Ow, poor sacapoontos
in wvwvw, if i was in full pvt everything, with zero trait points in stregnth, how much damage would my auto attacks do around?
(edited by Loading.4503)
I’m fairly new to the game so this is more of a spvp experience than wvwvw yet and I was just about to ask about this same weapon set combo, but so far I’ve been running 0/20/30/0/20 with endure pain, shake it off and bulls charge and I was using berserker gear
Hello, my friend passed his account to me due to his new job scedule preventing him from playing, i dont know much about this game, but im pretty familiar with mmos, in general so ill learn quick
but anyways, im currently on the jade quary server and my comp cannot handle all the people i keep running into in wvwvw, and i think he said something about limited time free transfers, so i wanted to look for a smaller population server
and one more question, he said peobably the only thing thats worth anything besides the gold he left me was “laurels” was hoping someone can can just kind of tell me really quick what that is because i dont see a items anywhere in my bank inventory called laurels
i was trying to find a build for a warrior since i think imma roll one now and ive been playing this one in spvp for a a bit and its pretty fun if you like big numbers
0/30/0/10/30 make sure you pick empowered in tactics tree and sigil of intelligence for the rifle, runes of lyssa and ive been using berserker gear
pretty much ive just been doing this combo start with the axe, sword
impale>throw axe>eviscerate>cyclone axe>rip>weapon swap>signet of fury>signet of rage>fear me> kill shot>volley
sounds like alot but once you get use to the combo its actually pretty quick and youll see big numbers from your eviscerate, rip and killshot to finish off with a volley
note* this is just a fun build if you like seeing big numbers, not saying this is a min max build or something with good survivability, but youll feel so good when you land the combo
I think this is more fitting for a rifle, but were not gonna get a rifle, how about a skill kinda like the rifle in the story quest where it’s like catapult. The longer you hold the button, the stronger the attack gets, but it’ll also consume more initiative
Try switching your offhand dagger and mainhand dagger around >.>
i e gone through many different builds using very similar setups and ive played this one and different variations of this one and it is fun
if your good with weapon swapping, consider swapping out quick recovery for quick pockets, its one more initiative 1 second faster.
and bas venom is a nice choice also imo, so you can have then on the caltrops that much longer
guess i cant CnD the guy using the cata to death inside the enemy zerg anymore … AS easily, still do able
imo, the shortbow is the opposite of our other weaponsets where it is more dependent on the choices of runes, sigils and utilities, whereas the other weaponsets we pick our traits to make the build and the utilities, etc.. compliment the build.
ive been trying out ALOT of different ways to incorporate my shortbow more as my main instead of a secondary utility weapon and that is what ive noticed.
you just pick up hidden killer for 100% crit if your worried about your crit chance.
i have 40% on my thief and my personal preference thats a good number, i still see alot of crits where it seems like its actually like 70% but i still pick up hidden killer to make sure my backstab lands
If dodge for might also applies to bow 3 I would love that
if your playing a backstab d/d thief, you can cast bas venom after you steal instead, so that it applies on backstab that way you can throw gunk afterwards and get some auto attacks in to apply some conditions, and when they move out the way, heartseeker to get chaos armor. Applying your bas venom this way on necros is good also, get some auto attacks in when it breaks, cast fear and it should perfect timing to land a cnd and backstab again.
Withdraw works pretty well for a dodge build, espeacily if you combine it with Vigor on Heal and Runes of the Adventurer, but you will lose orb or rune dps then.
This combination allows pretty much 9 dodges in a row and with 20 points in Acrobats you can even take might on dodge and maintain 12-14 Stacks of might on your own, with 30 points in shadow arts for Might on Stealth.
Furthermore you dont need to “waste” utility slots for a few more dodges and can slot caltrops for more damage (your might stacks will boost your condition damage) and also smokescreen to leap through it and block projectiles. If you desire runes or orbs in your armor, just slot Sigil of Agility as it fills 100% of your endurance every 30 sec instead of 50% endurance every 15 sec of the rune.
You can trait pretty much everything you want for a dodge heavy build, but 20 points in acrobat with Vigor on Heal and Withdraw and Might on Dodge is important. You can even put 25 points in Acrobat and take the 10% additional damage when your endurance isnt full, in case you go direct damage.
Despite the lack of boons which a thief can apply alone the 20% boon duration from Acrobat can come in handy too. Your might stacks on dodge and stealth will last 2 sec longer and in case you take a shortbow, the might stacks from blast finisher in a firefield (and all in all every boon applied from combos) will last longer too.
Due to that much points in acrobat you get also 200 vitality which allows you to wear more zerker gear while still having abit higher health.
pretty similar setup i use in wvwvw, i posted in that other thread about soloing supple camps, i dont do dungeons so im not sure how useful weakness is, but if it is, try going 0/0/20/30/20 with 2 shortbows, with quick pockets also and sigil of energy and spam choking gas and cluster bomb also
throw gunk is probably the best one, its a combo field, and using a leap finsisher like heartseeker will give you chaos armor
I got tired of playing d/d backstab so I made a p/d sb build just to solo camps.
I was surprised that this build works pretty well, I’m even taking out upgraded camps in less than a minute.
30 Shadow arts iv, vi, xi
20 Acrobatics ii, iii
20 trickery v, vii
All carrion gear, weapons armor trinkets
Sigil of energy on both weapon sets and w/e u prefer for the second sigil for the p/d set
Superior runes of adventurer
Withdraw, roll for initiative, caltrops, smoke screen, ds
For food I use orrian truffle and meat stew and tuning crystals
With this build its the same thing, but you have alot of endurance to dodge more, and i mean alot, and everytime you do, you get 2 stacks of might, ontop of might from stealthing and stealing.
I’m using all green gears too and I still see bleed ticks from 130-150 depending on how much might stacks I have so I can’t wait to see what numbers imma get with exotics
A couple of people that asked me about this rune and sigil setup was skeptical at first, but was also surprised by how it did, even though the bleed ticks fluctuated with your might stacks, they loved having pretty much borderline infinite endurance .

transmutation stones
I guess you can pick up infusion of shadows and cloaked in shadows and “kite” with your stealth.
Just do this rotation, CnD back stab 1 full auto attack chain repeat
Usually when you break stealth, the target will miss from the blindness and get 1 hit in if they attack fast and you’ll be able to land a CnD again
I think p/d was just as effective before, but now that people are catching on and getting smarter with fighting thieves, a more glassy build is better. not saying p/d doesnt work anymore, its just slower.
after a while, d/d doesnt even feel that vulnerable anymore. What other class can you play standing in the enemy zerg picking off the guy on the ram to prevent them from capping a tower?
One more, go 30 into acrobatics with quick pockets and assassins award, get I think it’s called orrian and truffle soup, but it gives might on dodge and 40 percent endurance regen, 2 shortbows with sigil of energy and get a bunch of thieves spamming disabling shot and infiltraitors arrow. This can break zergs apart and this this the king of causing nerd rage alt 4ing
Eh, that’s alright, but you can have so much more fun as a group of thieves.
I ran with four other thieves one time, we were using scorpion wire, bas venom and devourer venom pulling people in circles to immobilize them
And do u know how easy it is to cause nerd rage having a group of p/d thieves doing nothing but using shadow strike on you lol
Stop placing your banners where my loot bags are gonna drop. I’m always going for my badges and I end up running away with a banner like wtf am I gonna have to pole vault to my targets now
I just found out that if I turn on my graphics settings to a certain point , whenever it goes off I frame lag a bit, and I use signal to not do anything to get revealed
But yea like how op said alot of my deaths are from that
Utilize your death blossom, don’t forget, it’s not just there to apply bleeds, it’s also an evade.
Once you see the smoke field, they’re most likely gonna hs to you, that’s when u death blossom to counter their blind and prevent their stealth, and u should be within range still to CnD and stealth yourself giving u the upper hand.
Deathblossom uses alot of ini too so don’t forget to manage your initiative
LOL, holy kitten, sry bout that, that was my “pro” drunk friend on my comp yesterday. I asked him wtf he was talking bout and he thought that u had to land the hs with bp to stealth lol. I brought him to the mist and showed him how to play each weapon set and I can now say there is officially 1 less thief nub in gw2
Maybe I just haven’t ran into a good d/p ever then, but every d/p I ever run into just shoots bp, hs to me and tries to do a backstab. But if u guys say that’s bad advice, I won’t advise that to anyone then, but that’s what I do as a dd thief myself which works really well.

Lol I like how u said the only viable skills for d/d is 2,5, sometimes 4 and 1 which is 4/5.
I usually don’t mind about these threads but this one gave me a lol…
“Lets not nerf your damage, but since I don’t know how to fight thieves, lets give me a chance IF they miss, meanwhile everyone else that can counter thieves already win” was all I got from your suggestions
i dont know why alot of thieves dont use death blossom aganst other thieves. i feel like that is the strongest tool against them, in a very stealth heavy fight, im pretty sure alot of people noticed that whoever stealths 2nd usually has the upper hand because u get that split second to catch them with another cnd or a backstab. with deathblossom you can evade their cnd and stay in range to land a cnd on them unlike a dodgeroll, so now your the one stealthed while they play the guessing game like how i saw you did half the video -_- but aside from that, i like the castle crashers song, think ill whip out my xbox for bit
I wouldn’t go full apothecary though… vit works as anti-burst/anti condition. Toughness is anti sustained damage…
i disagree, ive gone full apothecary before, everything, armor trinkets, weapons, and paired with undead runes you have enough toughness to take a bs, or hb with enough healing to laugh at it once u stealth or cast your heal. i was worried at first about the low hp, but you have so toughness to make up for it, and with sigil stacks and food, i was still able to do high bleed ticks
I don’t pve much but the times I did I can say warrior is cake and thieves, well it just horrible, not that they are bad but I just couldn’t stand it for some reason
PvP wise, like how someone said about warriors, they can be very predictable sometimes, where as a thief, even a typical backstab build, can have alot of improvising involved so it keeps it more exciting for me playing mind tricks
heres my setup for wvwvw backstab build, its not as glassy but i can still land 6k backstabs
i have all p/v/t armor and backpiece
berserker amulet and trinkets
beryl gems for all 12 pieces
berserker daggers with sigil of force and bloodlust
0/30/30/10/0 is the build i run with
side strikes, practiced tolerance, hidden killer
infusion of shadow, cloaked in shadow, shadows rejuvenation
fleet shadow
for food, curry butternut squash for 100 percision and 10% crit damage and sharpening stone for power
stats with food and sigil stacks is around 3300 power, 40%crit chance 18k hp and u have a little bit of toughness.
i prefer not to take mug because i prefer to cast my bas venom with the backstab so i can stay closer to them a little longer for the next cnd+bs.
Try playing a p/d thief with apothecary gear and undead runes, u just tank everything and heal completely everytime you stealth
And I also play a shortbow build with clerics gear and dwayna runes. I’m just evading and dodging nonstop with a boatload of regen. And since I’m not stealthing they can’t QQ afterwards muahahha
After reading this thread I was messing around, picked up some clerics gear with hammer and double mace, went 0/0/30/20/20 with dwayna runes and all the regen stuff and lol… All I was doing tanking healing and ccing, I even picked up the sigil to steal life next attack on weapon swap.. I felt like a p/d thief as a warrior
How can u guys stand wvw with no condition removal?
im only 20 in shadow arts, but I think shadow embrace is like the best tallent in the entire tree, this is while having sword main hand for more removal..
If u go 30 to pick up rejuvenation, u can usually heal through conditions especially if u have shadow infusion and good with CnDing
Yea after testing it out I went with the 20 % recharge rate instead
I was working on a troll build where I used all the venoms and heart seeker to keep them immobilized then steal to do it all again lol
It was pretty fun lol
Lemme say this before I mention a build, with the pistols damage if its not crit it is lacking even with all the power u can get IMO, so I feel like having high crit is a must, even without crit damage
I’m at work ATM so I’m not gonna open up a calculator, but off the top of my , I usually run a build that’s 30 critical strikes with side strike, pistol mastery, and executioner, 30 in shadow arts cloaked in shadow, shadow infusion, and rejuvenation, the last ten w/e u want but I usually got for mug or the speed increase in stealth.
The gears I’m either all berserker with rubies or if I want to be more tanky I have pvt armor and berserker everything else
And for food like someone mentioned before, omnom berry ghost is great with this build combined with SoM, I use it with full berserker gear, and when I have my pvt gear I use I think curry butternut squash? Forgot the name but it adds the precision and 10% crit damage

what people forget about p/d as a non condition build is that they think all the damage comes from the auto attack, but they forget that if your in full berserker, cnd still hurts. whenever i run full berserker, i can still pull off numbers close to a backstab. i see numbers like 5k each on mug cnd and 4k sneak attack and 1k auto attacks.
non condition p/d is what i call the lazy backstab build also, all you have to do is land the cnd, and you dont have to position yourself to the backside because sneak is ranged and after that you dont have to be in melee range to auto.
Also imo dont go rampager, focus on the damage or dont at all.
Ok just as I thought , but I guess this trait doesn’t want me to use venoms, because I must’ve tried it at least 30 times and it never recharged the venoms
How does this trait work exactly? I was trying to make a venom build today where I would utilize this trait, but testing it out in the mist, it never took any of my skills of cooldown. Does the type of skill it recharges gets picked randomly, even if it not on my bar, or does “recharge” mean something else and not taking it off cooldown?
Im just at work bored going through a build calculator and wondering if using carrion gear with a hammer and double mace be a good condition/control build if it was built around distracting strikes spiked armor?
For your traits in shadow arts, what are your opinions on cloaked in shadow and shadows embrace? I seem to find myself switching between the both of those
MrForz, if it’s not difficult, please post a video and show us?
It really isn’t, pick up infusion of shadows in shadow arts, maybe patience for insurance and u can pretty much live inside the enemy Zerg with just CnD , you can make some new friends while your at it
I think what your experiencing is the bug that’s been happening lately where it just looks like your not stealth but you still are. I think it happens more often when your stealthed and use infiltrators arrow, your character pops back up like stealth is broken, but you can still see the stealth icon on the bottom. It happens to me pretty often also when I use blinding powder
Spacecowboy – I just use 2 shortbows and swap continuously for the endurance, but I’ve tried it with dd for death blossoms evade and the ability to stealth and it works also
And for the venoms, I have incorporated it into the build also, but con with this build is HEAVY condition to the point when you just can’t outheal it, that’s why I use shadow step for condition removal and movement and shadow refuge as my oh crap reset button. So I prefer so use that for my utilities and go for the trickery line for extra boons
Before you buy more gear, I would suggest, not only for a thief but every class in general, you find a weapon set you like and want to stick to first, and then start gearing around that set and build
My dd sb 0/30/30/10/0 build with pvt armor and back, with berserker trinkets and weapon with all ruby orbs get you pretty much all those numbers you ask for, 16k hp, 50 crit chance cluster bombs hit for 3k trickshots 1k and with hidden killer my backstabs hit for 5k
faeyd – i wish i can record on my comp with gw2 running, but my comp cant handle it and the quality comes out like crap
hacker – i actually tested it out to see but in the end, you dont have permanent vigor because your not gonna spam heal for just for vigor, even if the cd is on 15 sec cd, im saving the heal more for a heal and evade, and same thing with steal, im not gonna cast steal every chance i get, gotta wait for a good time to use that also and for mango pies, ive thought of a food buff for health regen per sec, but i noticed i had plenty of regen already, so i thought id go for the might since im dodging nonstop with the extra endurance regen for when my vigor isnt up.
So I’ve been trying alot of different builds to main a shortbow for a while and this one is pretty fun and I thought I’d share it for anyone who wants to have a little bit of fun
It gives ALOT of regen so your health is gonna be up almost all of the time, and a lot of endurance for dodging. And with this build its more about the traits and runes so you can tweak your gear for a level of survivability you want
20 shadow arts – II shadow pulse, vii power shots
30 acrobatics – III vigorous recovery, viii pain response, x assassins reward
20 trickery – v thrill of the crime, vii bountiful theft
Withdraw, roll for initiative, other 2 and elite is optional but I run with shadow refuge shadow step and bas venom
Food – bowl of orrian truffle and meat stew, which gives 100% chance to gain might on dodge and 40 % endurance regen
2 shortbows with sigil of energy and 6 runes of dwayna
For gears like I said before its whatever you want your survivability level to be around. I currently run with p/v/t armor and berserker amulet, trinkets and bows, but I’ve ran with cleric weapons and armor for the healing power and toughness.
With this build you dodge nonstop with all the endurance regen from sigils on weapon swap, everytime you heal for vigor, and food buff. There’s also the evade from disabling shot and infiltrators arrow to shadow step around with the blindness to kitten them off even more. And you can kite also with the bow to compliment all the dodging and evading.
Ontop of all the evading, your gonna have alot of health regen from shadow pulse, pain response, shadows reward , a heal every 15 seconds which also gives you regen from the runes and 5% chance for regen on hit also from runes
If anyone tries it lemme know what you think
