“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Pug engineers are rare though, I’ll hazard a guess that it’s because most people don’t really have any idea how to play one effectively in dungeons.

Lol, you deleted your post. Good thing it still says you’re the thread starter or I’d get my FC doubled again. >_>

in preparation for higher fractals where everything will be a 1 shot so there’s no point to full PTV – you still have all the skills you need with zerker. I love the zerker meta, it means you actually have to use skill to stay alive instead of facetanking and it’s definitly more enjoyable for me to feel that bit of pressure in a game or theres no point to play.
Isn’t this (bolded) a contradiction? Or do you mean facetanking outside of high level fractals?
*trying to facetank
Fixed.

I don’t even. Yeah, um… is he writing for the sake of writing?
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
They could actually make it canon, since the paths are all mutually exclusive. They would however have to “generalise” the heroes (lack of a better word).
CoE, Arah and TA are the exceptions though.

You appear to be contradicting yourself.
Just saying.

If the mesmer loses the stun breaker on sword, at least I know now who to kill.

2. The fact that each zone is a square or rectangle with arbitrary walls (usually steep hills/mountains that keep you from going out of bounds. I WISH that GW2 was truly open-world but I think it has to do with the amount of events in each zone. I think DE’s would break if it was all open-world. Just opening the world map and zooming out makes me cringe because the zones are so awkwardly squared.
Looks like I’ve got a good idea for that dev who keeps trying to stick his invisible walls into Arah…

^ I would like these threads if they were not all asking for longer, time gated, forced paths.
The only thing they should improve with the dungeons is the buggy NPC AI. Past that, the best thing they could do, is advance the stories of these dungeons. It has been more than a year since launch. Surely each dungeon could have a new path or two added.
Yeah, when you suddenly realise the dredge revolution has virtually stopped in time, or that even though you clearly rescued Crea Irontooth she somehow keeps getting herself locked up… One of these days I should just let her die.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Thieves bring extremely high DPS to the party, along with sustained blinds. They’re also meant to pick up the ele conjures since they have more damage modifiers than any other class (except eles themselves).
EDIT: Doh, Saint beat me to it. I’m such a slow typer. :(
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
With requirement like that no one could ever party with me.
I probably would, honestly I wish I’d thought of rainbow chainmail too.

First of all thank you for answering so quickly. I am not here to trash this build but learn new way to play better, hence my question about it being squishy. I want to learn this new (to me) technique.
My rotation quesion was from your (DEKeyzToChaos) statement:
“D/F Fresh Air Rotation
Fire – Flamewall – Burning Speed – Air (before Burning Speed completes) "So I am guessing that you use the flamewall to shoot though, or drop on top of your foe? But how does Burning Speed work with that or do you trigger it after Flamewall dies? you don;t roll though it, do you? Also why the rush to attune to air?
Finally I LET 3 level 11 Arctodus beat me up pretty well ( I was L80), and while being surrounded I hit Arcane Brilliance and got almost no healing at all. So still confused on how to get this to work
thank you so much for your help!
Let me jump in here and answer:
You drop the Flamewall on top of your target. Try to keep your target in it for the whole duration to maximise DPS. As for the Burning Speed, you just use it at a suitable distance (about 360 units away) so that the line intersects with the mob (which is hopefully still in the flame wall) while still managing to hit it with the blast. That’s the cross DEKeyz is talking about, I think.
Also, you have an extra 10% damage modifier while attuned to air, so the sooner you swap to air, the more damage your Flamewall and Burning Speed will do. For the Arcane Brilliance bit, the healing increases by 20% for every target hit, so if it hits the maximum number of targets possible (5) it heals for double the base value. The blast finisher is a big plus. From a healing perspective if you use it while in a water field and have 5 targets it’s going to heal you for ~80% of your max health.

What do you have against sellers, mate? Here’s a short anecdote: I was literally thanked by 3 buyers who bought my Arah P2 slots at the end of my practice run for the service I was doing for them.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
I should note that not having 30 in Dueling hurts your DPS in situations where a mesmer is actually useful – namely where your reflects are needed. You not only lose ~5% crit chance and 10% crit damage, you also lose the Empowering Mantras trait, which boosts your personal damage by up to 16% (though it’s usually 12% because Feedback takes up a utility slot). Reflect damage doesn’t scale with your own power, but it does use your crit chance and damage and any active damage modifiers you have, so in fights like Lupicus phase 2 that are very projectile rich, 12% more damage is nothing to laugh at.

First off, stick with your zerker gear. Learn to adapt to it. If you really must use a crutch to assist, swap it out for knights’ gear (not soldiers’). Obal of DnT has a good guide to building a DPS guardian for PVE stickied in this very forum.
Secondly, see the link in my signature? It’ll direct you to the Dungeon Mentors thread. Be sure to give it a good read.
Thirdly, ideally you should do all the dungeons, as your performance in them is not solely dictated by your own personal skill, but also your knowledge about the encounters within and the strategies used to tackle them. A mentor can help you with this assuming you seek one out.
Lastly, this comes under knowledge of the encounter, and there aren’t any programs that can help you with this. You’ll have to learn it yourself, reflexes are something no one can directly help you with.

That was obvious from the very beginning. Cookie did what he had to do on this forum.
That level of sarcasm was apparently too high for some people. O_O
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Assuming you’re talking about getting through dungeons quickly and efficiently, the optimal party is one that focuses very largely on DPS. With that in mind, if I recall correctly your party composition should be:
1x Warrior (for the banners of strength and discipline, possibly Empowered Allies too)
1x Ranger (Spotter and traited Frost Spirit)
2x Elementalist (Fiery Greatsword elite)
Last man can run any class, though if absolute maximum group DPS is in mind this slot will be filled by a 3rd ele. Otherwise, I’d run a guardian for the defensive support.
You should avoid having too many guardians as one will cover all the defensive support you could ever need.
Mesmer is highly reliant on reflects and keeping their phantasms up for high DPS, you’ll more often than not be gimping your own party by bringing one.
Thief is extremely high DPS (combination of good power scaling on their main weapon sets and having multiple damage modifiers checked) and having one will trivialise any trash skip, as you’ve likely seen in the CM video.
Engineers are a bit of an oddity, I don’t have much information on them.
Necromancers have comparable DPS to warriors, but they have no cleave on any of their weapons, making them very inefficient for clearing multiple groups of trash in quick succession. Also, whatever support a necro brings is easily outdone by a thief, so I’d avoid these like the plague (pun not intended).
Well, that’s what I can think of. I could be wrong, but then I’m probably not far off even if that’s the case.
EDIT: If you read this edit, I cannot stress how important it is for you to make sure your guardian runs a DPS setup and not some clerics healer-tank build, that’s trash. Obal has a good guide to building a DPS guardian here. This setup actually offers good defensive support in exchange for a slightly lower (but still good) DPS.

The people asking for heavies only are severely gimping their own party’s potential DPS, I had a good laugh when I saw a 4-warrior party that advertised speedrun.

I wonder why you waste your time like this, guys… arguing against brick walls. I love you, but sometimes I think you really need an injection of “can’t-do-much-about-it-let-go” or “this guy again I better ignore him”.
By the way, why is there still someone complaining about Kholer but not a meow on the matter of the TROLL?!?! That guy is freaking RIDICULOUS, come on. It wipes the floor with my face everytime I forget how terrible it is and I try to fight it. Not fair for a newbie like mahself.
But everyone knows feeding the troll is unwise, much less offering yourself up to him… :3

Wall of text below this line
Whenever I see the term elitist being used to describe the dungeon forum regulars, I get rather amused (and somewhat saddened). The term ‘elitist’ is generally used pejoratively to describe somebody who looks down on those who are less skilled than them, and refuse to help said less skilled people achieve a higher skill level. My personal experience with them indicates otherwise. Let me try my best to describe someone that my fellow regulars can easily match the description to.
This person has been permanently banned twice from the forums for being excessively rude (however funny it gets). His posts can sometimes be highly condescending, but in his defense, he was doing so to people who were being obtuse. Having talked to him myself though, I’ve found him to be genuinely helpful and a nice person, and he has on multiple occasions offered to practice Arah duos/trios with me. What am I hoping to describe with this example? That not all people you call elitists are what you think they are.
They seem unwelcoming at first, but ponder over the state of the dungeon forum slowly – it’s been neglected for a very long time now, and the regulars have grown rather weary of having to deal with the same old nonsense. Sometimes we get threads that genuinely ask for help, and we do offer advice accordingly, but most of the time we tend to get narrow minded people who just can’t accept that we, the ‘elitists’, are actually abiding by the mantra that they chant – I PLAY HOW I WANT YOU FILTHY ELITIST! And that by coming into the dungeon forum to tell us for the thousandth time that stacking and skipping trash mobs are exploits, they are infringing on our freedom to play how we want, and at the same time displaying a woefully inaccurate (if not low) understanding of how the game works.
I’m not an articulate person, and I find joy in trolling dumb people, as my post history indicates. I strongly distrust pugs, and it usually takes me at least 20 minutes to decide whether I really want to join pugs or not because I perceive them to be unpredictable and completely unreliable. But does that make me an elitist? I don’t think so. There are too many circumstances in effect to even describe, but let me say that I truly do enjoy helping those in need more than I like to troll bigots. I simply don’t get enough requests for help to be noticed as a helpful person.
Two cents’ worth of what I think.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Don’t worry, I was using carrion and cleric on my elementalist with staff attunement dancing.
One year ago I was using full carrion armor and magic find trinkets and attunement dancing too, while on my mes I used full soldiers’ gear and camped staff in dungeons and thought the 2k hits were kitten when in reality I was hitting like wet tissue.
