Try again when you consider all aspects of the game, not just one.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
You could sell an aquabreather on the gemstore?
There is no supply of oxygen to which they connect.
Unless ANet wants to sell virtual air to us.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
I said that nothing is wrong with the dungeon itself, it’s the players and their mentality on how they’re playing the game. If you change that, then suddenly the dungeons work properly.
I agree that nothing is wrong with the dungeons in the context you’re speaking from. What I don’t agree with is how you want to tackle it, and the premise from which you are doing so.
but generally every player in a dungeon has an idea of what they’re doing.
You see that word right there that you cut out? That changes what the entire sentence means. Instead of the sentence meaning every single player out there knows exactly what they’re doing and you’re the problem; now it means usually you get good players and dungeons go fine but sometimes you get people that mess up and that’s what we need to fix.
Semantics, eh? Re-read your own sentence. I’ll give you this alternative sentence to compare.
most players in dungeons have an idea of what they’re doing.
There, much easier to interpret now, eh?

I’m very confident that build will be your final answer.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Since we’re going into immersion breakers, I propose the drowning mechanic, which I’m sure everyone is familiar with how it will work.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
With 25 in Arms you are also hitting Attack of Opportunity, which grants a flat 10% increase in damage against bleeding enemies.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Yes dungeons are different than regular PvE, and need to be balanced differently but generally every player in a dungeon has an idea of what they’re doing. Fix the main PvE zerging mentality and you fix the dungeons. Besides that at some points in some dungeons the number of mobs are arguably way too kittening many (Like 4 out of all the dungeons), nothing is wrong with most of them; it’s all the players.
First of all, although you state that dungeon PvE is different from regular PvE, you pretty much ate your words when you said fixing zerging would fix dungeons. This doesn’t even make sense, you explicitly say one thing, but imply the opposite. You also state that every players in dungeons have an idea of what they’re doing. Using this statement, can you explain why every single day I get miserable failures in my pug groups that clearly do not have any idea of what they are doing? I find it very hard to take your argument seriously when it’s based on unsupported assumptions instead of facts.
If you don’t like my idea for a solution, and the current system is broken, by all means give me your better idea.
How do I fix what isn’t broken? I’ll give you a better idea all right: DON’T FIX WHAT ISN’T BROKEN.
And before anyone says to prevent player models from clipping into each other, would you enjoy it if I got 8 other people to come and box you in at a waypoint you just appeared at?
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
TL;DR: Move shield 5 to F2, then proceed with nerf.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
10% attack speed is quite lackluster for a grandmaster trait. But I guess they won’t rest until every top dps build involves spamming skill 1.
Guardian hammer build isn’t very far from being top DPS, is it?
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Pure axe builds don’t even take 15 in discipline for fast hands right now anyway, so I’m not sure what you’re even talking about. When you go 30 in arms you’ll just take rending strikes, deep strike and dual-wield agility.
Since when did pure axe builds not take 30 in disciple. For axe mastery and Heightened focus? Also who the Eff is using off hand axe?
He is talking about axe mainhand only, also you really don’t need the extra crit chance from Heightened Focus.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
If you can run that, that’d be great. You will be a far greater asset to any team than a necro can hope to be, although there are always the bigoted pugs that kick all rangers. :)
For your reference, the absolute highest maximum DPS party composition is a warrior, a ranger and 3 elementalists.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Nope.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
You’re always going to have those people that abuse the game mechanics, stacks and whatever.
Your ‘fixes’ wont actually do much. Anets fixes havent really been fixing it either.
Really a boss’s AOE should ignore the 5 player cap that players have (It’s fine to keep that limit on players), all damage should be buffed and then the amount that toughness reduces the damage should be buffed as well(As well as having a base level buff so toughness will make it so I can take more than 3 shots as opposed to 1 from a boss).
That will eliminate stacking and flush out the bad players that can’t dodge. The good players that can dodge effectively shouldn’t be punished because of the bad players.
All AOEs should become unblockable, so the only defense is to not be standing in them, as long as they arnt giant circles. Anet seems to like to balance reaction times around some sort of passive speed boosts that most classes have but as a main mesmer, I do not have such a thing and it’s unreasonable to ask me to give up my weapon swap for a speed boost.
That should solve the immediate problem of stacking and bad players counting on the stack to save them.
Heck maybe even give a player 15ish seconds after they’re defeated and if they no one starts reviving them, it instantly makes them waypoint to their nearest uncontested waypoint.
Finally PvP and PvE should be split, changes to one shouldn’t affect the other as changes to PvP can break PvE or the other way around.
I think my eye cancer just skipped straight to terminal.

You’re on to something… it would be incredible with the signet heal.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
I like the one introduced for thieves, but I’m not sure if Executioner is worth dropping for the increased sustain…
Executioner: 20% more damage on enemies below half health
Invigorating Precision: You heal 5% of damage done by critical hits with seemingly no ICD
Thoughts?

Did a level 6 run today and got two thieves… 78 and 36. Pretty much carried them throughout the whole run with the two other guys (necro and engi, lol). The 78 was nice, but the 36 logged out at Jade Maw and didn’t come back… so out he went.
Oh, and it was swamp → Ascalon → dredge → Jade Maw.

“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Let me see if I can produce another set of notes… ah, there we go. Prepare yourselves, ladies and gentlemen!
100% LEGIT PATCH NOTES
Recently there has been an increase in the number of players stacking and using damage gear sets in dungeons. In the past, we made it clear that these are exploits. We will not tolerate them, especially ‘Berserker’ gear. We have made the following changes in order to bring dungeons more in line with our original design manifesto:
- Renamed Berserker gear to Exploiters gear and added intense particle effects that cannot be toggled off. This is to assist players in reporting these exploiters and at the same time disrupt the prevalence of stacking by making it impossible to see.
- Added intangible dredge cars to all dungeons. These dredge cars spawn lots of dredge and themselves have lots of health. Should two of any of these dredge die within 5 seconds of each other, the car will burrow for 5 minutes and return with twice as many dredge, and 10 more Disaggregators. This change is necessary to discourage stacking against the cars and to promote greater immersion in dungeons.
- Following player feedback from the CDI, we have removed all dredge from the Underground Facility fractal. For lore reasons, all dredge have been recalled by the Moletariat to combat exploiters using Fiery Greatswords to kill their kinsmen.
- Replacing the dredge will be Ascalonian Cave Trolls wearing clown costumes. There is exactly one less troll in the fractal than there were dredge, just so people can’t complain that we didn’t do anything about the number of mobs inside.
- All dredge cars have been painted with red, yellow and white colours to represent something. Take a guess!
:)

I can’t check it at the moment, but does that link contain any information about the vendors leaving? I thought that was just the announcement stuff (it’s been a while since I read it).
It didn’t. Makes me wonder whether he actually read it in detail.
Really going away now.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
On their own, a mesmer hits like wet tissue. The highest you’ll probably see from Blurred Frenzy is about 10k or slightly higher, depending on how many buffs you can get from your team and your target’s vulnerability stacks. Mesmers are very reliant on their phantasms for high DPS, but because it can be difficult to keep 3 swordsmen up against a boss that uses AoEs and cleaving melee attacks (which is to say nearly every boss in dungeons where DPS really matters), you’re not going to be outputting that much damage at all.
However, you are the only class that can maintain 100% reflection uptime using your traited wardens, so in any fight that is rich in blockable projectiles, your DPS will soar. Lupicus is an excellent example, a single Feedback in phase 2 when he does his barrage can easily wipe off over 25% of his bar assuming all reflected projectiles crit.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
I’ve played mesmer since beta… believe me if you want a class that can crawl around like a snail mesmers are the perfect choice. If you want a class that can tag well, guardians are a good choice…
FTFY, think positive!

you got warned and informed not once or twice, you were informed and warned a lot
yet still you didn’t do it.The item has a rare status now because of it’s limited availability, if all of a sudden it became available again the other players that did put in the time needed to acquire this item would also feel alienated as if their effort is being nullified.
Except:
1. Not everyone read the announcement because of its limited exposure
2. This isn’t a rare item, though I get where you’re coming from
I’m just gonna go away before I earn myself another point. >_>

So they should send out an obtrusive out of character mail ingame, or worse come up with some lore designed mail, each time they want to convey information, or else patch the game, when they can just announce it here. It’s not like Dev messages are obscure. It’s REAL easy to figure out which ones they are, cause it’s all splattered with red.
No, if someone won’t learn a certain way, then they don’t need to learn and they DO need to miss out. Too bad for them.
Good thing you’re not a teacher, you’d get fired in a second.
Good thing ANet isn’t a school so they don’t have to worry about nonsense like that.
And fortunately you’re not an ANet employee either, I’d take great pleasure in instigating an uproar if you were.

The barrier at the start of SE p3 isn’t new. You’ve had to break part of it for a while now.
You’re confusing the barriers before the second boss with this.

Every good teacher knows that to use a teaching method that isn’t working for the target audience is insanity. This is why we have brains – to come up with alternative methods that will work.
Precisely. The fact that this thread and the others exist is sufficient evidence to prove that the notifications were not far-reaching enough. It’s not just a matter of time, it’s also about exposure. Very few people use the forums relative to the size of the entire player base, and relying on word of mouth is a bad idea since it’s unpredictable.

If the problem is that people won’t learn a certain way, the solution is not to force them to learn through that particular way, but to teach through an alternative.
Use in-game notifications.
