This would be a good idea in general for bloodstone, dragonite, and empyreals as well. Some people flat out don’t do world bosses, or wvw, or get rediculously bored of the queensdale champ train. Other materials would be good of evening out prices as well.
The whole point of having 3 different materials (bloodstone, dragonite, and empyreals) is to force you to play all different parts of the game.
I don’t get why anet still tries to get attention to crafting through ascended, because it is probably one of the most useless parts of the game. Here’s what is wrong with the crafting system:
- It’s cheaper to just buy any items from the trading post than craft those items yourself.
- You don’t earn any benefit from crafting things yourself: you don’t make profit, you don’t get ‘special’ items from chance discoveries etc.
- Materials cost so much that it makes crafting nothing but a huge loss of money. What should be done about crafting:
- Make it useful: have a chance at crafting a precursor or other special item or getting materials back. Allow us to make extraordinary items that have a use and that are exclusive, yet not necessary (contra ascended crafting, because it costs way too much money).
- Make crafting profitable. I don’t know how it is, but a crafter actually looses money. In any other game I have ever played, the items you made through crafting were more valuable than the raw materials. The only way to achieve this at this point seems to be to nerf material prices and make craftable items equal price as drops.A problem I think here is that crafting involves making items from 1-80 and most players just buy cheaper versions on the trading post that were dropped from a random mob. Not to mention that nobody actually buys a lot of armour from 1-80 (or buys karma gear from a merchant), basically because the gear is worthless anyways: after 5 levels it becomes redundant. This is basically a problem with the leveling system. Crafting should have been a matter of skills/usage not of stats and levels.
Raw materials hold the value of being able to level you up; crafted materials don’t. That’s why they’re worth more.
As for the act of crafting: horribly boring and tedious, with an awful UI. IMO the worst part of the game.
Cue the person who opened 5 gifts and got an infinite choir bell and two sigils of generosity claiming the RNG is ok.
I don’t think ANet did over-do in nerfing variation.
The player did over-do in concentration on the top-server.
There is just no one that want to play against top 3, be it NA or EU.
I think it’s fine for the top three to be matched up for the rest of eternity — those who stacked to T1 deserve it, but considering how all other matchups turned out this week I’d say it’s likely they over-nerfed.
crafting is ok in this game and can be even called fun – only the ui suck hard and everything is jsut a list you always have to scroll through to find something
would love when they give crafting ui the archievement ui and refine it a bit with hotbuttons at top for categories
I’d like to see one-click-crafting. You click on the item and it crafts all intermediates, as well as the item, automatically. Doing all those intermediate steps yourself can’t really be called gameplay anyway.
They rushed the new skills out so that they could say they fulfilled their promise of new skills in 2013. To make sure they didn’t rush out something too unbalanced, they gave all the skills long recharges.
That’s my theory, at least.
Brainstorm statement.
I am assuming that you wouldn’t want a progression system in which new skills and traits superseded/replaced existing skills and traits.
What’s wrong with this? IMO this is the way to go: regular introduction of new skills and expiration of old ones — exactly like Type II/Standard play in Magic: the Gathering.
- The game stays fresh — even old content, as they can be revisited with new skills.
- Balance is possible as the number of skills remains fixed.
- Only egregiously OP skills need to be nerfed as they’ll be rotated out anyway.
- Interesting mechanics can be experimented with — if they’re no good, they rotate out anyway. If they’re good, bring them back in the future.
- Skill releases can be themed to tie with the current LS.
- Dev team creates more skills more regularly, making them better at balance over time.
Of course this means people will be changing builds regularly, which means gear grind needs to completely go away.
I’d really like to know why you prefer not to go in this direction.
Scarlet invasions already give a huge in-your-face notice when they begin. Everyone knows they’re happening.
The real problem is that they aren’t fun and don’t give good rewards (anymore) to make up for being unfun.
Because everyone is grinding their crafting to 500 right now, exotics currently sell for very cheap on the TP. Buy now before prices go back up.
As for making quick gold: a couple of hours of champ farming will give you enough to get a full set of exotic gear (at their current price).
Just started playing. Crafting in wow wasnt fun. It was a chore. A time sink. It required a ton of gold. And since your character levels faster than your crafting the stuff you crafted was useless and people only did it for max level buffs. What is crafting like in GW2? Can a new player with no gold keep his crafting level appropriate with character level? Im thinking chef and jeweler for buffs and accessories. If i start to level those two can i swap them for other professions and maintain the crafting level?
Sounds like WoW crafting is pretty much the same as GW2 crafting (never played WoW). Unless you buy mats on the TP, you’ll always out level your crafting level.
You can swap crafting levels and keep your old levels.. but it will cost a fee to switch back. The amount you have to pay depends on the level you’re switching to.
Personally, IMO, crafting is the worst part of the game. The process of crafting is tedious and repetitive but at this point necessary because it’s the only way to get max stats weapons and armor.
yeah anet u did go wayy too far. now it feels like t3 with tc/fa matchups for the next 20 weeks all over again. the variety was way more fun. the only thing that was terrible was the leagues as servers like nsp had to fight fa orsbi which we all told u would happen and be a terrible blowout matchup.
now u over react and put us back to the good old boring same matchups for week after week after week.
i think i will just play eotm if this new matchup system stays like this!
Anet always over-nerfs.
As for EoTM, you’ll be seeing the same matchups there as in your regular WvW matchup, so how does that help?
I think by “things coming soon,” the dev meant Ascended Armor.
The Canthan district used to be there. As you may already know, Divinity’s Reach is divided into several districts, some of them assigned to refugees from the other continents.
The Canthan District however was removed at the last minute before release because Arenanet got complaints about it from asian countries. So they removed it and created the large hole.
That’s not what happened at all.
NCSoft didn’t want the game to copy real-world asian culture because they were afraid it would then be labeled an ‘asian’ MMO. They’ve never said exactly why but I would bet it’s because being labeled as such has a negative connotation because of the massive amount of grindy pay-to-win ‘asian’ mmos that have been flooding the market for years.
Ironic as NCSoft owns and operates a few of the worst of those MMOs.
Let’s just ignore all of guild wars: factions which was based off of asian cultures.
NCSoft wasn’t majority shareholder during the release of the original Guild Wars or that of any of its expansions.
NCSoft has owned Anet since 2002.
The more things that can be bought for gold, the more chance Anet has of people buying gems to exchange for gold.
Yes even level 1-10 now give fractal relics.
Awesome! Might be worth a try (haven’t done them in AGES).
Some people do sell fractal run, my group sell lvl 49 run 2 spots everyday but they fill up very fast. They sell for 10-15 gold usually, not really worth it if you ask me XD.
I doubt people sell lower level as it wouldn’t fill up (or almost) and the outcome wouldn’t really be worth it.
Perhaps you can market lower level fractals to WvW players at a lower price (assuming lower level fractals take significantly less time to complete)?
Get an SSD… it’s by far the best QoL upgrade you can make (for the money spent) on your computer.
By the way, I believe load screens have 2 phases.. one is loading the map from your hard drive and the other is loading other players from Anet’s servers — that’s why loading from LA takes often takes longer. The SSD will only help the hard drive phase, of course. My load screens are rarely longer than 5 seconds.
I just noticed on the gw2wiki that you can get pristine fractal relics for doing level 1 fractals. Is this so (I believe you had do level 10 before for pristines) … did this change come with the Fractured update?
Also, do people sell fractal runs? (I’d rather spend my time in WvW and Fractals take more time than I’d like to spend — hence level 1.. or buying them)
What is a hunter . . .
I’d guess he’s not playing GW2 in English.
Some of you seem to not really understand the reason why I made this thread.
Some WvW matches are simply unfair. My server and FA tried to take the Green Keep for more than 4 hours and we broke many walls down, we killed many players but we simply couldn’t cap it, neither reach the vista. Yes we had the keep open for longer than a hour (both walls) but we simply cant beat the size of TC’s zerg.
Unfair matches are not a problem when they are temporary. However, with the recent changes and the WvW Matchup Variance Reduction it gets silly. I simply can’t hope that next week will be better. Especially since the same unfair match up we had last week remained this week… That is not encouraging. I honestly don’t feel like quitting doing the things I actually like to do in this game to spend all my online time in WvW for one single Vista.
I did not leave my WvW completion for the last minute. I have been doing it since a very long time, even earlier than I started the other parts of the map. Getting that keep is taking longer than it took me to do 301 hearts, 511 waypoints, 725 points of interest and 265 vistas.
I am interested in a developer’s response because if they really want to reduce the match variation they should also take out WvW from the map completion or at least require less from it.
If you had both walls open, maybe you should have stealthed and just rushed for the POI/JPs.
That is only one more proof, that if the timegating was supposed to slow down hardcores compared to casuals, it failed badly and is, in fact, having exactly opposite effect.
The purpose of the timegate is to get people to log in regularly day after day until it becomes a habit — this is in lieu of inducing people to log in regularly because the game is so fun.
Obviously the OP doesn’t play a necro…
This is the second time I’ve responded to someone who assumes this. My main is a necro.
Then, will all due respect, you have no idea of how to play necro. Nothing to discuss here.
The gw2 forum at its finest. The OP likes the new Necro signet, other people don’t.
To each their own. Leave him alone. It doesn’t have anything to do with likes and dislikes. It is objectively worse in every possible situation in the game compared to our other heals. End of discussion. You can see the numbers, the situations and all possible (viable) builds in the necro forums for proof.
Evidently it’s not, because he seems to make good use of it. Maybe that makes him less efficient than all the pros out there, but at least he is having fun.
He thinks he’s making good use of it. Likely he’s hurting his own performance but doesn’ realize it. In any case that’s ok since, play how you want.
However, he did say that the skill was borderline OP — that’s what really makes him look like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
everything you said doesn’t explain why everyone is kicked when the instance opener exits the instance. Let’s talk about dungeons or fractals.
Well, if you didn’t get kicked out, people would ask others to spend a minute to open the Dungeon or Fractal Level for them and then just leave the group so that the others could find a replacement, while not worrying about having the requirements of doing the Explorable Dungeon-path or the Fractal Level in the first place.
You get kicked to preserve the integrity of the design philosophy that your group actually have to earn the rights to play at a certain Fractal Level or in an Explorable mode.
This. Plus, it’s the only protection from guild groups kicking you at the end of dungeons in order to bring in guildies (or sell).
If the price is high enough, you can consider the mystic toilet as an alternate way to get dusk.
Another reason the timegate is there is to force people to log on every day — so that GW2 becomes an unbreakable habit.
This is why the Ascended grind is so bad. Who’s going to try new builds when something like this is likely to happen?
Yep. I love to fiddle with builds, and I have multiple exotic sets for each of my characters. I do not foresee that happening with ascended.
That’s why you fiddle with the exotic version, then if you like it, you go for the ascended version.
And when your build gets nerfed? Or new builds become viable from new skills? It’s sure gonna be fun grinding for a new set of Ascended gear again!
Don’t care, and won’t return to the LS until after March 4.
I personally think WvW should be out of world completion. At the same time legendaries should also be out of WvW. Keep the shinies PVE only.
WvW is possibly the place where people notice your Legendary weapon the most (as long as you’re not always in a zerg) — your foes want to know what skills you’ll be using on them.
This is why the Ascended grind is so bad. Who’s going to try new builds when something like this is likely to happen?
I’m curious to know why you think SoV is so good? Have you looked carefully at the numbers? Did you know there are cooldowns?
I don’t think Race change will ever be possible as it ties into so much in the game. Skills, appearance and story. It would be a nightmare to code and would likely cost more than any Total Makeover Kit ever will if they do decide on it.
I don’t think it’s as hard as you think. Everything you mentioned: Skills, appearance, story should be determined by entries in a database — it should not be hard to change — it could be as easy as a few search and replace scripts.
The most difficult issue would be what to do with the story, but I say: wipe your story progress to 0. That’s the price you have to pay to change races.
As for cost: certainly it should cost at least as much as a total makeover kit since it has more functionality. I see no problems with that.
- GW1 faces and hairstyles (humans, of course)
- race change
You have to craft recipes that are colors other than white to gain experience. Orange (exotic color) gives the most experience of known recipes. Alternatively, use the discovery panel to discover new recipes — that gives a lot of XP if the recipe is near your current level.
With Ascended gear out, zerker exotics are REALLY cheap. Champ farm for a couple hours and you’ll have enough gold to buy a full set.
How hard is it to match teams with groups with times with similar sized groups?
I’ve noticed this. It’s been happening for me for about 3 weeks.
2. Anyone else somewhat disappointed that they calculated the matchup probabilities by running 10,000 simulations instead of actually doing the math?
for problems like this, that’s exactly how you do the math. it’s called the “Monte Carlo method” (you can look it up in wikipedia if you like). although if it were me, I would have run a lot more simulations. I routinely run 100,000,000 for my weekly matchup probability estimates; 10,000 is a pitifully small number.
-ken
Yes. Monte Carlo is legit. But using Monte Carlo here indicates to me that they don’t really understand the math, that they’re just randomly tweaking numbers for a few examples until the example cases “look ok” — and that’s generally a bad thing. (I don’t think the math is so bad that you require Monte Carlo in this case.)
IMO the best way to go horizontal is to use Magic: the Gathering’s model of releasing new skill sets on a regular schedule while retiring older skills (Type II/Standard gameplay). This way, the game stays fresh while balancing is feasible.
Anets’ creating room for new builds (via trait/skill balances and new skills) is in direct opposition to the grind of Ascended gear:
Once someone has Ascended gear, he/she is “locked in” to their build. No one wants to grind a second set. Exotics are out because they feel like a downgrade once you have Ascended. If a player is locked in to their build, what’s the point of releasing new skills? (And imagine the rage when someone’s build is nerfed!)
Look at the tone of the OP. Then consider that he thinks the new necro healing is OP.
Obvious troll is obvious. Please don’t feed it.
Anet’s leaving a lot of money on the table by not selling this in the gemstore.
It doesn’t matter. Jeez. They’ve had timers like this for many of the previous living story chapters. It’s just a way for the developers to give people an idea of how long the chapter is going to remain active. That’s all.
When I saw the antitoxin bar, I knew automatically that it had nothing to do with player content, nor did I expect it to. The Living Story chapters run on a strict schedule (usually 2 weeks or 1 month). Think about it. They’re not going to extend the event if the players don’t manage to inject enough toxin into the tower on time, nor would they advance the living story prematurely if the players filled the bar early.
It’s fine for it to be a timer, but it’s not ok for it to be a timer when they say it’s player input.
One thing that was on my mind considerably since I played the new storyline with the Reactor was involving Scarlet…
Now, I tend to try not to be a conspiracy lurker like some are around with ANet and their choices but…
How would we have gotten information about the magical channels around the globe (as hinted to being our next LS segment) if the Reactor wasn’t ever chosen?
How would have ANet delivered Scarlet’s next plotpoint if it was Evon that won instead of Kiel? Since the other fractal likely would have zero ground for being tied in at all with such discoveries.
I’d be rather curious to know, and I doubt its all that ‘super secret’ since it never came to pass, I’d actually love to hear ‘what could have been’ from ANet themselves in that regard.
Otherwise, I’m going to be scratching my head for a while on this one…
Easy explanation. They didn’t have the storyline planned out beforehand, so whatever fractal got chosen would have been fine. (Though I firmly believe that Evon had zero chance of winning given how he was portrayed.)
to an extent, i care about the story, but since trahearne totally dominates it after level 40, it becomes trahearsonal. QED, race change items won’t change the game that much.
can we have it now? i want all my characters to be angry giant cats. charrs<3
Not sure why so many people think the LS is a roadblock to race changes.
Race change => your personal story gets reset — simple as that.
Also needs to be mentioned once again, 1st moves up a tier, 2nd stays in their tier, 3rd moves down a tier, new matchups every week against servers close to your rankings.
Why can’t we do this already.
Because it guarantees you’ll have a bad matchup every other week. If you have the “correct” matchup this week, then next week you’ll get a matchup with 5 ranks between top an bottom servers. That’s a very big difference considering the population disparities between servers that are even adjacent in ranking.
I thought WvW actually having fun content unlike pve was a reward enough.
This used to be true. But now we need rewards for the Ascended gear grind in order to keep up with the Joneses.
Change the definition quietly or prefaced w/ working as intended is the way to go. Fixing it to the common expectation, by default, is admitting sloppy mistakes which is a guaranteed failed grade in my inspiring future politician class of -101.
Ignoring the problem until it goes away — that deservers an A, no?
I haven’t been participating in this CDI stuff partly because I really don’t see much coming from it.
Please, take part in the CDI threads.
Even if you don’t think it will make any difference in GW2, there’s a chance that the devs of the other games coming out soon are watching GW2 and trying to learn from the mistakes being made here. A good argument for or against something may stick with them and improve other games down the line.
It’s far cheaper to learn from those that came before than it is to make the same mistakes yourself, after all. And who knows? If GW2 doesn’t adapt on its own, then pressure from those other games may force them to rethink and improve.
Wow. Great point. Because I’ve pretty much given up on Anet ever listening to us.
The numbers seem a bit weird. NSP is much closer in ranking to HoD than SF (NSP is #14, HoD is #16, and SF is #20) yet the probabilities are:
NSP vs HoD ….3%
NSP vs SF …11%.
This is going to get really boring really fast…meeting the same servers week after week, month after month…
There were loads of threads complaining about this before…obviously Anet don’t learn from past mistakes…
Hopefully, season 2 of the league will save us at some point…
Blame those who stacked to the higher servers. If we had roughly even populations throughout the servers, we’d have far more viable matchups.
