it hurts. You hurt me. GG.

I will try and explain this one last time, since you do not use mix and match towns clothes or Role play here.

Tonics are junk. You can not mix and match with them. Anet screwed up when they made certain outs clothes and now we are suck with tonics. They will be sent back for a refund.

So I am now stuck with making all new outfits from the remnants of some skins on different characters that I bought. All of this will take a huge amount of Transmutation Charges for all of my 12 character to get a new sets of role play outfits.

Please top looking at this fork your perspective only, and how little it will effect you. And think how much time, and expense it will effect others!

There were like… no options for customization town clothes wise to begin with. Armor and weapons were the only real customization possible otherwise you look like everyone else in your khaki shorts and hoodie.

Banning classes overall is mostly pointless, but limiting the amount of one class can often be a good idea. Your PuG isn’t going to suffer all that much from having a necro. It will however suffer if you have three of them, or if it’s taking the last spot and you really need x class to fill that spot instead.

Yeah so I once calculated how much I would need to buy in order to buy the minstrel because I just don’t have the time to map complete and farm gold anymore and it was close to 800$. Now even for me, a dedicated gem buyer, this is an immense amount of money for a single weapon… and though I likely spend that amount every couple months it’s still not enough gain for so much money.

GW2 PvE is a (failed?) experiment in no trinity gameplay.

All classes can survive any encounter without need of outside support, with base vitality, and base toughness…using only dodge and skills that actively mitigate damage. Meaning that all stats should be pumped into dps output.

Classes have roles, mesmers and guardians are “support” with reflections, condition removals, and skills only available to their class like time warp or virtues. Every class with the exception of necromancer and engineer also have support roles that need to be fulfilled. But just because they are “support” doesn’t mean they need stats in anything besides dps, all the things they use to support work just as good in zerker as they do in clerics, the difference is 2-4x more dps output (faster fights, less time to mess up, allows to ignore some mechanics compeltely… and lets face it faster is always better.)

Ranger must use spotter and frost spirit (those that don’t are a waste of space honestly, and there are A LOT of you out there)

warrior must use banners

ele must stack might via fire fields

etc…

To “fix” this the core game has to be completely redone from traits to stats to the encounters themselves. The crit dmg changes are not solving anything and is an extremely lazy response to terrible players crying about the “zerker” meta.

edit: there’s a reason why there is a question mark behind failed people. The reason I believe it to be failed is there is an optimal spec that never changes no matter the instance, or group comp. The only changes come from changing 2 or so utilities based on the fight if needed (do i need more condition removals? reflections? etc..). There is no healing mesmer, phantasmal tank, medic engineer, protection guardian, control ele, hexmaster necro, etc… there is just dps X , and certain things expected from them. Because using any of those other specs is just slowing your group down immensely.

I’m not positive but I don’t think he meant what you’re saying. He said that certain classes do have certain things that give them a minor roll in a group. Like a Mesmer with feedback or a banner warrior. But in order to get more specific Roles the entire game needs to be changed. From skills to traits to encounters.

Also rangers in fantasy have never been just range fighters. You’re misusing “ranger” and thinking “archer”.

I like most of that – not that it would ever make RNG chests good and absolutely never in a cash shop – except items that are no longer available, such as Kasmeer’s Staff & Grenth Hood, should not be possible to obtain. I have been thinking about it a lot and I think black lion chests should have some easy item additions.

For instance: perhaps unlimited gathering tools (without animations, just ones that work like the vendor ones) could be a great addition, perhaps similar to the bank contracts. These items could be sold on the TP as long as they aren’t used.

Another idea: black lion armor ticket, which could be exchanged for a piece of a Gemstore armor (like if you just want the Viper skirt, Magitech shoulders, etc.) Leggings and chest pieces could cost more scraps or tickets than say boots or shoulders… you get the drill.

I also think it would be awesome for there to be extremely small chances at previous gem store items, like Grenth hood, Kasmeer staff, etc.

Lol… Just no… No serious speedrunning guild brings necros except when on casual runs, because necros are terrible. The only time they were ever used in serious ones was back when people did FOTM 70+ IIRC, because 1 condi class was nice for dredge.

Be that as it may, I bring my Necromancer in pubs because it’s fun, and since it’s a pub I contribute more to the team than most of the random Warriors or Guardians or Elementalists I run across. I do agree that they have no place in actual speed clears, but in the pub-labeled “speed clears” they’re totally fine. Every pub run is casual, regardless of what the players themselves think.

I don’t understand the no skipping crowd, but I respect your right to play how you want. So I recommend just killing them all…. rather than attempting to stifle the options when running dungeons. Full clears of Arah need to be done and streamed…. please. I’m far too lazy to do it myself.

Then whats the point of having mobs there in the first place. I mean the devs are pretty lazy and havent yet patched the fact that you can skip these mobs. Mobs shouldn’t be skippable, if they are, why were they put there in the first place. Granted Arah is pretty long if you do the mobs but then they should just make the mobs easier or increase the rewards a lot more.

Well I mean what’s hard about killing them? Nothing. There’s a little challenge and skill required to skip them successfully but killing them requires nothing interesting at all. The choice of: kill the things so I don’t need to successfully skip or successfully skip to save time so you can spend more time in dungeons is the trade off. The nice part is the option. I can kill stuff so I don’t have to worry about the difficulty of a skip in Arah or I can learn how to mitigate the CC and damage in order to skip. Depends on my mood. But the choice is there and that is what matters.

But just because they are “support” doesn’t mean they need stats in anything besides dps, all the things they use to support work just as good in zerker as they do in clerics, the difference is 2-4x more dps output (faster fights, less time to mess up, allows to ignore some mechanics compeltely… and lets face it faster is always better.)

Ranger must use spotter and frost spirit (those that don’t are a waste of space honestly, and there are A LOT of you out there)

warrior must use banners

ele must stack might via fire fields

etc…

To “fix” this the core game has to be completely redone from traits to stats to the encounters themselves. The crit dmg changes are not solving anything and is an extremely lazy response to terrible players crying about the “zerker” meta.

edit: there’s a reason why there is a question mark behind failed people. The reason I believe it to be failed is there is an optimal spec that never changes no matter the instance, or group comp. The only changes come from changing 2 or so utilities based on the fight if needed (do i need more condition removals? reflections? etc..). There is no healing mesmer, phantasmal tank, medic engineer, protection guardian, control ele, hexmaster necro, etc… there is just dps X , and certain things expected from them. Because using any of those other specs is just slowing your group down immensely.

I still love to play GW1 and do that quite often with friends.

I’m not positive but I don’t think he meant what you’re saying. He said that certain classes do have certain things that give them a minor roll in a group. Like a Mesmer with feedback or a banner warrior. But in order to get more specific Roles the entire game needs to be changed. From skills to traits to encounters.

Also rangers in fantasy have never been just range fighters. You’re misusing “ranger” and thinking “archer”.

Well unfortunately almost everyone skips these mobs because they are such a short aggro chain.

Well I mean. 1 hit kills from some of these trash mobs can make that point pretty moot. It’s all RNG.

I don’t understand the no skipping crowd, but I respect your right to play how you want. So I recommend just killing them all…. rather than attempting to stifle the options when running dungeons. Full clears of Arah need to be done and streamed…. please. I’m far too lazy to do it myself.

Those you need to run the dungeon for. They do not cost any gold, but requite 1200 or so dungeon tokens. So nightmare armor comes from twilight Arbor, Koda from honor of the waves… etc.

Edit: 1380 tokens for a full set.

I can’t even think of a good RP reason for a burn guardian.

You can use versatile agony resistances, or you can craft various offensive infusions which increase things like power, precision, that sort of thing.
