Who’s to say there’s not going to be things like that? I swear some people complain just to complain.
They just added the kitten laurel system 2 days ago. And by doing this they have added a second way to get ascended gear. They have also repeatedly stated they’re working on making them accessible through other means(such as Wvw). God have some kitten patience.
As for getting laurels in another way than achievements. Hell no. Then people would be trading in their karma and gold for ascended.
Absolutely saving it. Karma is easy, a memento like this comes rarely or een only once.
A memento of what? Running around 2 maps doing boring chores? Personally I set my standars a good bit higher. So far this event is nothing but one big disappointment.

So after talking to other people in game, it appears I’m stuck on yesterdays dailies.
After the update earlier 3 of my achievements are not working.
Daily Kill Variety, Daily Healer, and Daily Dodger.
Dodger was working before the update. I finished events beforehand as well. And gathering was updating.
They said that OVER TIME you will be able to gain ascended gear by other methods than just FoTM. They JUST added the laurel system way to get them; they’re likely to add a WvW way to get them soon enough, and probably karma ways as well. kitten just give them time and quit being so impatient.
But he didn’t actually lose anything though. All of his stuff is on the other server. He could probably get it all back by guesting to that server.
if you’re looking for condition based damage mesmer is not even close to that play style. if you are looking to provide a mix of boons and conditions id say the elementalist is better than both. that being said, it think mesmer is more fun than both necro and ele
Obviously you’ve never used the scepter/torch and staff weapon set for mesmer.
Well unfortunately; he should have done some research before switching. Now he only has 8 days until transfers aren’t free.
But I mean….you can still transfer every 7 days. So he could potentially still transfer over, grab his stuff, and switch again before it’s not free.
I’d much rather have legendaries tie into the story and achievements than RNG for the precursor and a ton of money/mats.
It doesn’t remove all those things, those things just stay in the vault on the server you WERE on.
People have been making posts about the fact that influence and such things don’t transfer with you for a while now.

So if they ask for more than $10 for a transfer to a high pop server you’re going to ask for a refund? On what grounds?
God you whiny people are so annoying. You think you’re entitled to everything because you spent $60 on game SIX MONTHS AGO. I’d say you’ve MORE than gotten your moneys worth.
I’ll also point out that even if that list is the final list….there’s a scroll bar on the side. I’m quite sure there’s plenty of things you’ll be able to buy with laurels.
Yes, actually I do play a mesmer, I just don’t use a clone build. My traits are all stacked to buff my phantasms for my normal build.
I’m not a fan of shatter builds.
First of all; clones suck. The only use for them is diversion or exploding.
Second, phantasms have pretty hefty CD’s.
If you’ve noticed there’s a whole lot of un-explorable places in the world right now. I’m pretty sure FoW is one of them. I’m sure they could implement UW, but I’m not sure it’s something they want to do.
I’ve got a 56 guardian and what hithlain said is quite true. It takes up some space in your bag, but it’s definitely beneficial to carry most if not all of the weapons.
Yeah, well get a job working for ArenaNet and try that.
Unfortunately for us though, they can’t just keep adding new weapons every 3 months because that means coding in new skills that they’ll need to tweak, fix bugs with, and constantly rebalance….you know; like they’re doing now with the weapons they DO have.
Replication would also require downtime.
Also they never said they wouldn’t be working on making it possible in the future. I’m sure when they’ve generated enough revenue they’ll work on some solution. But I’m sure people will still find some reason to whine about it.
Sounds like an entitlement argument to me. “I paid the $60 for your game and have been playing for 5 months now, but YOU OWE ME THIS,….it doesn’t matter how much it costs! You aren’t delivering 100% of what you implied was going to be in this game. No it doesn’t matter that you’re still releasing new content all the time, it should have been here from the start!”
Oh right, just buy a whole new game, spend 60 dollars and invest time and effort in rebuilding everything you have. Everyone has the time and money to do that.
So rather than you spending another $60 they should have to spend millions to make it convenient for you?
A one time fee would also cost them revenue.
Think about it. If a server transfer costs say $20. Even if they upped it to a one time fee of $100 to switch indefinitely between data centers on a timer, people would be switching as often as they were allowed.
I’m personally happy that guesting is coming, I’ve wanted to play with my friends from different US servers for quite a while. I just never wanted to take a hit in my guilds perks for switching servers.
They’ve said from the start that transferring servers was going to come at a charge. Why would they give you the ability to switch between data centers for free?
No, you seem to misunderstand. You cannot play with people from EU servers if you’re on an NA server, and vice versa, unless your idea of “playing” is to chat and hang out in the same party. So that restriction already exists, due to the fact you’re on separate datacenters. The datacenters cannot communicate in a way that permits playing together. This isn’t a new restriction, it’s the way it’s always been.
And let’s say they create a server on each datacenter that’s specifically designed to allow people to transfer for guesting. What happens when the free server is full and you can’t transfer? What happens when you’re finished playing with your EU friends and want to transfer back to your home NA server but it’s full too? What then?
That we can’t actually play cross-region is accurate, obviously – that’s the whole point! But where you’re claiming it’s a technical impossibility (although you at first said the servers were completely isolated from each other, when that’s clearly not the case), I’m saying that it’s not, it’s just a more difficult solution that ArenaNet seems unwilling to commit to, despite their proclaimed intentions that playing with our friends is of great importance to them.
What your second part of the post is getting at, or why you’re asking me, I’m not sure. It has very little to do with anything I’ve said, or my suggestion thread. Again, I’m not bothered by specifics. If some solutions brought up in this thread or elsewhere aren’t practical, I don’t care. Something must work. However, you seem insistant that there is no solution that will work, and you seem to actively dislike the very thought of this issue being resolved. Why is that? Why not try to come up with solutions instead?
What you don’t understand is the revenue required for what you’re wanting them to do. In order for the datacenters to communicate on the level it would take to allow players to cross between the two it would require setting up a whole new infrastructure, buying a lot of really expensive equipment, setting up the network to allow it, investing in SAN’s that can run at high speeds, potentially using VPN’s, etc.
I work at a company that does a lot of hosting and we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every time we have to update something.
Also everyone does realize that GW1 was hosted entirely in America; right?
And this is what happens when you start making assumptions based on another game.
All these complaints are basically just asking them to spend a ton of money to please you. This isn’t pay to play, they’re not receiving $15 from 3 billion players every month to pay for all these things.
You do realize that a lot of games don’t even allow you to play on servers from another continent, right?
For those of you complaining about them not doing this exactly how you want it and saying things like “Well make a 3rd international data center”. Do you even know how expensive it is to build/create a new data center? You want them to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a new data center just so you can play with your friend from another continent?
How is it that you’ve bumped your own thread over a dozen times and not gotten infractions for it?
Also they have said multiple times that ascended will be available via other means(such as WvW and crafting). They just haven’t released it yet.
If you hate the game so much now, why are you still here?
There’s plenty of us who still love the game, and a single tier of new equipment isn’t going to change that.

I work a full time job(40 hours a week), I have a girlfriend, and a life. Yet I’ve managed to gear out 2 level 80’s and run a guild all by myself without much help.
I don’t want to hear “Oh I can’t have a life and do this” because that’s just a lame excuse.
They said max stat gear was in game(exotics). They NEVER said that exotics were going to always be top slot gear.
You don’t really think that 3 months after the game came out they looked at each other one weekend and said “Let’s code a new tier of equipment so all the gear progression players can be happy” do you? Do you know how much coding it takes to correctly implement a new tier of equipment? Do you honestly think they haven’t been coding this since the game launched and just holding it back until they were ready to release it?
What I’m thinking is they released it earlier than they expected to because of the complaints; but it was always coming.
Considering 90% of the forum complaining came from about 10% of the actual game population. I’d say they’re doing alright.
This I can agree with as well chasing. They should have given us more advance notice then 3 days before the event saying “Oh yeah, we’re adding better equipment with this update”
I still fail to see how adding a single tier of equipment into a game that’s only 3 months old to add more abilities and mechanics to the game is adding a kitten treadmill.
Now I could see your point if they release another content update, with yet another tier above ascended. But I highly doubt they’re going to do that. Especially with the amount of crying that went on with this recent update.
Also you have to realize that not even half the amount of people you think were “crying for a treadmill” actually did so, right? I know that I didn’t; and neither did any of the dozens of people I personally know.
They’ve been making this update since they released the game; they may not have intended to release the new tier of equipment so soon; but it was going to happen eventually.

I never asked for this change, I was enjoying the game quite as bit as it was. I’m sure that’s the case for many of the people you refer to as “locusts”. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to enjoy the hell out of a new tier of equipment.
You need to learn to not take life so seriously. Or games for that matter. This new tier of equipment isn’t going to break the game. A game which I might add has only been out for THREE months. They never made a promise that exotic(easy as hell to get) gear was going to be the final stage. So you have to actually do some work if you want to have ascended gear. Buck up kiddo. Expecting to never have anything to progress towards at only 3 months in the game was just stupid on your(and many others) part.
Once I have full exotics, all you have listed is cosmetic.

I’ve said it many times this thread. I want my character to be better than it was when I logged in, when I log off.
Then GW2, as advertised (even promised in blogs/videos/interviews), is not the game for you, so why did you buy it?
There are many other MMOs that offer this, and make it clear that they offer it. Quite frankly, you have no right to ask for a gear treadmill in a game where the original mission statement was to -not- have a treadmill.
If you don’t like a game, don’t play it. Don’t try to force developers to change it you suit your needs. People here are angry because people that do want a treadmill (and it is FINE to want one in a game) or trying get it added to a game that was never supposed to have one.
Would you consider it acceptable if I bought WoW today, and started demanding that Blizzard remove the gear treadmill because I don’t like it?
I don’t play WoW because I know it has a treadmill, and I don’t like that. My solution to WoW’s “treamill issue” (issue being my dislike of it)…I don’t play it.
And to bring up something you mentioned earlier in the thread about EVE Online having horizontal progression….I don’t know if that was trolling or you’re trying to make examples with a game you never played, but it’s far from the truth. It takes years to “max” a character in that game, and there are ships and equipment that most players will never obtain that give considerable advantages over the “standard” ships/equipment.

The gear treadmill has been here since the game launched. This thread is a prime example of it. “You need full 80 exotics to get into my party for this harder dungeon”.
All they did was add a new mechanic and a new tier of equipment above the existing top tier. Which by the way they never said was going to be the last one.
To everyone still complaining about something that’s obviously not going to change. Get the kitten over it and enjoy the game. Otherwise none of us want to hear your constant whimpering, whining, crying, or complaining.
So your argument then is that more challenging content = discrimination?
I recall hearing many people argue “You could have just given us more challenging content and not added the ascended gear and this wouldn’t have been a problem”
At level 10 shouldn’t the agony be kicking in pretty heavy though?
I’ve been in plenty of pugs myself that did okay in those dungeons without a gear requirement.
