The gear difference has mattered from the beginning. If you can’t see that; you’re blind.
This thread is a prime example. “If you’re not wearing full exotics, you’re wasting my time”
They did say that it would be available by other means(such as crafting and WvW). They just didn’t say when.
I just did the math on this one. Over a period of 98 hours(4 days) they would have had to have been logged in the whole time, and in a fractal every 30 minutes constantly to have enough tokens just to buy the backslot item. Not to mention the required gift to upgrade it.
I call BS. Nobody and I mean NOBODY has ascended gear yet. There’s no way someone made 1300 tokens in the period of a weekend unless they played in shifts with friends so someone was on the character 24/7 and in a fractal the whole time.
You do see that the gear progression was already in the game before ascended, right? This just proves that. Nobody has ascended yet and this is still happening for the new dungeon.
What’s funny is that everyone was complaining that this would happen based on the Ascended items; yet nobodies wearing ascended yet and it’s happening anyways.
The problem with that would be that everyone could bring mercenaries. The reason it worked in GW1 was because everyone left into their own instanced world.

I can agree we need more emblems….or even better the system that Aion had that allowed you to upload an emblem.
On that note though….6 posts in your own thread? I’m surprised they didn’t hit you with multiple infractions for bumping.
I run around Orr solo all the time collecting nodes, killing mobs, and just enjoying the scenery. I’m a level 80 Mesmer/Elementalist with almost exclusively level 70 exotics on(as I’m still working on getting a dungeon set). Yes the risen are kitten(yes I typed out kitten so you won’t give me an infraction for it ANet) annoying, but to say the area’s not soloable is a L2P issue.
They clearly told everyone when this was taking place. If you couldn’t make it for the event it’s not their fault.
Honestly the Straights of Devastation is the hardest of the Orr zones to traverse simply because everything has a yank, cripple, chill, life leach, knockdown, or knockback.
But even still as both of my cloth classes(Elementalist and Mesmer) I’ve had no issue exploring any part of the map. The only thing I’ve needed help with was a skill point(or two) and a vista in malchors leap.
It’s not impossible, it’s just irritating.
The major issue with your suggestion that you’re going to find that they most likely will not budge on is simply this: They’ve been developing Ascended gear for a while, they’re not removing it.
Nick, as I previously stated they said they were working on getting everyone their rewards. Have some patience man.
Also if a “one time event” lasted all day, then it wouldn’t really be considered “one time” if it’s being repeated throughout the day.

You got an exotic 20 slot bag, you got an earring with almost every stat on it, and a few random exotics. Can’t you people just be happy with what you DID get?
Also I missed some of the halloween events(including the exploding of the lion statue), should I cry about that? No; they time the one time events for when the most people are statistically online. They can’t please everyone.
Because I’m actually staying with the game I enjoy and I’m here for discussion. All of you are just whining “I’m leaving” repeatedly and not doing it.
I still love how you people keep referring to everyone who doesn’t hate the new tier of equipment a WoW fan.
I personally have had friends who no lifed WoW, I’ve seen it played. I’ve screwed around on their account before….and I hate the game.
But I’m not against a new tier.
Honestly I don’t recall seeing that many people whine about wanting vertical progression; which leads me to believe they had intended to do this from the start.

I’m concerned over ascended gear. Is Guild Wars 2 supposed to be moving towards traditional MMO progression? One of the reasons I stepped away from WoW and others was so that I could enjoy an MMO at my own pace without the risk of being excluded by something like Gear Score.

Look, this is not a subscription based game, I’m not a subscriber. I’m a customer. It’s my decision to spend money in the gem store and support the developer. If something like this would happen in a subscription based MMO, subscriptions would tank and the game would go F2P or die.
So, if I chose to spend my money and support someone I expect to be treated like a customer or I won’t be a customer anymore. If I go to the store and the clerk sells me, let’s say a laptop, and he knows a new model will come out a week from now and doesn’t tell me I will never ever buy anything in that store again because I would feel I was taken advantage of.
Business treat customers with respect because they know they can take their money elsewhere.
I’m not sure if you understand that the existence of this game is directly liked to the gem store generating enough revenue to sustain it. Do you see where this is going now?
People got burned with this debacle. It’s not bad just for ArenaNet, it’s bad for the entire F2P genre.
The cash shop is not the only revenue sustaining this game. They raked in more than enough from sold out sales of the game alone to keep it going for quite some time.
What you choose to spend on the cash shop is up to you. What you buy from the cash shop is also up to you. There is NOTHING game changing about anything on the cash shop. And I’ve gotten plenty of those level 80 fusion stones simply by opening boxes with the keys I got from doing quests.
I’m not arguing that this change should have been announced though. All I said was to consider this a micro-expansion because that’s basically what it is.

I’ll state it like this. In my personal opinion adding a single tier of equipment on top of the system that is currently in place to accommodate players and work in the functions of the new dungeons is not a breach in contract; as they never said exotic was the be all end all.
Now if after Ascended they add another tier after explicitly saying this will not be a gear treadmill; then I will feel as if I have been lied to and probably leave the game.
So to re-iterate. 1 new tier on top of exotic with fixed stats that may or may not be better in all situation than exotic. I’m okay with. Going any farther than that. Not okay.

People were knowingly let to believe exotic is the final tier. They have stated several times that some people have time and some people have money so they have an option for those people to get their gear from the trading post and they want to provide a safe and secure way of buying gold.
So, let me give you a real life example, if I know a stock is going to tank and I encourage people to buy it I am making a criminal offense. It’s called inside trading.
For the record, I haven’t bought gold to buy gear, I haven’t made a single gem->gold transaction but I know people who did and let me tell you, they are not happy about it.
How would you feel if you finally managed to get the last piece of gear you wanted, spent 100€+ on the cash shop only to find out the next day your purchase was made obsolete because “Oops, we made a mistake, sorry guys, tough luck but thank you for your money and please, come again.”

What you guys fail to understand with the “We want GW1” argument is that this game is so clearly not GW1.
There’s no GvG
There’s no Guild bases(yet)
There’s no guild capes
There’s no ability to obtain new skills outside of what they give you from the start.
There’s no dual classing
There is dodging
There is a combo system
There is jumping
There are dynamic events
There is multi-guilding.
This is not a carbon copy of guild wars 1.

Who’s to say that ascended gear is going to be better for everything anyways? With fixed stats and no customization it doesn’t sound neccisarily better than be able to put whatever superior rune in something you want to. Also there are no set bonuses for ascended gear.
These items aren’t even available yet, and they haven’t explicitly explained exactly how to acquire them other than through the dungeon. All they’ve said is the dungeon is not the only way to acquire ascension items.
Then I guess a bunch of you are leaving for good; because they are putting ascension and infusion gear into the game.
Such a shame that you can’t get over them adding a single tier to the top after only 3 months of the game being released. But I guess everyone wants their ‘hard work’ of doing whatever they wanted to to make money for gear to not have been in vain.

They designed endgame just fine. The problem they’re seeing only exists in the perceptions of a vocal minority who spammed the forums with their “I Quit” threads because there was no gear stat progression. So instead of ArenaNet saying, “Sorry our game isn’t for you,” they’re caving in and making this game more like every other MMO.
So to combat that people are saying “I quit” because they introduced one new tier of equipment? Seems logical.

ANet clearly stated that this game will not have vertical gear progression at max level. Every gaming blog on the planet got it, players from Guild Wars 1 got it, people that bought this game for this specific reason got it even review sites got it and recommended it to players with limited time to play games.

Exotic is soooo easy to get. You have money; therefore you have exotics.
You get 5 relics per run.
Technically, one run is at the minimum 3 fractals so 3×5=15 relics. At which point you are back in a safe room. Then you can do 3 more fractals at the higher difficulty, then you get a boss.
What is a run in a endless dungeon really?
It is something I do not want to do.
It is something ANet told me they wouldn’t force me to do in order to be “just as powerful” as somebody else.
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game.
