It seems like people that play wvwvw like the dailies cause you do all of it without thinking about it and they tell all the pve people that complain that it’s easy it only takes a 20 minutes just like how a lot of wvwvw people complain about monthlies because you have to go out the way to do dungeons and pve people say stop crying a dungeon run is only 20 minutes… Hmmmmmm
If you have to intentionally go out and dodge and have a hard time doing it, I wonder how its like when you play wvwvw or dungeons or just the game in general. Pls dont invite me to your party, … Or actually , invite me to your party so I can get my daily heals done faster
this is for wvwvw, and playing so much wvwvw, i feel like mobility is the best thing for wvwvw, running to objectives, escaping for survivability, sticking to enemies, moving around in and out of stealth. so i based my build around expeditious dodger and feline grace.
10 critical strikes – v pistol mastery
30 shadow arts – iv shadows embrace, vii power shots, xi shadows rejuvenation
15 acrobatics – ii power of inertia
15 trickery – v thrill of the crime
lots of health regen if you pick up omnomberry ghost and SoM from sneak attack and trick shots
p/v/t armor with 2 air, 2 pact and 2 speed berserker trinkets
berserker shortbow with sigil of energy and p/d with sigil of energy and accuracy
your gonna have lots of endurance to dodge while giving yourself swiftness and might, ranged weapons to kite, and each weapon swap gives a free dodge to keep the cycle going. the best part about this is your gonna constantly cripple the target with dancing dagger and disabling shot while creating alot of distance and if they go range, you can play up close witht he p/d to pop in and out of stealth. lots of stuns also with cnd, swapping to sb to surprise shot
the ability to stick to your enemy and create distance is just rediculous, this is my favorite trolling build that can dish out some good dps
I was running around today with one sword in pve today killing some risen monsters and I popped thieves guild and I noticed how much I looked like michonne from the walking dead at the end of the second season (dunno bout copyrights if I post a pic so google it if ur unfamiliar) and i thought, " I wanna summon two zombies with no arms now instead of 2 thieves" so I got to thinking,
What if we can customize the way the 2 thieves look when we use thieves guild, that would be a nice feature to make them match the way our thief looks
When you stealth stomp that’s all your doing … Stealthing while stomping, your not immune, there’s been plenty of times I got greedy for a stomp and still got aoed down myself, or knocked back to have it backfire on me.

It seems like that since no p/d thief out there uses shadow strike, the dual skill for p/d, a lot of people just don’t expect a thief to use it. So I was running around wvwvw earlier today just using just shadow strike and nothing else, not even auto attack and the results was just hilarious. Everyone is just swinging away when thinking I CnD and when they reazlied where i was at they would runtowards me and ill just do it again and they swing away once again. There was even one encounter I found a warrior at anzalia ( did I spell that right? ) and only taking small steps to land my shadow strikes we made our way to almost ogres lol , if only I have fraps or something
for the gs, im not sure what build your running, but with mines i have leg specialist and a sword for swap, i have leg specialist traited and a sigil of hydromancy, one for my favorite combos is to leap with sword cripple which adds immobolize, flurry to immbolize some more, swap to gs activating the freeze blade trail again to immoblize some more and then use hb. the sigil also doubles for a defensive option too because like you mentioned, the gs is very mobile so a freeze is nice with 3 and 5 to escapse.
thats just my opinion for the gs, as for comparing it to axe axe ill let the other warriors compare that

ive considered what both of you mentioned about the 10 in shadow arts and 15 in deadly arts before, so i might lost the 10 and 5 in critical strikes and pick up the 15 that way, i dont want to give up anything in acrobatics because of the playstyle ive adapted and i like the extra ini.
and i for the cluster spam with smokescreen, ive kind of known about it but never utilized it, does it give you reveal if someone walks into your clusterbomb?

I saw a thread recently about builds for shortbow and how there’s really none out there ( if there is I haven’t seen any also) and feeling the same way as the OP I thought I try to make one and came up with this pretty fun build that can still do a lot of damage. Not sure if this is a build people know of already or similar to anything but like I said, I haven’t seen any before and any tips or suggestions are welcome
I have 2 shortbows with sigil of energy and armor and trinkets are all berserker with 2 runes of air, pact, and speed for the swiftness
I might mix in some some knights and valk but I’ve been able to be survive surprisingly well with all berserker
So pretty much, go find some people to shoot and use disabling shot to cripple themwhile you dodge back to gain swiftness and removing any cripple or weakness they might throw at u and swap bows for initiative and endurance, if they start caching up to you use infiltrator arrow and go another way and just kite till they drop
For healing and condition removal I picked up shadows embrace to use with shadow refuge and shadow step to remove conditions and it also doubles for kiting
And eatting omnom berryghost works really well for healing especially when there’s more than 1 target for the auto attack to bounce off of for the healing procs
Its a pretty fun build intentionally having groups chase you lol and I hope anyone that was looking for a shortbow build likes this

i was using d/p p/d for condition also, it was pretty fun, bleeds with p/d and poison with d/p, it was already QQ enough from stealth in p/d, it was worst when i was in d/p blinding ppl to add venoms just to swtich back to p/d lol

I would mug CnD and sneak attack, because its lazier and easier than backstab, you don’t have to run behind them, don’t need bas venom so u can pick up another elite, and usually everyone is under %50 then you heart seeker away. If they were bunkers, pistol still do good damage regardless of what everyone says, I would just shoot them a couple more times and heart seeker away
Which runes and sigils you used?
Full berserker equip doesn’t give you decent amount of hp imho, I would like to have 16k hp at least.
What do you think about berserker armor + any trinket precision and vitality?
i was aiming towards having some bit of hp at first for any build, and feel like it was pointless, cause ur gonna get bursted down if ur caught, so i usually try to apply a high hp regen in my builds usually somehow (omnomberry ghost and SoM works really good with pistols sneak attack imo)
i didnt really try to find a good set of runes or sigils so i just used rubies on all my armor, but i think its a must to have on the p/d set a sigil of hydromancy so when ur using d/p you can shadowshot and weapon swap for an easy cnd hit, its like having a free bas venom every weapon swap that way for your cnd

Not too sure on gear because I’m not 80 myself, but I myself don’t pick up berserkers power anymore because I tend to use earthshaker alot so I usually don’t have that much adrenaline to make it useful enough, so maybe lose the 10 there and put it somewhere else?

I usually don’t really get annoyed by animations but after playing with the gs for a bit now, I realized that when you use blade trail you throw your gs and your still magically holding onto another one and for some reason this bugs me lol
So I was thinking to myself all the different kinds of animations and things for fun I would add on there myself if your really waiting for your gs to fly back.
Since I have the smallest female with a huge gs, I was thinking about if there was a trait that when I catch it I would fly back like 600 range and knock down anyone behind me and giving myself a daze and I would stand back up with a dazed animation like wtf was i thinking
Was curious to see what kind of ideas for animations or anything to fill in that time your waiting for gs to fly back people can come up with.
I’m on the same boat, and i feel like knights gear is a good choice for being so indecisive since warriors have a lot of hp to make up for the lack of vit. At first I was really goin towards the hammer, and I still like it, but playing around with the great sword now, I realize what people mean by the gs being really mobile, in fact I barely use hb. I guess u can do what I’m Doing and just put in some hours for each weapon set untill you get a combo that feels fun and work your build and gear around that

I’ve planning on goin more offensive with knights gear so all the toughness would be better for me with armored attackand and with versatile power and a sigil of battle on both weapon sets I’m usually at around 18 stacks of might with runes of strength. Imma wait till i hit 80 and see if i wanna stick with a full set for the extra 5% while Having might or going for more might duration and see if i can push it to 25 stacks and if i can benefit more from that in those longer wvvw fights. IMO that’s enough of a trade off for the offensive side to give up the healing.
thanks for the suggestion Attic, i didnt really realize that about the fury and swiftness, and i thought that the arms tree would increase crit damage, but its condition damage which is a bit odd.. but noticing what you mean by the arms tree doing nothing, im deciding to go with this 0/0/25/20/25 going for the same playstyle but more might stacking with sigil on superior battle on both weapon swap and runes of stregnth for the extra %5 damage with might buffs thats working really well with fast hands and versatile power. If im having this much success and fun in spvp and its usually even better in wvwvw for me, so thanks again for leading me in a better direction
This has happened to me a couple times, and ontop of that, the achievement for capturing stonemist is bugged for me also, I only have 1 capture of stonemist when I know I have capped it at least 10 times

for gears imma go knights gear probably with valk trinkets.
for playstyle, right now i usually like to run with small groups in wvwvw, so with this its kinda like a mix for ccing the target for the rest of the group to damage down, and having a bit of damage myself everytime i immobolize which gives me fury ontop of SoR and FGJ.
so im looking for a rune and sigil setup that can help with that, i was thinking 3 rune of citadel and 3 rune of fire for the extra power and extra fury and might time, but it seems like i always have those 2 up so would there be a better rune choice and for sigils, im not sure what would compliment this best

I’m glad to see that you’ve adapted to the Thief playstyle, that’s great!
i think this is a big part of the thief, adapting to the situation no matter what youre running with, but i guess that applies to all professions, just more for the thief

I was thinking about a reward system that awards the server for not just winning but a reward system that would make people contribute to helping their server. Something like a ranking system within each world that keeps track of everything you do like kills, camp defends, wall repairs, etc and at the end of the week the highest person in each category would get a reward, I wanna say 100 gems, but knowing anet something more realistic would be …. Maybe…. >.> a gem shard where you can combine 4 to make 1 gem … -_-;

You can also try apothecary gear with undead runes, there’s no vit if u go all apothecary but all the toughness with the healing should cover for that , even through a Gs hundred blades or bs while getting shot by a siege cannon from my experiences

I thought of just a few seconds… like increasing it from 3 seconds to 5 – 7 seconds.
So it will compensate for the time the thief needs to load for the other players when he gets out of stealth.
And with the standard initiative regeneration cloak and daggers 6 initiative would need 8 seconds to regenerate.
It would not effect his overall damage output that much.I dont see any problem with increasing the duration of the “revealed” debuff.
If you want to make changes like that over something that affects everyone, not just thieves, you gotta make changes to every class then like making the range on kill shot for warriors 600 range instead of 1500 that way if they are closer theyll render faster for me so i can see them before they shoot me…
The only thing I got from that is that you want a skill that can permastunlock an enemy commander and if damage is inflicted upon you, you’ll blow up stonemist castle with semtex ?
Gotta say 2 thieves are just fun, you guys are gonna be able to go against 10 people easy and drown in a river of QQ tears

the best way to be a thief is well, to be a thief, not the class itself, but you have to be just a sneaky and quick and you gotta adapt and improvise. Guess what, a good thief will be doing all that regardless of his build and your build. But that should apply to everyclass, but imo just applies more to a thief
As a P/D WvW thief the best counter people have used is simpy learning the C&D animation and timing dodges, and saving disables for when they can’t dodge.
This runs out my initiative pretty fast and forces me to withdraw, allowing the opponent plety of time to recharge cooldowns and ends up with me either choosing to get out of the fight, or committing to the encounter at substantial risk of death due to not having enough initiative to properly escape.
Pretty much this, countering CnD is the best way to fight a p/d, when you make them use up their initiative, it’s the bet time to go aggressive making them use their utilities
I just got 2 thing I wanted to add to this thread, when you’re playing a p/d thief it’s actually easier to survive with more targets IMO especially melee targets because there’s not just one target to CnD for stealth but ( I’ll take op I.e. ) three and they’re actually going towards you so u don’t have to chase for your cnds now add that with the healing previous posters have mentioned. But it’s also gonna be harder to finish off anyone like a lot of people mentioned. Second thing is I’m currently running a 10/30/30/0/0 build for p/d with SoM and shadow rejuvenation and I use omnomberries that’s an extra 300 + heal for each hit if they all proc which happens more times than you think. So with 15k hp I’m always going from half way to full like nothing

Hi, I wanted to ask what kind of stats can knights gear achieve , I’m currently aiming towards around 50% crit chance 15k hp and as much power and toughness after that.
I’m run a crit p/d build and i gotta say, with all the d/d eles everywhere, I’m glad I found this build out. When the eles are all up on me, I CnD them for 3k stealth and fart around for a couple secs sneak attack them for 3k and auto them for 1k each, and usually by then, they’re in mist form running from me while I’m chasing them. If they run they usually get away and those that don’t and come back for more, they pretty much made a bad decision and go down.
To OP , don’t take all this to the head, I’ve learned that in this forum, thieves get no love, except from other thieves, and even then, sometimes you only get love from othe thieves that play the same weaponset
Didn’t you guys know they changed the name for badges to “spike” and it has a little claw picture, cause every hour of wvw I play I pick up like 500 of those -_-

So I wanna try out an ele for wvw, and I know people always say a staff ele is good in wvw for walls and aoes, but I remember watching his guy on YouTube that was a staff ele taking on pretty large groups with a staff. I never see this, ever only dd eles nowadays, my question is, is it possible to still play an ele like that or was it something more possible during beta?
