Howdy,

Tonight I logged in thinking I was two pips away from tier… let’s do it! Unfortunately anet had different plans. My MMR must be amazing, as my little sapphire self keeps getting pitted against ruby and diamond groups. Much more likely, is that anet’s matchamaking system is broken, as has been pointed out numerous times and I doubt is ever going to be adjusted.

Anyway, having my bum handed to be 20 times in a row tonight gave me some idea for ways anet could attempt to add some semblance of balance to the game:

Guardian:
1) Traps should take a second or two to set like the other classes, and they should be able to drop them all in one throw. You throw one, short cool down, throw the next. or make them visible like the necros marks…
2) Temper the damage on the traps and shortbow. The shortbow already has knockback, it shouldn’t knock most classes down to half health in one hit at the same time (and that’s with full toughness and vitality armor and runes). Likewise… traps shouldn’t be an instant no thought k.o..
3) Shorten the range of the pullchain. It should be the same distance as scorpion wire.

Elementalist:
1) Increase the cooldowns between skills, or seriously downgrade the armor. When 3 people dps’ing an ele can’t bring it to 90% health, there’s an issue.

Engineer
1) same thing as ele.
2) stealth copter, halve the time.

Mesmer:
1) Temper the damage on shatter.
2) shorten the base stun times

Revenant:
1) Just needs to be brought more in line with the other classes in general. It’s a thief with heavy armor.
2) shorten the hit absorb skill

Warrior:
1) more stun break,
2) increase the armor
3) there’s one sword skill that needs nerfed, 1 hit ko style

Thief:
1) make toughness and vitality actually count for something. currently, other classes do 1 hit of 20-30k… find me a thief with that much hp.
2) Swiftness buff
3) fix the animations, too much lag
4) shadow refuge, shorten the time it takes for the aoe circle to disappear

Ranger:
1) Druid toughness needs scaled way back. 1 druid can take 3-4 people currently.
2) pew pew shouldn’t track stealth characters

Necro:
1) scale down the toughness slightly.

Basically, make thief and warrior playable again.

The revive one I’m not a fan of… I run in small groups and being able to stealth and rez sometimes is what let’s us take out some of the larger groups. Also the part about not being able to rez off of downing someone… when I’m down I don’t do as much damage as the other classes, so oftentimes we focus someone else who drops to grab the rez… if only one gets rezzed defeats the point, and with the bl being so enormous, it’s another month to get back to the area we were in if we have to wp.

I don’t like this idea. Seems like a too strong hard counter for traps to me. And it would make the trapper rune less useful too, because if you are setting a trap to stay invisible, the thief can tell where you are by seeing the trap.

I would just decrease the damage of dragon hunter traps and call it a day. The other traps are fine in my opinion.

…so you’re saying that if a DH is using trapper runes it should be absolutely nothing like shadow refuge…

Same issue here… I’m freaking stuck at emerald because 4 pips in a tier means it’s time to throw twitch teams at you.

We had 1 bunker, the 65 point dude… They just redirected their 2 free people to where ever he was… done. Balance is totally busted. The match ups are annoying too… I’ve got friends who I can steamroll 1 v 1 or even 1 v 2 who are ruby now. I’m stuck in emerald.

Last match of the night… no one on my team scored more than 65 points… 3 of us 25 points or less…with 1 being 0 points. They bunkered all 3 points and 1 shot everyone as we tried to take the point.

I’m in the same boat… 10-15 matches isn’t an uncommon steamroll chain. That’s what is making me think I may have hit my last straw with this game. Everyone likes to win a match now and then, and it’d be nice to be able to go up a tier :P.

Pips are seemingly assigned and taken away mostly randomly… also, when you’re at 4 pips, it seems there’s a higher likelihood you’re gonna be matched up against a team that will absolutely destroy you, dropping you 1-2 pips. I’ve won matches and not gained a pip, lost matches and gained, won and lost, lost by like 3 points and lost 2 pips, and pulled off upsets and gotten nothing. It’s a roll of the dice, much like team comp. People bag on people saying they suck at their class and should kill themselves, but honestly it comes down to was an Amber person just starting PvP put on a team with 4 diamond players with twitch channels.

They rarely even post in their own forum anymore… I find out about most changes either through reddit… or by logging in and being surprised when my settings have reset.

The first offense is a 3 minutes penalty. If you are having a 30 minutes time out is because you missed a lot of queues. Every time you miss a queue, the other 9 players miss them as well and have to be reintroduced. Sorry to say it, but you are making them waste time as well and being penalized with longer queues.

I missed one queue…once… and was penalized 30 min.

Between people MMR tanking and a bad algorithm, ranked PvP is AWFUL now… you either steamroll the other team or get steamrolled, there are no even matches. Emerald tier and Amber tier pugs are being set upon by sappire and ruby guild teams. C’mon anet. 10-12 matches in a row where it’s people in div 2 going up against people like Caed? That’s before factoring in the complete lack of class balance.

If nothing else, please lighten up on the pip system. Make it so that you’re less likely to lose a pip when you get absolutely rolled over at least until you get around to actually fixing the game. The game has become more luck than skill, particularly for pug groups (people have actually suggested avoiding forming a party with more than 3 people because it increases your chances of fighting div 4 and 5 teams).

The game is losing it’s fun factor. It’s not enjoyable to your butt handed to you time and time again, only to see at the end of the match that the people you are against are leagues ahead of you and that you shouldn’t have even been matched up to begin with.

Please stop punishing players so harshly if they have an uncontrolled disconnect. Every so often my comp loses internet connection for a few seconds and I have to restart the client. When that happens I pray to jebus I’m not in a match or it’s 20 min dishonor.. It’s hard enough trying to tier up against a broken tier system. Not being able to play is just sad.

You’re lucky, you’ve made it to Ruby… everytime I get to 4 pips in Emerald, the next match I’m up against 3 rubies and 2 sapphires :P.

With this meta, depending on the comp, they don’t have to rotate… 1 character can spill coffee on their keyboard, taking out 3 people on the other team in the process. You get 3 or 4 players doing this on one team… it’s over. Like when you get a comp of 2 bunker ele’s, and 3 dragonhunters vs 3 thieves and 2 warriors… the dh and eles can hold all 3 points pretty much indefinitely.

Same issue here… all my settings are getting reset. My camera is buggy as crap and is making me sick to my stomach, and I’m rubberbanding and getting logged out to either the log in screen or a hard crash all the time… which sucks because when you lose a match because of it you get 15 minutes of dishonor.

Really? Cuz I rarely lose a 1v1 on my Daredevil and my MMR is high enough to get matched against Chaith and Caed. So unless by some cosmic coincidence every single enemy I’ve killed on DD is bad, I doubt DD is only good for door dueling.

Daredevil isn’t as amazing as other specs but it still has its merits, budd. But I do think that Daredevil doesn’t bring much to team fights so yeah other classes are better than it in high tier pvp.

Good for you… no idea who those people are, nor am I concerned. I want to love Daredevil—really I do. As you said though, it’s not as good as any of the other specs. Like the final boss fight in HoT it feels like it was slapped together last minute. I don’t think it’s coincidence that the specializations that were announced first are the ones that are doing the best. They had more work put into them. Daredevil plays as an afterthought, which hopefully they’ll improve on.

Every class does have higher DPS than thief, better armor, better speed, better stealth. Since HoT I get chewed out quite often if I bring a thief into a PvP match because they are absolutely the worst class in the game now.

Why not Rank icons for WvW rank? PVP got them

yep I’m completely leaving my thief class, playing dragon hunter now, kitten my level of skill just increased by over 9000

I’ve lost more brain cells playing pew pew ranger than sniffing concentrated petrol.

In some cases it’s a nerf, denying you access to that swiftness which you might need if it comes down to a decap to win a PvP match, or if you’re running hidden thief and just need the stealth.

Mostly, though, it’s a buff. I lost count how many times I’ve missed steal because I press it a millisecond after my target enters stealth. This patch should prevent steal from going off in such cases, allowing me to use it for its full effect.

No, mostly it’s just a nerf, as it means that you cannot activate your buffs without a target.

lmao, this cannot be a pve issue because that would be ridiculous. Is this a pvp/wvw issue? because i can list several reasons why you shouldnt be using steal without a target.

While it makes sense the skill should work only with a target, this change shows how the class needs some form of self buffing.

For melee staff it is the only skill that does ANY damage. 1 is like a friendly poke, 2 is that special kid running into walls (seriously… wth anet). 3 is just meh. 4 supposedly blinds people, have yet to see it actually work outside of PvE. 5. OMG it actually hits things, sometimes, when aimed right, if set up as full glass.

Here’s the simple way to counter a thief.

1) Choose any other class.
2) Target the thief (or don’t… seriously, dragonhunter especially, don’t even need to look at the screen)
3) push “1” on your keyboard… or spill something on it. Or let a small child push buttons at random… anything really.
4) Thief is dead, congratulations…. Wait a few days and thief will be even easier to kill as Anet nerfs thief with every update.

… not actually a buff… at all. Even weakened you can be built as tanky as a thief can get and you’re a one shot, for any class though especially dragonhunter.

We don’t counter anything anymore. We’re trash. I can call a match before it begins if there is a thief on one side and not the other. We can nuke other thieves…if we get the first hit in. Otherwise we can take out people that are afk… and even then that’s only some classes.

Our guild got our first “tactic” dragon banner…but we can’t use it. I’ve claimed Klovan Post and we’ve waited 30 minutes…but it shows as locked and won’t let us activate it. Help?

Honestly I’ve thought shared basilisk was bugged because I’ve never seen it work. And most classes don’t need the other venoms… chill, stun, and poison are built in. The new finisher is the only saving grace but it has to be timed perfectly or it fails… it actually takes as long as a regular finish. Staff won’t get needed it’s still the weakest weapon a thief has access to. 3 dodges seems to be an improvement… however 2 out of 3 will force you out of stealth which is most thieves way of getting out of a fight and the third one has a pause where your evade has passed but you’re not able to use anything else yet. A good hammer swing and game over. I played as a dragon hunter for 30 minutes and it took 2 or 3 of any class to take me out with me having zero idea what I was doing.

It’s not a coincidence that the superior rune of the daredevil has toughness in it =) I for one love the added sustain.

The added toughness is a joke. Do an experiment, have a dh drop their traps… step in without any armor on… try again with full toughness. Either way you’re still gonna go down.

This thread has so much overwhelming evidence which proves that even though the value of Thief is less than 1, it is still OP.

No other profession can pull off the many stunts that a Thief can.

We get hat tricks…. and actually, every class can pull off our stunts. Rev for shadowsteps (twice as many in half the time we do), Mesmers and Engi’s outstealth us. We finally got a knockdown but if you see anyone running with a staff they are only hunting other thieves and the knockdown is a one trick pony as you have to be in stealth to do it to begin with. Guardians have better traps and burst damage now… and ALL of these classes get access to all the other boons which thieves don’t.

Daredevil is A..W..F..U..L… granted… if you trying playing without daredevil you’re worse off than playing just as a thief. Though honestly all the mechanics seem like an afterthought. If you do go Daredevil leave the staff at home, it’s better as a decoration than something useful in combat.

Yeah, deadly in 1v1 should be dead in 1v1. We used to have the speed advantage, and stealth in exchange for all the other boons. Now we don’t have a speed advantage, we don’t have a stealth advantage, and we still miss out on all the other boons.

The toughness is a throwaway stat… getting one shotted MUCH more than before HOT. Daredevil is ok in pve, terrible in wvw, and seriously…why even try in PVP? The animations are nice yes.. but by the time the animation is done your target is on the other side of the map… so what’s our new role? Jester?

I’d LOVE to know what traps thieves have that can one shot anyone. We literally have none of that. We have one trap that will let us shadowstep to you…when you hear the pop drop your aoe’s and we’re dead. We have a trap that when triggered brings another thief npc into combat for like 30 seconds… and he has the health of a sickly beaver. We have the needle trap which poisons you, press 6 and clear your condition. Oh and we have the caltrops…which cripple you for a few seconds so we can try to get away before you hit us once downing us.

Amen the staff does need some sort of overhaul. Right now the only thing worth a cent on it is the 5 skill…. and it’s not worth a nickel at that.

If you have daredevil runes go with valkarie or marauder… you won’t need the precision as much as the dodges will help with that. Otherwise zerker because really that’s all the thief is really good at. In pvp condi can be ok sometimes, but that’s increasingly rare. While in pve condi is useless.

Thief player here as well…was my first character and still is my preferred character. I’d say run… ANY other class is more playable. You can get along ok in PVE (you’ll die far more often than any other class). WVW you lost your only advantages with HOT’s release (stealth and speed compared to other classes), and in PVP thief is pretty much worthless at the moment. Unless ANET suddenly wakes up one day and decides for a total overhaul I suggest saving yourself and your friends hours of frustration and choose ANY other class.

Rewards from personal story and events are sometimes not appearing in my inventory. The reward might list 4 items, and I’ll get 2, for example. Thoroughly reviewed the bags to make sure one wasn’t collapsed.

On this issue… look at the description of the items… I noticed the things that supposedly upgrade the backpack are “consumed immediately” though I didn’t see the effect. The mastery bags are auto consumed as well and you should see that on your exp bar.

Hearts and Minds is still unplayable. Is it possible to have my 2 celebration boosters refunded as they both went to waste in my multiple attempts to finish this instance? Zero experience for 20 tries, and bugged every time.
